Quill helpls sort the loot and tend the burned and is ready to move on.
"Yeah, stupid giant," Quill says, trying to get his mind off Molly's lips. "I...I...I think we should move on. Do you guys think the beacon is lit enough or should we throw more halflings on the fire?"

Sander Thistlewight |

Nodding thanks to Storn for the acid flask, Sander smiles ruefully at Quill's jest.
"I regret I have but one skin to give for my city, but since there are no other halflings around, that'll have to be good enough."
He looks around wearily to see where needs their help next.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10

Storn of Gorum |

Storn lets out a groan of relief as he downs the tiny potion, tossing the vial over his shoulder. His wounds partially heal and the grumpy, badly injured holy man now just looks grumpy.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
"Right? So that beacon blew up. Where's the next one? I forget what we're supposed to do now."

DM Bigrin |

Standing about a large green fire in the middle of a battle was a good way to get noticed, and you worriedly look about for the next challenge. Fortunately, the death of the giant and the charge of Kurst's outriders seemed to have driven most of the orcs in the Lower City away. Those that could make it up through Trunau had already done so, and those still outside the wooden palisades of the outer curtain wall were in disarray.
Staring around, Sander sees something he had missed before. A five-foot tall painting of a white sword reflected the burning beacon's light only a little to the side of the hole the giant had carved into the hill behind the waterfall.
I would suggest you make use of any CLW wands you may have on you. Some of you look as if you might keel over if a gnat farted on you

Quill knocks and arrow and keeps an eye out while the party heals and recovers.
"Careful now. I hear the gnats around here are particularly flatulent," Quill warns.

Storn of Gorum |

Storn stomps his way over to Mariana. The enormous, stinking, bedraggled warpriest is a mess of wounds, with blood seeping through his scale mail.
"Don't worry, most of this blood isn't mine. I could do with another stab of that wand though. Or two."

Mariana Trellis |

Mariana begins doling out healing to all.

1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9 Yelena at 21/22 Charges 23/50

Storn of Gorum |

Hurray for Mariana!
Fully healed, Storn takes a brief, solitary moment to feel very, very tired. Then he realises there's stuff to kill.
"Onwards!" he roars. "There is more smashing to be done and Gorum never tires of breaking some orc faces."

Mariana Trellis |

Mariana nods and gives her what she can.
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
"There...that should fix you up..." when she left the Grand Lodge, she never thought that her first big adventure would mostly be waving around a healing wand.

![]() |

In the future, we might keep more momentum if everyone just heals themselves and lets whomever has the wand(s) track charges. We've lost some momentum in the healing that we could be making fun of Yelena dour, frumpy, and grumpy anvil god.
Quill keeps watch as others heal. He worries less about flatulent gnats than he did a moment ago. Soon he will be ready to move on.

Mariana Trellis |

"I wish there was a way we could supply up before doing more of this. I feel like we are low on firepower..."

![]() |

Quill looks at Yelena for leadership.
"Maybe we should go find Kurst and find out what he needs. We've done what he asked: not died, rescued citizens, and lit the fires. We could be done here," Quill asks, full of thought. "Maybe the battle is over and we've won! We're heroes, probably."
Marigold Pottersmoot! I hope she made it! Wait until she hears what I did. I fought.

Storn of Gorum |

Storn grunts over to Quill.
"Onwards then. We've 'lit' the beacon."
Back to Kurst!

Yelena Shukhov |
"What was that!?" Yelena throws up a cautionary hand and strains her eyes trying to peer into the cave.
Anything with my darkvision?
"Quill, we need a reconnoiter of the cave entrance. Pray to your god or goddess or whatever for good luck and take an arcing vector of approach. If you have to do some sort of little dance to make them happy, then hurry it up. Sander, do you have anything that can produce a very bright light? A flare of some sort. I will have this extra grenade ready, but those without darkvision may have difficulty with targeting. The rest should space out and hug the earth. If another giant comes out, I don't want us bunched together. Storn, front and center, big man. Take a knee and try to stay low." Having said that, Yelena gets behind the wood pile. Her longhammer was rather difficulty to hide without cover...

Storn of Gorum |

Storn blinks at the scream, and at Yelena's quick series of orders. Shrugging his big plate shoulders, he picks up a rock, casts a light spell on it, and throws it into the cave. He faces the cave and calls out in a powerful voice, despite the incredibly long day.
"THE LORD IN IRON DEMANDS MORE BLOOD THIS DAY AND WE ARE PROTECTORS OF THIS TOWN! COME OUT AND DECLARE YOURSELF!"
Storn grips his sword, snarling.
Not sure where the cave is on the map. Storn wouldn't make the challenge until the rest of the group is nearby and ideally ready for the fight.

DM Bigrin |

Sander Thistlewight |

"Maybe that's where they're hiding? It doesn't make sense they'd mark it with a sword, but nothing about those swords make sense," Sander says.
"Maybe we should go in there?"
He doesn't sound happy about his own suggestion but starts untying his boots and hiking up his pants as he gets ready to wade into the water.

![]() |

Quill rebuffs, thinking this is no time for spelunking.
"Why would we care about the cave? The battle is up here! There are still attackers and wounded," Quills explains. "Our duty is to our people. We should regroup, find Kurst, and see what needs to be done."

DM Bigrin |

An explosion rang out from the direction of the hole in the cliff, and a gout of dust and debris erupted from the hole. Whoever or whatever was in the cave was using explosives right beneath the Hopespring itself! That spring was the well of life for the citizens of Trunau, and its presence had been the lifeline through many orcish raids. If the orcs managed to cut the spring off, the results could be disastrous for the town.

Storn of Gorum |

Storn staggers back as an explosion sounds from the cave.
"Well that looks promising. In!"
Storn stalks into the cave, keeping his sword held high.

DM Bigrin |

Sander Thistlewight |

Sander, waiting for Yelena and Storn to take the lead, follows, moving as quickly as the bigger folk for a change. Advance straight into the cavern, but stay behind the advance folks.
He mentally goes over his inventory: 4 flasks of acid, handful of tindertwigs, 3 orc bombs, 3 containers of alchemist's fire. I hope that's enough...

Storn of Gorum |

Casting light on his own sword, Storn keeps pace with Yelena as they head into the cavern.
"Be wary, it's more fun to smash than be smashed. That's a rough translation of the third epic of the Gorumskagat. "
Moving to I24.

Mariana Trellis |

Mariana has an Ioun Torch! Also...work + holidays = long and exhausting, so please excuse my slowness over the next 6 weeks or so!
Getting her bow ready, she takes it all in, her wide eyes running from image to image. "This is exciting..." she takes a deep breath as she looks around, "And terrifying."

DM Bigrin |

The light illuminate the darkness of the tunnel and a narrow swath into the cave beyond. Storn, Quill, and Mariana each put up light courses of their own, filling the tunnel with light. In the dust and rubble, it is easy to see that a number of footprints had moved through here, though the settling dust obscured their numbers.
As Storn and Yelena pushed past the rubble at the neck of the tunnel, they were met by a shower of javelins, and a chorus of shouts. One of the javelins sank into Storn's left leg, the neck of the blade bending at a weird angle and tripping Storn up slightly. Four orcs leaped from where they had hidden in ambush, curved swords flashing in the light.

The ambushing orcs had the ambush turned on them when you charged forward instead of retreating. One got a faceful of acid, the searing liquid splashing into its howling mouth. The gurgling was horrid, but it still pressed forward, stumbling slightly as it met Molly's eye. Another took a heavy blow from Storn's greatsword before engaging the man with another orc. Yelena's strike missed, and left her open for a pair of orcs to come at her as well.
