"Good show," Molly says as she loads, cranks and fires again. "Nice thinking."

Shot for round 3: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22 for 1d8 ⇒ 1 damage. CRIT THREAT! Attack roll to confirm: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12 for double damage.

Don't forget that a critical doesn't double (or triple) the damage you roll with the first die. It doubles (or triples) the number of dice you roll.

"I'm going to knock out these logs as soon as they make a nice line. I like to think they will make a sound like grapes under a rolling pin. I hope I'm not disappointed."

It would be difficult to "half cut" the log ties without blowing your chance at catching the orcs.

The orcs at the gate managed to get a few of the portcullis bars pushed down enough to squeeze through. A handful managed to make it through before one of Quill's arrows took it through the throat. A small explosion behind the gates blocked the entrance with green- and gray-skinned bodies.

The half-dozen that made it through charged the barricade, a gleam of fury in their eyes.

Sander moves up to the barrier, tossing one of his newly acquired flasks of alchemist fire toward one of the charging orcs.

"For Trunau! For Louly!" he shouts!

Move to AH-24; throw at orc at AF-18
alchemist's fire (touch), -6 for range: 1d20 + 5 - 6 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 6 = 9
Damage (fire damage): 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
Splash damage to every creature within 5 feet: 4

If it misses: 1d8 ⇒ 5 it hits AF-16, doing 4 points of fire damage to all within 5 ft.

Alchemist's fire:

A direct hit deals 1d6 points of fire damage. Every creature within 5 feet of the point where the flask hits takes 1 point of fire damage from the splash. On the round following a direct hit, the target takes an additional 1d6 points of damage. If desired, the target can use a full-round action to attempt to extinguish the flames before taking this additional damage. Extinguishing the flames requires a DC 15 Reflex save. Rolling on the ground provides the target a +2 bonus on the save. Leaping into a lake or magically extinguishing the flames automatically smothers the fire.

Miss:
If you miss the target (whether aiming at a creature or a grid intersection), roll 1d8. This determines the misdirection of the throw, with 1 falling short (off-target in a straight line toward the thrower), and 2 through 8 rotating around the target creature or grid intersection in a clockwise direction. Then, count a number of squares in the indicated direction equal to the range increment of the throw. After you determine where the weapon landed, it deals splash damage to all creatures in that square and in all adjacent squares.

Mariana curses herself for not having more preparation that she could use. She would remember this next time there was a siege. Preparation was always key. Future. She had to have a future first. And needed to ensure Trunau did, as well.

Moving forward a bit, she draws her bow and lets an arrow fly at the lead orc. This is not what I am made for. I have to find a better way...

Sander's bomb flew through the air to land in the middle of the oncoming orcs. Three of them were splashed by the flames and severely injured. One of them, a hulking brute with an eyepatch, took Mariana's crossbow bolt tot he chest and collapsed. The others ran on, ignorign Molly's and Frum's crossbow bolts as they whizzed harmlessly by. Yelena's blow was awkward and easily turned by the lead orc. A loud thunk sounded as the glaive in Sotrn's hands bit cleanly through one of the supporting ropes tying a large log to the barricade.

Sounds of battle came from somewhere beyond the walls, but it seemed distant and unimportant compared to the latest flood of attackers. Four orcs managed to make it through, followed by a fifth. This wave of attackers fared no better than the previous one. One went down with another of Quill's arrows in its chest, and the other two were felled by defensive blows from Storn and Yelena. The one in the back fumbled with something from a pouch, shaking its head slightly as it met Molly's eye. Frum fired one of his reloaded heavy crossbows, but the bolt sailed harmlessly past the remaining orc.

Whatever the orc was holding suddenly sparked and fizzed, and he ran forward and hurled it at the barricade. The object bounced from one of the slats to land just in front of the barricade, and its fizzing could be heard over the roar of the horde of orcs beyond the walls. Sander, digging through Quill's pouch for the rest of the alchemist's fire flasks, turned slowly to regard the object as it sailed through the air. "Uh oh."

From beyond the gate, you can see a large group of orcs hoisting a battering ram and rushing for the ruined portcullis.

Could Storn feasibly bat the explody thing away with his glaive?

Not really. Think about trying to reach over a 5' wide, 3-4' tall desk or couch, and hit something with a stick that is laying right against the base. You'd have to lean way over, or even climb over to get an angle on it.
