2d20 ⇒ (15, 8) = 23
You move forward, weapons drawn and ready. Just as your front rank is about to step through the archway labeled "Royal Family", Spidre sees something drip down onto the floor just ahead. Halting, Spidre and Thyra look up and see a large, dark shape on the ceiling, which then drops down onto the floor in front of you!
Your way is now blocked by some unholy amalgamation of corpse parts. Its center is some kind of incomprehensible mish-mash of jumbled bones and rotting flesh. Protruding from the top of this central mass is something resembling a spinal column (with lingering shreds of skin and tendons hanging about it here and there) that ends in a group of rib-cage fragments that form something almost like a circular mouth whose "teeth" are sharp-pointed ribs. Meanwhile, long sequences of bones extend from the sides of the central mass to form multi-segmented appendages reminiscent of spider legs, some of which end in skeletal hands or feet while others are tipped with humanoid skulls.

Spidre is the first to react!
So, the general layout: you guys are all still in the entry area, having stopped just before stepping through the archway into the hallway. Thyra and Spidre are in front, standing right at the archway. The monster is in the hallway, also standing right at the archway, and thus adjacent to Thyra and Spidre. The rest of you are in the back of the group, unable to reach the monster and any ranged attacks across Thyra/Spidre will have a bit of cover. Spidre, you're up!

Thyra'll kick some of the creature aside, "Damn fiend, good job Spidre, ya killed it quickly, no time ta waste,"
She'll again begin heading down the hallway, looking back at her group, "Here's hopin' we make betta progress this time,"
Halsere Chael-Oren |
We've grown in prowess - but it would be a mistake to try to plow through things. Slow and steady, thats the way.
GM Jiggy |
The first monster defeated, you continue forward into the Royal Family section of the tomb. The hallway terminates in a spiral staircase that heads down. At the bottom, you find yourself at one end of another hallway. Eight ornate stone doors line the sides (four on each), though a few of them are broken, slabs of stone lying in fragments on the floor. A ninth ornate door is set in the other end of the hallway.
More pressing, however, is the throng of living dead populating the hall. Several walking corpses see you and turn to attack!

The hallway is about 15ft wide and some 60ft long. There are 8 skeletons and 5 ghouls, scattered in a mixed group through the entire area. They look to be approximately the same sorts of skeletons and ghouls you've fought in the past. Thyra's up!
Thyra Fireforge |
Thyra'll run forward into the throng, drawing to gather the skeletons onto her.
"Come an' get me ya bone heads!"
She'll take a slash or two at ones in the throng as well.

GM Jiggy |
But think of how far you've come since 1st level: that second attack actually hits.
Thyra takes the lead, meeting up with a front-rank skeleton and swinging twice, but manages only to hit it once! Even so, she nearly topples it!
The ghouls then advance! Three of them are far enough back that they have to use the Dash action to approach the party. Three of them come down the hall, while the two nearer ones converge against Thyra!

At the command of the mighty mage, the two-thirds of the hallway that aren't inhabited by your party suddenly fills with billowing flames. A moment later, the fire disappears and you see several charred corpses on the ground.
Combat over. So! There are four doorways on either side of the hallway, and one at the far end. The second and third doors on the left, as well as the second and fourth doors on the right, are all broken open. Where to?
Thyra Fireforge |
Thyra spins her battleaxe, clearing any remains off it, surveying the charred remains of her foes, she'll grunt, "Hnngh, good one Halsere, let's press on, our fights only jus' begun,"
Thyra will continue boldly striding forward into the unknown tomb of horrors, eager for whatever awaits her next.
Thyra Fireforge |
"Aye, let's go," Looking to Spidre to join her, as they step forward through the doors, pushing it open with her axe just in case.
Spidre |
Spidre sends his spider to investigate the open rooms while he joins Thyra on the front line.

GM Jiggy |
Thyra and Spidre push open the large stone doors at the far end of the hall, revealing a once-luxurious burial chamber, truly fit for royalty.
The room is about 30ft across in any direction. In each corner is an upright sarcophagus, adorned to resemble ancient rulers. In the center of the room is another sarcophagus, this one prone, with a stone plaque at the head which reads "Halav the Great".
Just as you've taken all this in, the center sarcophagus and three of the upright ones are all pushed open from within, and living corpses level spears at your group! The one that didn't open is the one on the left in the back.

Everybody but Hasere is up. Thyra and Spidre are in the doorway, with the rest of you behind them. These undead look different than the ones you've fought before, and wear old but royal-looking armor and wield spears.

Am I understanding correctly that one of the skeletons is King Halav the Great?
Thyra'll proceed forward cautiously with her shield, rallying Spidre forward as well.
Rally Temp Hitpoints: 1d8 ⇒ 4

Pietro Elitov |
Pietro casts a spell to try to bring down the skeletons.
Maximized Shatter, on the largest group I can get. 24 damage, Con for half. Disadvantage for skeletons, maybe?
GM Jiggy |
Thyra steps into the room and inspires Spidre!
Pietro's spell is a bit smaller than the room and most of the targets are in corners, so he's only able to affect the center creature and the one in the back-right corner. Also, they're not predominantly skeletal. Still a good bit of rotten flesh.
CON: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
CON: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
So 12 damage each on center and back-right. Spidre and Mirrel are up. Since Mirrel mentioned being busy, if he hasn't posted by the time Spidre does, we'll go ahead and bot him this round.

Dang, Spidre's rolling hot.
Spidre's first two swings take down the center creature, and his third wounds his other opponent!
Spidre's opponent, originally from back-right, now has 20 damage total. The two from the near corners, engaging Thyra, are still fresh. And Mirrel's kinda standing in the middle of it all, between Spidre and Thyra in the center of all the action.
I guess it's been more than 48 hours since it became the party's turn and we haven't heard from Halsere, so I'll bot this turn:
Firebolt at Spidre's opponent: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11, Fire damage: 2d10 ⇒ (9, 4) = 13
That's a miss.
Spidre's opponent attacks him!

Spear: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27, Crit Damage: 2d10 + 5 ⇒ (7, 8) + 5 = 20
Spidre takes two heavy hits!
The other two creatures turn their attention to the pesky bard! I'm assuming Thyra will use her shield thing on the first attack.
Spear (DIS+8): 2d20 ⇒ (6, 19) = 25=14, Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Spear: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13, Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Spear: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25, Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Spear: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14, Damage: 1d10 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Mirrel takes one spear to the gut while the other three attacks come way too close for comfort, but nevertheless miss.
Party up!
