Gromsk stays on the stairs while Rakenlattle performs his inspection, though he keeps a vigilant eye on the next set of stairs.
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 20

![]() |

Lore stays behind and watches as Raken moves forward to determine if the going can be safe or made safe. "Do be careful, I can only heal you from so far away."

![]() |

Jaysin will stay with Lore, not wanting to risk injury due to falling buildings.

![]() |

Kleetus looks on with unabashed wonder. Them folk sure know how to think about things.

![]() |

As Rakenlattle begins to move forward he notices the faint glint of silver wire crossing the stairwell. Upon closer inspection it appears to be conjured and nigh invisible, indicative of some sort of magic warding or trap.
The cracks in the ceiling appear to be superficial and not indicative of any immediate threat.

![]() |

Takkit skirts the edge of the room, nervously watching the ceiling.
Be careful! If there is a trap over there I will help make it go away!
As speaks, he moves forward to assist Rakenlattle in doing just that.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18

![]() |

"Wish it could have been the ceiling, that could be repaired or avoided. This here is a magical trap and I neither have the tools nor experience to deal with it. Last time I ran into one we just ended up going around it."
The gunslinger pauses to rub a hand idly on his a headband before gesturing to the full height and width of the stairway.
"This one seem to cover the entire passage. Can't avoid it unless someone else can remove the magic or find a way around."

![]() |

Surely one of you has the skill to perform such a task? Jaysin asks the question in a tone that is less hopeful than it is expectant.
I do have a chronicle boon that would enable Jaysin to cast Dispel Magic at his character level if we deem it needed here.

![]() |

Takkit's ears flatten as he sighs.
I can't make magic traps go away... My sister can, but she's a lot sneakier than me... I wish she were here... She could get rid of that in a few seconds!
Read, I'm a knife master so I traded all my useful trap abilities for useful knife abilities...

![]() |

"Why we gotta go down the trapped stairs? How 'bout we try going 'round 'nother way? Ah mean, there's that big ol' curtain right there."

![]() |

Rakenlattle shrugs, "If you are prepared for everything, then nothing will surprise you. I don't even really know how to deal with traps in the first place. Although I might seem a bit skilled at it, that is all just some borrowed knowledge from some soul who pressed some useful memories into the items I have."
"I think Kleetus is on point here, we'll check for other routes first."
Rakenlattle approaches the curtain, once again careful to examine for traps as he opens it and searches beyond.

![]() |

The curtained area has already been explored.
The large set of curtains overlooks a pool over 100 feet below. The area is dark and unlit, so details are difficult to distinguish but it appears as though across the way are a few other unlit rooms with openings facing the pool as well.

![]() |

Kleetus, looking dejected, munches on his lower lip. "Well shucks. We wanna try climbin' down or going down the trap? Maybe we tie a rope to whoever goes down the trapped corridor thinger and then pull when it starts gettin' bad."
I don't know that using dispel magic would end our problems. but I could be wrong. Any ideas/summoners with some spare level 1 summons with a deathwish?

![]() |

"Both of those sounds all reasonable and like. I do wonder if we there was any bits left upstairs that might help us here. Magic or any magical key phrases."
Have we exported the room with statue to next to the barred entrance? If we have not, Rakenlattle will go up, check for traps, and search the area.

"I have a,scroll that might work" lore pulls out a,scroll of dispel magic

![]() |

"I have a,scroll that might work" lore pulls out a,scroll of dispel magic. "I have a more powerful one too, but lets, check the relative strength of the magic here before deciding which one to use"
She casts, detect magic before using either scroll.

The room radiates several magical auras. Knowledge (arcana) check is a few posts back if you're trained in it.
Rakenlattle retraces his steps to search for any alternative routes. The staircase in the room with the statue at the top leads out to the open night sky.
The room one level down from the entryway contains several small alcoves, each containing a prayer mat and a small bronze mirror etched with a rune of envy.
From the window in the entry way and the balcony in the fountain chamber, you get a pretty good view of the well below and the other rooms overlooking it below. The room that is current warded has a wide opening where it looks as though a balcony used to be. It likely collapsed over the years leaving a sheer drop, but the structural integrity of the room itself seems unaffected by the collapse.

![]() |

survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
lore has spellcraft, but not know arcana... was just trying to get an idea of the approximate strength of the magic and detect magic should be able to gather that alone.

![]() |

Growing increasingly impatient with the boffin's lack of progress, Gromsk gives a suggestion.
"The best way to find traps is to trigger them. I'll volunteer to move across to the other staircase."

![]() |

"Whelp" exclaims Kleetus, Ah'll start tying that rope. Yell lahke yer in pain if somethin' bad happens. Or pull the rope. We only got a buncha feet of it though."[/b]
Anyone else have some rope?

![]() |

Takkit should have rope, a grappling hook, and pitons.

![]() |

Jaysin has no objections to the plan as he is not the one that is putting himself in danger. Just try not to get us killed by doing something foolish. Agreed?
He'll help with the rope if asked, however.

![]() |

Takkit looks on nervously as Gromsk begins tying himself off.
I can go with you, if you want! Two are better than one, right?

![]() |

"Oh, DO be careful... I have a bad feeling about this... " Lore casts guidance on Gromsk just as he's about to go be foolish.

![]() |

As soon as Gromsk passes over the edge of the aura, a creaking sound grows loud quickly. Suddenly, a loud crack sounds and dust begins pouring in from the ceiling and the far side of the next room appears to be blocked by rubble! just to the right of the blocked passage however appears to have an opening that is still large enough for medium creature to pass through. The ceiling is spewing dust more and more rapidly and it seems as though it may collapse at any moment!
What do you all wish to do?

![]() |

Well? You've gone that far, see if its safe to pass through that opening.

![]() |

"Now that is interesting. I could have sworn it was all stable when I examined it, the magic must be causing the collapse. Be careful there, move quickly no matter what you do."
Rakenlattle is going to keep an eye on the ceiling to try to accurately gauge how much time the structure has before it collapses.
Knowledge (engineering): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20

![]() |

Gromsk heeds Rakenlattle's warning and sprints to the descending stair.

![]() |

I wasn't sure that the check was made to see if its stable. Anyway, Jaysin sees Gromsk move quickly across and after hearing Rakenlattle's suggestion Jaysin will decide to go with Gromsk before the room collapses and who know what will happen to him then.

![]() |

Rakenlattle, it appears like a 'relatively' slow collapse. Relatively slow is... well... a descriptor meaning it hasn't already fallen on your head. Ceiling chunks are beginning to break open in the stairwell immediately above you and if you were to hazard a guess, getting away immediately would be a good idea. The ceiling is definitely NOT structurally stable at all. Why it suddenly looks so different is a bit confusing to you, Rakenlattle.
Gromsk and Jaysin, go ahead and give me will saves with a +2 bonus.

![]() |

Give me a reflex save DC 20 (this counts as a trap) or go plummeting over the edge into the water below.
Fall damage: 5d6 + 2d3 ⇒ (2, 5, 1, 1, 5) + (3, 2) = 19
If you succeed on the save you remain in the room, clear of mind, and can attempt to prevent your friends from repeating your near mistake. If you fail you can at least give them a shout that might help them.

![]() |

Reflex: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 2 = 23
"Whoah there! It's a blasted illusion! There's nothing in here except a nice view of the central shaft and a slanted floor."
Anything I need to do to guide the others through?

![]() |

will: 1d20 + 12 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 12 + 2 = 21

![]() |

Will Save vs Illusion: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 + 2 = 27
Rakenlattle runs his hands against the walls and watches the ceiling above. "Wonderful. I was expecting something explosive to happen, but what they did here makes sense and still caught me off guard. I hope that they have more traps down below."

![]() |

![]() |

Will: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Takkit looks around in a panic.
Its coming down around us! The whole room is caving in!
The kitsune starts to head toward Gromsk.
Why'd you stop?! The roof is coming down!

![]() |

Lore walks over to Takkit and reaches up, putting a hand on his arm gently. "It's okay, it's all an illusion.. the room is fine... safe actually... "

![]() |

Will Save: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (14) + 12 = 26
Kleetus puts a hand through the "falling rubble". "Ain't nothin' there foxy man-agent! C'mon Takkit. Abadar and Ah, his Left Hook, believe in you! For mighty is the mightyness of Abadar, him who is so mighty!"

![]() |

Will!: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 4 + 2 = 15
Are you blind? We're talking about THIS room! Jaysin starts to duck and dodge thru the rubble, hoping that he doesn't die again.

![]() |

Gromsk rolls his eyes and grabs a hold of Takkit.
CMB if needed: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
As he wrestles with the kitsune, he shouts over his shoulder.
"Someone tackle Jaysin before he falls to his death!"

![]() |

Rakkenlattle is taken a bit as he withdraws from his reverie to the reality. Within that reality was the understanding that his small frame was never going to stop the charging human. He doesn't stop to ponder as he pulls a pistol on Jaysin.
"Stop Jaysin! What you are seeing is not real, but I will shoot you if you go charging off!"
He wasn't happy with his solution and wished he had better tools at hand. If Jaysin continued moving, firing would only encourage the archer to move more quickly, but it might serve as a decent distraction for another to stop Jaysin.
Readying a startling shot to miss Jaysin to help someone else in slowing down the archer if he keeps running and someone else is in position.

![]() |

So we can move forward...
Lore and Kleetus CMB vs Flat Footed Jaysin: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 121d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25
Kleetus grabs on to Jaysin as he makes a run for it. The ceiling comes collapsing down on Jaysin and Takkit (or so they think) but on receiving no wounds from the falling rubble they are promptly snapped out of the illusion. All remnants of the illusion flicker away and you find yourselves standing in the room as it was before Gromsk stepped foot across the ward. The rest of the room is empty. It seems as though this room served as the boundary between the Aspis Consortium and the cultists below.

![]() |

I was waiting to see if you needed another roll from me, I wasn't sure if I could disbelieve again. Feel free to make rolls for me as needed so not to delay the game, I'm cool with DM rolls.
Jaysin looks at the ceiling, then himself, then back to the ceiling. What sorcery was that? Gathering himself, Jaysin takes a calmer look of his surroundings. As if nothing had happened the archer will suggest, Perhaps those stairs to the south will lead to something more revealing.

![]() |

"Ya sure we don't wanna try that big pit o' black down over there?" asks Kleetus, puzzled. "Oh well. On we go t'git them Lissalans. Although... Maybe we can talk them intah not helpin' the Aspis?"
Unless someone starts taking the lead on that, Kleetus will move forwards into that staircase.

![]() |

"Somehow I think that would be like making a deal with the devil... though we could have a common enemy, that may not actually be the case... let's see what happens when we find these cultists."

![]() |

"I suspect that dealing with devils is nothing new to the Society, but I agree, let us move forward and see what happens. I'll take lead and keep an eye out for any other traps."
Perception: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (7) + 23 = 30
