GM Henry Fortuna's First Steps (Sessions 1-2) [Completed] (Inactive)

Game Master Signore di Fortuna

Fresh-faced recruits gain the opportunity to prove their worth to the Pathfinder Society.

1 to 50 of 93 << first < prev | 1 | 2 | next > last >>

I know there are a bunch of First Steps PbP's out there (it's free, can you blame a person?). Anywho, I'm looking for 4 people (6, if interest in it is crazy good). I'm thinking long-term so, after First Steps, I will be running Season 4 scenarios and those that participate in First Steps get first dibs on slots for those (there's the incentive).

Recruitment is open until July 31st @ 3pm CST. It'll give me time to dink around with RPTools' MapTools. At the moment, I just want character concepts (legal core stuff is perfect) and maybe a little blurb about why you joined the Society. Please do not pick a faction and, if you want a faction trait, keep a trait slot open until after session 3 is finished.

Never done the society thing.. how's it different?

Basically, it's a 20 point buy for stats, 150 starting gold and session stuff carries over wherever you may go or whomever you play with. I'll refer you to the guide for other details.

I could go for some PFS. Thinking monk for my class

Grand Lodge

I'd really like to be in on this, probably with an elf or halfling rogue.

When you say "core legal," does that mean just Core Rulebook + PFS Field Guide?

By "core legal", I mean anything legal in the core line of products: Core, APG, ARG, UC, UM. And the field guide of course.

I'm interested in trying this out since my home GM is moving away in a few weeks and no one else is experienced enough to try it out. I've loved the look of the Elf Spell Dancer Magus from the new race guide and would love to try it out.

I've never done a play by post before though. How does it work exactly? How much time a day would you say it involves? Thanks!!

Doomed Hero's guide is a great explanation of play-by-post.

How much time you need to devote to it is heavily dictated by how often everyone posts. For the sake of fairness, you want to give everyone a chance to post but sometimes you will end up waiting for a response. I tend to be on here once or twice a day for lengthy periods of time, unless I am out of town. I will inform everyone ahead of time if I will not be around. Simple answer: maybe a post or two a day with as much detail as you want to put in.

Oh cool, I can definitely do that! Do you want a reason for joining the society for our characters, or for us as players?

For your characters :P

I'm thinking that my character Elianna Morgethai is from Riverspire in Kyonin, and she is expected to use her natural talents to become part of Kyonin society and be like the rest of the elves of Riverspire, expanding and cultivating and seeking brightness, but while she is still young, she wants to see the world, and joining the Pathfinder society is the best way to do that other than wandering around on her own, which is lots more dangerous!!

I <3 my home GM for letting me read through his inner sea world guide!!

Scarab Sages

An olive-skilled Half-Orc stands tall before you in loose fitted, simple clothing and sandals.

Where do I come from, you say? I sometimes ask that question myself. I was found in a basket near a monastery in Lastwall. Rather than killing me outright, the monks took pity on me and brought me up in the ways of self reflection. I struggle at times with my, shall we say, less refined side, but wisdom and meditation have helped me to be at peace with what I am. Unfortunately, word of my presence spread and I had to flee my home for my life. I have become a Pathfinder to help the downtrodden, the cast-outs, and to explore the wisdom of many peoples. I offer my hand in friendship to those who do not judge me on the color of my skin.

I am relatively new to PFS. I have recently GMed the First Steps series, but I have not had a chance to play any of them yet. This character is currently built as a Zen Archer, though I may tweak him before we start play. That is, if you want me in you group. Do you know how quickly you would like to move along?

This sounds like where I should start. I'm no stranger to PbP's but I did it for an entirely different system.

What is First Steps?

Grand Lodge

First steps is a series of 3 scenarios intended to introduce new players to the Pathfinder Society. First Steps Part I

Kurth, Human (Kellid) Barbarian

Kurth left his ancestral home in the Realm of the Mammoth Lords to see the fabled wonders of civilization. First he planned to go east. Soon however he learned that what once was Sarkoris is no more. So instead he turned south, and came to the Storval Plateau. But instead of great civilizations, he only found ancient ruins.

Convinced that all civilizations in the world have perished, he made a plan to recover as many powerful artifacts from these old ruins as he could, to help rebuild civilization on Golarion.

Kurth has, by now, encountered some more civilized areas. But first impressions are hard to overcome. And also, while he is pure of heart, Kurth is not the brightest person. So Kurth still is convinced that all civilization has crumbled to dust, and that it is his destiny to help rebuild it.

He feels that the pathfinder society could help him to fulfill his destiny.

(This would be my first time doing PFS)

Grand Lodge

I would be interested. I have done quite a bit of PFS, both playing and GMing, including all three First Steps scenarios.

Character: Murgatroyd
Race: Human
Class: Summoner (Master Summoner)

Pathfinder Society: Always interested in finding out what's over the next hill, Murgatroyd joined the Society to get "free" assistance in surviving his yen to see new horizons.

I would like to jump in with a Human Life Oracle or an Elven Treesinger Druid if you have the room. I have quite a bit of PFS experience and am just looking to kick off another character before Dragoncon rolls around.

As far as the speed of the game is concerned, I'd like at least 2 posts a day. I really don't want someone who gets into this to be sitting around waiting for more than a day.

I think ill go Half elf straight rogue intead. I can do many posts per day, even on weekends

The Exchange

Pathfinder Rulebook, Starfinder Adventure Path, Starfinder Roleplaying Game Subscriber

Henry, I'd like to jump in (if you'll have me!). I've played and GM'd a fair amount of PF and PFS. I am also involved in several PBP RPG's (on other boards - yuku/obsidian portal) and would like to start migrating my Pathfinder game experience to the boards here.

I've been wanting to play a Cleric for awhile, this would be a perfect opportunity for me and to add support to the group.

Shadow Lodge

I'd like to throw Solace here in the running. He's the first PFS character I've done, and I'd like to see him move along in XP a bit :)

Grand Lodge

I have a couple of PFS characters in First Steps games now, and would love to be able to get them into Season 4 if you have room at that time.

Also, this character will only have done scenarios 2 and 3, so if you have room for scenario 1, I would love to get that last XP to reach level 2.

Is this in any way going to involve the adventure paths? I was thinking about wrapping my characters backstory around events from Burnt Offerings.

I wasn't really thinking of getting into the APs with PFS.

OK, here's my halfling rogue, Vim:

Brief background:
Raised in Absalom's alleys, Vim learned his trade out of necessity. After every cut purse, lifted piece of fruit, or picked lock, he would escape through forgotten passageways or over high rooftops. Both routes afforded him views of Absalom's past - bits of ancient architecture, frescoes, and worn statues in out of the way corners of the city always drew his eye. After finding a few old gold pieces in one of these relics, Vim's calculating mind turned to profit, and he has joined the Pathfinder Society to see what other riches Golarion's past has to offer.

i read a blurg somewhere, that clerics of asmodeus can use their torches as weapons. so i'd be a neutrally aligned torch bearer for the party :)

i have played 3 steps before but the other module i did before, i found the 2nd time around you're more eager for roleplay.

So far (in less than 16 hours), I have:

Exocrat: Vim, halfling rogue
Talor Blackstone: dwarf gunslinger (pistolero)
Solace Franzir: human gunslinger (pistolero)
DrGabe: cleric
Aroach1188: half-elf rogue
Sethious: human life oracle or elven treesinger druid
Kinevon: Murgatroyd, human summoner
The Friendly Lich: Kurth, human barbarian
Cedrick: half-orc monk (zen archer)
ElektraDawns: Elianna Morgethai, elf magus (spell dancer)
Illias: ?

This is mostly for my benefit. I have OCD and need to keep track of things. lol

Looks like you're going to have no problems recruiting a party of 6 :)

I have been thinking about PFS for a while now but never had the chance to play.

I would like to be a player but obviously you have a fair amount of applications already soooo I wouldn't mind being a second GM. I know how hard it is to choose applications so at least this way a lot more people get a chance to play.

Let me know what you think :D

Help me with the letters, what is a PFS?

Adding to the pool of candidates - Aesantiel Female Elf Monk

Aesantiel is from the deep wastes of the Rahadum desert - east of Shepherd's Rock. She embodies her people's periodic desire to reconnect with the broader world. She was recruited to the Pathfinder Society soon after walking out of the desert at Manaket.

Aesantiel's tribe of deep-desert elves has a view of time, and life, and relationships that is almost naively minimalist - all of the complexity and nuance boiled off by the unrelenting sun. Aesantiel reveres a diverse set of divine beings. Most of these entities are concerned with Soveryian, rather than Golarian. This pantheon extends to Golarian Eldest and the Elemental Lords. Aesantiel finds herself most aligned with Magdh and The Lost Prince.

@TheHairyAvenger: Aren't you supposed to be posting in our other game? ;) Depending on how many people I end up with between now and next Tuesday will determine how players many I take on. The number right now is up in the air, but more than likely will lean towards 6. I would definitely appreciate another GM because cutting people is hard.

@Chan Tho: As a cleric, you have to be within one step of your deity's alignment. Since Asmodeus is LE, you will have to be LN.

@CaptMadJaq: PFS stands for Pathfinder Society.

Still hammering out the little details, but I'd like to add Elross to the pool. Keeping it simple, Human Fighter. Backstory along the lines of losing his family as collateral damage during a fued between goblin tribes. Heard about the PFS and decided to join because he had nothing left to lose.

Again hammering out the details, will pluff more later.

Also, this would be my first attempt at PFS, so I'd really appreciate a try. *hands you a five dollar bill* j/k

Illias, the Half-elf druid after much time wondering the world trying to find his place in it. He is hell bent on furthering himself and his abilities as well as finding allies in the world that casts him out at every turn.

Illias stands at 6'6", though a vagrant, he kneels to Gozreh to keep his ties with the nature around him strong. Though the wrongs done to him incline him to do otherwise, he maintains his alignment of chaotic neutral. Long ago, Illias took a bear as a traveling companion and warrior by his side. There is much to know about this Half-elf, if you wish to know more, ask it.

A footnote, I am decent at rp, however my experience with pathfinder overall is slim but I am reading up on the dynamics more every day. I'd love to get in on your campaign.

I always end up taking more than I expect when opening games up. Normally go in with the intention of 4 people. End up with either six or two groups ;)

Well just let me know if you needed me to run an extra game when the time is ripe :P

Aleister Reed
Human Alchemist

To say Aleister Reed led a life of privilege would be an understatement. Born into one of the more influential Chelixian noble families very few of his desires ever went unindulged. While his older brothers excelled at smithing and sword training, Aleister's strengths were decidedly more scholarly; a fact that was eventually (albeit somewhat begrudgingly) accepted by his father. "After all, in certain situations a strong political mind can be just as sharp, and just as useful, as the finest of steel blades." With that thought Aleister was taught by the finest tutors money and influence could buy.

Seemingly intent on disappointing his father, Aleister's interests tended to lean more toward the sciences as opposed to government and politics, but to keep up appearances the family continued to indulge Aleister's academic pursuits by paying for his university education. In fact his father's pride was rekindled when Aleister's work in formulae and discoveries earned him an substantial amount of notoriety.

In his final year at university the Reed family fell victim to a vicious scandal and lost all of its money and influence. While a distraught Aleister was packing up his belongings and preparing to leave, he received a note stating that an anonymous benefactor paid the remainder of his tuition in full. Aleister finished out his academic career and, after being awarded his degree, he discovered a note taped to the back. it read: Report to this address within the next few days. We will be in touch.

This is how Aleister found himself standing in the foyer of the Grand Lodge and signing himself up as a Pathfinder recruit. As his training draws to a close he anxiously awaits not only his first assignment, but further instructions on how to repay his debt.

Ignis' parents are working folk. his dad a full-time torchbearer and his mom a part-time scroll caddy. between the two they've made it from hirelings to henchmen! with a bonus if there master survives yet another harrowing adventure.

but their son, an actual pathfinder!! so Ignis, with his dad's lucky torched sconce and an iou for scrolls as needed, is ready to illuminate the darkest dungeons, and safekeep not one master but a whole party's worth! he just hopes that there's more humans like him - torches just don't matter when the complement is all pointy ears & beards!

Apparently, I need to clarify some things for no one in particular:

First Steps is for 1st level characters only.

I appreciate peoples' initiative, but I would rather have people submit their characters here and not by PM. It becomes a little hard to manage if I need to check my inbox and this thread.

Also, on that note, you have to be comfortable giving me your e-mail address because that is the only way I can send you a proper Chronicle sheet.

EDIT: Of course if you have questions or concerns, please feel free to PM me. Just no submissions because it's not fair to those who have posted on this thread.

Grand Lodge

Checking in. I'll post in this thread daily until close to maintain interest. I don't have a problem giving my email address.

I can PM email as well when needed.

Do you still have room for first steps? I've only played in RL, and never with Pathfinder society. My previous Pathfinder/3.5 characters include a dwarven ranger, a Thri-Kreen monk, and a human Alchemist.

As a musician in RL, I like the idea of playing a Human Bard looking for greater pay through adventuring than he can get through gigs.

For better or for worse, I'm leaving recruitment open until next Tuesday. Though, if I somehow end up reaching 25 people interested, I may close out early. So you're alright.

James Kondolow: human bard

Sethious, will you send me a PM and tell me which character from your two choices you are considering playing?

Scarab Sages

A week is a long time in forum land. I wouldn’t recommend having it open that long, but it’s your call.

For what it’s worth, Sethious is playing a different character in a PBP I am GMing, and he has been a lot of fun to game with.

And yes, email is not a problem.

Thanks for the positive comment, couldn't do it at all though without your PBP DMing skills, haha.

Perhaps you're right, ha ha. I think I'll close out recruitment tomorrow afternoon then. It'll give folks the weekend to develop their characters.

Luthor, Cleric of Clayden Calilean , protector of the innocent, slayer of the opposed, and consumer of fermented yeast (not necessarily in that order).

Originally an orphan, Luthor was raised in the Church of Clayden Calilean by monks of the Starstone Brewers. It didn't take long before the mostly sober young man realized that his deity had found favor in him. No longer consigned to serving drunk old men, he has been tasked with joining the Pathfinders. Unlike others, who are looking for ancient artifacts, Luthor is looking for wayward children, orphans, and the occasional out of work brewer that can return back to Taldor and serve Clayden.

BACKSTORY:
Born into a simple life, Elross was raised a farmer in Varisia. He spent his days tending to the family crops and livestock, alongside his father and two younger brothers. Every other weekend since the age of 15, he was tasked with taking produce to the market. It was there, at the Sandpoint Market, that Elross met the love of his life. Her name was Lyandra, and she was the most beautiful woman that he’d ever seen. Over the next few years their relationship blossomed, and life was perfect.

When his mother fell ill, Lyandra moved to the farm to help care for his family. Everyone adored her, and it was only a matter of time before Elross felt he was ready to ask for her hand in marriage. But no ring in Sandpoint was good enough for her, she deserved better. So he volunteered to help a merchant travel to Magnimar, surely the big city would have the perfect ring. In exchange the merchant used his connections to help Elross find a jeweler. Many things about Magnimar tempted him to stay, but the thought of Lyandra kept him focused. After spending almost all the money he had brought on an engagement ring, Elross decided to return to Sandpoint on his own.

Returning to the farm, only a great scene of despair awaited him. The fields were burning, many of the surrounding families were working together to extinguish the blaze. Before he could rush to his family, to Lyandra, Elross was stopped by Sheriff Hemlock, who would not let him near the charred remains of the house. He informed Elross that after he left for Magnimar, a feud had erupted between two goblin tribes and his farmland had been the unfortunate meeting grounds. His family had been murdered, his livestock likely taken for food, and his crops set ablaze. There was nothing left. For the first time in his life, Elross felt alone and empty.

Over the next year, Elross spent his time doing two things: working to make ends meet and drinking his sorrows away. He would have died this way, had it not been for a group of heroes that saved Sandpoint from a demon and her goblin army. It was through these individuals that Elross saw something more, a better way to spend his life. Sitting in the tavern wouldn’t bring Lyandra back, nothing would. Protecting others from sharing his loss though, he could do that.

Packing up everything in his possession, including the engagement ring, Elross approached the heroes. They took him under their wing, teaching him the ins and outs of the Pathfinder Society. Now 19 years old, axe in hand, shield at arm, it is Elross’ time to stand against the evils of this world.
