Vagantem opens the door to the shack.

Inside is a single chamber, crowded with a large amount of furniture looted from a wreck, including a comfortable bed, a small writing desk, cooking gear, and several barrels of rotting food. The stench of rot is overpowering and flies swarm within the room, particularly around the hooded corpse hanging from a chain off a beam in the middle of the room. A stool lies on the floor nearby where it was kicked.

"Well... it looks like someone didn't want to stay here. I wonder if they died before or after the undead..."

Vagantem opens doors and widows to allow the flies to escape as well as providing fresh air and light.

"Squid goblins being cute? Surely you jest!" she says, going to take a turn at the telescope again - while giving the room a chance to air.

Once the immediate bugs are dealt with she starts to inspect the room, looking for a diary or anything that might give the account of what happened here.

Scratcher and Vagantem enter the lodge together, Scratcher moves towards the corpse while Vagantem opens the window as wide as possible. Suddenly the corpse starts moving! It pushes its legs against Scratcher, giving it just enough leverage to escape the noose! Up close the stench is even more horrible Vagantem and Scratcher, fortitude save please

The flies swarm around Vagantem and the Scratcher and land on them. The dirty vermin tries to crawl into ears, nostrils, mouths and eyes!

Tori's first arrow slams into the putrid flesh of the corpse while the second arrow misses. Emmet hurls a flask into the room and although it is not a clean hit manages to hit some flies.

Both Vagantem and the Scratcher do not seem to be bothered by the smell of the corpse.

Xasay knows that the corpse is a ghast, a more powerful variant of the ghouls you met earlier. It can paralyze with bites and claws and carries a nasty disease. Xasay's flask goes wide, but still splashes some flies and also the ghast and his companions!

Emmet throws his flask right on between the swarming flies while Tori's arrow pins the ghast to the wooden side of the cabin, killing it!

Vagantem steps back as she tries frantically to stem the bleeding that is happening all over her.

But she has always been better at making wounds than fixing them. She quickly falls unconscious.

Xasay heroically runs through the fly swarm to rescue the Scratcher while Vagantem tries to heal her wounds.

Tori ignores the bleeding and hurls a flask at the swarm, but is not as effective as she wants to be, having her flask fall just outside of the biggest concentration of flies. Emmet's aim is better; he hits the swarm full on! In a big fiery burst most of the flies burn to death, the remaining flies quickly fly into the jungle, seeking easier prey!

Fire damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5 Swarm exactly at 0 hp....

Out of combat, I assume Xasay stems the bleeding on Tori and Vagantem quickly enough. Time to heal!
