Good lord man! Glad to see all is well. I'm in the far frozen north and would be pretty put out by that snowfall regardless. In NC that must have shut everything down.

PFS is my drug of choice.

Quill, you were cued in in the last Ramblehouse spoiler.

Which tables are you GMing? I had a RL game that took up much of Saturday, but the wife gave her blessing for me to go this weekend too. So, I'll be there for a session or two.

Quill, can you get your crunch in your character sheet so that I can pull info? Specifically, I need your perception and initiatives ASAP.

I need to update my gear, DM, but beyond that:

Session 1: Paths we choose
Session 2: Blood Under Absolom
Session 4: Which ever special ends up getting run

Everything else I am running is full...not even my wife could get space at my tables...though she may end up not going.

What times? I am trying to work around my wife's schedule.

Tanner, I finally realized why every time I see your avatar, I get this premonition of doom. Slugged any little old ladies recently?

And Mariana, it is official. I have Saturday to play. I'll be there from 2-midnight.

Whaaaaaat? That was forever ago. I had to comb through a lot of posting history to find that game. Three years ago! Which is literally 'forever' in internet-time.

Don't worry, you won't see such tactics from Yelena. It's not in her nature. Although that little old lady was exploiting orphans to steal for her, and my character was a crusty mercenary, and the GM totally dared me to backhand her... Well, I can't make promises if the little old ladies are orcs, but I seriously doubt that situation will present itself.

Hah! She was totally asking for it.

+1. Quill too. As long as it's in character, I'll put up with a lot.

So, this happened to me at the Con on Saturday (the end of the last game).

Quote:

We watched from a hundred feet away as the minotaur bore down on our halfling leader with his overly large axe. Genera, whip in hand, lashed out and managed to pluck the weapon from its grasp. Her cry of triumph was short lived as the bull-man gored her deeply with its horns. Genera fell, and with her our hopes of making this a fast an uneventful conflict.

The rest of my party rushed forward, leaping over or into the fast-moving stream that separated us from our fallen leader. But an enchanter never swims.

To the side was a wooden plank bridge, easily wide enough to cross safely. It would provide me easy access to the far side, and get me close enough to the minotaur to dominate its mind.

I concentrated on the arcane energies and steadied mind for the exertions to come. Enchantment was a far subtler discipline than Evocation or Conjuration. Let those other wizards make loud banging noises, or summon elephants into thin air. I worked on the mind s of those I chose to call foe. The subtle art required more concentration and focus, but it could stop a raging minotaur in its tracks.

I was halfway across the plank, preparing my spell, when the thing rocked under my feet. Looking at the water below me, I had time for a single thought, and it was discouragingly of bovine excrement.

The water closed over my head, and I realized that my childhood memories of frolicking the lakes and streams of my youth were long out of date. Struggling in the water, it took me nearly half a minute to work out the correct combination of arm and leg strokes to break the surface.

Pulling myself up on the bank I originally started from, not fifteen feet from the traitorous bridge, I looked across to see my compatriots in a frenzied celebration. The minotaur was dead, and Genera was being healed of her wounds.

I steadily walked across the bridge, waiting until I was on the far side to begin the lengthy process of magically drying and cleaning my clothes. I looked up to see the smirk on our barbarian's face. When she asked why I didn't just simply swim to this side of the stream, since I was already in the water, I simply replied, with all the dignity I could muster, "An enchanter never swims...unless he has to."

lol!

BTW, I am going to houserule "aiding the beast". When multiple PCs are performing a skill check that can be aided, I'll use the PC with the highest roll as the base, then the others as aid rolls.

...

So...your party was fighting a bullman near the side of a bridge while you watched from the water?

That was...

Ledge End...waitforit...Dairy!

Imagine a cavern with a stream running through it. At the start of the fight, my party was on the west side, about 60 feet from the water. Our halfling leader (who had split from the party earlier) was fighting the mino on the east side, about 20 feet from the water.

Round 1, my whole party rushes forwards, some into the water, some just to the edge, based on movement speed. Round 2, I start to walk across the bridge as my teammates all jump the stream or swim through it. Rounds 3-5 I spend gurgling while my mates kill the mino.

Round 6 I come up for air and pull the whole "wet cat" routine.

It was hilarious and awful at the same time.

And yes, that was an awesome pun up of the situation

Please post your actions as clearly as possible for combat. I have a grid up for you to call out squares for movement. I'll try and keep track of hp loss per combat, but please be diligent about updating your profiles for AC and HP. I'll go off what is there, so don't complain about dying if you don't reflect that 10 points of healing you got last thursday in your profile.

Question? Let me know.

Curious: Does standing from a chair provoke? This a bit rough for poor Mariana.

I'll go with casting Sleep. I'll count on you guys to pull the baddies off of me if it doesn't work - but I'm still yelling for the guards. :p

I'll rule that standing from a chair does not provoke in this scenario. You guys are at a disadvantage as it is :p

Yell, then cast. Got it!

Terry Pratchett passed away today.

Not due to suicide, but due to Alzheimer-related complications.
At least he leaves us before the disease could steal his mind away.

Rest in peace, Sir Terry.

I don't think I've mentioned this before, but for paladins' sake I tend to count -1 hp as dead for enemies, unless you specifically state that you want one alive. It stops a lot of moral quandaries that otherwise hold up the game.

So, the shout of "We want one for questioning" is enough to preserve one...assuming you don't crit them for 20 points of damage when they are at 1 hp ;-)

It's a good rule. Quill, for one, won't be mourning the deaths of these assassins.

My first PbP that I played in ground to a halt because the paladin refused to kill anyone who wasn't actively threatening someone. So, -1 hp and we had to sit around. There were other things too, but that one sticks in my mind.

Of course, the stark contrast is the LG cleric who would attack and kill anything that pinged as evil. Is that bandit evil? Kill him! Is that shopkeeper evil? Kill him and loot his stall. Is that innkeeper evil? Blood for the blood god (or some such).

Yelena is far more likely to judge mens rea than capability. Besdies, Truanau is a frontier town, and frontier justice is rough justice.

If they try to kill you, they're gonna get a smacking at the very least.

If they surrender or you need some info, you take 'em alive. *ribbit*

His Stormlight Archive is awesome, IMO. Perhaps my favorite series these days.

I wasn't quite as big a fan of his other work, though I just picked up "Elantris" from the library.

I wasn't impressed with Elantris. Stormlight archive on the other hand? Still thinking about it.

Having a really rough week at work combined with some unexpected stuff has made me slow. Sorry about that, I will probably be slow through the end of this week, but it should get better by Monday.

No worries, man. Thanks for letting us know.

Just to keep the IC thread cleaner, I'll put up the potential leads here:

1) The Sanctuary High Priestess was not there when you visited yesterday. The acolyte suggested you try back the next afternoon if you want to talk to her.

2) Omast Frum may or may not know anything about Rodrick's demise. He was listed on special duty, but no one seems to know where he is.

3) Follow up on the missing half-orc apprentice.

4) Follow up on the heavily tattooed half-orc that hired the assassins.

That's everything that you guys have surmised in the last 2 days that you haven't fully tracked down, based on your posts.

Thanks!

I feel like we've not followed up on the leads about the apprentice, but the priestess should be there when we get back, so maybe start there?

That would assume that Storn tailors his personality to the company and situation. ;)

Please pardon my interruption in posting. Our puppy found a leftover Reese's egg from Easter and ate it - both candy and wrapper entirely. He was vomiting for two days before the wrapper came back up. He's so little that we had to watch him constantly for dehydration and ensure he did not suddenly keel over. He is fine now. :/

Glad to hear that everything came out okay (pun intended). My wife's a vet, and I hear all the stories about animals that eat things they shouldn't.
