William threatens to use his technological weapon with great proficiency against the demon, then tumbles back to avoid being a further target. The Outsider does indeed seem a bit concerned about William's potential use of the weapon.
Melufiuos casts Expeditious Retreat on himself, then athletically jumps off the balcony to move in front of William.
Halkale peppers the demon with cold iron arrows and it finally falls, ending the long combat.
Quiella can save her spell if she wishes.
Combat Over
Injury report: Mel has 4 damage, Valik has 3 damage, Quiella has 30 damage, Ophelia has 20 damage, William has 34 damage and 1 Wisdom damage.
"Thank you so much for saving me! I thought I was in trouble!" Tilly gushes as the demon is destroyed.
Searching the babaus, you find nothing of significant value. Even their longspears are of average quality.
Meanwhile, the portcullis finally finishes lifting, creating easy access to the balcony.
If you want to search the desk on the balcony, please make a Perception check.
If you want to examine the designs on the floor of the balcony, please make a Heal check and/or a Knowledge (arcana or planes) check.

William smirks, then goes to retrieve his musket. "As far as I am aware, this so called stun gun has no other power setting. But I do believe very few are aware of that fact. Although I will say that a well placed shot will throw someone off of their feet."
My wand is at your disposal, just tally up the total number of charges used so I can mark them off.
He carefully reloads the musket and walks over to comfort Tilly. "Do not worry young lass, I would give my life to spare a civilian the fate of a fiend's wrath... Perhaps one day I shall be forced to, but as we can see, today is not that day."
He gives her a very very careful hug, making sure his armor spikes are covered by leather straps or rolled back up his sleeves. "So brave young lass, were these the thin men that you spoke of before?"

GM Harker |

As I'm sure their will be no issues, feel free to go ahead and roll your healing for yourselves if you own a healing wand. I believe we are safe in assuming that either Ophelia or Quiella will use it on you.
Also, if everyone could include at least some description of what they are doing when making skills checks, it would make reading the thread more enjoyable overall for everyone.
Although happy to be rescued, Tilly silently refuses to be embraced by William, backing away at the offer of a hug from a guy in spiked armor. "Yup, those were the thin men! Thank you for, um, you know, taking care of them. Pa, Mother, and Tarcey gotta be nearby now, let's go find 'em!"
Melufiuos searches the desk and finds nothing of interest. He also investigates the red circles on the ground and doesn't deduce anything special about them in an arcane sense. You can make a Planes check as well, Mel.
Valik searches the desk with Halkale's assistance and discovers a secret compartment containing a journal that appears to belong to Tancred Desimire. Leafing through the book, you find three entries of particular interest.
Here is a link to the journal entries.
There's still some skill checks to made in this area, and some of you probably still want to heal up before moving onwards.

![]() |

William settles for patting Tilly softly on the head. "Yes... we shall go and find your family, but first we must make sure that when we find them, should there be more of those thin men that we will not join your family among the missing."
He looks over at Valik, thumbing through the recovered journal and walks over to take a peek.
"You have recovered more mission intelligence... Wonderful! Let us see what is contained within..."
As he reads through the entries his face turns to one of concern... then one of discomfort, then one of anger... then pure fury. He slowly utters the name, syllable by syllable. "Tan...cred... Des... i... mire..."
He stands to full height, baring his armor spikes once again. "I shall PERSONALLY tear that man LIMB from LIMB if given the opportunity! That b&$#$ Zarta has much to atone for, messing with dangerous trinkets and rituals, but even SHE does not deserve the treatment this man has shown her. There will be no mercy for those who subject Golarion to hellspawn. Redemption can be found for those like Zarta Dralneen, but only death for this &$%-"
He stops for a moment, then takes the enchanted earplugs out and places them on Tilly's head before continuing.
"@ @#^@-ing @#&*# of a !@%& and his @&!@# !@*!@ of *!(#%...."
~~30 seconds later~~
"...%@*& summoning !$* of @!*#!"
This... torrent seems to continue for a bit before he regains his composure and removes the earplugs. "Let's kick some fiendish @^~!" He cracks his knuckles and then gets to work.

As a matter of bookkeeping, Halkale can use the CLW wand for folks too, since he has the spell in his "spellbook".
Okay so..some of us have been on missions that may intersect this story some. Diary specifically mentions Zarta in prison, but I vaguely remember something we might have done, or maybe we just gathered the info on her being in prison. Not sure how much of that we share in the actual game or if even this amount spoils people. I'd like to respond but I am stuck not sure what we can say.

GM Harker |

I believe William is aware of these scenarios already from an OOC perspective, so it's okay to talk about them IC. The first entry appears to be related to The Disappeared, while the second is related to The Blakros Matrimony. The second and third entries I believe are also related to the Bonekeep scenarios, which are all out of the scope of PbP.

I have played in the Disappeared and the Blakros Matrimony, and fled from Bonekeep 1 screaming like a madman. There is also at least one more scenario referenced there that I have played in pertaining to Nerosyan. None of which were on this character. Oddly enough, I played in all of those except for the Blakros Matrimony on the same character... Starting to wish I brought him along instead.
I think Ophelia is probably the only one left who can make heads or tails of that 'fancy magic stuff,' so William will work on making sure we aren't at risk of imminent death.
Still seething, William looks at his comrades attempting to decipher the glyphs upstairs. He shrugs, magic not being in his area of expertise, and moves towards the hallway leading out. "If you can make sense of those glyphs let me know. I shall make sure no more horrors are gathering around the corner."

GM Harker |

William and Quiella both heal themselves, with the former avowing vengeance against Tancred Desimire. William also takes a closer look at junction of hallways, but finds nothing of interest.
Ophelia takes a closer look at the symbols on the floor and deduces the following. The etchings are teleportation portals, with a reddish-brown substance coating the etchings. With her knowledge of the healing arts, Ophelia knows the substance is dried blood. Furthermore, the Cleric recalls that one method of retuning a portal is to taint it with blood; through this method, Tancred Desimire re-attuned Ostergarde’s formerly infernal portals to reach the Abyss.

Next up is a big encounter, so I'll get that up once I have more time. That might not be until Sunday. Feel free to finish healing and role-play until then.

![]() |

"It's... what? Grrr....."
William shakes his head and looks for anything to try to clean the blood up with. "Not good... Hmmm... Ophelia. Would you mind if I were to borrow you morningstar? I feel unable to do my part and it appears to be a result of my lack of preparedness."

![]() |

"If you'd p-p-prefer, I have this g-g-greatsword I don't use m-m-much, you can b-b-borrow." Halkale says as he draws the greatsword.
Just cold iron, not magical, all my upgrades go into my bow.

![]() |

"Hmmm... yes perhaps. Although I'm rather... unskilled with such weapons."
William uses weapon finesse. Morningstar is one handed piercing so would be pretty ideal. Greatsword I can use in a pinch but would be at a rather awful attack bonus.

![]() |

Yeah, the greatsword is no good for me either (again with the weapon finesse.)
Mel pulls out his wand of healing and is about to hand it to the nearest person able to use it and then pauses, head tilting in thought. Abruptly, he refocuses and walks over to Ophelia. The expression on his face shifting several times between reverence, mischief, and thought. "Ophelia? He kind of cringes, "you may think me mad, but hear me out. There is but one charge left in my wand of cure light wounds. It has seen me though my early years and I will miss it." The next few sentences come out in a rush, "I know it is kind of silly, but I feel like it is friend on his deathbed. And you are a priestess of a god of death. And so.." he takes a breath to steady himself, "would you do me the honor of using its last charge on me?" He holds his hands up, the wand laid reverently across his open palms and waits.
Later, he grabs the rest of his scrolls from his servant. "Not gonna have that happen again," he says as he shakes the scroll of spider climb.

![]() |

LOL!
Don't worry. It will be a while before I buy a wand like that... Good fire protection is expensive.. and I'd need lots of it for using the fireballs in close combat!

![]() |

No worries, just figured I'd offer if it was useful. I only carry it for now, once I get point blank master and can fire in melee without provoking, there should be no need, except for maybe underwater.
Also remember that Halkale can use the wands on you too. Just to speed up the wanding. Not suggesting he take Ophelia's place in this. I believe I have 47 charges on my wand due to not be a silly meat shield...hehe

![]() |

I will happy if we don't run into any more demons, but I suppose that is wishful thinking. Are you okay Tilly? his eyes scanning all around for threats. He doesn't trust this place much seeing as the portals are now, in theory, active.

GM Harker |

If you haven't gotten all your healing done, feel free to do it retroactively in your next post. I'll leave it up to Ophelia on whether she'll give up her cold iron weapon, but if she is willing we can say she does this retroactively as well.
Progressing down the hallway, Tilly makes sure to stay close to William, her expression eager perhaps to see her family.
After passing some rubble filled passages to the south, the group falls the hallway as it turns to the north to a pair of double doors and then opens them. Inside a narrow wooden plank spans a twenty-foot-deep pit, within which sits an unsettling scene. Several groups of corpses have been arranged here, mimicking poses of family merriment. There are half a dozen such macabre scenes set up throughout the pit, including a middle-aged couple engaged in a romantic meal, a family of four nestled cozily in a bed, a dancing couple, and six men who appear to be brothers playing a dice game around a crowded table. Interspersed between the sinister dioramas are seemingly random objects, like a jar of eyeballs, a cage full of snow-white doves, and a large pile of ragged, filthy blankets.
As your brains attempt to process these horrific sights, two forms begin to stir in the dirty blankets and soon emerge two emaciated, hairless canines that fly up into the air, their presence evoking a menacing, cruel air.
The dogs are up 20 feet in the pit, which puts them on the same level as the PC's. It's Knowledge (planes) to identify these creatures.

GM Harker |

Valik and Melufiuos identify these flying dogs as Yeth Hounds. These evil, extraplanar outsiders are best fought with silver weapons, can cause panic with their howls, and invoke a weaker fear with their bites. Everyone has seen that they can fly well without the need for wings.
Valik, you're up in initiative. I'll do a full update once you have gone.

Valik, the Yeth Hounds aren't close enough yet to engage in melee combat, so I'll assume you're readying an attack if one gets close enough.
With a loud bang, William fires his musket at the white yeth hound and a bullet easily hits the creature. It does not seem to injury it very much, however, as William soon learns that silver weapons are most effective against them.
Afterwards, Valik tells the group what he knows about the creatures, then steps and prepares to attack one if it gets close.
Valik quickly gets the chance to strike as the white yeth hound closes the distance, but the monk misses with his nunchaku. The flying canine responds by attempting a bite that also misses.

The black yeth hound then flies 5 feet into the group and tries to bite William despite being intimidated by him. Apparently the scare tactic works as the hound misses.
