Baern Bellindorn |
Baern will wait for the others to cross the bottom of the pit and climb to the other side before releasing the rope around Shu and grabbing his own. Testing the sturdiness of the bridge's support post, he ties one end of the rope around it and drops the rest down.
"We can grab it on our return. Shu! When you get up the other side, hang your rope down for everyone to climb up!"
Once everything is set, Baern shimmies down and up the rope to traverse the pit.
T10 on climbing both down and up
Brewslee Haiiya |
Thatsh a long way down.... and the hole ish spinning Brewslee takes a few attempts at grabbing the rope as he carefully slides down it.
Take 10
Malachite Stoneheart |
Malachite, at one with rocks and stones, finds climbing quite easy and enjoyable.
If this is our plan, I will also climb down taking 10 for an 18 total.
Bevek Verdade |
Bevek grimaces at Hustavan.
Fat lot of good you are. Well, I don't see the trap, but it looks like we are just going to avoid it. Wait up.
Take 10 on climb check for 14.
GM Bold Strider |
Going to dial this back as something happens as soon as Shu crosses the bridge.
Shu examines the bodies through... less than proper means. The dead don't react to the arrows that embed themselves in the corpses. He gears up to cross the bridge and strides boldly onto the bridge when Mu leaps into the crevasse.
Mu finds that he is about to soon meet Shu face to face as the bridge rises up and flings Shu off. A cackling sound echoes throughout the room as a gust of wind rushes past Shu and he is flung into the pit below.
DC 20 Reflex Save or take 2d6 falling damage. Baern: Make a Strength check DC 10 to give Shu a +2 to his saving throw.
Poltergeists also have a natural invisibility that cannot be dispelled and allows them to attack without revealing themselves.

Brewslee Haiiya |
Brewslee is confused by what is happening and goes into a defensive stance.
I am thinking of running to the door and opening it but I am afraid there may be more creatures beyond.
Old Shu |
Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
"AAAaaaiii!" Shu rides the bridge like a wild horse for a moment, somehow managing to stay on it. "What is happening!?"
Malachite Stoneheart |
Know Religion: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
"I have studied this effect. In my training they were called poltergeist or "noisy ghost". They are invisible, which makes them tricky to hit, and like to throw things. They are seriously hard to destroy."
Knowing all this, Malachite looks for the spot where the ghost was last, and takes a swing at the space with his temple sword.
Mal MW Temple Sword: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Not sure how you want to play the miss chance and or the invisibility, so please lmk and I will try to comply.
Baern Bellindorn |
Str: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Baern tries his darnedest, but with his attention split between him and the other he is completely unprepared for Shu's unexpected flight. The rope slips through his grip and the dwarf in unable to slow Shu's fall.
Know Religion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15
Seeing what's happening, Baern looks around for an obvious source. Seeing none, he realizes what is happening. "Stand thy ground, men! This poltergeist will nae show itself, but we may yet know where it be."
With those words, he casts a spell upon himself which allows him to see invisibility. He then tells others where to aim with whatever ranged weapons they may possess.
In other words tell them what square it's in so they can at least be firing in the proper direction.
"Put this spirit to rest so it may continue its journey in peace!"
Gob Master of Greed |
Know Religion: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
Realizing what they are up against Gob casts a spell and touches Bevek's bow. "You should be able to hurt it with your bow now."
Casting magic weapon on Bevek's bow. Making it a +1 weapon for 3 minutes (I think).

Bevek Verdade |
Well, if you think so.
Bevek sights down an arrow, and takes a shot at where the dwarf is pointing.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 1 = 7
It makes a nice arc through the air before hitting the far wall.
Gob Master of Greed |
"My magic can only do so much. You still need to aim your shots." Gob says as he watchs the arrow sail harmlessly over the target.

GM Bold Strider |
You guys should know that only magical or ghost touch weapons can hurt things like ghosts. That is pretty common knowledge, I think.
Some of the party takes steps to counter the invisible menace while the other flail about with their weapons.
As soon as Baern sees it, everyone sees a rock float next to Shu before it tries to slam into his face.

2nd: Ghost
3rd: Bevek; Shu @ 38/41 HP; Mu; Malachite
Baern Bellindorn |
Baern sighs at the miss and decides to show everyone the way by lighting up the target.
And possibly getting its attention on me rather than my team!
Disrupt Undead!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 ranged touch AC
1d6 ⇒ 1 positive energy
That is the last time I use my pinky to cast that...
Malachite Stoneheart |
Been more than 30 minutes of game time since the Zombie Wolf? Would Malachite still have Magic Stone active? If not, then all he's got for ranged weapons is a pair of javelins.
Brewslee Haiiya |
I could use enchanted weapons though all I have for ranged are shurikens. Not sure if your enchant does single shuriken or a batch.
Gob Master of Greed |
It would be single shurikens, though it does work for a monks unarmed strikes surprisingly. Also for the 50% miss chance are we going with high is good?
With no one else in need of magical aid Gob follows Baern's lead and fires a ray of disrupting energy.
Ranged touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 83
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
Please add +1 to hit and damage if the creature is with in 30 feet.
"Oh so we aren't using pinkies. I'll skip that part next time."
GM Bold Strider |
@Malachite: You're Magic Stone should have a few minutes left.
Mu applies an oil to his weapon, thinking that he will be able to knock the ghost out of the sky as Gob fires off a Disrupt Undead.
Initiative:
1st: Brewslee; Gob; Baern
2nd: Ghost @ 2 damage
3rd: Bevek; Shu- Feared for 5 rounds @ 38/41 HP; Mu; Malachite
Baern Bellindorn |
Baern rolls his eyes at the screaming gnome and again casts a bolt of positive energy at the poltergeist.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
1d6 ⇒ 6
If Shu can do something better than myself, I can remove his fear.
Brewslee Haiiya |
Brewslee begins to look through his pack for something to strike this unearthly creature with.
Delay action until poltergeist gets within reach of temple sword.
Brewslee looks up from his pack and squints his eyes, looking in the direction of the poltergeist, only catching a very slight glimpse of it before it disappears again and back at Mu Ping. His head goes back and forth quickly. Gob... GOB! Did you mirror image Mu?
Sorry guys I am useless this fight unless I am able to somehow get within range.
GM Bold Strider |
@Baern: Technically, you can't ask him anything. He is feared and since you don't know if he would be effective, then I'm pretty sure your character wouldn't know either.
Baern feels the scorn of the poltergeist as it hurls another rock at the dwarf.
Rock @ Baern-23 AC: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27

Bevek Verdade |
Ahh, there it is.
Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 1 = 7 Are you kidding me?
Once again, his arrow makes a beautiful arc as it flies uninterrupted across the cavern.
Baern Bellindorn |
Will (+2 for Shake It Off): 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 10 + 2 = 15
Assuming that succeeds, Baern shrugs off the damage and again fires the ray of positive energy.
RTA: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
1d6 ⇒ 4
Brewslee Haiiya |
Brewslee darts across the bridge slipping past Old Shu as he attempts to block his path so as not to hurt himself in his frenzy. Shu.. Shu.. itsh alright Shu Brewslee slaps the gnome across the face. Shnap outta it Shu. The hellsh amatta with you?
Brewslee holds forth one of his flasks as he drains it into the gnomes mouth. Have a little liquid courage. It helps me from being scared.
Malachite Stoneheart |
Remembering the enchanted stones in his pouch, Malachite grabs one of the rocks, hefts it for a moment feeling its weight and balance, whispers a quick prayer to Torag the Delver, and throws the rock at the poltergeist's location, moving down to the rope bridge in the process.
Ranged touch, magic stone: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 1 = 18
Dmg, vs undead: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (1, 3) + 2 = 6
If, for some reason, the poltergeist isn't classified as undead, then damage is only 1d6+1
GM Bold Strider |
@Brewslee: Shu is on the ground of the pit, not on the bridge. You would have to either climb down or leap off.
Bevek lets another arrow loose, but it goes nowhere near where Baern told him the ghost was.
Malachite tries to throw a rock in that direction, but it barely misses the poltergeist.

3rd: Bevek; Shu- Feared for 4 rounds @ 38/41 HP; Mu; Malachite
Old Shu |
Did Shu fall off the bridge? I thought his reflex save kept him on it. If he is in the pit, he's trying to climb out to escape.
Climb with ring of climbing: 1d20 + 3 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 5 = 21
Gob Master of Greed |
Gob continues casting disrupt undead along with Baern. "Bevek is that thing broken? Maybe you're holding it upside down."
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Miss chance: 1d100 ⇒ 30
GM please add +1 to hit and damage if the target is with in 30 feet. Don't think a 7 or an 8 is going to do it though.
GM Bold Strider |
The poltergeist, seeing the irony in throwing a rock back at the oread, chucks one at his face, but it glances off of the wall behind the rocky man.
