The difference being, we use these ressources to help other, at least most of the time, while the Aspis use theirs to help themselves, or only if they see a bigger profit coming their way; no offense but that how merchant work, you're always looking for a way to gain more money. If you would get sick, or frail, do you think the Aspis would help you, or would already look out for someone else to take your place, someone they could manipulate more easily? I feel you have your own doubts and concerns about that, or else you wouldn't have asked. Are the Pathfinder purely humanitarians? Nope. But I honestly don't think you would find one altruistic person among the Aspis. And yes, part of me hope I'm wrong

Maria gives a soft shrug, "We can't control everything, honestly. But we will do our best to protect you and your family. The resources we have at our disposal will be used to take out the Aspis threat here, hopefully driving them so far underground they just give up. If we make the proper moves, with documentation, we can completely erode any local support. And at the same time hit their bases and forces with a coordinated strike, they should be running for the hills before anyone is wiser."

It's all good, GF!
"Good points," Erwyn nods after listening to each of you speak your peace on the matter. "I admit, for all their faults, I had considered the Aspis a known quantity over the Pathfinder Society. Forgive me for being blunt, but your group does have a bit of a reputation for upsetting the status quo wherever you go - for better and for worse. But clearly the Saltroots are only a convenient business partner to the Aspis and nothing more, otherwise they would not be keeping track of our investments so closely."
Here, Malika Fenn finally clears her throat. "No kidding you're only a partnership of convenience - I've seen enough while working undercover with them to figure out that much. They'll turn on you the moment they think you've outlived your usefulness or once someone offers them a better deal than you can. We're not always the most graceful in our dealings but we take care of each other and do everything we can to honor our agreements. Guaril's a piece of work but he made sure these guys here got me out safely - other groups would've just left someone like me to rot."
Erwyn gives Malika an appraising look and then does the same with each of you, clearly considering each and every word. Finally, he nods. "I'm convinced. You're clearly the better choice, after all. I'll pull my family out of Aspis employment and get in touch with Guaril and his associates to set up a new arrangement." Rising to his feet, he adds, "In fact...the Aspis are clearly a danger to our delicate little ecosystem of trade and life here. Their ships will be blockaded until further notice."

Having investigated the Vanji Prospectors' Guild for evidence against the Aspis Consortium and secured Erwyn's cooperation as well, there's only one lead left to pursue - Ungala, a guerilla warrior that the Pathfinder Society has met before.
As you prepare to leave Erwyn and Guaril to it to negotiate terms of the new arrangement, Erywn takes a moment to offer the group an Oil of Align Weapon (Good) and an Ochre Bag of Tricks as a show of good faith. "Besides, I get the feeling you will get far more use out of these items than we will."
Erywn also takes a moment to hammer out the finer details of how to signal his blockade to begin, leaving it to you to decide what specific signal to give.

Realizing that you've got some work ahead of you you fan out (but only a little) and begin casually making inquiries as to Ungala's whereabouts. Dr. O'mayga and Zithembe both struggle to get anyone to give them the time of day while The Grandfrogger decides to try his luck with a flock of screaming seagulls. While the grippli certainly gets their attention with the bread, he's unable to get much more out of them than, <"Food? Food? Mine! Mine! Is Ungala food? Mine!">
Luckily, Maria fares far better and through a combination of her knowledge of the town and casual demeanor she manages to locate one of Ungala's operatives. After some hushed conversation and a good once-over, he agrees to take you to her hideout which turns out to be located in the city slums and underneath what looks like an ordinary hovel. Though initially startled and a bit put out to have so many strangers crowding into her hideout, Ungala relaxes when the operative explains who you are.
"Ah, my friends, it is good to see you. But I know the Pathfinders well and rarely do you just drop in for the pleasure of it. To go to the trouble of seeking me out, you must be here on a matter of some urgency, right?"
After taking a few minutes to explain your business and make your request, Ungala gives her head a rueful shake. "You've caught me at a bad time. Normally I'd have no problem helping you but I've got problems of my own. Three weeks ago, a mysterious entity began murdering my soldiers around the city, crippling my operation and forcing my remaining people to lay low. The killer has resisted all attempts to magically discern their nature and only one victim, a man named Embele, survived one of the attacks. As you can see," she points to a body off in the corner being prepared for burial, "this is not something I am taking lightly. I don't know exactly where the attacker is hiding but I do have a hunch - a ruined guard post just outside of town. We used it as a staging location for raids and two of my men have been killed on the path leading to it already."
"If you can take care of this thorn in my side, I'll be happy to give you what help I can. Do we have a deal?"

Doc and Hogo dutifully follow Maria and the others, but studiously avoid the Grandfrogger's seagull friends for fear they might pluck the suture vine off Doc's head to use Hogo to build a nest with! Safely in the underground secret lair, Doc shoulders his way over to the corpse and initially offers to assist in the burial ritual before another thought strikes him.
"Hogo, would the ... Lady of Graves ... object to us ... conversing with ... this man?"
Hogo initially shakes their tiny thorns in the negative, but scritches out a more complete reply.
"Hmm... yes. But perhaps a ... problem easily .... resolved."
He switches focus to their host and without thinking begins conversing with her in the local tongue.
I wanted to make sure that Pharasma would be okay with that, and per Inner Sea Gods it's a granted spell in her Exalted boon, so I presume so. Doc would want to go buy the scroll of speak with dead, then take 3 hours to feed it to Hogo thus adding it to his familiar's spells known, then cast it. If we don't have that much time, or the party objects to the plan, I'll pass.

To Dr. O'mayga, she adds, <"Ah, yes. That shouldn't be a problem. And to be honest, now that you mention it, I'm a little embarrassed that we haven't thought to try that ourselves.">

"We propose ... to remain here ... to speak with ... this one, while ... the rest of you ... seek out Embele," he informs everyone as he stands from beside the corpse.
He continues with a dismissive wave of his hand. "As long as ... Embele and the other ... soldiers stay away from the ... spooky castle ruined guard post, ... we can do both ... at the same time, I think." Hogo meanwhile nods enthusiastically.
<"Do you have ... someone who can ... escort me to get ... the scroll?"> he asks Ungala as he moves to leave the cramped confines of her hideout.
It'll be fine, I'm sure. I doubt this is the combat scene, just a Gathering or Tracking scene, and the rest of you can likely handle that quite fine without him. Honestly, in-character, Doc is so oblivious and Hogo so greedy for magic that they'd likely just go walking out the door to get the scroll without really consulting the team.

With the party agreeing that proper preparation is worth the risk of delay, the bulk of the party opts to work with Ungala to track down the one living witness while Dr. O'mayga and Hogo decide to work on interrogating the dead.
As expected, it takes some time. Embele isn't an easy man to find and it takes a couple of hours to finally find him, even with Ungala's help. And of course Dr. O'mayga already knows that you can't rush arcane rituals if you want them to work properly. But in the end, each group achieves their goals and ultimately learn the same thing: firsthand accounts of the mysterious attacker describes them as a pair of spiked monstrosities, their bodies interwoven in a seemingly impossible knot. Despite its twisted appearance, the attacker moved gracefully, swinging its curved knives so quickly it seemed a blur. Fighting back was futile, for even wounds that pierced its thick hide quickly healed. Embele only managed to get away when one of his allies distracted the creature and he was able to make a run for it.
This description matches that of an adhukait asura perfectly.
This check also qualifies as identifying the creature as though you'd actually seen it yourselves, so if you've rolled well, go ahead and ask questions you might have related to abilities and such.

With Hogo's appetite for magic sated, and Doc's appetite for knowledge from the beyond at least tempered for the time, the two listen to Maria's recount of what they're about to face.
<"Her knowledge is always quite impressive, isn't it, my friend?"> he asks Hogo in their personal language.
"<No, I'm not looking to 'settle down!' How could you think that?"> he shoots back to his familiar's teasing reply.
The rest of the team could be forgiven for being confused as Doc rolls his eyes and huffs at the little vine who then slithers down to the floor.
Vibrating slightly in mirth, Hogo quickly crosses the room and clambers up onto their second-favorite humanoid's slim elven shoulder where they promptly curl up to take a nap.
He had to burn an arcane point to replace his prepared 3rd level spell with speak with dead. Since that's not likely to be very useful any longer, he'll burn another point to swap something else in before combat. But I'll wait to decide what until we hear what Maria has for us.

Maria gets the first three: special defenses, resistances, weakenesses.
Once everyone is able to reconvene and compare notes Maria is able to share what she knows about adhukait asuras. Known also as the twinned ones, adhukaits are warrior asuras, specialized at quick raids designed for theft, assassination, or kidnapping. An adhukait is adept at infiltration and escape. In killing, the fiend is brutally efficient unless it wishes to prolong pain to demoralize or enrage its enemies. Although an adhukait appears to be two connected creatures, it is one entity with two minds. The creature’s personality and purpose is as unified as its bizarre form.
Maria knows first and foremost that these creatures are capable of regenerating and mending their wounds, making them challenging to kill unless one has access to weapons or spells imbued with goodness. In addition to their regeneration, they possess an innate resistance to magic as well as to acid and electricity and have no known weaknesses.

You make your preparations and head off to put an end to the asura, following Ungala's directions to the location where she suspect it lurks. The path you follow leads north to a ruined guard post Ungala used to stage raids, surrounded by a mossy bog studded with wetland trees. The trees rise 30 to 40 feet above the ground, their branches interwoven with vines to form a dense canopy. A circle of blasphemous tokens and human remains suggests that the asura has been returning here between attacks.
The green marshland here functions as a Shallow Bog.

Images: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The Grandfrogger grants the blessings of the storm and wind upon his allies and readies himself to perhaps grant the gift of flight, if need be. Meanwhile, the asura seems to focus for the tiniest of moments before simply stepping off of the branch it stands on! Yet instead of falling, the asura gently drifts down to the ground below, pair of kukris in hand. Now that everyone can see it better, they can also see that there are multiple copies of the asura that mirror its every move. Oh and their outlines appear rather blurry, too.

Arcana DC 20 + SL: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
Doc watches the asura alight on the ground, blurry and with multiple images of itself. He's pretty sure that it's the standard wizard spell mirror image, and decides to simply undo the effect. He ambles forward to get a good view of the creature before casting, just to be safe. (Well, "safe" meaning he hopes Malachi and Zithembe move forward so he's behind them.)
dispel magic CL check w Potent Magic vs DC 11+Asuar's CL: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 6 + 2 = 27
Let's hope its CL isn't > 16!
And just to be safe, he takes a look at the blur effect to see if he's familiar with that, too.
Arcana vs DC 20 + SL: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24
@Team: he could probably also dispel magic on the blur next round, too. But that would use up all his 3rd rank level spells. Let me know your thoughts if you care.

No need Doc - you took care of one half of the problem, Grandfrogger's got the other.
The Grandfrogger looks down at Cherry-Blossom-Tender, and the two nod in sync. Together they begin speaking in a tongue unfamiliar to even the learned Doc. Light gathers around them, swells outward as the pair raise their hands to the heavens, washes over the grass and mud until it reaches the asura, clings tightly to the wicked invader like a second skin of brilliant blue-and-green flame.
Using Spirit Magic to cast faerie fire on the asura.

Doc has no problem discerning that the asura is indeed under the effects of both Mirror Image and Blur. Taking a calculated risk, he moves closer and uses his magic to neatly dispel the asura's multiple images. The Grandfrogger attempts to handle the remaining spell in his own fashion...
Grandfrogger vs. SR: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
...and just manages to get his spell to stick! The asura is coated in a thin layer of blue and green light, cancelling out his blurry defense.

"Eh, I thought it wanted to fight, yes." Malachi sounds disappointed. "Good work cancelling its tricks, shipmates!"
Taking advantage of the asura's delay, the captain activates his own magical defences - expending the spell stored within the ioun stone orbiting his head. Then he closes the distance, hammer-point levelled at the fiend.
"Show a little spirit, eh? The kraken awaits, yes!"
Cast Shield from ioun stone, move.
Just in case the asura gets lucky with one of those kukri, Malachi has 25% crit/sneak immunity via his armour's lesser fortification property.

Know PLanes: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 6 + 1 = 25
Special attack maybe if I pass the DC? Delays. Or not.
Hepsubia studies the beast, knowing Zithembe will rushes to attack the creature of evil. It's part of the job when you're a holy do-gooder.
Which isn't fluffy at all. Not Zithembe, but the creature of evil mentionned earlier. Wait, now that you're thinking about it, Zithembe isn't really fluffy either. Too bad. Can Shabtis grow a fur? Lil" Hep promises herself she will ask him as soon as possible.
Hey, Zith, can Shabtis grow a fur?
Ah, that will show them! All those people who said that Hepsubia wasn't a woman of her word, unable to fulfill a promise!
Then, for good measure, the whimsical elf starts to sing a song about a bog. But not any bog. This one was a rattling bog. The joyous song seems totally out of place in the macabre.. well, place.
No squirrel was hurt during the song. Only an decidely-not-fluffy Asura, but that doesn't really count.
Weapon song, either +1 magical bonus to the song, or Defending, Flaming, Frost, Ghost touch, Keen, Mighty Cleaving, Shock, Seeking. Would not take Shock if I was you.

He advances toward the asura with his blade at the ready.

Maria advances forward and chugs an elixir, ready to spit sticky goo at the asura when she gets a good opportunity. Malachi activates the power of the ioun stone that floats around his head before advancing forward as well, ready to lay down a beating.
Asura didn't delay, it's just largely been doing things that don't have obvious 'tells'.
Hepsubia ponders the mysteries of the universe before launching into an extremely jaunty and inspiring song about a bog. Oh and she remembers something about this particular type of asura - they have the ability to maneuver large distances even in the midst of striking at their foes.
Whenever an adhukait hits with a melee attack during a full-attack action, it can move 10 feet before making its next attack. The adhukait’s normal speed does not limit this movement — it can move 10 feet after any successful hit among its four attacks, as long as it has another attack to make.
Zithembe calls upon spirits to bolster the group before advancing, targeting the asura for holy wrath.
The two-headed asura bares all of its teeth at the group. "If you've come to me to die then so be it!" It begins to advance forward but then, instead of moving to engage Malachi and Zithembe, it veers off into the swampy bog. The asura moves with surprising swiftness through several feet of the boggy terrain before finally being forced to slow down.
Double-move, assuming Malachi's one 10 ft. tentacle doesn't have any grab shenanigans going on~

Remembering that Maria said it can resist spells, Doc opts for a simple blast of icy cold.
Cold, Zith : 4d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 2) + 2 = 18
Reflex DC 18 for half. 30 foot cone aimed to the SE from the SE corner of his space misses everyone except the asura.
"It moves ... very quickly," he says very slowly even as he ambles over to stand closer to Zith and the Captain, pulling out a wand as he does.
Draw wand of mage armor.

Maria simply steps up and spits. A fair sized loogie emerges from her mouth and magically grows into reaching grabbing tendrils of glue that drill the asura, coating their bodies and attempting to glue them down.
+1 for a net +2 on her weapon from the song. Asura is Entangled for 2d4 ⇒ (4, 2) = 6 rounds, DC 16 Reflex or also glued to the ground. No SR and I don’t think it can remove the entangled easily.
She wipes up a bit of drool from her mouth, ”You’d think the recipe could be made to have a good flavor, but no. Old slimy porridge is the default. Maybe I’ll tinker with it next chance I get.”
She levels a stare at Zithembe, ”they are most certainly not a demon. They are an asura. Still an evil outsider but definitely not of demonkind. And they may actually be here permanently, not as a summons. In which case our killing of them will rid all planes of their danger. Which I think we can at least hope.”

"She did ... tell us that ... and much more ... back in the ... hideout, my friend," Doc whispers over Zithembe's stony shoulder while Hogo shiver-giggles.

Reflex (DC 16): 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (17) + 13 = 30
Doc conjures an icy blast as the asura draws close, managing to partially catch it with the spell. Maria follows this up with a hocked loogie, which entangles the asura but doesn't glue it to the ground.
Adjusted Doc's spell damage for the corrected Champion aura.

You have other spells you want to cast, or shall we proceed with our blades? Can you make his blades burn his hands, or grease them, or something even funnier?
