Krstani

Krstani feels for the wounded but her abilities lie elsewhere. She sends a pair of blasts at the golem.

DC 14 Reflex for half
| GM Cwethan |
Caelhal, I'm assuming you're angling the cone up so you don't catch Erhun or any of your other companions, since I'm pretty sure they've got some auras, but that will mean you're only catching the Golem. Let me know if I'm importantly incorrect.
Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Reflex: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Though Kassen's Golem is able to partially block one of Krstani's gouts of fire, it still burns easily at every point it is touched, and Aviram's blade finds the hardwood to be no more impenetrable. However, despite the fact that it is now heavily scarred, the Golem still seems almost entirely functional, though without Family its offensive is at least partially curtailed, and the heavily armored Occultist is able to safely weather the Golem's blow.

Blocking the golem's shield with his own, Aviram keeps taunting it as he takes another swing.

Aviram and Miklos lay into the Golem, chips of wood flying as it topples to the ground, releasing its other shield.
Fight Over! What do you do?
Ilyaleh Kajij
|
She was no healer, but damn if that didn't look painful. She's no healer, but... Ilyaleh moves forward, until she's beside him. She might not be able to heal him, but if it came to the worst, she could drag him back. And besides... Perhaps this put her close enough that she could cause the golem to combust?
For now, though, this is close enough. She casts guidance on Erhun, even as she says, "Be careful - don't overdo it!"
| GM Cwethan |
Erhun looks pretty banged up, but he can still walk; he can still fight. He'd probably appreciate it if someone healed him while on vacation though :)
The Golem's shields are still reasonably intact, even if the sizing isn't quite right. They can be used as a Tower Shield, but they will leave their wielder flat-footed.
There is another locked door to the south, though you do have a fancy new key, or there are the other two locked doors you have already encountered.
What do you do?
Aviram Ocella
|
"I say we continue down this route. Let's postpone backtracking through the sword-filled hallway for now."
| GM Cwethan |
The door opens easily with the key Miklos dredged up from the pool.
Inside is a small chamber with a table on the opposite side of the room. On top of this table are a number of items, many of which have small notes attached:
Three wands (labeled Magic Missile, Cure Light Wounds, and Mage Armor
One scroll (labeled Lesser Restoration
Two vials (labeled Bull's Strength and Magic Weapon
A masterwork Bec de Corbin
A masterwork Falcata
Ilyaleh Kajij
|
Ilyaleh eyes the room suspiciously, wary of any particularly terrible and bad things. They'd certainly run into enough traps and such to warrant her concern. "Ara, look around," she murmurs to the fox.

"And now you're not so bruised, eh?" she says to the man cheerfully. Returning her attention to the remaining bits and pieces, she notes, "I think I can use the Mage Armor wand, but the Magic Missile one is beyond me. Can anyone else here use it?" After a pause, she adds, "And if no one minds, I'd like to hold onto this wand." Ilyaleh holds up the wand of cure light wounds. She's not sure if someone's going to protest or tell her no - she almost expected it, given her previous experiences, but, well. They'd been nice so far, right?
As though aware of what she was thinking, Ara poked her in the cheek. The stubborn fox.
Miklos Therinor
|
Miklos picks up the falcata and examines it. This is of fine workmanship...it will make a good backup..never know when a blade will break or get taken. We should split up the gear here and proceed.
If you want, use my wand to heal Erhun...i don't care about the charges...save your spells. wands and scrolls obviously go to the casters. One of the beefy guys whould take the bull's strength pot. as for the magic weapon oil....toss up.I can use it....if anybody else wants it they can have it
Ilyaleh Kajij
|
I'm using the wand that's there - I figure it goes to the venture captain anyway, so why not make use of it? c:
| GM Cwethan |
Ara doesn't see any traps, so the party comes forward.
Krstani can verify that all of the labeled items are indeed magic, but lacks the experience with their auras to be more specific. Trained only skills are involved for more information.
Ilyaleh tests the curative wand though, and Erhun's wounds do indeed heal.
I'll take the polearm then.
There is no further exit to this room, so it seems your path will take you back through the hall of swords once these... gifts? have been divvied up.
| GM Cwethan |
There are 7 charges left on the CLW wand. Ilyaleh had previously claimed it (probably to increase the number of people who could pull out a heal if necessary).
Ilyaleh Kajij
|
"Does everyone label such things?" Ilyaleh asked, curious. Now that she thought about it, the labels were a bit out of place, weren't they?
| GM Cwethan |
Caelhal: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (8) - 4 = 4
Erhun: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Ilyaleh: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (20) - 2 = 18
Miklos: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Krstani: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Damage to Aviram: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Damage to Caelhal: 1d4 ⇒ 2
The pathfinders are able to return to the key room, though Caelhal and Aviram collect a few ugly looking nicks on their way through the Hall of Swords.
What I've seen so far re: the looting of items:
Wand of Magic Missiles to Krstani, Wands of CLW and Mage Armor to Ilyaleh
Scroll of Lesser Restoration to Caelhal
A masterwork Bec de Corbin to Erhun
A masterwork Falcata to Miklos
Two vials (labeled Bull's Strength and Magic Weapon) unclaimed (Any interest Aviram?)
What's next, batter down this door, batter down the mystery door from earlier, fiddle with the mystery switch, or search a room more carefully?
Aviram Ocella
|
I'll take the Bull's Strength and Magic Weapon.
"Ilyaleh, could you use your new wand on me? The hall of swords nicked me something awful.
Perhaps we should tap our way through the entirety of the northeastern room to see if there are any keys or the like we missed.
Ilyaleh Kajij
|
"Certainly," Ilyaleh agrees, tapping him once more with her newly discovered and very temporary wand.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"Here's to hoping we solve the riddle and headache of this place before one of us is felled by its plentiful traps," she mutters. She waits to see what consensus the group comes to before touching anything. Louder, she asks, "What now?"
She looks about suspiciously, just in case something's changed in the brief time since they were gone. Or perhaps her perception has? One can never be too careful in a deathtrap after all.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (4) + 0 = 4
| GM Cwethan |
I see one vote for tapping your way through the pit room. Once I get a second vote for that or any other plan, I'll proceed.
Krstani

Krstani accepts the wand cautiously. She follows Aviram to the northeastern room to finish searching it.

After tracing a rather convoluted path around several more traps, you all discover two more switches inside the Maze of Pits.
Ilyaleh Kajij
|
"I'd say that's evident," Ilyaleh says, both suspicious and a bit grumpy. She tries to see what the two switches might work with. If she can't figure it out, she draws Ara's attention to it.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 9
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
This might not be super useful information, but just out of curiosity, hope, and a dream, what do these switches look like?
| GM Cwethan |
The switches are very small, hard to see from any sort of distance, but they have some of the same ornate stonework in the handle that you recognize from the locked door out of this room.
Ilyaleh Kajij
|
"I am in agreement - hopefully the door will stay open." Ilyaleh says, eying the switches. She moves forward, careful, and examines the switch by Ara before pressing it.
If it looks suspect or as though she'll very much regret, she'll wait a bit, pointing it out to her peers.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (11) + 0 = 11
Perception (Ara): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
| GM Cwethan |
Aviram, Miklos and Ilyaleh all pull the switches together, and a series of clicks emits from the closed door, which Erhun is quick enough to open before it re-locks.
The wails that you have been able to hear while you examined the hall of pits, grow louder as the door opens. There are three doors you can see within the halls. The northernmost one has a very odd construction, and no handle on this side. The screaming is coming from behind the southernmost door.
Krstani
|
Krstani tries to listen to the screaming, hoping to understand what the problem is.
perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Ilyaleh Kajij
|
Moving to join Erhun, Ilyaleh grimaces even as Ara's ears tilt forward, nearly flattening to his head. "If for no other reason than to maintain our relative sanity, I must agree." The screaming - the strange, ear-agitating sound - is annoying at best and extremely distracting at worst. "Is that the door we ought to try first? And let us not forget to make sure we don't accidentally trigger any more traps." Certainly, they'd seen way too many.
What's the odd construction? Aside from the lack of handle?
| GM Cwethan |
@ Krstani The wailing sounds like something human, or at least humanish, in terrible distress.
@ Ilyaleh It looks as though it should open toward you, which would make it very difficult, if not impossible, to open from this side
Aviram Ocella
|
Aviram walks out of crypt entirely and finds a rock or the like in the gorge. Bringing it back in, he gives the odd door a look.
"This might prevent it from slamming shut behind us."
| GM Cwethan |
Aviram blocks the door out open in an entirely justified bit of caution, and the party proceeds towards the screaming.
The floor just outside the door has bones liberally strewn across it, many of them cracked and broken. The mournful wailing grows louder at the sound of the bones skittering across the floor as the party walks through them.
The door Perhaps inevitably is locked.
Ilyaleh Kajij
|
As loud as the screaming is, Ilyaleh has to fight the urge to follow Ara's example and cover her own ears - this truly is atrocious.
"Let's try a different door first then?"
