Background:

He goes by Ren’kel Tam-ril. It’s his name, the only one he was ever given. Loosely translated it is a combination of: ‘Rejected one’ and ‘Runt of the litter’.

Needless to say, Ren’kel (or Ren, for short) wasn’t the most amazing addition to the tribe. He was a scrawny kid and was overpowered by children two years younger than him. He was last to eat, and got scraps if he was lucky. The rough ways of the tribe meant he was last to pretty much everything.

When it was time to do his trial of adulthood, hopes weren’t high. All the other kids his age passed the ordeal, and were welcomed into the fold. They were given honorable names, fitting their personalities. They were given important tasks. Ren however, was banished.

For a couple of weeks he stalked the edges of the tribes encampment, hoping to find food and was generally scared of being alone. He was soon found out and received a proper beating by a few of the tribes warriors. His face was disfigured, and they left him for dead.

A day later he was found, by a kinder soul, and the nymph took pity on the small wood-elf. She nursed Ren back to life, treated his wounds and even crafted him a mask to cover up his face. She left as soon as he was better, but offered some advice before she left. She told him to seek out humanfolk. Amongst them he’d be safer and even though they could also be cruel, he’d be considered capable compared to most humans,

Ren still doesn’t know if he dreamt the nymph during his black-out. Getting beaten to an inch of your life tends to mess with your memories, he found out. But there was the mask.. that was evidence that something must have happened that day?

Ren made his way to civilization, following forgotten words of a mysterious stranger.
