Everyone gathered at the Ramblehouse to report what they had learned, and it was nearly time for supper as things got sorted out. Looking at the guest log once more, it was clear that "human male" had been written in Cham's own hand, making it evident that the man had simply refused to tell her his name.
As Vashta and Quill were talking about what they learned from Agrit, Yelena recognized the name of Omast Frum. He is a Patrol Sargent in the militia, and a (mostly) recovering alcoholic. It seems odd that Vashta would say that he was investigating with Rodrik, since as far as you know, Rodrik severely disliked the man. Rumor has it that Patrol Leader Jagrin asked Frum to take care of his boys when they joined the militia, and Frum overprotected them to the point of never letting them leave the barracks. That was years ago, but the hard feelings still remained.

Molly Blackfoot |

"Come on, dear," Molly says in a soothing tone as she helps Cham back to her feet. "You're not to blame for any of what happened, and I'll say so to anyone who asks, yeah? Seems to me, what you need is a decent meal and a decent cuppa - or maybe summat stronger. WOuld you do us the honour of joining us for supper? You can have the staff run and fetch for you for one evening."

Yelena Shukhov |
"I know Omast Frum. He is a patrol sergeant in the militia, and supposed to be a recovering al..co..hol..ic. Sorry, that word doesn't exist in Dwarven and sometimes I mispronounce it." She rubs her chin in thought. "It seems odd that you would say he was investigating with Rodrik, since Rodrik couldn't stand him. Really, really didn't like him. Rumor has it that Patrol Leader Jagrin asked Frum to take care of his boys when they joined the militia, and Frum over-reacted by never letting them leave the barracks. This was years ago, mind you, but there are still some hard feelings around."

Quill perks up as Molly mentions the barracks.
"Oh yeah, I know the barracks. We could look there. Let's do that!" The Elf jumps to his young feet.
"Let's go find Frum."
If other agree, Quill will lead the way to the barracks.

Mariana Trellis |

"Quill, I am as anxious as you are to get to this, but need to be careful. Anytime you are dealing with higher ups, it is something that you must be tactful about. We should plan what we wish to ask and who we wish to ask him these things before we leave. Otherwise, someone may say something...out of line...and we are without whatever he might know. That said...we should figure out what he does in his free time since alcohol isn't an option anymore..." She trails off and practically disappears for a few minutes, discussing with the local patrons and trading stories for information.

Storn of Gorum |

Storn nods his agreement, waves to Cham, and stomps off after Quill.

DM Bigrin |

Cham perked up at the mention of supper. "Here, now, you can't be running off before supper. There's a pig's been roasting all day, and duck. Go wash up, and I'll have some platters out on your tables in a bit."
Cham rushed off, giving Molly a peck on the cheek as she went. Molly's idea to check out he barracks seemed a good one, but one best reserved until after the food has been consumed.

![]() |

Quill wolfs down the meal with one knee giggling with nervous energy...ready to get moving. He enjoys his meal and offers a few coins to Cham to pay. He finishes quickly, wanting to be out the door.
"I'm going to stop by home; I'll meet you at the barracks soon, right?" Quill says, trying to get a load off his mind.
If allowed to go, Quill will run home and explain to Mr. Cavinton what's happened and what he will be doing. He is certain his foster 'father' will understand, but didn't want the man to worry unduly about Quill.
When he has explained things, he will meet the group at the barracks, waiting outside. With that worry off his mind, he is much more calm.

Storn of Gorum |

"Who am I to say no to food?" says Storn. Washing up is another matter entirely, but he manages to take off his gauntlets and settle in at a table.

Vashta Denaria |

Vashta digs in, smiling at the quality fare she's become accustomed to at the boardinghouse.
She eats neatly, with little wasted motion or excess, patting her lips clean with a napkin afterward and then tucking it back into a pocket.
"Ready?" she asks as soon as she's finished, not caring whether the others have finished or not.

Mariana Trellis |

Shaking her head as she looks at Vashta, "We are having a meal with Cham...let's enjoy it before we get back to business. Goodness knows, it isn't every day you can stop and enjoy a meal with good company."

Molly Blackfoot |

"Hear, hear!" Molly says in a hearty tone, and she claps Mariana on the shoulder. "When there's a fine meal in front of you, you don't just wolf it down and run away, you savour it. To do less is just plain rude. I'll have the duck, though - can't stand pork. Too greasy for my tastebuds. I'll take a piece of it to go, though, if our gracious lady host doesn't mind. My cousin Jenk always eats in the barracks, the lazy git; I'd like to get some properly-prepared food in him, if at all possible."

The dining room grew noisy as more and more people entered, intent on devouring some of Cham's good home cooking. The serving staff were busy filling mugs and plates, running back and forth, and generally enjoying the press of patrons. The four large common tables filled up quickly, as did the seats at both bars.
Roast duck and pork were served, alongside roasted potatoes and root vegetables, fresh bread, and a hard but flavorful cheese. Ale and wine both sloshed freely, and though everyone else was paying the going rate, Cham refused your coin, saying "This is on me, for Roddy."
As the meal wound down, Quill excused himself early, rushing off to talk with his family about what he was doing, and why he had taken off so quickly this morning.
You leave the Ramblehouse, intent on getting home quickly. Dusk is coming on quickly, and as you pass an alleyway, the glaring sun prevents you from seeing all but the barest of movements. A large form lunges out of the alleyway and sinks a knife into your right kidney. You fall to the ground, bleeding heavily. The attacker slid the knife back into his cloak and moved off nonchalantly, heading for the Ramblehouse.
You have taken 9 damage, and are at 0 hit points. Your falling to the ground may have just saved your life.
The others were finishing up their meals, when the front doors banged open. A large man with dirty blond matted hair stood in the doorway. He scanned the room and his eyes settled on your table. Almost at the same time as he stepped into the room, pairs of people at the tables to either side of you stand, pull strange looking cylinders from their belts.
With a slick of the wrist, the cylinders spat a glowing blue liquid which immediately hardened into crystalline blades. The attackers wasted no time in putting them to use! Despite the close nature of the attacks, or maybe because of it, only Mariana's and Vashta's attackers managed to get a solid strike in.
Wow, you guys bombed your perception checks. At least they rolled bad on the attacks?

"Gods be praised it's a miracle!" Storn belches, throwing a rib bone over his shoulder before he roars to his feet, yanking out his greatsword.

He lays quiet, trying to think of any reason why anyone would want him dead.

Molly's spell goes off, felling some of the Ramblehouse patrons, but leaving both enemies standing. Beside her, Mariana lashed out with a dagger, cutting a thin gash in her opponent's right arm. Their foes struck out again with the strange blades, one catching Molly a decent blow.
Vashta was in dire straights, having two of the enemies on her now. Her spell fizzled on dry lips as she desperately tried to keep away from the flashing blades. She managed to avoid being hit, at the cost of her spell. Beside her, Yelena popped up and lashed out with her spiked gauntlets, items she rarely took off during the day. Her blow connected solidly with her attacker, breaking the woman's jaw and sending her reeling. Yelena wasn't prepared for the blade to swing back, however, and it caught her a solid blow on the left side.

Mariana's spell caught the two opponents on her side of the table by surprise. Both managed to keep their feet, but the one nearest Storn was concentrating too hard on not falling down. The big man, yelling loudly, nearly cut the attacker in half as he swept his greatsword across. Bystanders flew in all directions, trying to avoid the man's wildly sweeping blows.
Molly and Vashta both ducked under the table, where the chair legs and the table itself provided cover from the strange blades that came thrusting after them. Yelena took another light hit, now ganged up on by two opponents, and unable to land a solid blow of her own.
Quill's shouting brought a man running over, dressed in the robes of an acolyte of Iomedae. in fact, it was the very one that he had spoken to earlier at Sanctuary. "What is it? What...oh dear Lady! Abide a moment!" Reaching out to Quill, the acolyte chanted a spell and healing energies flooded into Quill's body, mending the ruptured kidney and sealing over some of the worst of the damage.

Molly tossed a curse towards the man in front of Mariana, hoping that it would make it easier for the bard to defend herself. Then, she loaded her crossbow and began to search for a target. Mariana threw her last dagger, grimacing as the steel went wide. The man grinned at her, raising his blade for the attack. His grin was interrupted when Storn swept over and took the arm off at the shoulder. Storn's blade continued into the attacker's chest and the man dropped to the ground.
Yelena swung wildly at her opponent, forcing the woman to back off enough that Vashta was able to get a good spell in. From the ground, the woman lashed out at Yelena's knees, but the dwarf nimbly hopped over the blow. As the woman tried to stand, Yelena got another swing in of her own.
