You move through the tunnel and enter a large cave. Hundreds of remains float in this large bowl of water, which churns with bones, scraps of flesh, and the carcasses of strange, almost alien fish. Just visible through the roiling stew are humanoid bodies floating in the water, wan corpses drifting near the bottom of this cauldron like sleeping guardians.

Immediately you notice Sandara and Jake. They are hanging from the ceiling by ropes tied to their torso's. Sandara seems to be in a descent shape, but Jake's legs are almost completely gone! A big grindylow-like monster is nibbling on his legs! At the back of the room you notice another grindylow. The ropes can be lowered or raised from the wall next to her.

You are able to stand in the tunnel where you are, but it seems the actual cave is deeper.

Xasay holds his stencils at just the right angle over the water, and from out of nowhere, a dark shape coalesces under the water and dives for Jake!

Conjuring a shadow celestial dolphin as close as I can to Jake to rescue him! Do whatever it is you need to do to indicate its underwater.

It puts its nose under the bound sailor and pushes him up to the surface. Underneath the water you see two of the bobbing corpses, which are chained to something underwater, make their way to Sandara! They both bite your friend and her body goes limp...

Just seconds later the smaller grindlylow finishes waving her wand and an octopus appears just next to Vagantem! It tries to bite Vagantem and capture him in its tentacles but it fails. It then emits a black cloud of ink underwater.

Meanwhile the smaller grindylow forces the seaweed to grow to gigantic size. The seaweed moves over you, trying to find some way to hold you where you are! Emmet and Scratcher manage to free themselves for the moment, the others are not so lucky! The grindylow then dives underwater.

Fiend series | Shackles

Emmet fires his pistol at the underwater grindylow. The bullet is fired just past the rocky outcrop into the water and slows down considerably. But not enough to inflict a nasty wound on the grindylow!

Scratcher dives under the black ink and out of the weeds. He hits one of the undead! Up close the resemblance to the undead women in the swamp (that you met earlier) is obvious.

Jake is gasping for breath, being thankful for the summoned dolphin. Sandara is underwater and does not seem to react to the nasty undead next to her...

Still stymied, that does not prevent him from helping to save Jake with a remarkable new trick: He softly but steadily sings a single note, until suddenly, beneath Jake's ravaged legs, that note accretes in strong, wood-like physical form, forming an impromptu lifesaver for the poor man.

I cast Solid note, one of the coolest spells out there! It has a Strength of 12, just like the dolphin, so it should be able to hold Jake. It does require my concentration, so if Tori could help Jake ashore, that would be useful. I want to start turning my puppets toward the offensive.

Actually, since you made the saves for us and wouldn't necessarily have known about this, can we retcon enough to say that I used Shadow Speaker to get a +2 insight bonus to my initial Reflex save? It's a free action, and it would have made the difference.

Xasay: yes of course you can retcon the free action to get free from the seaweed. Remember that you have to get out of the entangled area or it is another save at the end of your turn. If you want you can adjust your move action.

Tori shoots another arrow at the grindylow. Despite the buffer of water between the shooter and the target it hits.

Underwater the two undead turn their attention to Scratcher. Only one attack hits when one of the lacedons bites in Scratcher's outstretched arm.

The grindylow retrieves a potion sponge and eats it.

Vagantem slashes wildly into the dark inky water where he suspects that the octopus is hiding. His blade does not connect.

Feeling like the little kid at the back of a crowded parade route, Emmett gives up on being useful in combat. Instead, he simply tries to demoralize the grindylow.
