Ehren also inspects the text, finding it odd that Hallit has been transcribed to begin with. The tongue was not typically conveyed in textual form, but perhaps that in itself was the key to the puzzle.

Yui Shadowhare |

Rather than using a teleport to get back, Yui speeds back to join the others so she can teleport them to the tower. Clearly whatever Saint Lymerin was doing was related to the vision Pharasma had given her.
Once there, she explains the situation to the group, noting that they should move quickly to get to the tower before the ritual finishes or the demons figure out a way to assault it.

GM Kiora |

Beatrix examines the journal as well. She nods slowly, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. "This belonged to a Kellid named Wivver Noclan. He was studying the thin barriers between the planes here in Sarkoris, especially near Storasta. Apparently, some people called "Riftwardens" took interest in his work. Unfortunately, his research drew the ire of Warlord Kazrek Ironfist, and he was imprisoned in the Threshold of Iz for 'blasphemy' against the ancestors. He feared a great planar rift might form if the ley lines continued fluctuating."
Beatrix Linguistics: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Then, Yui appears. Rue nods in agreement with her words, her expression grave. "If a Saint of Iomedae is involved, this ritual must be of great significance. The Lady of Graves wouldn't have sent you there without reason. We shouldn't delay. Are you all ready?"

Unafe Two-Hearted |

Unafe's heart quickens as, together with Beatrix, Ehren, Hinagiku, and Anna, they manage to crack the code.
Then, when Yui noiselessly reappears, Unafe exhales in relief. Hallit: "Thank the ancestors that you're back, safe and unharmed. Your ability to so casually travel across this terrain is amazing!
"We can discuss this journal more later, but I agree: when the gods call, we answer with haste. I am ready to depart."

Ehren Ferron |

Ehren furrows his brow. "Wivver Noclan was one of Areelu Vorlesh's unwitting accomplices in opening the Worldwound. It would seem he realized his fears through his own actions."
The archdruid's confusion only deepens when he hears Yui's report. "We have not seen Saint Lymirin since the reclamation of Drezen," he remarks, glancing at Hinagiku. "What could she be doing here?"

Yui Shadowhare |

"I am not certain, but heading out immediately is important. I think I should teleport Unafe and Anna with me, then everyone else can come along via Amber," she says. "You will have to tell me how the Saint was involved in reclaiming Drezen later. That sounds like an interesting story."
"Rue, you should probably teleport over and hide immediately. I am not sure we should risk trying to explain the situation to Lymirin, who is notoriously brutal when it comes to demons. We will appear outside the tower to avoid any chance of her spotting you."

Hinagiku’s ears perk up as the group breaks the secret of the journal. Like Ehren, she recognized the writer’s name; it was only hours since they had discussed the three. She hoped the information could give insight to the crusade’s mages and aid them in dealing with the wound, but it seems from Noclan’s writing that the main notes had been destroyed, unfortunately. Once everyone has had a good look, she puts the journal in her messenger bag.
Yui arrived without a warning, fully hidden by layers of magic impenetrable to the mystic monk’s senses, and taking somewhat by surprise. Hinagiku continued to be impressed by the power of her magic. She remains silent and listens to the nogitsune’s report. Hearing St-Lymirin’s name bring back many memories, mostly of a never ending day where many people, both on the crusader’s side, and against had lost their lives. She clearly remember the hours she had spent by the planetar’s side, witnessing her wrath for those marked by evil, coming to understand much too well why she had been given her moniker.
Taldane”Good question, I cannot begin to make a guess.“ Hinagiku responds to Ehren. ”But, Shadowhare-san is right, this is much too dangerous for Mrs. Arueshalae…. I would go as far as to suggest she stays here. Last time, she saw through the Bound Horror’s magic and destroyed him in seconds. She did not hesitate at all. “

Myrna Riversoar |

Myrna scoffs, somewhat filled with disbelief at Yui's story. While the situation in the streets was much worse and more violent than she had anticipated, it stands in sharp contrast to the situation she described in the tower.
"Honestly I'm not sure I believe that's real," she says. "You said there were robed choir boys? Sounds more like a mirage than anything you'd find in flesh and blood here in Storasta... but if Pharasma told you to go, and there is something this absurd waiting for us, I agree we should check it out immediately."
She checks her equipment and nods with readiness. "Yeah, okay, I don't need to do anything. I'm ready to go now. Take me to meet the choir boys!"

Beatrix is confused by the appearance of a saint here, but her heart quickens all the same. A cynic at heart, Beatrix truly does believe in the power of valor and courage, and in the story of the mortal who became a goddess through great acts. Without much direct experience to the more formal or real aspects to the faith, however, Beatrix looked forward to meeting one of Iomedae's greatest servants.
"I don't think we should leave anyone alone here in this city," she says. "It would probably be best if we stayed together, even if this Lymirin might pose a threat to Rue. Who knows if we'll ever come back to this cave, or have the time at the appropriate interval to use sending to contact Rue."

Yui Shadowhare |

"I don't disagree that it's hard to believe. I can't imagine why such a powerful servant of Iomedae is here. But the demons are avoiding it, so I can't imagine it's an illusion that's their doing. I also agree Rue shouldn't stay here, but entering the tower itself is quite risky. We'll arrive outside and enter."
Moving to Anna and Unafe, she places a hand on the shoulder of each. "Here we go," she says beginning to draw upon her magic to teleport them to the tower. Once they signal they're ready, she pulls them with her through space to the entrance of the tower.

Rue shrugs. "I am sorry, but I cannot teleport. Don't worry though, I can keep up."
Yui then vanishes with Sana and Unafe.
A brief sensation of displacement, then the trio appears just outside the tower. Yui feels a slight tug of resistance, recognizing they've arrived just slightly off-target. Still, the entrance to Nekrosof Tower stands before them, bathed in a protective golden glow, the sounds of battle distant but ever-present.

Sana looks up from the book while Beatrix finishes reading through it, suddenly glancing about as she realizes Yui is planning to teleport them now. "Uh, if we want to make sure the dead don't rise as undead, we'll have to behead them. So, if we want limited knowledge to Vang, or just... not letting undead spread, we might want to do that, unless you guys know another way." she offers.
After the description of the goings-on at Nekrosof, Sana just looks confused. "I mean, it sounds like a good thing, so why do I not trust it..." she asks, but gives a small shrug, acquiescing to the teleportation, and switching Amber over to her ingress/egress effect, light shifting and shimmering in place as Sana vanishes, leaving it behind.

"You did not enunciate nearly enough e's or r's when you described this place. It's crrreeeepy. Eeeeeerrrrily calm." Sana whispers to Yui as they appear at her targeted location. She quickly darts to the side of the building, towards any shadows she can find to enable her allies to hide once they do arrive... or at the very least, not out in the open or in brilliant light. She didn't like how unsettled she was by something that was clearly a good sign. Maybe it was the expectation that there would be no good signs in storasta.

GM Kiora |

Alase blinks as Yui, Unafe, and Sana vanish, leaving the rest of them standing in silence. She dismisses Tonbarse, her god fading into a spectral mist.
"Okay, so I guess we've gotta catch up, huh?" she remarks, glancing around at her companions. "Guess we'll have to hoof it across the city."
Her gaze shifts toward Arueshalae. "It's easy to end up out-numbered. We’ll have to be careful. Our best chance is to move silently, and keep to the shadows and buildings."

Alase gives a small sigh of relief, relaxing. "Well, that's reassuring. Crossing this city can be dangerous. Thank the Spirits for clever magic."
Rue steps closer, looking toward Amber. "Anna's powers continue to surprise me," she says softly, smiling. "It's comforting to know you have such reliable allies. I'll be ready when the signal comes."
Unafe stretches briefly, shaking off the slight disorientation of the teleportation. She adjusts the new shield at her side, eyes roaming cautiously across the strangely peaceful cathedral in front of them. "This place makes my scales itch," she mutters softly. "Too peaceful for my liking."
Minutes pass slowly as the heroes remain vigilant, the tension of anticipation mixing with the odd tranquility of the hymn emanating from the tower. Nothing stirs nearby, leaving them standing silently, each alone with their thoughts, waiting.

Having had no reason to believe that the others were waiting on a signal, given that the plan seemed to be 'we go, then everyone uses Amber', Sana waits an uncomfortable amount of time. Had something gone wrong on the other end? Had beheading the corpses become dismembering? Had they found an additional location to search through, a closet filled with death daemons? Had the missing hezrou shown up and brought friends? Were they searching the adept's bodies to take their probable wand and likely scroll-or-two? Maybe a secret key that - should they have continued delving in the riftwarden's keep - would have lead to something of value?
Sana always hated the 'we-have-to-go' feeling, because it always meant forgetting important things like that. Like bodies of captains that they'd need to go recover if they could... along with cultists. It was a shame that she'd overestimated her own abilities and the result had been so... catastrophic for their plans. She huffs, and idly decides to remind the others, if they weren't in mortal danger, that this group still existed and was waiting, by having the little light flutter back and forth, as if pacing impatiently. Silently. Judgingly.

Alase rests a hand on Rue’s shoulder. The summoner’s expression is calm, but her spear is still in hand. Beside her, Rue closes her eyes for a moment, drawing in a slow breath. Her wings flex once before vanishing into Amber.
Rue appears next to Sana. “Thanks, Anna. I’ll stay to the edges,” Rue murmurs. She turns, then vaults lightly from the ground and glides soundlessly to a nearby roof overlooking the approach, then crouches down. Her voice whispers across their minds “I’ll watch from above. If anything moves toward you, I’ll know.”
Alase appears next, stepping beside Sana. She leans in and whispers, “If this is a trap, it’s the most elaborate one I’ve ever seen. But whatever this is, it’s repelling the demons. That makes it worth the risk... I think.”

Hinagiku |

Taldane"It would take a mind that I cannot begin to comprehend to prepare this kind of trap... " Hinagiku agrees with Alase.
The mystic monk looks to the others expectantly, waiting to see whether they are ready to move.

"Well, that rules out one possibility", Sana sends back to Rue, "I hadn't thought of it until Alase spoke up, but... it could be similar to Lymyrin's banner. Maybe the offensive version at play? I've never seen it. But if it is like the Sword of Valor, it might be worthwhile to see if we can teleport you closer to Drezen. Do you know what happens when demons try to teleport beyond the barrier?"
"So... the mind of an outsider." Sana responds quietly, "Just like... avoid sharing desires. This reminds me far too much of the Succubus who was really into Iomedae, and maybe there's a wishcrafter demon out there with this kind of hate-on for her. Whether a particularly skilled Glabrezu or a Lilitu... or something else entirely." Sana draws her parasol off of her backpack, idly playing with it and flicking it around.
"When everyone's ready, I'm ready to head inside."
Sana will move quietly, but not attempt to hide visually once the group begins to head in, continuing to fidget with her lucerne parasol.

"If a demon tries to teleport beyond the Sword's ward, it's like smashing into a wall. Very unpleasant. You have to go around."
Together, they cross into the cathedral. The light hits them first. It is golden and intense, forcing eyes to narrow or blink until they adjust. And when they do, the sight awaiting them brings all thoughts to a halt.
An altar to Iomedae stands at the heart of the space, crafted of gleaming gold. Robed choirboys stand in two even lines to one side, motionless and serene. They stop singing as the others approach.
And behind the altar, towering over even the tallest among them, stands Saint Lymirin.
The eagle-headed woman raises her feathered wings as the heroes enter. Her armor shimmers with the same divine light that fills the room. To her left, a young woman with shining blonde hair and a serene expression steps forward. She wears garments of gold and white, and her voice is clear and melodic. "Welcome, travelers. Here you shall find succor from the tainted land."
On the saint's right, another girl, this one with ginger hair and keen eyes, adds, "Welcome. We are champions of the glorious Crusade. No evil shall follow you here."
Behind them, the door remains open, the battlefield beyond still echoing with distant roars and screams as the demons rage war against the corrupted fey.

Ehren looks around with a wide eye, awestruck by the juxtaposition of the peaceful congregation with the apocalyptic ruin beyond the tower. He looks up at Saint Lymirin, not initially recognizing the planetar from their brief encounter years ago, when she laid waste to demonic legions at Drezen, securing their victory. But as he has experienced himself, it was natural for such powerful beings to be fluid in form.
"Greetings. I am Ehren of clan Ferron, Archdruid of Sarkoris," he says to the young woman, bowing his head respectfully. He gestures at the gathering with his free hand, his initial skepticism overtaken by wonder. "What are the Inheritor's faithful doing so deep in enemy territory? In contrast to Ehren, Hinagiku eyes are shut, her mystical senses allowing her to see what she needs to see, to be partially blinded not by light but by sanctity, something that agrees more with her nature.
The mystic monk steps forward by Ehren’s side, giving a shallow bow to the people greeting them and to the planetar; a bow that, for those who remember the appearance of St-Lymirin, pales in comparison to the first ones she gave. Hinagiku’s tail becomes still as the sanctity of the church is slowly obscured by creeping darkness and evil that comes to encompass and oppress her senses. Her posture changes subtly at the realization that they are walking into a trap, somewhat tensing, but little changes in her expression, kindness still seen at the corner of her eyes and lips. Though subtle, these changes are enough of a tell for those who meditated with Unafe and her in the morning, they say: This is a trap, prepare.
The monk leaves the front of the line, motioning for Unafe to take her place in front; perhaps for her to introduce herself, perhaps let her take the first strike at the fake saint.
At the same time, the monk projects her thoughts towards Arueshalae, hoping that their demon ally is close enough to hear her.

Rue's voice rings out in the heroes' minds: "Hinagiku says this is a trap! I will be right there!"
You discover that the space around you is actually an illusion. As it evaporates around you, a wave of revulsion washes over you. The beautiful cathedral, with its gleaming marble walls, radiant stained-glass windows, and intricate golden decorations, melts into ruin. Where Saint Lymirin once stood now looms a grotesque hag, towering and sinister. Her gray, pallid skin hangs in tattered strips, marred by deep wounds that ooze dark blood. Her skirt is a disturbing tapestry of slimy river weeds intertwined with rusted, razor-sharp blades that scrape and clatter as she moves. Rats dart and scurry frantically through her foul garments, their eyes glinting and whiskers twitching nervously as they navigate the tangle of fabric and metal.
Where angelic figures once stood gracefully now appears smaller, yet no less horrifying hags. Their jaundiced eyes bulge grotesquely. Their hair is a tangled mass of grime and filth.
The radiant choirboys' forms melt away into ghastly apparitions: bloated, waterlogged corpses of drowned men, once proud Crusaders and brave Kellids, now reduced to shambling horrors. Decay drips from their limbs, each step leaving a trail of rancid slime and fragments of rotten flesh upon the cracked and grimy cathedral floor.
The once magnificent altar, previously glowing with divine light, is revealed to be chipped and defiled, smeared with unspeakable stains and surrounded by a profane aura. The vibrant stained-glass windows now stand shattered, their fragments scattered across the cold stone ground, reflecting twisted images of your surroundings.
Dominating the space behind this grisly assembly lies a monstrous carcass, a gigantic amphibian beast in a state of advanced decomposition. Its bloated remains pulse obscenely, teeming with vermin that crawl through open wounds and gnaw at exposed bone. The overwhelming stench of rot and corruption fills your nostrils, nearly gagging you with its potency.

"One."
All three hags are green hags: malevolent beings that embody the corruption of nature and the perversion of beauty. These creatures are known to dwell in desolate swamps and decaying forests, places where the natural order has been twisted to reflect their own vile natures.
Green hags are infamous for their cunning and cruelty. They often disguise themselves as alluring figures or wise elders, using deception to lure the unsuspecting into their grasp. Once their victims are ensnared, they revel in sowing despair, turning hope into hopelessness, and purity into corruption. Their lairs are typically hidden in areas that were once vibrant but have since fallen into decay, mirroring the hag's own descent from beauty to monstrosity.
When green hags gather in covens of three, their malevolent powers are amplified. Such covens are capable of weaving potent enchantments and curses, their combined magic capable of manipulating the very fabric of reality to torment their victims. The presence of a coven often signifies a region steeped in unnatural phenomena, where the land itself seems to conspire against the innocent.
You have already encountered green hags and therefore have access to their statblocks.
If your intention is to start combat and take a surprise round, then you will need to roll initiative and take such actions.

Unafe Two-Hearted |

Unafe attempts to shake off the wrongness or attacking what seems to clearly be an angel. I must trust Hinagiku’s judgement here. She would not lead us astray, and she’s a very difficult one to fool.
On Rue’s signal, Unafe lunges forward, attempting to grab the ‘saint’ in the middle, and to draw her close, bringing her around so that she's within reach of her allies as well.

Perception v. Hidden (Luck, Mythic, Lens): 1d20 + 27 + 2 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 27 + 2 + 2 + 4 = 38
Sana continues to idly play with her drawn lucerne hammer, the weapon appearing as a perfectly ordinary parasol to most, whipping it to and fro, pretending not to pay too much attention and instead simply listening to her allies and the enemy, grimacing slightly as her weapon slips slightly in her hand. As her allies give the signal to fight, she sees nothing but the celestial chorus-children and the women, the illusion not melting away... so her eyes dart about the room for any possible threats, rather than focusing on what her allies were telling her were threats.
Sana will spend her surprise standard on a move action to look for anything hidden nearby. Her perception checks only decrement every 110 feet and she sees through invisibility.

Myrna Riversoar |

Will (heroism): 1d20 + 11 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 11 + 2 = 14
Myrna is suspicious of the "Saint" from the very beginning, but her senses can't pierce the veil of illusion. When Rue warns them of an ambush, she grips her hammer more tightly and prepares for a fight. Myrna is frustrated that she can't see through the illusion or anticipate what will happen, but when the count reaches one she turns towards the crowd of false choir boys behind her and shouts:
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
She turns and cries, "You false choir boys think you can trick us?? NO!" With the force of her voice, flames shoot from her mouth and threaten to set the crowd of creatures behind her ablaze.
Intimidate (vs. not-Kellid, heroism): 1d20 + 30 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 30 + 2 = 39
Fire Damage: 1d10 ⇒ 8
Myrna casts blistering invective, which affects all the "choir boys" except the two that are farthest from her. If she succeeds at intimidating them, they take the damage, become demoralized, and must attempt a DC 17 Reflex save or catch fire.

Lieutenant Medici |

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Beatrix's face falls and her lips and nose curl into a disgusted sneer when the illusion falls from her eyes. She doesn't hie her rage as the group prepares themselves to attack, praying to the Heavens for a fiery intervention. In answer to her prayer, a pillar of holy flame roars from the once-grand cathedral ceiling onto the hags who desecrated this holy place with their presence.

GM Kiora |

Alase, acting swiftly, weaves a spell that quickens the movements of her closest companions: Hinagiku, herself, Unafe, Myrna, and Sana feel a surge of supernatural speed, their reactions heightened. Then, Unafe's hand darts out and grips onto the "Saint". Struggling in Unafe’s grip, the hag-Saint spits venomous curses, eyes flaring with malice as she’s dragged into reach of Unafe's waiting allies. Rue quickly seizes the opportunity to step forward and swipe at her with her starknife, leaving a thin, bleeding wound down her shoulder.
Beatrix's roaring column of holy flame plunges down onto the dais, engulfing the two smaller hags. They shriek in agony as their twisted forms burn, only partially shielded by their dark magic. The larger hag, still gripped tightly by Unafe, narrowly escaped the flames.
Meanwhile, Sana's gaze darts around the room. Her feet slip slightly on slick puddles scattered across the cathedral's floor. She realizes that these pools of stagnant water will complicate their footing and make any swift movements perilous.
Finally, flames burst forth from Myrna's shout, igniting several undead choirboys. They reel back, shrieking and writhing as the flames take hold, their illusion completely shattered as panic grips their bloated, decaying forms.
At the same time, Alase incants another spell, causing her own flesh to harden like bark.

Alase casts barkskin on herself. Unafe grapples the "Saint". Sana does not notice anything hidden nearby but she does notice that there are a lot of puddles on the floor, making the ground slick (difficult terrain). Alase casts haste on Hinagiku, herself, Unafe, Myrna, and Sana. Myrna catches 4 choirboys on fire and intimidates all of them and they are all demoralized. Unafe pulls the big hag out of the way from Beatrix's spell, but Beatrix grazes the other 2 hags successfully. Rue deals 13 damage to Saint Hag.
All characters who succeeded at the Will Save must make a DC 18 fort save or be sickened (this is a poison effect) from the horrible stench.

The ginger-haired hag evades the devastating impact, her features contorting with rage as she hisses spitefully at Unafe, "Foolish brute! You dare to lay hands upon us?" Even as she spits her venomous words, she backs away, her form shimmering and dissolving from sight.
Unafe, undeterred, holds the struggling hag firmly in her powerful grip, pressing her advantage. "You think pinning me will stop the rot?" she snarls. Her eyes roll back as a ghostly, sickly-green hand manifests from thin air beside her, reaching menacingly.
The spectral hand floats away and launches a sizzling glob of caustic slime directly at Alase. Alase cries out sharply as the acid grazes her, burning upon contact. The greenish ooze clings persistently to her clothes, sizzling and eating away at the fabric and skin beneath.
The rotten choirboys begin to advance, the fastest of them reaching Hinagiku and swinging at her with his sword, moaning a dirge.

Surrounded by undead choirboys, Beatrix clutches her holy symbol of Iomedae, raises it up high into the air, and cries out, "Inheritor, send me the power to wipe these abominations from existence!" Then, with her holy symbol shining, she releases a wave of positive energy that fills the room, burning the flesh from the undead servants of the hags.

Ehren backs away from the melee between Unafe and the hideous hag, turning his attention to the smaller one further away. Narrowing his eye in contempt of the creatures' deception, he gestures at the blonde-haired hag, calling upon his druidic magic to twist her shape into something utterly harmless - and for her mind to follow.

With a brilliant flash, divine energy cascades outward from Beatrix's holy symbol, a radiant wave washing over the undead. Yet, to her dismay, the channeling barely grazes the grotesque choirboys, their dark energies resisting the holy wave as they press their assault. One choirboy, however, stumbles slightly from the blast, hissing and smoldering as its decaying flesh bubbles and chars.
As more and more undead step forward, blades drawn and swinging toward Hinagiku, the mystic monk reacts instantly. She shapes mystical energy along her limbs. Her strikes slash through the air, cutting down the advancing choirboy, whose decayed form crumbles to dust, utterly destroyed by the power of her refined ki.
Meanwhile, the Archdruid gestures sharply, uttering words of transformative power. The blonde hag shrieks briefly in surprise, then abruptly shrinks, her form rapidly collapsing until only a confused toad remains, croaking feebly amid the chaotic melee.
The remaining choirboys, undeterred, press their attack, stepping close to swing rusted longswords clumsily. Hinagiku and Beatrix easily evade or deflect the attacks, the undead's efforts lacking the precision that would be necessary to breach their defenses.
