Mariana's bowstring twanged at roughly the same time as Quill's, but it was the archaeologist who got the hit. The orc stumbled as the shaft took it in the chest. Sander took one of the last remaining flasks of alchemists fire and made his decision. Winding up, he threw the flask, then ran back away from the barricade, shouting for the others to get away from whatever it was that the orc had thrown, likely some sort of grenade. The this clay flask broke apart on the orc, covering it with a sheet of flame. The creature yowled and swatted at the fire, heavily injured but still standing. Frum took aim, but his shaking hands sent the heavy crossbow bolt flying wide to the right.

The orc pulled another orb from his pouch, and set to work lighting the fuse poking out of it. Behind him, the crash at the portcullis told you that the orcs were making significant progress with the battering ram.

With a flash of light, a golden-coated, shaggy pony appears next to the Warpriest.
"Get on and get all up in their business! Hurry!"

Having spoken, the Witch swaps out bayonet for arrow again and takes aim...


Yelena hops out of the path of the boulder [5-foot-step to AE25] and swings her hammer down with full force to knock out one side of the supports. "Get ready to move! The next swing sends it flying!"

Quill's shot went wide as he tried to fire on the run, though not by much. Storn's thrown axe was more on target, taking the orc right between the eyes and dropping it to the ground. The grenade the orc was trying to light rolled away from the body, fuse unlit. Mariana's shot went into the mass of orcs at the gate, but she couldn't see if it did any damage or not. Sander looked down at the flask of alchemist's fire in his hands and gauged the distance to the gate. It was an awful long throw for him and he decided to hang on to it until the orcs got closer.

Frum was leaning over the barricade, firing off another heavy crossbow when the grenade at the barrier's base exploded. Chunks of wood and debris flew into the air, and Frum was thrown backwards by the blast. The barricade was badly damaged, though still partially intact, and small flames and wisps of smoke curled from some of the wood. Frum staggered to his feet, blood trickling from his left ear and nose, and shouted obscenities at the orcs.

The portcullis gave way with a horrendous screech of metal, and a small horde of orcs poured through the now ineffective barrier. Three rushed the barricade, stopping just short to throw a volley of javelins. All of the sharp-tipped missiles missed, with Frum only narrowly avoiding one due to staggering movements from the concussion of the grenade. Another half dozen orcs picked the battering ram up once more and managed to work it through the mangled portcullis.

Storn stares at the shiny new pony.

"What the... I'm not hungry! Let me get this log first."

Storn begins singing an ancient Kellid war song as he hacks away at the log.

"Log first! I can get four of the bastards on this side!"

Storn brings down his glaive on the remaining rope holding the log in place.

"LET THE LOGS GO!" Sander shouts as he sees the orcs start to press through, their numbers almost overwhelming. "CUT THE ROPES!"

He waits, ready to throw his last alchemist's fire at the ram-bearers if the orcs make it past the logs.

Move directly forward 10 feet to AH-25, then ready action to throw at one of the orcs at AF-15 or AE-15 if they get up to Row 21 while still surrounded (i.e. I want to hit as many as possible).

As the ranged fighters dropped the lead holders of the battering ram, Storn and Yelena broke out the heavy defenses in the form of the boulder and one of the logs. The boulder, knocked loose from its lashings, smashed through the remnants of the front barricade, its oily coating catching fire from the smoldering remnants left by the grenade. The flaming boulder knocked the leading elements of the orc attack to the ground and crushed them as it headed for the battering ram. The boulder bounced off the log and rolled sideways, hitting the tower just south of the gate. The log rushed down the other side, and the orcs carrying the ram on that side didn't even see it coming until they were crushed under its rolling weight. The remaining orc on the ram dove aside from the dead weight of the ram, looked around, and fumbled for the grenade dropped by the bombadier, then he ran back through the destroyed portcullis.

Frum shook his head dazedly, then pushed himself back to his feet. "I am still with you, milady! If you could tell the idiots to stop ringing the chapel bells, I would appreciate it, though."

"BAAAHAHAHAAH! CARNAGE! BLOOD! DESTROY EVERYTHING!" roars Storn with glee as the log and flaming boulder roll down the hill, crushing orcs everywhere. He is obviously having one hell of a time.

He looks around and then holds up his glaive, daring the remaining orcs to come on.

Yelena watches with rapt wonder as the flaming boulder bounds down the path, trampling and squishing orcs underneath. It hits the wall, the dwarf surveys the scene. She laughs, no, giggles at the line of destruction wrought on the orcs. "That... was... AWESOME!" Hefting the head of her hammer, she takes her position at the head of the central opening [AG24] and waits for the orcs to come. "Come on, ya little Mary's! Come get what's good for ya!"

Molly's crossbow pinked the lead charging orc, and it flinched as it got near the hole in the barrier. That flinch was enough to allow Yelena to crush its skull with her long hammer. The other was taken down by Quill, with a well-aimed shot to the throat. It tumbled to lay in a bloody heap in the growing pile of dead orcs before the barricades. Mariana moved to Frum, healing the worst of his wounds before preparing herself for the next wave.

The sounds of combat beyond the wall seemed to be growing louder, and the clash of steel rang out. However, you had more immediate problems as another wave of orcs made it through the portcullis. These were not hampered by the twisted metal or from the need to carry a battering ram. They rushed into the gap created by the boulder, trying to overwhelm the defenders with sheer numbers.

Two of the orcs held back, fizzing grenades in their hands. They threw them simultaneously. One bounced along the top of the barricade, ending up next to the horse, only a few feet from Storn. It sat there, its fuse hissing ominously. The other landed next to Sander. As the halfling watched, the flame disappeared inside the clay object and the grenade detonated. Sander shouted in pain as fire and projectiles both lashed into him. His body was flung into the barricade, and blood ran freely from both ears and his nose as he staggered to his feet. Yelena took part of the blast as well, sending her stumbling towards the oncoming orcs.

Round 13:

Sander and Yelena take 11 bludgeoning damage and 6 fire damage. Ref DC15 for half (5 and 3).

The orcs are through the gates!

OH NO! Sanders eyes grow wide in the split second he has as he sees the explosive's fuse run out.

The blast catches him full force, and he starts to see his life flash before his eyes for a moment -- a young halfling, whose parents thought the dubious safety of Trunau was remote enough to deter the slave catchers out of Cheliax, brought up at his father's knee learning about the strange flowers and herbs that grew in the largely barren land around them.

With a gasp, his eyes pop open and he realizes -- if only because of the pain from his smoking, blistering skin -- that he still lives. And while he lives, he can still protect Louly.

Can't. Let. Them. Get. Past. Me.

He cuts at the rope holding the last log before staggering back, still trying to get his bearings.

Cut rope, then move straight back 20 feet to AI-28.

As it starts to fog out of existence, the pony snorts at the fizzing thing close to it - and kicks it back to the Orcs! (DM allowing, that is.)

Molly, on the other hand, is running over to Sander as quickly as she can. "I can only do this for you once a day. Sorry," she says as she carefully lays one hand on his shoulder - and some small measure of healing energy trickles into the Halfling.

Molly - no, and no. A horse isn't intelligent enough to do that. If it were on the ground he might stomp on it, but a fizzing thing 3 feet off the ground would likely cause an untrained horse to run away.

Storn sees Molly healing Sander and realises that he is very quickly being overrun by orcs.

The enormous warrior whips about the glaive, trying to slice up as many orcs as he can.

"OWWWWW!!!!" Yelena clutches her arm as flame and shrapnel tear into her flesh. She tries to make some room from the encroaching orcs [5-foot step to AH25] and swings her hammer. The pain and shock of the blast mar her hammer swing, sending it careening wide from her target.

Storn shattered an orcs kneecap as it tried to move past Frum, then slashed its throat as the big warpriest moved to hack down the orc crawling over the barricade beside him. He turned as the horse disappeared, just in time to see the fuse disappear into the grenade laying on top of the barricade. Wood splinters and fiery chaos flew everywhere as the grenade exploded, and Storn was rocked back by the explosion. One of the orcs near him took a wooden splinter the size of a long dagger through the thigh, and fell to the ground clutching at the bleeding wound.

Frum dropped his crossbow and took up his sword, neatly cutting down one of the attacking orcs. Yelena, still dazed from the explosion, weakly swung at another, but the orc turned it aside with his wooden shield. In return, it swung its sword, but the dwarf maiden managed to block it as she stepped backwards.

Sander, knowing he was ill suited for front line fighting, used his small dagger to cut the last of the lashings holding the second log to the barricade. The log rolled free, and he watched in fascination as the heavy thing rolled over two orcs before crashing into the southern gate tower. He ran back away from the remaining orcs to a place of relative safety, with Molly rushing over to heal some of his wounds. Her touch cleared the ringing in his ears, and closed some of the cuts, but the burns still stung and pained him.

As the orcs attacked, another of the clay spheres was hurled into the mix, coming to land just beside Storn and Frum (AD25). Its fuse hissed wildly as it burned towards the orb.

Round 14:

Storn and Yelena get AoOs.

If Storn makes a DC16 Ref save, he can halve 11 bludgeoning and 6 fire damage

Storn stepped back and scooped up the fizzing grenade, flinging it as far as he can from the barricade. It exploded moments later harmlessly by the wall, making all the defenders sigh in relief. Yelena took the extra healing from Mariana, then stepped back and crushed one of the attacking orcs. The other orc cut deeply into the bard's arm with his curved blade. Sander and Quill neatly took out another of the orcs, leaving only a few left from the heavy assault. Both of the grenade throwing orcs tossed flasks of fire into the mix now, splashing Sander and Yelena, and Omast and Storn, but not doing much more than scorching the ground beside them.

Round 15:

Yelena, Sander, and Storn each take 1 fire damage.

Mariana takes 9 damage
