Knowledge (engineering) or Survival: Protective power dampeners have been removed from the portals. A successful check lets a character find replacement parts among the scrap here and jury-rig them to dampen the portal’s power.
Ibid can do +11+1d6 for knowledge(engineering)
Knowledge (planes) or Spellcraft: Jethzerai has scrawled runes around the circumference of each small portal, causing the machines to summon more intense flames than normal. Identifying the key runes and marring them safely requires a successful check.
Ibid can do +11+1d6 for knowledge(planes)

---- The four tasks for each portal---
Dexterity or Disable Device: The wires and other components wrapped around the portal rings act as conductors, augmenting the interplanar connection. Using an e-pick grants a PC attempting this check a +5 bonus.
Cyrus Primary - Disable Decive
Knowledge (engineering) or Survival: Protective power dampeners have been removed from the portals. A successful check lets a character find replacement parts among the scrap here and jury-rig them to dampen the portal’s power.
Ibib Primary - Kn (Engineering)
Knowledge (planes) or Spellcraft: Jethzerai has scrawled runes around the circumference of each small portal, causing the machines to summon more intense flames than normal. Identifying the key runes and marring them safely requires a successful check.
Ibid Primary - Knowledge (Planes)
Strength or Use Magic Device: Large power cells have been snugly integrated into each portal’s design and locked in place with magical adhesives of Jethzerai’s design. Wriggling a battery out of its socket requires strength and patience; with a successful Strength check, a PC pulls the battery free after a few minutes of applied force. Alternatively, with a successful Use Magic Device check, a PC can deduce the various command words that disable the magical adhesives. It is also possible to destroy the battery (hardness x, yy hp), but doing so might cause the battery to explode, which might be … unhealthy.
Cyrus - Primary UMD
But we have 5 portals - so this has to be done 5x.
For round 1 I can work on Portal 2 Spellcraft.
Round 2 I can aid on Cyrus' UMD check.

![]() |

Oh snap - Ibid and I have heroism so we have +2 on all skill checks too!!

![]() |

Ok, so the way I read this, we will all work together, doing all four of the tasks for each of the 5 portals.
I'll make the first check at a +20, and I think I am the only one with dd, so no aid there.
Second check made by ibid, presumably with Miro aiding, same for the third check. Last check I will make with Finarin aiding.
Let's do the first one and see how it goes... I will make all of my rolls, spoilered.

You are not distracted, so you can take 10. Note that you can each work on separate portal with the task you are best on, and then switch the portal for next round. e.g.
Round 1:
Cyrus - Disable Device on Portal 1
Ibid - Kn. Engineering on Portal 3
x working on portal 4
y working on portal 5
z working on portal 6
...
Round 2:
Cyrus - Disable Device on Portal 3
Ibid - Kn. Engineering on Portal 4
x working on portal 5
etc..

GM Karma |

The modifications to the portals are complex, and completely disabling each of the five functioning portals requires four separate steps that the PCs can attempt in any order.
Just wanted to highlight this... Based on Cyrus' post, there might be some misunderstanding.
And you are working somewhat against time, you just don't know how much time you have ;) And Lort, if you feel skill-less, there's the option to use STR instead of UMD. If Cyrus is busy with Disable Device, someone else can work on the UMD/STR task on another portal.

Ok, I'm getting a clearer picture now. Ideally this while thing takes us 4 rounds because we gave someone working on all 5 spots at once. So let's try this...
Round one:
Everyone picks a spot, Lort and Faustus work together with a strength check. Cyrus uses dd, miro and ibid both use knowledge checks independently, and Finarin uses umd or spellcraft, whichever one you think is better.
If I had access to a computer I would map it out, but until then let's assume what I mentioned above. Everyone make your best check and we will assume we are all working on different nodes for the first round, with the exception of Lort and faustus working together on the fifth. Once everyone has posted we can move to round 2 and see what we still need to do.
Jyri- you can use my spoiler #1 dd check as my round 1 roll unless you want me to reroll with the proper format :)

Faustus has the following, by check.
Check 1: (defers to Cyrus)
Check 2: Survival +13
Check 3: Kn: Plans +7 (+11 to ID critters) or Spellcraft +8
Check 4: STR +4
He'll focus on the survival check, I think, if others have the rest!

GM Karma |

OK, it's weekend and I'll be busy and without my laptop. I'll move things to the final part in sunday evening or monday.

I apologize for my extended absence, Karma. You've been doing a great job and it was nothing against you. I should be back to a normal at least 1/day posting rate, now.

GM Karma |

There's quite a many things going on in the encounter. Please don't hesitate to ask, if something is unclear.
In short:
-The small portal gain power at the end of every round, until they are fully powered.
-Once the lava flow has reached the big pool, the big gate starts powering up (and once it opens, something bad might happen
-Fully powered small portals have a change to spawn elementals
Anyway, this is the final encounter, and I'm quite optimistic you will manage to avoid triggering an interplanar super-volcano and dying in most horrible ways. So, to prepare the chronicles, I'll need the usual from you:
Player Name:
Character Name:
PFS #:
Chronicle #:
Starting XP:
Starting PP:
Starting Fame:
Starting Gold:
Day Job Roll:
And let me know if you're trying to complete a faction mission, or have any questions about them.

So, can you note, Jyri, that Faustus will be checking the "accept surrender" box on the Silver Crusade card?
Thanks!

GM Karma |

So there, one catastrophe averted, and mission reported. BTW, if you have any questions about the story, please ask. The characters find a lot information in the memory drive...
One thing which I think you guessed wrong was that Tig-0 wasn't hacked. It just resumed the original programming. Karamoss had issued the destruction of the Forge, but with it's damaged memory banks the poor robot wasn't aware of it until it was interfacing with the console.
This was pretty much a railroad scenario, but I liked that they made a challenging final battle without making over-powerful opponents. In fact, I loved that the BBEG was a level 2 evoker :) You didn't have much trouble since you were prepared, but I can imagine a group without fire resistance, adamantine and/or skill monkey would be in trouble.
BTW, I would want a confirmation from Miro that he is spending 5PP for a faction change.

![]() |

That was fun and very well done Jyri! I do have more than a passing curiosity about the story that we uncover in the memory drive, but you don't have to type a bunch of extra stuff out just to share it. I am sure I can find it somewhere.

![]() |

Of course! I am wanting to spend 5 PP to change factions to Sovereign Court so Finarin and I can hang out.

![]() |

Awesome game, Jyri! It was a ton of fun squaring off against some technigical baddies, plus having all the tech described in such a way that it still took some imagination to completely understand what it was. Also, the final fight was cool with all the different/crazy aspects going on all at the same time!

![]() |

I love the smoothness of how you run a game Jyri. Well done again. I feel so fortunate to be able to learn from you , Jack, and Damien the nuances of Gming.
I hate that there is technology in Pathfinder, but people game for different reasons. Overall not a bad little scenario.
"Come Miro, one must see to those .... shoes. And I know of someone that can update those .... overalls .... you call these garments that are not quite a pant, and not quite a shirt. Come, come, much to do."

GM Karma |

And here of the chronicles. Just check those techno-gadgets available!
Let me know if anything's amiss in the chronicle sheets, it was quite late when I was doing them...
Thanks for the game, everyone!

I appreciate you running the game, Karma. I wish I could have done it more justice. Thanks again!
