Sorry I haven't contributed much to this discussion, I won't make a habit of it; Xexik, since it's going to come up sooner rather than later, depending on how long you've been in Kenabres maybe you and I could have met at some point? Lina is more or less a city guard slash crusader stationed locally, it's pretty ill-defined, so there would have been ample opportunity to meet. I'd be at the very least concerned about the insectoid followed by a Horror.

            holy symbol visible?
Actually that's a good question. Icehawk, do you have a problem with the tattoos on Lothar's hands and shoulders working as holy symbols? My fluff had it that way, but I don't know if that's legit mechanically.

Normally, that's kinda iffy, as a holy symbol can be sundered, but tattoos can't.
But, in turn, I could let you have it and give caritical hit's agaisnt you a small chance to mar the tattoos and render them useless as a holy symbol until you receive magical healing.

Say confirming a critical with a crit-range roll rather than just a normal hit?

Unfortunately the mark wears off living beings after about a month... but you could keep refreshing it.
By the way, is there some plausible story reason why we would *ever* team up with someone that looks so plainly evil and worships an evil God... or are we just hand-waving that we are all okay with it?

Well, you're all gonna be stuck with each other for a while soon enough.
And, those with know (religion) may know that the red mantis assassins, while assassins, have a unique code of morals- once bought, they're very bought- dispite the willingness to do horrible things, earning one's trust will produce quite an ally.
In addition, depending on your character, you very well may think that you may be able to redeem them-
It's one of the reasons I remove the paladins can't interact with evil rule- for the sake of redemption.
In addition, red mantis assassins personally go out of thier way to assassinate would be userpers of kings, and never take any contracts on rightfully ruling monarchs.

Is the reputation of Red Mantis Assassins of having a strong code of conduct also why he would even be allowed in the city in the first place? I mean yeah, there's Hellknights in the crusades, but Kenabres went crazy on the inquisitions and Xexik looks really damn evil.

I imagine xexik is constantly walking one hell of a thin line between being attacked and not, maintaining this line through a small degree of fear.
Xexik also is likely always watched by at least one guard, though they may try not to make it obvious.
Thirdly-
A higher up in the guards may have purchased xexik's services in killing someone, in the hopes of getting two birds with one stone.
Instead, he ended up having to offer him a degree of protection in the town in exchange for his services.

I'd imagine there's a "Well, if he wants to die fighting demons, that will be less demons *and* less Red Mantis in the world" attitude, too.

And the campain as already taken a not-insignificant divergence from the source material.
When I'm not expected to run exactly as the book says, I kinda like the AP idea a bit more.
given my admittedly small sample size, I'm reasonably sure that's true of all of the APs

General rule on ties in opposed rolls is that the one with the higher modifier wins. So, uh, Hanna has init +3, if the maggot has a modifier to the roll less than that, she goes before it.

Didn't get the greatest attack roll, but given that for this round at least I'm hitting flat foot AC, I should be fine
I would appreciate flanking though
