The only thing Boreal might be able to do in starship combat is captain. And then only the intimidating bit.

What we are missing so far seems to be a party face as we have no solarian and no envoy with high charisma stats. I might be wrong, and someone put a rank in diplomacy and such. But it wouldn't hurt to be able to add that to the crew.

I have just realized that Str literally does combat and athletics now. That is all.
I am a sad giant lizard man

As the alias implies, I wouldn't mind making a Solarion :3

Was thinking Priest of Talavet for Theme, and then Korasha Lashunta or Kasatha for race.

RYSKY!!1! :p
We are in need of a face, so someone with decent Cha would be beneficial, like a solarion.

J4RH34D!!!! :3

and *nods*

That would however kind of force you into the captain role on the ship, as I don't believe anyone else is really making any moves to be face

Shit

:3

It could also be fun to say "sod it" to the stereotypes and run a democratic ship without a captain :P

1 person marked this as a favorite.

That's a thing, yes.

"Hmm, should we return fire?"

*shakes Magic-8 Ball*

I am so tempted to make a magic 8 ball alias O.o

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Magic 8 Ball says "You may rely on it."

lol, I think there already is one.

What I get for not refreshing the page before I post XD

I really was amazed there wasn't one

Could have sworn there was...

Welcome Rysky!
From the offered races I'd prefer the Kasatha because we already have a Lashunta. As I aim for diversity.

Would you give some example of Rysky acting/talking to give us an idea about her character?

About captain:

SCRB wrote:

Wothar (Gunner): But our missile launcher is on a turret, so it can fire in any arc! Okay, let’s make this dead thing even deader!

Elidu (Captain): One second, let me give you some inspiring words with the encourage action. Ahem. “Let’s make this dead thing even deader!”

Wothar (Gunner): Truly inspiring, captain.

The question is not so much if you need a captain, but if you find someone willing to fill THAT role :P

Hey there,

I was torn about whether or not to apply to this one but I'm throwing in Dr. Imani, lashunta envoy, as a contender.

The backstory isn't a good fit ATM, so I'll edit it down the road, but I do feel it is a good sample of my writing style.

Not married to the character either, but he's what I had available at short notice. I could whip up a different one before the weekend if there was a race/class role you'd rather see filled.

Just because the core rulebook has a dunce for a captain doesn't mean we need one.

Hi Dr. Imani.
I guess that would be an outlaw theme wise?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The rule book is clear about the need for a captain: There is none.

Foxy Quickpaw wrote:

Another interesting thing to clarify would be roles in ship combat.

Captain, Engineer, Pilot, Gunner, Science Officer

From what I have seen in the character sheets so far I'd guess
Allison - Pilot

But that is just for you to tell your interest. If you start in game to brawl about who gets to steer the ship, or do a rotating plan who has to man the unloved position of science officer is up to you.

If selected, my lashunta would welcome the science officer role. It will be fun when he realizes that he needs to know 'computers' to fill that role. But he'll grow into it. :)

He could also be a party face with +5 diplomacy.

Could be! Wouldn't change much for vital stats.

Icon theme originally came from the pbp campaign I originally drafted him for - it was going to be Stargate-y, so the criminal contacts weren't going to be a factor. Included them in the backstory to underline that this guy is an unscruplous sleaze, but character development was going to focus on his rise to fame in whatever civilization he landed in.

I could rewrite backstory so that he's more icon, less outlaw - or make him even more mild with a scholar theme. Character core is solid, theme is pretty fluid. :)

My burgeoning human technomancer/knowitall would be the Science officer. Obviously my superior intellect predisposes me for such things. It's amazing you people are even allowed to touch such sophisticated advanced algorithmic processors. I mean, wow. Are you REALLY gonna enter THAT command prompt, I mean. I guess that works but...can we say "Inefficient use of binary hexadecimal architecture". Am I right?

Also,

Yeaah, Wraith. If you are going to use advanced curvature dynamics to steer the vessel. Let's make sure that our coefficient ratio of flux capacitance is like point oh five seven. This thing about you and Drift steering at point oh five three...Can we say "Inefficient use of Drift propulsion". Am I right?

Also...Rysky!!!!!!

Liberty's Edge

Hi GM Foxy, I recently joined a pbp for this AP, but it seems to have died after about twenty posts - the GM hasn't posted in almost two weeks with no warning.

I'd be very interested in joining another game, especially quite a fast paced one with known dedicated posters, but I am unlikely to have a chance to create a new character before the weekend, as the next few days I have a lot on work-wise.

If you would consider an android mechanic (no drone, but I could change this) or a Shirren soldier (characters that I already have made) I would be very pleased to join! If these characters don't suit what you are looking for (considering that some of these races / roles have been taken already) I more than understand.

Wayfinders

For reference, here is the Shirren - mercenary theme, probably looking at gunner role.

"Zzzkt, greeting fellow sentients!"

And here is the Android - also mercenary role (hmmm, not very diverse am I? I could mix things up I guess ...) and probably going for an engineering or science officer role on ship.

"Hello ... if I'd known how many were applying for this job before I turned up, I probably wouldn't have ..."

"The way you say sentients makes it seem like you aren't one..."
Insert "How do you do fellow kids" meme here

Wayfinders

"Oh, I am well out of my larval stage and therefore fully sentient. Kzzbt."

Mr. Pink?! When did you go back to school?? =p

Wraith stands doe-eyed, deeply gazing at the science officer as his kissing-place makes word noises. "Uh-huh,"she stammes, resting a hand on his arm. "And could we work on our coeffiecient ratio later tongight? In my bunk?"
She blinks twice.

Niles, ah, um, the GM said no more humans. Are you sure you wanna go with human?

Update:
So far we have:
Boreal Typhon - A vesk soldier bountyhunter
Allison "Wraith" WhiteAngel - A human operative ace pilot
Soryn - A lashunta mystic xenodruid outlaw
Niles' - Human Technomancer

What we might get:
Dr. Imani - Lashunta Envoy
Rysky - a Kasatha Solarian
Fighting Chicken - Ysoki Mechanic
X'Tack - a shirren soldier
Flek - a android mechanic

Niles, please stat out your Technomancer

Fighting Chicken are you still around?

X'Tack, I'd like to have a shirren in the crew, but the soldier is already occupied by a vesk. I know Solder is a highly flexible class, but before allowing another solder onboard I would want to see some details.

Liberty's Edge

Actually, if Niles went human, I'd be more free to go Lashunta or Ysoki.

We already got a butt-ton of Lash and no Ysokis. (I keep wanting to call them Ewoks. It just seems natural. =)

Or, I guess, Android? If we got that Envoy I could totes do android.

I guess I'll just stay fresh an' ready to see what we have and what flavors the GM would like to see on her PC sundae.

Man, now I want ice cream.

Wayfinders

I took the Hit and Run style for X'Tack at first level, the idea being that he could mix it up in melee or at range, though he may tend to stick to short arms more than long arms for ranged attacks - not sure in the long term.

In terms of starship role, he could make an adequate gunner or pilot, though in both cases he would be content to act as 'backup' if a better candidate were available.

I intend to play X'Tack as a friendly but somewhat naïve fellow, who has a tendency to be somewhat blunt and insensitive without meaning to. He wants to see the (Pact) world(s) and protect innocents ... although he would like to be paid to do so, after all, a shirren's gotta eat! He loves collecting weapons and loves having a choice of multiple weapons to use, unfortunately he had to sell most of his weapon collection in order to fund his trip to Absolom Station.

I have a full (though perhaps not fantastically formatted) profile set up within this alias.

Thinking on it, I actually do have a ysoki envoy (outlaw theme) fully statted on paper that I could transfer if that's going to be a better fit for the party - still keeping a roguish brand of face to the party. I'll submit that at some point this afternoon/evening as well, should that be a character build the GM wants to see.

@Wraith You could go Android no problem (mechanically anyways). I mean, I guess I could, but then I'd probably go all Data from TNG in my roleplay. Your insistence on the point oh five three coefficient is very illogical

@Foxy Can do. I'll get on it asap.

Edit: @Wraith Changing me to an android might make some sense...He "wouldn't get" Wraith's continual hitting on him

Your bunk? That is a very inopportune place to discuss Drift mechanics and astroprojective dynamics.

Still here! Here's my background for Lolo, ysoki scholar mechanic, and her drone, T-140. I'd already done a first draft of her background when I checked in and saw you're looking for a line or two and a bit about personality. This is a bit longer, but it isn't a novel. Thanks for the consideration!

background:
=========
Now
=========

Lolo gnawed at her wrist, her brow furrowed, nose twitching. Four long years’ labor, about to go to someone else with the touch of a button. Four exhausting, exhilarating years, cobbling together parts from scrap in Absalom Station’s refuse pits, cleaning and rewiring and welding and going over schematics, again and again and again, in her uncle Twitch’s garage, until Tenacity was spaceworthy. Or at least, near-space worthy - there were even limits to Ysoki ingenuity, and this low-range orbiter would never be interplanetary without an infusion of cash. But that didn’t matter, at the moment. It was four years of failure and victory, Lolo’s little near-spacecraft the perfect embodiment of the Ysoki spirit, to the ratling’s suddenly tearful eyes, at least, about to be abandoned. And the day had started so well, too. Gnawing again at her wrist, Lolo cursed and punched the eject button, and Tenacity’s escape pod hurtled towards the homing beacon Lolo had stashed in Pipetown’s midden heap…

==========
Earlier that day
==========

Lolo’s nose twitched, the ratlings voice high and excited as she talked to T-140. ”A real find today! Will be able to upgrade Tenacity’s thrusters, maybe even get some decent sensors put in our baby!”

Lolo looked to her drone as she twisted on her helmet, attacked the flexcord. Her other finest creation, T-140 was her salvage partner, hells, even her friend, though the little drone wouldn’t admit it. ”Ready?” Lolo asked, popping the lid on Tenacity’s cockpit.

”Of course, Lolo.” The drone said, it’s air thrusters already maneuvering the drone into space. ”I was made ready.”

------------

Scrappers loved the Armada, that swarm of undocked ships, resident and transient, that circled just on the near-space of Absalom Station. There was wealth out here, and where there was wealth, there was refuse, lingering at the edges of the Armada. And today, Lolo and T-140 and Tenacity just happened to run into a largely intact yet scuttled 6D15 yacht - largely used by smugglers - just twisting slowly about 5 clicks out of the Armada. They’d have to be quick - someone would be coming soon for the yacht.

A quick survey found the ship to be indeed empty, the life boat launched, the ship quickly stripped, no doubt whatever it was illegally carrying gone too. That didn’t matter, though. Lolo didn’t want any part of drug smuggling, or arms smuggling, or any other smuggling. Not even iridescent iguanas. Grabbing the ship’s com unit, Lolo gave it a quick yank smiling as it popped free. That alone was a thousand credits, give or t--

”Approaching! Sentients approaching!” T-140 buzzed the ysoki’s head, bringing Lolo out of her musing. Owners. Balls. Screwing her helmet back on, Lolo punched the airlock, and pushed herself out of the yacht, reeling herself back to Tenacity, T-140 pushing itself through space beside her with well-timed busts of air.

It was a quick calculation. The owners were smugglers, likely gang members. They’d kill her. But, if she left her ship, they’d likely pause to see what was in it. Four years’ work, about to be abandoned…

=========
Now
=========

The escape pod thudded into the midden heap. Popping the lid, and clutching the 6D15’s comm system - 1000 credits, all Lolo had to her name - the ysoki climbed out, taking note of T-140, smashed to bits against the escape pod’s wall on impact. No matter, he’d be rebuilt. Lolo had already shaken off the disappointment at abandoning Tenacity. There had to be a quicker way to wealth. Maybe the Starfinder Society was hiring?

Liberty's Edge

@Niles, no, I meant -I- would go android. Ah, you probably thought I said "I could go -for- an android." Easy mistake. =p It looks like we got our Ysoki, so that plan goes down in flames.

Alright, Imma just wait until Niles figures out what he wants to do, and then to the exact opposite of that. Just like my normal RP. ^_^

SPELL CACHE (SU) 1st Level (A handheld computer)
As the culmination of your early study of the fundamental forces of the galaxy, you have created a spell cache that allows you to store and access spells. Your spell cache could be a device such as a handheld computer or technological implant; an item such as a ring or staff; or a symbol such as a brand, tattoo, or other permanent modification to your body. While you don’t need your spell cache to cast your spells, once per day, you can activate your spell cache to cast any one spell you know and are capable of casting, even if you’ve expended all your spell slots for that spell’s level. If your spell cache is damaged, it is restored to full Hit Points the next time you prepare spells. If the spell cache is lost or destroyed, you can replace it after 1 week with a special ritual that takes 8 hours to complete.

Spellcasting: Spells/day

Spells Known:
0: Telepathic Message, Energy Ray, Detect Affliction, Detect Magic

I'm not really sold on Mystic Strike, I think maybe Medical Expert might be more in line with the character I'm wanting to make. He won't be flashy (no overt damage spells) but will always have an answer (Lots of skills plus divination spells for "looking things up"

Hey Foxy,

What would you want to see changed for Dr. Imani to be 'complete?'

Magic 8 ball says "Doubtful."

You decide with Niles in what combination you are going to play your crush. Though Androids have the coolest avatars at the moment.

This is true, do you know how hard it is to find a Kasatha avatar?

Saw your earlier request, Foxy. Work happened but it has calmed down now so I'll get on that.

Matarno Imani, MD wrote:

He is complete. I'm just waiting for the others in 'we might get' list to finish for me to make a choice.

Atlas I am prepared in either case with some solid roleplay.

A) Antagonistic knowitall scientist with 0 social skills

B) Socially awkward machine person who favors logic entirely too much

The mechanics of the thing would honestly favor an Android. (-2 CHA and +2 Dex/INT vs just the flat +2 INT, the loss of CHA is exceptionally thematic for this character, I almost just put my human's cha as 8 just because)

Liberty's Edge

Follow up, Niles: Why didn't you go with android first off? I don't want to feel like I'm pushing you in to anything. (Although an Android technomancer seems appropriate. I mean, why wouldn't they all be technomancers? =p)

That said, yeah, I like the feat that humans get. And the skill points. And it still leaves me as a back-up face.
I mean, I'd still do android, but I prefer human.

@Atlas /shrug I almost never play nonhumans so it never really occurred to me until you brought it up.

@Foxy I'm gonna swap over to Android and go full socially undeveloped science nerd. It'll change the character mechanically just a little...(Better Dex and one less feat (bye bye Mystic Strike)) Otherwise everything remains the same.

Basic Backstory:

EH-RK (Eric) was "born" on Absolom station only 6 cycles ago. His birth was unimpressive, he awoke with no memories in a creche with only vague instructions to "Seek out the Society". His birth creche had sufficient credits to see him through his initial forays into Station life, but eventually they began to dwindle and Eric took a job as a research assistant to a prominent physicist studying the Starstone. Over the past 5 years Eric has chafed under the biologically inferior scientist and itches to make his own discoveries. To this end he sought out "the Society"

This is the profile, its an old one I had from one of my SAVAGE WORLD! games. I'll get the Profile up to snuff forthwith
