GM Auke's The Forgotten Laboratory (Inactive)

Game Master Auke Teeninga

The goblins of the dungeon's upper level took more than one trinket from the ancient laboratory that dwells beneath them. The wizard that created these items also performed dangerous experiments, many of which have gone out of control over the years. Stranger still, someone appears to be using the ancient equipment with sinister results.

Are you sure you want to sell this? Having a backup weapon is a good thing! :-)

True, I was debating going with the heavy mace so that I could cover P/S/B with different weapons, and also have adamantine, cold iron and mithral. But... I do hit better with the longspear and it's only an extra pound - so I'll stick with it for now! Keeping my club too. I haven't looked at encumbrance though...

Not sure what to do here, but I noticed that Alexia is 5th level. This module is for 2-4, I thought. I don't have access to the chronicles, so not sure on the tier, but I just want to be sure we have a legal table.

Oops, you're right! I'll check with John how we're going to handle this. To be honest, I think the adventure is providing enough of a challenge to the group as it currently is!

For now we'll continue with Alexia and when John returns from vacation, we'll either delevel her or replace her with another of John's characters or an iconic.

Just to be clear, I'm not trying to be a jerk. And this game is definitely giving us all we can handle!

I wouldn't want to let a bunch of level 2's even try it.

Ok, so remind me about AOO's, etc. The goblin's AOO hits BEFORE my spell goes off, right? So I am down ATM.

But I keep the spell slot?

Nope, your spell is interrupted. If you wouldn't have gone down you'd have needed a concentration check DC 10+spelllevel+damage dealt to still cast the spell.

Using a wand and channelling don't provoke.

Cant access map from my phone, but I want to see where our foe is right now. I think keeping Talwin upright is pretty important at this juncture, but Targost probably just dropped and Ebon is negative...

Probably should have gone for a cure spell, but its only a d8 no matter whether I cast it or wand it. Figured if I at least stabilize Targost we may lose but some may live to fight another day...

Hard to say. If that guy hadn't landed a crit right off, and if I hadn't given him a free AOO, this would be different.

Don't know when cutting and running would be good. We would have to go by a different route.

Anyway, if we do survive this fight we'll have to think long and hard about our next move...

Thanks for the stabilize spell Ebon!! The way I have been rolling lately (the last attack notwithstanding) I would probably die!

This is one of the hardest encounters in the module! It even has its own custom artwork. Might even be the most dangerous one! It didn't help you entered through the tunnel system as this slowed the party down quite a bit.

I went for the wrong damn rat. Had I hit green first, the goblin would've had to move to get to me. And the tunnel was my idea. Should've gone around or something.

Ebon and Muluk need to wail on this guy. He hits too hard for our healing to keep up.

If they both get lucky, we could live at least. Maybe hole up and rest...

I would love to be able to go in and beat the crap out of them. I have a full complement of spells, but we need a few weapons. We have to either flip "super goblin' over to our side, or disable him quickly. That might mean a sunder attempt aimed at the apparatus that gives him all his powers. As for his creator, I think we could gang up on him and quickly put him out of the game. Maybe that is what we need to do, concentrate all our fire on him. Once he is dead, maybe 'super goblin' will be free to go? Either way, I think we need to get the warriors armed again!

Silver Crusade

Well, my thought is we should have just been swinging for our lives at super goblin. He hit too hard for our healing to keep up. As for weapons, most of our damage is not done by the dice, although reach is handy.

Not sure. I have my spells, but without holy symbol I'm stuck.

A potion of see invisibility should be 1 PP each, and lasts for 30 minutes. Given how near the entrance the lab is, we could down a potion each and head in.

But our AC is total crap now, unless Targost drops a Mage Armor on each of us.

See Invis is personal, so no potions of that.

Good point about see invis! Hmm, I don't own any books that those items come from.

Can Targost do a wand of glitterdust?

Muluk owns the books, so as long as you use them this adventure, it's ok.

(BTW Andoran, Spirit of Liberty has a lot of nice options and is currently only $5.59 for the PDF!)

BTW, there's an excellent messageboard thread of what to expect at what level.

It's a good read!

Indeed, I have read this one myself (though I can't speak for the others). And frankly, I feel I was as well prepared as I could have been. I have a spell to see invis, dark vision potion (need oil of daylight), weapons of different materials and damage types, adamantine, etc. Healing spells and wand. I maybe should have better AC, but that's next on my list, a slightly lower priority as a reach weapon user.
