About Lina Weaver

About Lina

An energetic young woman with great force of personality, Lina's dedication to her goddess is strong, and her loyalty and trust is rewarded with the favor of Lady Luck and the ability to strike down evil where she may find it. Nevertheless, she puts a lot of stock in the ability to resolve situations with a silver tongue, some skill, and a little sneaking around. This derives from her experience as a girl, when a youthful misadventure ended in Lina getting stuck behind enemy lines in the Worldwound. She was saved by a mysterious woman who skillfully got Lina past cultists and to safety with the crusaders before disappearing, and the memory has stuck with Lina ever since.

Lina believes in the role of a paladin to serve as an exemplar, to be strong in order to protect the weak, and to inspire others to greater heights. As the shadow of the Fifth Crusade looms, Lina is determined to do as much as she can--while hiding her own fear of what may come from the demonic horde, and that her good luck may eventually run out.

The Story So Far:

Warning: Spoilers for Wrath of the Righteous book 1!

Lina's week went from bad to worse when in the middle of the festival of Armasse, a massive assault was mounted on Kenabres by demonic forces. A great battle erupted between the city's protector, the silver dragon Terendelev, and Khorramzadeh, a balor known as 'The Storm King.' The ground in the city square split open, and the last thing Lina saw before blacking out in the fall was Terendelev's head being cut off by the demon.

In the caverns below the city, Lina woke beside several others who, they realized quickly, were saved by Terendelev; with her last breath, she cast Feather Fall to save them. Besides Lina, there was Azlana, a celestial-blooded woman who Lina knew, and had been close with Azlana's missing brother Zade; Lothar, a huge man with great passion for his faith; Hanna, an elf whose magic invoked that of dragonkind; Haruto, a traveller from a far-off land who also worshipped Desna, and secretly a kitsune; and Xexik, a strange insectoid individual accompanied by a horrific creature. Along with several civilians who had survived the fall, they rallied, and began making their way through the caves.

The party fought off giant insects, and found themselves unwillingly following a strange entity in the caves, what seemed to be a puddle of mobile silvery slime. This Quicksilver Ooze(?) is capable of seemingly possessing humanoids, and turns them monstrous. After facing off with a mad dwarf, the party came across a group of mongrelmen, one of whom had been trapped by falling debris in the aftermath of the attack above. They helped the mongrelmen save their comrade, and found their way to the cavern that was home to the descendents of old crusaders, Neatholm. The leader of the mongrelmen offered the surface-dwellers a deal: take care of a tribe of mongrelmen who had allied with demoniac cultists, and they would be given passage back to the surface. They really had no choice but to accept.

The party worked their way through the caves, successfully scattering the cultists and sending them packing. Along the way, they came into possession of a gold longsword that the cultists had been attempting to 'corrupt'. In Lina's hands, the sword transformed into a starknife, and she has carried it since then. The party soon after came into contact with a stranger who seemed to have aligning interests, an elf named Shayde and his shadowy thrall Stalker. Shayde joined the party in order to return to the surface.

They found a passage back to the surface, and found the city ruined and invaders running amok. The party carefully made their way through the city, returning a couple of their civilian companions to their homes and rescuing another civilian from a mob of dretches.

Everything is so wrong, and Lina has started to wonder if this could be the end of everything she ever knew. The world feels so much bigger, and there's a fear that claws at her when she's trying to think. She clutches at her holy symbol, looks up to the stars, and prays that her goddess will grant her the strength to help others in this dark time.

Alternate rulesets: Feat Tax rules; Paladins are not required to be Lawful Good, are the same alignment as their god, and follow the code specific to their god; Unchained Rogue gets either Weapon Focus or Dodge as a bonus feat at first level in place of Weapon Finesse, Finesse training is otherwise unaffected
