Yeah, I wish several skills had more application. Appraise is certainly one of them; it's mostly useless unless the GM is strict about not telling you how much the pile of gems is worth without an Appraise check. I've never met a GM who does that and I'm too lazy to force the issue every time it comes up. But this was a clever use of the skill.

Totally. I made a deal with my Reign of Winter players that, as long as someone took ranks in the skill, I'd always allow a Take 10 to Appraise and never, ever shaft them on gold piece value. (I laid it out as 10 ranks, but I think I'll amend it to +10 net.) The rogue in the party agrees as it fits his PC concept anyway, so no worries about spending the skill points (two high-Int PCs besides the rogue means he doesn't have to spread them out a bunch).

It's just one of those things I kinda wish they'd rolled into Bluff/Diplomacy if they wanted to make it so PCs can negotiate a price in a GM's world.

I thought we had an elemental gem, but I couldn't find it int he threads, must be mistaking it for something else.

I'm thinking the whip feather token might be helpful here.

Also, there was a ring of the ram, did we sell that?

I nabbed all the unclaimed loot that looked useful. I have the ring as well as the gem I believe.

Ah! I feel better now. Things are finally all starting to come together after quite a while of what I felt was probably a bit confusing and random to you. It all had a connection, but you purposefully didn't have all the pieces before so that you didn't quite know what was going on in this town.

Clearly it's not a good idea for me to be holding all the fire.

Crafted a potion of CMW for 150gp. Sadly you can only craft 1/day even though they only take 2 hours to make.

Heads up, y'all: flying out tomorrow to visit dear friends in Oregon, then it's on to Seattle for PaizoCon goodness. Though I may get the chance to check in periodically along the way, I may not. I'll be back for reals next Tuesday evening.

Similar situation here. At least I have wayfinder. I'll do what I can, but the loot sheet is probably going to stay a bit outdated.

FTR, I missed this in my weekly morass of Paizo threads. Back aboard now.

Also, I have zero issue with anyone posting whenever. In fact, I expect that in play-by-post. (I'm pretty easy-going at the table too, LOL.)

I didn't mean you Miso. I referenced you on the Gameplay, because you were the last to speak and as I said, I've begun to lose the thread of the story, so the easiest thing to do was refer to last post.

I'm not pointing at any one thing, we all know we are all active players. I just know that with all of us having other games going, if a thread doesn't show any new posts after a few days, you begin to "forget" about it. My post was merely an attempt to "jumpstart" the action.

Heavens, my summer has been super busy, EF got married and moved!, Miso was at Paizo Con...Gen Con is coming!

Realistically, we probably won't settle back on to a good clip until Sept.

Didn't take it personally. No worries there.

July and August (sometimes June too) are always tough for scheduling face-to-face games, let alone play-by-post stuff. We'll catch a hook soon and hurtle through things. :-)

I'll update later today. Yeah, with struggling to keep with so many other games going, I let this one slip for a few days. I'm almost out of PFS scenarios to run though so once I finish up the backlog I'll only have a couple new ones going at a time and will be able to focus more effort on my APs. Of my three APs, unfortunately, you guys got put aside for a few days because Runelords has a much clearer storyline (and is in a dungeon right now) and Shattered Star is a complete dungeon crawl with a simple mission so it's really easy to follow.

As I said before, the first half of this book is kinda all over the place and hard to follow; the story is not set out very linearly (which can be good if it's written well, but I don't think this book is written very well at all). Once everything clicks together (very soon!) we'll hit the more dungeon-y part of the book and things should go smoother than they have been for the past couple months.

Probably written to be a little sandbox-y; that's James Jacobs' style, so it makes sense.

Paizo tried much the same thing with Chapter 1 of Reign of Winter*, though it's not really Neil Spicer's style so it's more linear and somewhat less convoluted plot-wise.

Having run the entire RoW AP, I agree. Chapter 1 was still good but they probably should have just kept it linear (that's how it turns out when you run it anyways) rather than try to make it sandbox-y.

I played it twice. I thought it *was* linear. How about that.

Story-wise, it pretty much is: go here, learn this, go there, learn that, go elsewhere, learn the other.

How you can get from one part to the next is a bit more sandbox-y, especially in Chapter 1. From there it streamlines out. (YMMV.)

Yeah, been pretty crazy for me as well. Started a new job, have a couple weddings I am part of, one this weekend actually. I haven't been keeping up as much as I would like to either. I won't ever complain about things being moved on either, so no worries there.

Hey I started a new job too. Learning a whole new skill set. It's been kinda rough I admit.
We should plan these major life events better so they don't interrupt our PbPs. Er, wait a minute...
