With the the practiced efficiency of seasoned veterans, you dispatch the remaining combatants. The air is thick with the coppery scent of the gallons of spilled giant's blood which now coats the walls like some sort of macabre Jackson Pollock painting.

The enemies defeated, the party turns its attention to the all too familiar task of despoiling the dead and looting the immediate area.

Shard of wrath. a Small mithral dagger, a Medium +1 handaxe, a massive silver tankard etched with rams attacking stirges worth 300 gp, an iron bottle containing an elixir of love, a mummified horse's head with a silver tooth worth 25 gp, a mummified dwarf's finger that still wears a ring of minor spell storing (currently containing web and shocking grasp), a trio of exceptionally high quality furs worth 400 gp each, an average-locked iron box welded to a long chain (break DC 28) that contains three bags of 1,000 sp and a bag of 1,002 gp, a stout iron bound chest with a rod of enemy detection thrust through the latch where the lock once was, containing seven gold-plated dwarf skulls worth 200 gp each, a huge jug with a silver handle worth 200 gp, a cider keg brimming with copper coins (4,319 cp in all), a +3 arrow of ooze slaying, and a small cork box containing a rolled-up scroll of heal tucked into a ring of protection +4 that simply doesn't work for evil creatures.

Detaching the shard from the chieftains morningstar takes a bit of effort, but you manage to break it free and combine it with the Deep Red Sphere ioun stone (Which i can't remember if I mentioned you getting from the VC) to inactivate its curse.

As you've done more than once, you focus your will upon the the shard of wrath feeling for the location of the final fragment of the Sihedron. This time though, you receive no vision of a place, just a feeling that the last shard is some immense distance away and a distinct pull, calling you downwards. Wherever the final fragment lies, the magic of the artifact suggests clues may reside deeper within the Guiltspur itself.

Shard of wrath:

DESCRIPTION

The Shard of Wrath is made of sparkling silver siccatite that feels hot one day, but cold the next. As long as the Shard of Wrath is carried, its owner can use fireball as a spell-like ability once per day, gains a +2 insight bonus on saves versus evocation spells, and gains a +2 insight bonus on all weapon damage rolls.

Curse: The owner becomes addicted to violence, and is sickened whenever she hasn’t brought a living creature to –1 hit points or fewer within the last hour. Once the owner attacks a creature, she must make a DC 20 Will save if she wants to cease attacking; otherwise, she does what she can to kill the creature.

"Hey, this is pretty neat!"

He looks into it before taking off a gauntlet and running a finger around the inside.

"Looks like minimal giant slobber, too."

Hanging it from his belt, he plucks the ring from Spasi who's feverishly identifying all the magic before tossing it to Rhesus.

"This'll help you get hurt less, not that I don't mind sharing all these bruises and scrapes."

Clem 105, Rhesus 119, Koriah 79... so a lot of folks need 50+ HP. Clem will channel twice to try to tackle that.

Bibic is quite pleased with the way things went, particularly Koriah's ability to hold the line and prevent a collapse. Without a scratch on him, he praises her as is her due. "Well done keeping them giants off us. You did an exceptional job."

He reaches down for the belt of giant strength +4, looks to the others for approval, and if so picks it off the pile along with the +3 arrow of ooze slaying. He gives the belt to Koriah and places the arrow in his quiver.

I assume the belt won't help Rhesus, as I expect he's got that much or more by now, but if it will, please take it and Koriah will wait. :)

He nods thanks at Clements healing, though he was untouched thanks to his cohort and Spasi's spells.

If no one wants the ring of spell storing, Spasi will take it for now, but feel free to add to the ‘sell’ list as I don’t think he’ll use it that often. Spasi doesn’t need the shard of wrath and is happy to offer it to Koriah(?) if she is wayfoundered.

Spasi finishes looking at the loots and finding little to his liking.

”Now that was a heck of a fight, wasn’t it? Them giants just kept coming, didn’t they?” Spasi notes the literal tons of bloodied and scorched giant flesh laying around. ”Boy, there were a lot of them.”

Spasi will wait for others to collect all the heavy things, and then be ready to scout around further.

”Is there any reason to keep searching around here? Might be some more loot, but this is already quite a haul.”

Bibic suggests, "But if not, it would make Koriah even more effective with all those attacks." He nods to her out of respect

"Let's check the side passages just to be thorough, but yeah, we're done here for now, though it seems we must find a way to go deeper for the next shard. Finding the passage down would be helpful at least, but we don't have to follow it now I suppose, though I have fight left in me."

Clement lands next to Spasi and puts a hand on his shoulder, clearly getting more comfortable with his angelic self.

He grins.

"Giants are all mostly evil right? Maybe we should just keep figuring out where giants hang out, teleport in and wham-bam, collect magic like this to redistribute to oursel... our, well the Society?"

Clement scratches his temple.

"Although I guess Sheila has a knack for sending us where there's a lot of treasure already."

He then gestures towards the latest shard.

"Can't we use that to find the next one? Maybe we don't need to deal with that dragon after all, but aren't they supposed to have a lot of treasure too?"


@Bibic: Had to dig that up. The caster level of the shard spell effects is that of the wielder (effectively HD).

A ramps leaves the throne area to the west into a long winding tunnel at the end of which ends in another cave. A massive iron door sites in the caves western wall, guarded by two nervous looking fire giants.
