Swashbucklers are probably the coolest of the new classes, and had I not been a melee-er, I'd be all over it. [Even the archetypes are pretty cool -- I really like the thematic idea of the Mouser... and, in fact, I still thought about it and going flying blade to fill the "range" role].

Also, considering that swashbuckler finesse makes all 1-handed or light piercing weapons finessable -- which would include things like the heavy pick, the trident and the scizore -- and then the Slashing Grace feat lets you treat a one-handed slashing weapon as if it were a 1-hand piercer (*and* gives dex to damage) -- so you can be a dex-build finesse fighting swashbuckler with a bastard sword, waraxe or falcata.

All-in-all, you can tell whoever made that was excited to do it and so the result is good. Skald.... less so. I mean, it could essentially just be an archetype of bard.

However, the one thing I will say about the hybrid classes is that the reduced spell progression and resulting limited spell levels is certainly something that could be a concern in a party at mid-to-high levels -- when your opponents are throwing around level 5 spells and you're answering with level 3s -- well, I hope your tactics are good. (Arcanist and Shaman notwithstanding)

I'm working on starting a game thread and private recruiting thread. I'm tweaking what I put on the RA one, so any non core race and class is fine with the intention to highlight the acg classes.

But now it's Packers game time! (Could have gone today too, but was on call and had to turn it down)

FYI, I have a url=http://paizo.com/campaigns/GMBloodsSavageTide/recruiting#2]recruitment thread[/url] up!

I have a buddy who would be interested if you are looking for another. He is very solid at PbP.

Sure, I was thinking of adding one more so works for me.

By the way I made a discussion and play threads. Post in play thread if you want it dotted.

Yes let's add this lovely treasure.

As I noted in the other discussion thread, you can dot any gameplay thread, and then immediately delete the post, and the dot still registers for the purpose of making the campaign show up under your Campaign tab. You can do the same thing with the discussion and recruitment threads if you want to follow recruitment threads without anyone knowing you pseudo-posted.

I just want the book, but will have to wait until I memorize Identify to figure out what it is most likely.

I am so glad the villain left a cache of magic items before his lair. Let's all pass them out and use them.

What can go wrong with this plan?

The let's move on plan is looking better and better.

Skorhald, pop over to the new campaign and start posting random rolls. Gives GM Blood a fun way to make the background in your head really not make sense. So far I am an only child twin, my parents were gay turtles and I grew up under a rock on a cliff in the arctic.

Oh, and I am unsure what it means that I was born on the -4th day of the 13th month of the year.

Well, I was rather hoping they were his actual items -- not traps.

FYI, I will be on the road tomorrow and not able to update until evening/late night.

I hope that GM Blood won't mind a minor hijack, but I just put up a recruiting thread in case you all might be interested:

http://paizo.com/campaigns/v5748p75hojzs/recruiting&page=last

If all of you are interested and specifically want to play together, I will run a second, similar campaign for you.

Put your applications in the main thread above and we'll see if there is desire for the second campaign from there.

Could be fun, Crellan -- pretty much the opposite of what GM Blood's whipping up. Dotted over there, but thought I'd mention it here, just so you don't think we're ignoring you. ;)

Sounds fun! I like the twist to it!

Here is a start for invite-only version of the campaign. If you have some other quality players we could use one or two more as I envision this to be for 5-ish characters.

I thought I had answered the pre cackling, but I see I lost it somewhere. I say no to that

It would make me ban cackle.

I agree on the cackle question. While raw it may seem to be allowed it is too much like everyone always having a readied action to attack anything that appears.

I think that's a very apt comparison, actually....

Tough day for Packers D

Amazing Steelers performance, Big Ben was unstoppable and I started him in my fantasy league!!

Yes, tough to watch after the first half. Fortunately another strong Walking Dead was shown tonight to offset the loss.

Unfortunately I got to finish Doctor Who from last night and that is in the running for worst episode since it has come back 2005.

I have Netflix and recommend the Revolution series for apocalyptic sci fi. Dollhouse is pretty good too, though definitely a step down from Firefly.

I tried Revolution, except it was too unrealistic in the basics, such as always having clean clothes that look off the rack, gas still functioning after 15 years, helicopters being able to be flown mere seconds after getting electricity to work even though maintenance is extremely difficult with high tech tools, not to mention said gas. And pulling off crazy maneuvers, I mean one's skill in flying has to degrade somewhat after 15 years and I think even getting a helicopter off the ground would be an amazing feat in the context of the show much less crazy aerial maneuvers chasing down the protagonists.

I loved dollhouse though. I wish the storytelling would have been as intense from the beginning as it was at the end when they had to jam 3 years of stories in half a year.

Female Dwarf Witch/10 - (HP: 64/92; AC 16; FF 14; Touch 16; Fort +7/+9; Ref +6/+8; Will +9/+11; Init +2; Per +13/+17

I watched Revolution for a while. It was fun, but I have to agree having all the lights come on the second the power is restored and being able to fly all those choppers instantaneously was more than a little unrealistic. I mean, we never have problems with things corroding and becoming unusable with maintenance, why would it be any different after 15-20 years.

I think this is one of those cases where the 2d rules don't for the 3d situation. [They really need rules for upward reach..]. If the flayer is about 30 feet up, a 20 for reach from 9-10 feet up (double dwarf height) would be pretty close (though I'd imagine it would require being directly below the bad guy)

Ok, I can go with that, but bladed dash still only allows you to attack an adjacent creature

GM Blood - The flayer seems to be casting spells with verbal components... If that is so then Silence would work. Would that be a correct assumption?

Enlarged Skorhald as Colossus with the Kilthan as Wolverine in a "fast-ball special?"

Yes, so far the spells he cast have been regular spells such as a wizard or sorcerer would cast. His mind blast is a special ability however and not a spell.

By the way I posted this in my other AoW game, but my home game that I play with my high school friends around our birthdays just reached the final chapter and everyone is 20th level (first time for us all). probably one or two more game sessions to go, but I think that means we'll finish in June!

Now back tome coughing and feeling miserable with my 8 days and counting cold.

Congrats on the homegame... ours always fizzle out around 14-16 level mostly because I am GM and super high level play goes so, so slow with such potential for massive disaster.

So, back to the question if asked earlier.. Any objection to Kilthan dipping Bloodrager (allowing a LG character to enter a rage)? [I'd thought about having Aara corrupt Kilthan and bring out a bit of his elven nature and shifting to NG, but I actually prefer this solution]

The other option would be Ulfen Guard PrC - but I don't like dipping PrCs as a roleplayer [e.g. - "Welcome to Secret Organization X! You've been chosen and proven yourself worthy.... What do you mean you only want the basic initiation rites? Maybe we should have picked someone else to join us..."]
