Eldanár Alcarin |
Eldanár switches to his musket again and will fire whereever the others point too, if it is coming into range. (40 feet).
GM Aram Zey |
Still need actions from Badr and Mu. Unless Mu declares otherwise in half an hour, I will assume he followed Shu's direction and moved to where he now is on the map, and Badr can do a double-post when he next posts.
GM Aram Zey |
We are now in round 3, according to the reference sheet. The creature is within medium range for you, but beyond short range.
GM Aram Zey |
Ok, Mu follows Shu's directions, and I will assume Badr continues his readied action.
Ok, this part of the creature's tactics seems poorly thought out to me...but sure, I'll follow it.
Exiel loses track of the creature briefly as it zips out of the area of effect of his detect magic cone. Seconds later, a blue winged humanoid appears 60ft above Exiel, as what appears to be a little pebble falls from the sky, landing between Exiel, Badr and Guilford. A thunderous roar fills the woods as the pebble hits the ground
Fort saves
Exiel: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Badr: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Guilford: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Oh dear...Mu, Guilford and Exiel are deafened for 1 hour.
Edit: After re-reading Badr's last few posts, I feel justified in saying that he readied an action to shoot at any hostiles that appeared, and that the creature's appearance triggers the readied actions of both Badr and Eldanar.
Badr: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 8 - 4 = 22
damage: 1d12 ⇒ 12
Eldanar: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 8 - 4 = 6
damage: 1d10 ⇒ 5
Eldanar misses, but Badr sends a bullet ripping through the side of the creature! The creature is in a bad way...but still standing...erm...flying.
New round!
Eldanár Alcarin |
Reload and shoot with cold iron paper cartridge.
Musket: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 281d10 ⇒ 7
confirm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 133d10 ⇒ (5, 9, 1) = 15
Exiel. |
Holy crap! Badr is back in a big way! Exiel can really do much under the circumstances, but he's going to stand where he is and cast detect magic again, this time focusing into the blizzard, in case anything else comes out.
GM Aram Zey |
Quickly reloading, Eldanar sends a bullet right through the chest of the little creature. It plummets to the ground. However, the loud crack from the thunderstone is probably going to attract attention....
Others may want to make preparations! We're still in initiative order!
Old Shu |
"What happen?" Shu uncovers his eyes after the creature is shot down. "Exiel, what do you sense?"
If Exiel can give a target Shu will pull out a scroll and cast another True Strike. If Exiel can't give a target, then Shu will pull out a scroll of magic weapon and cast it on Mu's right arm.
Guilford Baldwin |
Guilford moves closer to Badr.
"Good shooting there, friend. Why don't I give your gun a little extra oomph in case there's another beastie in there?"
He's speaking a bit loudly, since he can't hear and all.
Guilford will cast magic weapon on Badr's musket, assuming it wasn't enchanted earlier?
Spell fail chance: 1d100 ⇒ 5
@#$% dice!
Old Shu |
"Exiel? Hey EXIEL!" Shu shouts, then waves at the aasimar to get his attention, then uses two fingers pointed at his eyes, then turned and pointed to the blizzard, the universal symbol for "What do you see?"
Exiel. |
lol This could get interesting
Exiel's perception to spot Shu: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Dammit, so much for a chance at a comedy routine...
WHAT? WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO TELL ME? DID THAT CREATURE STRIKE YOU WITH MUTENESS? DOES ANYONE ELSE HEAR THAT LOUD RINGING?
Realising that the gnome must be up to some strange gnomish attempt at humour or other, Exiel gets right back to focusing on the blizzard, waiting for any signs of trouble.
GM Aram Zey |
Mu continues to play the role of a gnomish steed, whilst gnome plays the role of a monkey's steed. Under most circumstances, this would look downright odd...and this is one of those circumstances.
For a moment, all is silent....
Then you start to hear high pitched chattering...followed by a loud voice bellowing a string of words in a tongue none of you recognise. Judging from the pitch and the tone though, whatever produced that voice is big...and angry...
You also feel faint tremors in the ground getting progressively closer and closer to you.
*thump* *Thump* *Thump!* ThUmP!* *THUMP!* *THUMP!*
You can spend 2 rounds casting spells to prepare or do other stuff
Guilford Baldwin |
Realizing his spells are not as useful while deaf, Guilford readies and loads his crossbow, and withdraws a step. He then moves a further 15' behind Exiel.
I've got mage armor up, Exiel enlarged, and burned magic weapon to no effect. I've got my scrolls and one bonded item spell, but something tells me I shouldn't be near what's coming.
Exiel. |
Exiel spends the first round casting protection from evil, then the second round casting detect evil (spell-like ability, no failure).
failure chance for prot E.: 1d100 ⇒ 71
I may not be able to hear the thumping, but I will certainly be able to feel the faint tremors in the ground!
SOUNDS LIKE SOMETHING'S COMING! BUT IT'S MOVING VERY SILENTLY! I CAN'T HEAR IT OVER THIS RINGING! EVERYONE ELSE HEARS THE LOUD RINGING RIGHT?!
GM Aram Zey |
Badr: Yep, you're out of the blizzard, although something seems about to step out of it towards you! The blue blocks show areas of vision obscured by snow (more or less).
Eldanar and Shu, post your 2 rounds of actions!
Old Shu |
Shu rolls his eyes at Exiel's misinterpretation. But rather than waste time with a verbal complaint that would literally fall on deaf ears, he changes tactics. He can feel Something Big approaching, and Shu decides he should put something big between him and the Whatever It Is. Hopping down from Mu's back, he shuffles his scrolls and casts a spell of enlargement on the old monk.
Looking at his other scroll, he asks the others. "Who need magic weapon?"
Old Shu |
That's what Shu was doing. Just wasn't sure if Eldanar's firearm already has it.
Going to Sleep. Shu will use his True Strike / Splintering Spear combo 2 times, then just use Acid Spray by itself. Any other little blue guys show up, they get the spears first.
GM Aram Zey |
Ok Shu, thanks for pre-declaring. Mu, going to pre-declare any actions before you go sleep? Eldanar should be waking up soon. Haha.
GM Aram Zey |
Alright then. Can't see Eldanar having that much to prepare, so if there is anything, he can declare when he logs on.
Moving on now.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
As you make your final preparations, Exiel detects the onset of some evil force approaching. The pounding on the ground gets heavier, the tremors beneath your feet increasing in magnitude.
Suddenly, there a large spray of snow bursts from the thick blizzard, momentarily blinding the lot of you. As you blink the snow from your eyes, you see, standing a full head-and-a-half over even the enlarged Exiel, a towering, muscular but oddly-lanky blue-colored humanoid covered in what appear to be frosted patches of moss. It has an elongated, toothy snout and a long, droopng nose that is about level with its chin. Its long, pointed ears bend outwards, their tips pointing directly away from the creature's head. It appears to be covered in bits of foliage, and it grips in its hand a massive spear.
Upon seeing you, it stops, just inches from Exiel, neither having seen the other quickly enough to act. Seconds later, a total of ten small orbs of light burst from the snow, 5 to each side of the towering creature.
With a great bellow, the creature points its spear towards you, as if commanding the lights to advance!
Initiatives
Exiel:: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Badr:: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Mu:: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Shu:: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Guilford:: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Eldanar:: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
TK:: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Exiel was closest to the spray of ice that came with the appearance of the hulking blue creature, and spends a brief moment coughing out an extra mouthful of ice.
Everyone except Exiel, declare actions!
Per previously-declared actions:
Gesturing and chanting furiously, Shu casts a divination to improve his aim temporarily. Meanwhile, Mu tosses the spear in his hand at the beast before him...
Attack:: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 2 - 4 = 16
Damage:: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Mu opens with a well-placed toss of the spear, sinking it deep into the icy blue flesh! The creature lets out a loud roar as it glares balefully at the monk
Eldanar, Badr and Guilford!
Badr al Din Ibn Badriyah |
Ahhh...the broadside of the barn I have been waiting for...
BANG! 1d20 + 7 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 1 - 4 = 19
Pain! 1d12 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12 Cold Iron
What are those lights?
Badr reloads with a cold iron bullet cartridge.
Would be nice if we can take down this giant before it gets to attack
GM Aram Zey |
Badr sends a bullet through the large creature, and it roars with pain!
Badr has no way of knowing what those lights are...but they dart around really quickly!
Eldanar and Guilford! You're up!
Eldanár Alcarin |
Bang!: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (14) + 8 - 4 = 181d10 ⇒ 3 Cold iron
and reload with cold iron paper cartridge.
GM Aram Zey |
The beast buckles under the onslaught of attacks upon it, but remains standing! With a great roar, it growls as some of its wounds close before your eyes, and it lets out a great roar in Exiel's face...except Exiel can't hear it, and is thus un-fazed by it.
See my post in discussion.
Meanwhile the glowing lights whizz about, five of them flying towards Exiel and Mu, the other 5 flying over Badr, Eldanar and Guilford. Almost in tandem, one in each of the cluster of five lights unleashes a spray of colours on their targets below.
Will save
Exiel: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Badr: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Mu: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
Guilford: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Eldanar: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Wow...well that sucks. If either of you have a reroll, now is a VERY good time to use it!!!
The spray of colours knocks Eldanar and Badr off their feet, taking them out in an instant, and at the worst possible time!
They are:
unconscious, blinded and stunned for: 2d4 ⇒ (3, 4) = 7 rounds, then
blinded and stunned for: 1d4 ⇒ 1 rounds, and then
stunned for 1 round
Ok...well that REALLY sucks...
The creatures cackle in delight as the two noise-makers who dealt such heavy blows to their bruiser of a friend are taken out of the fight!
Everyone except Badr and Eldanar declare actions! (Which at this stage may just mean Guilford and Exiel since Mu and Shu are running off pre-declared actions...)
Hmm...since they won't be awake for awhile, Badr and Eldanar, feel free to declare actions for Mu or Shu if you want, but don't use their expendable items.
Eldanár Alcarin |
Reroll by Lessons of Chaldira trait for Eldanár and the second of three T-shirt rerolls on Badr please.
Willsave: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17
GM Aram Zey |
Eldanar snaps out of it! With his musket still in hand, what will he do?
Badr: if you fail your reroll, or don't have a reroll, you can declare for Mu and Shu till they wake up.
Exiel. |
I'm guessing Protection from Evil saved me there...
Exiel looks at the great beast before him. It's sheer size and ability to quickly heal its wounds convinces him that this is a foe that needs to be taken down quickly. But more than that...
Did...did this thing kinda just yawn at me? And what is with this constant ringing? If that loud alarm brought this creature out and started this incessant ringing, then maybe taking it down will finally stop that accursed ringing!
Drop shield, switch to 2-handed, move forward and
smite evil!: 1d20 + 6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 5 = 17
smite damage!: 1d8 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 = 8
Hmm...hope that's enough to hit!
GM Aram Zey |
Exiel: It seems you forgot you are now large, so I will reroll your damage for you.
damage: 2d6 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 + 1 = 10
Blazing with holy energy that guides his sword arm, Exiel brings his large sword down on the beast. It crumples under the blow, but Exiel's smile of triumph fades quickly as he realises that the creature's wounds are still closing before his eyes!
Eldanár Alcarin |
What is this thing? Why doesn´t it get hurt? What fiendish sorcery is at work there?
Knowledge local to identify: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Eldanár takes out the vial of alchemists fire and hurls it at the thing while he rides forward on Ted a bit in the cover of the trees.
Alchemists Fire: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 7 - 4 = 61d6 ⇒ 1
Of course those rolls. This game is really hexed. I bet Fire is the way here.
GM Aram Zey |
Eldanar has no idea whatsoever as to what it is, and his alchemist fire misses the target, smashing on the ground nearby and causing a small burst of fire that melts the nearby snow into a puddle.
Guilford: the nearer bunch of lights are at this point between 10 and 20 ft away from you.
Guilford Baldwin |
Guilford, hoping to strike back at those pesky flying things, reads a scroll of burning hands, and aims to catch as many as he can in the 15' cone.
Spell fail chance 1-20 fails: 1d100 ⇒ 21
Whew!
damage: 1d4 ⇒ 3
I'm hoping this does extra damage against cold creatures.
GM Aram Zey |
A blast of heat flows from your hands over the lights.
reflex save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
sense motivee: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20
How curious! Whilst the flames from your hands washed over the entire cloud of lights, only one made a (successful) attempt to evade the flames, and only one yelp of pain was heard!
Old Shu |
His attention focused to exclusion by his True Strike spell, Shu hardly spares a glance for the floating balls of light. Pulling his last alchemist fire from a pouch, he throws it almost casually at the giant monster.
Alchemist Fire!: 1d20 + 5 - 4 + 20 ⇒ (10) + 5 - 4 + 20 = 31
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
His spell complete, his eyes suddenly snap to other threats.
Storyteller for Information on the balls of light: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
GM Aram Zey |
The flask of alchemist fire smashes against the creature's skull, then quickly spreads like wildfire across the creature's entire body. It shudders and convulses as the flames lick at its body, rapidly reducing it to a puddle of goop with bits of charred substance in it. The spear in its hand shrinks down to the size of a normal spear sized for a medium-sized humanoid.
Looking up to the lights, Shu realises that the lights are similar to those produced by a dancing lights spell, though the spell is usually limited to creating 4 balls of light...
Meanwhile, Shu, with nothing left to do against the flying creatures, goes to retrieve his spear....then sees the large creature's spear, now the right size for him, and goes to pick it up instead.
GM Aram Zey |
The balls of light continue to whizz about, though this time 2 tiny voices shriek in terror. One light in each cloud flies straight into the blizzard, whilst the remaining 4 lights in each cloud suddenly go motionless, then after awhile fade from sight.
Well done guys, that was actually the final fight! The remaining 2 fey creatures have retreated. The the lucky and very deadly shots from Badr, Mu and Eldanar took that troll down waaay too quickly, but I suppose the luck had to swing your way eventually after the previous fights. =)
With that, I will go ahead and get an 'early' night sleep for the first time in a fortnight... If you need your chronicle sheets for the weekend, make a post in the discussion thread (everyone needs to visit the thread anyway, there's something important there, and will do up the epilogue over the weekend! =)
Exiel and Guilford, as requested, your Chronicle sheets will be up shortly, before I go to bed. Guilford, I presume your stat of choice is Intelligence?
Eldanár Alcarin |
Shoot at the ball of light, the one that yelped if possible. If not anyone of them.
Musket cold iron: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (17) + 8 - 4 = 211d10 ⇒ 1
Reload with cold iron paper cartridge as move action.
This dice roller is becoming so ridiculous. Finally hit probably then no damage.
GM Aram Zey |
Shoot at the ball of light, the one that yelped if possible. If not anyone of them.
[dice=Musket cold iron]1d20 + 8 - 4; 1d10
Reload with cold iron paper cartridge as move action.
This dice roller is becoming so ridiculous. Finally hit probably then no damage.
Relax, the battle is won, with the troll dead, the remaining TWO fey have retreated, never to be seen (by you) again. =)
Badr al Din Ibn Badriyah |
Amazing game guys... and to boot we completed this in a mere 2 weeks. That is the fastest tempo you could hope for and still have a good game. Very enjoyable and very fast.
Not sure what lies in store for Badr. I suspect I look for a T3 game.
