Spasi Gaten |

Spasi delays, trying to find the source of the attack.
1d20 + 26 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 26 + 2 = 29 Perception

GM Fanguar |

From my understanding, Spasi, Clem and Rhesus are in the main throne room and Bibic is the only one in the dining room. Spasi would have to move to see anything.
@Bibic: You don't see anything. You know that the blast came from above you, and recall that Spasi mentioned earlier that the ceiling was radiating a illusion aura.

Spasi Gaten |

Spasi moves so he can see, trying to stay well away of whatever is about to eat Clem, but maybe close enough to help.
He will relate what he sees to Rhese and Bibic when he knows what is what.

Spasi Gaten |

"Bibic? Are you okay?" Spasi asks, not quite worried yet. "Rhese? RHESE!? Come over here and break this wall down? I think something is trying to grill Bibic like those flumph chops you like so much."
Take total defense.

GM Fanguar |

Three more beams lance down through the ceiling towards Bibic.

Spasi Gaten |

Well, Clem, can we do anything about that? Spasi can DDoor you there if you want, but yeah.
Spasi watches as BBQc is burnt severely. "Uh, Clem?"

Rhesus Ghawn |

Had to wait until after the baddies but I don't think I can do anything to save Bibic.
Rhesus will hammer on the magic barrier once he gets there.
Not sure how far away I am or if I'll be able to get an attack this round.

Spasi Gaten |

Spasi waits to see if Clem can restore Bibic, and, if so, will teleport the team into position.
Where are you, Clem?

Clement Twice-Born |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |

Bibic has Fire Resistance (30), the longest duration application in the group, no less - I imagine he is healthier as a result? At 80/86HP?
Hearing a yelp from the room that Bibic still hasn't yet returned from and then the elf bursting into his usual dramatic overacting, Clement becomes more alert and observes as Rhesus either does some impressive mimicry or crashes into some sort of invisible wall.
"What's going on??"
Never quite be at ease in an ancient Runelord fortress, Clement takes flight and heads towards Bibic, seeing if the elf poked himself on a fork or was facing something more dire.
Is there a top to the invisible wall? Clement will check where it meets the ceiling. Otherwise if Spasi is presenting an option to Dimension Door/Teleport past for faster relief of our elf, Clement will join in that. There is always Breath of Life (touch) if needed.

Bibic |

lol - I had no idea I had resist fire 30. If so, then yes, I took 12hp of damage and am at 74 and whining fitfully as Clement describes!
As I'm not dead on my initiative, I'll try a dispel magic on the illusory ceiling and will begin my Bardic performance.
Dispel Magic: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (10) + 16 = 26

Spasi Gaten |

"Ah, let's just get in there. No telling what trouble Bibic has found with out us," Spasi will cast DDoor and put the party into the room, with others closer to Bibic, and keeping him a bit further back.

GM Fanguar |

@Clem: There's no top that you can feel
Spasi has no issue transporting the other members of the party into the room.
Bibic counteracts the spell, and the illusory ceiling dissipates, revealing a similarly styled but higher ceiling behind it. Behind it are three strange creatures surrounded by a nimbuses of near-blinding light. Each looks something like an emaciated child with clawed hands. (Know Planes DC27: They shining children, a type of evil outsider)
Removal of the illusion also reveals a trio of ornate, glowing sigils marked on the ceiling. @Bibic: make 3 DC25 will saves, or be driven insane. (Functions as a permanent confusion effect)
Anyone who looks up must make the same saves.
Seeing the Bibic shrug off the effects of their fires, two the creatures pepper the party with greater dispel magic bursts, while the third launches a beam of hellfire at Spasi

Rhesus isn't sure how to attack them if he can't look up at them.
"Can we lure them down?"
He'll fly up while looking down, hoping to get to the level where he can attack the creatures without looking up to do so.

The room at the end of the hall appears to be a shrine dedicated to some long forgotten goddess. Strange glyphs crawl like living things across the walls and obsidian pews float lazily in a haphazard arrangement before an unusual statue of a six-winged, mouthless woman. With Detect Magic, he will begin to identify the auras in the room.
1d20 + 30 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 30 + 2 = 50 Spellcraft
1d20 + 30 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 30 + 2 = 51 Spellcraft
1d20 + 30 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 30 + 2 = 36 Spellcraft

Clement maintains a safe distance from Spasi as he scans the room and the danger-cloak, prepared to swoop in and counter whatever magicks may work their way into the Taldan's mind.
He once again suggests, "we could of course just close this door, again.. not sure this cloak would pursue us?"

@Spasi: the robe is a cursed Robe of powerlessness and there is a phylactery of positive channeling on one of the pedestals. There is also a magical suggestion effect in the room (trap with a visual trigger).
DM's Dice: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (15) + 13 = 28
With Spasi drawing your attention to the robe, you can't help but think how comfortable and stylish it looks and wonder how it might feel to slip it on. You feel a strange desire to take it an put it on, but manage to push the thought from your head. You definitely recognize the impulse as being a magical compulsion.

”That’s a pretty sweet phylactery, but the robe is bullshit. Ignore that,” Spasi grabs the good stuff in case Clem wants, and leaves and shuts the door from the robe of badness.
”Let’s move on. Where to next?” Spasi chose where to go last time.

Clement gives the room behind the throne a very careful last glance before acquiescing to Bibic's suggestion to proceed to another door.
"I would have thought the room behind the throne would've had something better in it.. treasure or the Runelord hiding or something."
Perception: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (3) + 22 = 25
With nothing further to do, Clement nudges Rhesus and circles around behind the warrior as the big Shoanti opens the next door.
A7 I believe.

Pushing open the door reveals a crystal dais supports an intricate chair cast from black metal in a delicate web-like pattern. Anyone with ranks of appraise recognizes that it is made of adamantine and is incredibly valuable.
Sets of tiny glyphs, each set glowing in a different color, crawl over the ceiling, floors, and walls of the room, while a slowly spinning rune-carved disk floats in the air before the chair.
