Dipping my toes into the water to check for players that may be interested in "Lost Mine of Phandelver", the D&D 5E Starter Set campaign. This is a great campaign to hop into D&D 5E if you've wanted to try it, and it's a great story to experience if you're a 5E veteran.
I'm a very story-driven GM (practically addicted to the narrative value PbP offers), so my obvious preference would be players who enjoy a healthy dose of role playing/character development mixed in with their combat, and are willing to write a "what", "how", and "why" in most posts. Consistency (at least once a day) would be expected, and those who have not played this campaign before would be preferred.
If you're interested in finishing this campaign, reply for now with your interest and a tentative character idea.
If there's enough interest, I'll follow up with more details.
Decimus Observet |
I'm thinking a Fire Genasi caster, obsessed with flame and thrill seeking.
Would you be open to allowing the Pyromancer sorcererous origin from Plane Shift: Kaladesh? It's just focused on fire magic without draconic or infernal components.
GM Barty |
Sounds like we have four interested so far! Leaving recruitment open for a bit to see if we can get a fifth, but if not we can press on with four.
Decimus, LazyFisherman, Murph and Virat, those all sound like excellent characters, feel free to create those and add them to the Discussion tab. We'll work together to get some adventure-specific bonds and backstories for each character.
For stat creation, Standard Array, Point Buy and Rolling are all acceptable, however, because rolling can result in some incredible stats, no re-rolling will be allowed if you choose that method.
If you're rolling for stats, roll the 4d6 six times here or Discussion.
Ren’Kel |
(LazyFisherman ->) This is Ren. I’ve typed up a backstory but I’m open to feedback and change where necessary.
The idea is that he’s a scrawny, weak, wood-elf. He’s skittish around people due to his past, and doesn’t have the highest self esteem. Shy and timid. It will be fun to see if he can come out of his shell and prove his tribe wrong.

It's hard not to look twice when a campaign uses rolling for scores. The surprise and challenge that come from unpredictable generation are often worth it. If you're still open for a fifth, let me roll some bones and see if inspiration strikes.
4d6 drop the lowest GOOOOOOOOO!
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 3, 1) = 8 7
4d6 ⇒ (1, 1, 4, 3) = 9 8
4d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 2, 2) = 15 13
4d6 ⇒ (6, 3, 2, 4) = 15 13
4d6 ⇒ (3, 1, 6, 3) = 13 12
4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 1, 1) = 10 9
Hmm. three +1's, two -1's and a -2? Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

I'll be right back. Link to a mythweavers sheet okay with you?

Table is full at this moment. We have:
Idrix Ashir - Fire Genasi Sorcerer
Ren'Kel - Elf Ranger? (actually not positive what the class is)
Gelin Brooklane - Half-Elf Bard
Rory Loudheim - Dwarf Cleric
Grognard Fuglsang - Half-Orc Monk
That's an interesting party if I've ever seen one. Once Gelin, Idrix and Grognard confirm their backstories, we will get underway!

@GM Barty: I'm getting Idrix's background together. An extremely ambitious bounty hunter, sees himself as the bane of criminals. Not for altruism, but because he wants people to have as high an opinion of him as he has of himself. Also, I think you missed this query:
Since there aren't any Genasi-specific racial feats, would you be willing to allow house ruled ones or repurposed racial feats from other races? Just thinking about future feat choices.
@LazyFisherman: You're welcome! I'm happy to spread handy knowledge.

Recruiting is open for a level 1 character, to replace our missing ranger!
This campaign is advanced daily, typically around 12pm, 5pm, and 11pm EST, but I give a full 24 hours before botting a character, and will not advance unless all players have had a chance to weigh in.
Standard Array, Point Buy, and Rolling are all accepted, but rolling must be done in this thread and there are no re-rolls.
Isthill |
Hmm, I wonder if I could do something impulsive and both apply for this game and roll my stats in order...
STR: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 3, 1) = 16 15
DEX: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 5, 2) = 14 13
CON: 4d6 ⇒ (4, 1, 5, 2) = 12 11
INT: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 3, 5) = 17 14
WIS: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 4, 3) = 19 16
CHA: 4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 5, 4) = 17 14
Well, then. Not limited too much with that array, to be sure. I'm not a huge fan of the ranger even though this is a decent setup for one. It seems like the party's pretty set up on melee, so I might lean into something with a bit more ranged + utility.
Gamze |
All right, I think Gamze is fully built, here. Her profile crashed on me while I was writing up the background so the new one is just her bullet points for now - I can expand on it a bit later. Let me know if I should make any changes or if I missed anything. I ended up swapping Wisdom and Dex because I feel like the group could use a bit of a rogueish character, thus betraying my "roll in order" idea.
(Spoiler- I intend to go into Great Old One Warlock for a few levels before continuing in rogue.)
GM Barty |
Recruiting is open for a 2nd level character in this 5E Starter Set campaign!
Race/Class can be any combination from SRD (preferably from the Player's Handbook/Basic Rules), and multi-classing is accepted.
Any of the three methods for stat generation are valid - Standard Array, 27 Point Buy or "Roll 4d6 Drop Lowest". If rolling is chosen, the rolls must be made in this thread and no re-rolling is allowed.
I avoid averaging in my campaigns, so the HP will be rolled per level regardless of stat generation method chosen.
This is a fun group of good role players and consistent posters, looking for that elusive fourth.
