Shadow Lodge

"The night was uneventful, thank the gods."

Kayla:
They do not mean to poison you. However, the old man is taking a great deal of interest in the particulars of your defenses...

"Sorry, my friend, we have no meat. The wolves have long since devoured our animals."

Bryce:

The women look sad at the mention of the wolves eating their animals.

"We are glad of your help master Mage. Pray, tell me what it you need to know? I have a tendancy to simply ramble on and on..."

Female (for now) Human 6 Barbarian

These women seem at a great loss, this man however...

"All business aside, we apologize for not introducing ourselves correctly. I'm Brynn. Here's Kayla, Cecil, Bryce, and Osslend with his hounds. Your name, sir?"

Edit: Brynn reaches to shake the man's hand, palm up. With the intent of looking at the man's hands. Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Cecil thinks a moment than says

"when did the wolves firST ARRIVE? Did anyone new arrive in town around that time? Who was the first you know of that got attacked? do you know where they lair? Things like that."

sorry about the caps. I couldn't seem to fix it. I think something's wrong with my phone.

Edit: "of course, Brynn. Thank you. Where are my manners? Nice to meet you. "

Shadow Lodge

"I am Ezekiel and these are Julie and Roshanna. The wolves showed up about three months ago. At first there weren't too many: we even killed a few. Problem was, we never killed all of 'em so they kept comin' back. Now that you mention it, the man that left this morning: he got into town 3 or 4 days before the first attack!"

Brynn:

His forefinger is as long as his middle finger!

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

"How many people have the wolves killed?"

Shadow Lodge

"I don't know exactly. We used to have somewhere around 200-250 people living here. Now there's just over a dozen."

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

Kayla looks surprised. "I had no idea they had killed that many. I had wondered how you had fit everyone into one town hall. It sounds like they plan to exterminate the town completely rather than just feed off the population."

Shadow Lodge

"It just snowballed as their numbers grew. Only some we're able to crawl away. They turned. The rest..."

"Thankfully we haven't suffered a death in a few weeks. we just congregate in the town hall 3 days before and after the full moon."

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

"Do you have any idea where they go when in human form?"

Totally Sensing Motive on his answer. 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (10) + 13 = 23

Male Elf Monk 2/Ninja 4

"Did you hear something last night up at the town hall? During my watch, there were sounds as if something was inspecting our defenses and poking around and testing out means of entrance."

Shinami stated as he picked up a piece of cheese and sniffed it.

Shadow Lodge

"We always hear noises outside the walls at night time. Natural wolves have become more common as a result of the werewolves."

Turning to Kayla: "I suspect that they'd hole up in some dark place somewhere when in human form, but nothing would stop them from walking in the open as far as I know."

Kayla:

He is lying about hearing noises and the natural wolves. He is telling the truth about his suspicions as to where they go in human form, but he's not saying everything.

Shadow Lodge

"Well, if there's nothing else, we'll be heading back. We'll bring some soup before dusk."

The three make to leave.

Male Elf Monk 2/Ninja 4

"Is there nothing you can tell us as to WHY these attacks started? Was it a random attack, did you something to bring their wrath down on this town, or has this been an all out secret war? What's the entire story here. Stating that they 'showed up' doesn't reveal much."

Perception 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Sense Motive 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Shadow Lodge

The old man stops and turns slowly.

"It was a random occurence. This town is certainly cursed, but I do not know why. Good day."

The three move off toward the town hall.

Shinami:

His forefinger is as long as his middle finger. Moreover, he's telling the truth. Oh, and he's getting angry.

male 1/2 Elf Sage Sor/Wiz 2 Gestalt

Once the townsfolk leave,

"Well, weren't they just charming. "

Shadow Lodge

Do you do anything else now, or do we wait for dinner?

"Should we explore or question townspeople?"

Female (for now) Human 6 Barbarian

"I don't know that it's wolves that have the ability to charm or not, but that man may be part of the problem. I noticed his hand...his forefinger was longer than his middle. Is there any way to tell other than that when in human form? Otherwise we may need to do something about him before the full moon. I have heard stories that these wolves are strongest on a full moon, though I don't know how true that may be. That being the case, if we do something today..." Brynn trails off as he considers the weight of possibly being wrong in his accusation.

M Human Level 6 Cavalier (Houndmaster)

"I like none of it. They're too calm for people who have seen their town dwindle from hundreds to a dozen. Something's seriously wrong. We should go up the town hall and ask more questions while it's still daylight."

Male Elf Monk 2/Ninja 4

"Does anyone else find it odd that we've only seen proof of those few we saw? We don't even know if there IS any town folk left hiding in the town hall. Even with regulations, you always have the curious stragglers who poke their heads out, the children with their inquisitive looks finding ways to sneak out. But there was none of that."

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

"I'd like to investigate the town a bit first. Search around, look for signs of how the people have been taken. See if all the homes have been broken into or not. Specifically, I want to see if they willingly let the werewolves into their homes in their human guises. I want to know how they hunt."

Female (for now) Human 6 Barbarian

"Alright, so what's the plan? I know we have to do something today. This makeshift fortress we've made ourselves is a great base of operations, and we likely shouldn't find ourselves too far away from it. If we do need to leave it, everyone moves together. The real question is, what exactly do we do knowing that something is very wrong with this town?"

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

"I vote for investigating the town first, ending with the town hall. That way we can ask more questions should we find anything of interest."

male 1/2 Elf Sage Sor/Wiz 2 Gestalt

"I don't know that we're going to get much out of these people, but We can try. Frankly I'm very curious about the bodies in the woods. It's obviously a dump site, but I imagine we can backtrack wherever they came from. Also may not be a bad idea to burn them as a precautionary measure. I'd hate to be overrun by werewolves and undead."

M Human Level 6 Cavalier (Houndmaster)

DM: Do we think we'd have time to do a quick sweep of the town, get out to the body dump and get back before dark?

"We're not going to get much out of these people, I think, but a quick look at town is a good idea. Then we could go see this mass grave for ourselves."

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

"I just want to know what it is that we will be leaving behind us in town before we go exploring the woods."

"Well then, lets proceed. Where do you propose we start?"

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

"May as well start with the buildings surrounding the tavern. If the old man is with the wolves, he could have arranged ambush places nearby."

Shadow Lodge

I have the plan as follows: Search the town excluding town hall, circle out to the mass grave site, then back to the tavern before dark. do I have it right?

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

Sounds about right to me.

Female (for now) Human 6 Barbarian

Only post unless it's slow at work today: sure. Sounds like the plan. Definitely want to make a point to question a few people.

Sounds good to me. Poe will be keeping a 'birds eye view' out for us while we search.

Shadow Lodge

You all head out into the town together to search the town.

The buildings nearest the tavern have all but collapsed into themselvs. As you move further out, there are a few shops and a bunch of houses. Like the tavern, all the windows have been shatered. There are blood stains in a few places and splintered wood all over. The is no sign of a living soul or a dead body anywhere around (Other than the skeletons in the cellar of the tavern). Cobwebs tell that even the spiders have moved on from this place.

I'll need three survival checks to read what could have happened here. These are not easy DCs due to the amount of time that has passed. don't forget about take 10 and 20: just remember how much time they take. Aid another might be a good choice if you choose to roll.

Female (for now) Human 6 Barbarian

lol jk
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24

DM:

Owen takes 20 for a total of 32 survival check. Plus he has scent if that's relevant. WHen the others are not looking he whispers any relevant details to me.

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

"Anyone else find it odd that the only building that had bodies in it is the one that they put us in?"

Shadow Lodge

Survival Rolls:

Bryce
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (19) + 10 = 29
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

Osslend
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26
1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Shinami
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

The party picks its way over the dilapidated town and discovers several things.

1. The oldest, and likely first attacks, were against the influencial town memebers: Mayor, Shop owners, etc. This is an inference based on the fact that these attacks happened in the shops and at the biggest home in town.

2. The attacks stopped for nearly a month after the first attack. The damages we repaired.

3. The second attack has more wolves and killed or injured more people. damages were not repaired. People tried to flee.

4. The third attack was the last, and the worst. Vastly more wolves than before. The town was mostly destroyed in the attack.

5. The next attack was, in fact, a civil war between to forces of werewolves. Few survived.

Speculate. Ask questions if needs be. Formulate your next actions. Good luck and good work!

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

"Can you guys make any guesses as to why the werewolves fiught each other?"

Was there one certain area the civil were war took place?

Shadow Lodge

Started in the middle of mainstreet and spread to everywhere...

"Do you suppose their are two factions? Perhaps one murderous animals and the other relatively civil country folk? Stranger things have happened."Cecil thinks out loud

Then turning to pointedly talk to his companions,

"Perhaps we should ask the old man who brought us breakfast. Either he will be forthright and tell us of the evil wolves, lie completely, or try to kill us. In the former at least these good people will know we're on their side. In the latter case we can simply kill everyone and call it a day. And if he lies we're right back where we started." Cecil waits for feedback.

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

"Well, we've looked everywhere else in town, so the town hall would be next. The old man is most likely there since we haven't seen anyone else during our search. Perhaps we should mention Ragna's name to him as well and see what kind of response he gives?"

"good idea."

Shadow Lodge

You saw Ezekiel go over to the town hall. Are you going there or out to the grave site?

Female Aasimar Cleric / 1

I think town hall first. What time of day is it currently?

Shadow Lodge

By now it's 11:15 am. I'll wait for at least one other to confirm the trip to town hall.

Female (for now) Human 6 Barbarian

"Sounds like a solid plan, Cecil. My brain works with things in front of me and combat situations. Piecing puzzles together aren't usually my thing."

M Human Level 6 Cavalier (Houndmaster)

"Yes, I'm definitely curious to talk to him again. Let's visit town hall."

On the way, Osslend's face runs the gamut of introspection to realization and he wonders aloud, "That song both of those men sung...you don't think there's some sort of man-wolf queen, do you?"

Shadow Lodge

The party approaches the town hall. It is a drab building. Its white washed walls show a sickly yellow in the harsh midday sun. All the windows -there are several- are boarded up and thick, dark curtains hang behind. The front door is on a porch accessed by 6 steep, wooden stairs. The wood on the landing is discolored from where a rug used to be to wipe one's feet. At the back of the hall, the cellar has been heavily boarded up and large stones piled high to block any entrance from that way. Iron pitons have been scattered all over the roof.

Someone take point and let me know what the plan is.

male 1/2 Elf Sage Sor/Wiz 2 Gestalt

"Frontal assault then?" Cecil chuckles

M Human Level 6 Cavalier (Houndmaster)

"He said something about the wolves holing up in some dark place during the day, didn't he?"

Osslend points to the barred and curtained windows. "If I was trying to defend a place, I'd definitely bar the windows...but I don't think I'd curtain them. Curtains are no defense. In face, they hinder visibility from both sides. They serve only to make things dark."
