Kramac, it's an individual check for each.
You can't take 10 on aids checks. Also I've ruled hard on no aids for appraise, and most knowledge or intelligence based checks. My train of thought is for certain skills, you should individually know it, if you didn't something else from someone shouldn't be able to let you somehow realise it.
Results of Karsa's checks added.
Sceptre of Alkhet: "Cheaply made" 500gp
Sceptre of ???: "nothing" 100gp
Sceptre of Iltorian. "Deep respect for" 2600gp
Sceptre of Osomi "Strong emotions of love" 3700gp
Sceptre of Kiranna: “Strong emotions, arguably the most respected" 2100gp
Sceptre of Elea: "beautiful feelings, but superficial" 700gp
Sceptre of Shasha "Emotionally neutral " 2100gp
Martha von Lucius |
Even though she trusts her other party members to accurately appraise both the emotional and monetary value of each scepter, she feels a need to add her two cents.
"This was underwater", she says, pointing at the scepter whose owner is unknown. "Rusted, ruined. Can't know what it used to be."
Kramac |
It seems like the actual value of the scepters more or less lines up with the man's feelings about his wives... the curious bit is that his own scepter is between his most hated wife, and that of Shasha. I'd expect a man that would build such an intricate tomb for himself would place himself at the top... which again begs the question, are we evaluating these scepters on the worth of the people in the merchant's view, or the actual worth of the scepters?
Kiboko |
"Perhaps the man hated himself? In which case, we should anticipate that he may have willingly embraced undeath."
Kiboko casts a Magic Fang upon Mvumbu and draws his enchanted Greatsword.
Ingrge |
Ingrge ponders a moment before adding, "I recall the words from the columns upon entering this tomb stated the importance of the number seven with Alkhet always in the highest position...regardless of its value, I'd place his highest and then the other sceptres according to their values..."
Juhnavi Ahliwylia |
Juhnavi would have of course shared her readings of the emotions associated with each scepter with the others.
"I'm not sure I agree. A lot of people who surround themselves with wealth and power and those who are obliged to flatter and support them have a secret fear of their own inadequacy. Of course, they cover that up with a display of ego," Juhnavi says, scratching her head. "I don't feel any sense of pride or self-worth when I touch the scepter associated with his name. The emotions associated with the others are much more positive, except for this one," she continues, indicating the '???' scepter with the last clause.
Kramac |
So Flynn disabled the trap? If so, since we have two possibilities, lets just try them both and see what happens.
Juhnavi Ahliwylia |
"I'm not sure you're wrong. But the trap is disabled, yes? You were able to stop it? If so, there won't be much of a problem if we are wrong. The only thing is, completing this puzzle may open the door immediately, and it may be that we should prepare a bit first."
Junavi will go to the door and cast Clairvoyance with the intent of having her point of vision appear 10 feet past the door. (The spell says you have to be either familiar with the location or it must be an obvious one -- in this case, there's obviously some space on the other side of the door, so hopefully 10 feet in will still be an open space and not inside a wall. Juhnavi has darkvision so she should be able to see even if there is no light source.)
Kiboko |
Kiboko prepares for the door's opening...
Karsa Ibn Jad |
Karsa makes sure he is positioned on the Throne, it being his natural location.
He has reactivated his wand of heightened awareness, the other buffs should I think still be running.
Just a moment, before you open it up I will stick a ward on the lot of you. He moves between the group, touching hem each in turn. There, you are warded against fire again so none of you will need to whinge if I need to catch you in a fireball yes?
Casting communal resist fire on everyone, all get 20 fire resist. No I dont plan on fireballing you as 15d6+15 cuts through 20 resist pretty fast.
Kramac |
Always a fan of prebuffing, Kramac will cast heightened awareness and prot evil, followed by divine favor as soon as the throne is activated.
GM Batpony |
The intention of the trap is also to indicate to you which is in right and wrong places, in absence of that (confirmed disabled), let's just say you were perceptive enough with combination of perception/spellcraft to see a few telltale signs that they are correct.
Through a series of trial and error, the group manages to identify most of the sceptres appropriate positions.
Place in order of "least to most valuable" on the altar, bolded are in correct spots.
Sceptre of ???: "nothing" 100gp
Sceptre of Elea: "beautiful feelings, but superficial" 700gp
Sceptre of Shasha "Emotionally neutral " 2100gp
Sceptre of Kiranna: “Strong emotions, arguably the most respected" 2100gp
Sceptre of Iltorian. "Deep respect for" 2600gp
Sceptre of Osomi "Strong emotions of love" 3700gp
Sceptre of Alkhet: "Cheaply made" 500gp
I figured you would have realised that you only need to switch the last two around, but I'm pausing here to allow RP opportunity, any other prep, and also because i'm in a rush to work!
Juhnavi Ahliwylia |
After they arrange it in order of apparent monetary value of components, and nothing happens, Juhnavi inclines her head at Ingrge. "I think you were right about this badirchand putting himself first above all others. Let's try that way."
GM Batpony |
After a few iterations, with Karsa sitting patiently, on the throne, finally on the sceptres fall into place. The throne sinks into the floor slowly, engulf by the sand, and the wall behind the throne also changes. The door slowly swings open to reveal a large chamber made mostly from the same sandstone that dominates this place. A strip of black marble runs from an altar on the east end of the room, through the floor, to a throne that sits on the west end of the chamber.
Btw, if Karsa unseated himself before 7 sceptres were place, the scepters would have flung themselves on of the altar.
The group then descends down into the darkness of the final unexplored chamber. But as soon as you step in, the covers of a few of the sarcophagi slowly shift as bandages hands pull themselves out. Four mummies emerge from their resting places.
Does Kiboko have heightened awareness going on? I wasn't sure but based on the rolls below, it's safe the say the mummy's act last. Mechanically i'll assume that it's practically impossible for you to perceive there's a mummy inside a nicely closed sarcophagi, and that for surprise round they used their action to open and stand up from their resting place.
Martha: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Ingrge: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Karsa: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (14) + 20 = 34
Kramac: 1d20 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 4 = 11
Kiboko: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Juhnavi: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Mummy: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Everybody is up! Kn. Religion to identify the creatures.
GM Batpony |
I need to add this Supernatural ability. As for who immediately needs to make the save, it is only the front of the line Martha, everyone else can make their saves accordingly as they reposition themselves into getting sight of the creature.
Despair: All creatures within a 30-foot radius that see a mummy must make a DC 21 Will save or be paralyzed by fear for 1d4 rounds. Whether or not the save is successful, that creature cannot be affected again by the same mummy’s despair ability for 24 hours.
Karsa Ibn Jad |
Karsa scurries into the room so he can see the enemy.
Religion, heroism: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20
Just tell me something interesting if that gets it
Hehe, you old bags of bones wont get me cackles Karsa as he hits the southern two with a burst of radiance.
Karsa is immune to fear so doesnt care about Mummy fear aura. Burst of Radiance does 5d4 ⇒ (1, 2, 4, 2, 1) = 10 damage automatically and forces a DC20 reflex save or be blinded for 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds. Karsa currently has 7 mirror images
Kramac |
Kn Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Jino has the small frame feat, which lets his squeeze without taking all the awful penalties (he still moves at half speed though), So Kramac will bring him along down the corridor.
Once the mummies pop up, Kramac will spur Jino along and move to attack the green one (waiting for Kasra to move first in case he wants to drop a fireball or something similar).
Jino needs to double move to make it to the mummy. Kramac will activate the +2 Dex animal focus, getting AC to 30.
Kramac will trip the mummy!
Trip! 1/2 bc of Tandem Trip, outflank, greater trip, divine favor, power attack: 1d20 + 12 + 4 + 4 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 12 + 4 + 4 + 3 - 2 = 34
Trip! 1/2 bc of Tandem Trip,outflank, greater trip, divine favor, power attack: 1d20 + 12 + 4 + 4 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 12 + 4 + 4 + 3 - 2 = 22
Kramac's AoO from Trip, outflank, paired opportunist, divine favor, power attack: 1d20 + 12 + 4 + 4 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 12 + 4 + 4 + 3 - 2 = 37
Damage, sneak attack, power attack, divine favor: 1d6 + 5 + 1d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 5 + (3) + 4 + 3 = 20
Kramac's AoO from fortuitous weapon, outflank, paired opportunist, divine favor, power attack: 1d20 + 12 + 4 + 4 + 3 - 2 - 5 ⇒ (14) + 12 + 4 + 4 + 3 - 2 - 5 = 30
Damage, sneak attack, power attack, divine favor: 1d6 + 5 + 1d6 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 5 + (2) + 4 + 3 = 17
Jino's AoOs:
AoO from Trip, power attack, outflank, paired opportunist: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 12 - 2 + 4 + 4 = 22
Damage: 2d6 + 10 + 6 ⇒ (6, 2) + 10 + 6 = 24
AoO from Kramac's Fortuitous AoO, power attack, outflank, paired opportunist: 1d20 + 12 - 2 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 12 - 2 + 4 + 4 = 33
Damage: 2d6 + 10 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 10 + 6 = 21
Edit: Adding Saves
Will Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Will Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
Will Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
Will Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
Disregard the above post- Kramac runs into the room and is paralyzed with fear. I'm not sure where I'll end up - I am probably on top of Martha when I see them, so not sure if you want to shunt me forward into the room or back out of the room.
Jino Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Jino Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
Jino Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Jino Will Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Jino is also paralyzed with fear.
Karsa Ibn Jad |
I havent fireballed as it felt like it would be dull to end the final encounter in one go. I try to make sure other people also get to play. I think you do need to make some mummy saves, if everyone ends up paralysed I may change my mind of course.
Kiboko |
If I can add another pre-opening buff, Kiboko casts Shield from his ioun stone.
Kiboko enters his animal rage, and advances. He catches sight of the mummies...
I assume 4 separate will saves?
will vs mummy 1, fear: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 25
will vs mummy 2, fear: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 13
will vs mummy 3, fear: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 27
will vs mummy 4, fear: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 16
GM reroll vs mummy 2: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 + 1 = 29
sight of the cyclops reroll vs mummy 4: 1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 16
Was worth a shot with the boon I think, but practically impossible to avoid paralysis vs four mummies, hopefully it'll be short.
fearful paralysis 2: 1d4 ⇒ 1
fearful paralysis 4: 1d4 ⇒ 3
Kramac has a Wand of Remove Fear - that might work to release us if someone can activate it?
Like Kramac, not sure where I am physically when paralysis kicks in? Would have advanced to cover Karsa and form a line with Kramac, Jino and Mvumubu, but would see the mummies before then I think.
Mvumbu |
Mvumbu tries to save her friend!
will vs mummy 1, fear: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 22
will vs mummy 2, fear: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 8
will vs mummy 3, fear: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 13
will vs mummy 4, fear: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 + 2 = 9
...and is frozen by supernatural terror as she glimpses the mummies!
fearful paralysis 2: 1d4 ⇒ 3
fearful paralysis 3: 1d4 ⇒ 2
fearful paralysis 4: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Kiboko |
Fireball them Karsa. Four paralysing auras in close quarters is deadly. At least 2 of those mummies need dropping before they can start freely coup-de-gracing us.
Kramac |
Kiboko is correct - the wand of fear should work to remove the paralysis as well. I didn't think it would initially, but after reading the spell it should do it. I wish I had realized that, I probably would have hung back and just use the wand to free people up as they got paralyzed before running in myself.
Durations for Jino:
1d4: 1d4 ⇒ 3
1d4: 1d4 ⇒ 4
1d4: 1d4 ⇒ 2
1d4: 1d4 ⇒ 2
For Kramac:
1d4: 1d4 ⇒ 1
1d4: 1d4 ⇒ 1
1d4: 1d4 ⇒ 1
Um... well that was lucky at least. Kramac is only out for 1 round.

No-one is wearing a Lesser Talisman of Freedom?. They are life savers for these sorts of situations.
Talismans are great, especially that one. Kiboko needs to get a few more of his weaknesses covered, and I think I may add that to the list. Spent all my gold from the last adventure on stuff for the hippo!
GM Batpony |
Sorry Juhnavi! Forgot about the clairvoyance, but 10 feet from the door would have still only have been corridor space.
Also, now that Kiboko mentioned it, I searched "Advanced Mummy and found a entry for the d20pfsrd, but relooking at the separate mummy and advance entries, realise that the earlier entry is not accurate. The Save DC is 18 and not 21. But it looks like that doesn't change the situation for those just paralysed.
Kramac |
If the save is only 18, Kramac will spend his folio reroll on the one he failed.
will save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
So looks like Kramac is ok now.
GM Batpony |
Karsa realises these mummy's are a little stronger than the usual. Advance template, the creatures are one of the deadliest undeads, able to instil fear as demonstrate by the four Pathfinders who now stand cold in the middle of the room. Mummy's are extremely weak to fire, and can pass a deadly disease if it wounds you. ]Also DR5/-

Ingrge, Martha, Juhnavi
Mummy Black -10 (Blinded x1), Green -10(Blinded x1), Blue -10(Blinded x1) Red -10
Kramac, your trip would have hit, and likely the AoO. In light of the situation, would you want to target the Red (not blinded Mummy)? You would lose your teamwork feat bonuses, let me know what the damage is post that.
Kramac |
Hitting red is fine. I only lose the sneak attack damage from not having those frats, so the damage would be 17 and 15.
GM Batpony |
Red is prone and injured badly, but not dead.
Kramac moves in and reads the situation, and adapts to try to give his paralyzed friends a fighting chance. Comically, he trips the mummy with the red headgear, causing her to fall back into the sarcophagus.
Karsa Ibn Jad |

During the round I'm paralyzed, Juhnavi will cast Lead Blades as a purely mental action -- unless I can cast Haste, which wouldn't require verbal or somatic components but does use a material component.
GM Batpony |
So I would argue that you need to be not paralyzed to access the material component, so Lead Blades is ok, no go for Haste.
With most of the Pathfinder paralyzed out of fear, the Mummies move forward to attack the abled. The black and green headgeared mummies attempt to take down Kramac! To the half-orcs' luck. Green provokes an AoO as he attempts to get up to attack Kramac.

Since we are in group initiative, I assume it's ok if Kasra delays before fireballing? I'm 100% ok with him doing it, but I'd like to unparalyze Jino so he can make his reflex save. I don't really want to move away because that would leave Kiboko unprotected and ripe for a Coup de Grace

Do your worst old man! Hahaha! As he talks Kramac sheaths his weapon, flicks his wrist, producing a wand. He activates it, supressing the fear on Jino, allowing the Rhino to attempt to avoid the blast. As Kasra completes his spell, Kramac raises his shield and Jino hunkers down as flame engulfs both of them. As the blast clears, Jino and Kramac stand, singed but largely unharmed, Kasra's protective barrier fading from sight once again.
If any of the mummies attack Kramac, Jino will use an AoO to bodyguard me, raising my AC by 2, to a total of 32.

With most of the team under some sort of paralyzing fear, Karsa turns to the mummies weakness to end the threat once and for all. The sorcerer stands stock still and draws on his innermost powers. Words tumble from his mouth, transforming themselves into fire and smoke which curls around him, coiling into an intensely burning ball of flame. He shouts and it hurtles to the far side of the room where it blossoms into an enormous ball of flame.
Jino and Kramac jump out of the way after holding the front line to protect the paralyzed troupe. They make it just in time to avoid most of the fire, but still fine themselves slightly burnt from the devastating heat.
On the other hand, before the creatures are even able to react to Juhnavi's attempt of parley, the fire overwhelms them and they being to burn all over. The mummies painful squeals echo the chambers as they slowly disintegrate, eventually leaving behind nothing but a burning red hot ashes.
The chamber free from danger, is ripe for plundering of all it's valuable artefacts. It would seem that Alkhet left behinf only his most valued possession within here. High valued gems, jewelry, silverware, and art objects, historical trinkets are scattered around the room. Magical items such as a dagger of venom, red dragon hide full plate, lesser metamagic rod of silent, dust of illusion, a golembane scarab, slippers of spider climb and a rod of the python are also found among the treasure. The glimmering gold sarcophagus and the canopic jars lined near it contains remains of presumably the long dead merchant.
After thoroughly examining and exploring the tomb, you are able to easily remove the artefacts and assist Jilarni in returning to Sothis with the additional camels of the no dead bandits.
On returning to the capital city, Venture-Captain Norden Balentiir is eager to hear their report and examine all that you have recovered. He is saddened to learn of the death of two of his members, but grateful that Jilarni survived. After cataloging all that was found, he sends a runner to the palace to inform the Ruby Prince of the success. Servants come to collect the artifacts shortly thereafter. Balentiir is quite pleased with your performance and invites all to stay for dinner so that he might hear more of their journey, the treacherous Alarka, and the dangers of the tomb…
