Actually it was probably the easiest way for the team to deal with that. I hadn't thought anyone would volunteer for that but with Niamh drawing them all in it was really quick. If the whole party would have gotten in everyone would bleed and feed these mists with HP this would take forever and seriously hurt the whole party.

Even if they would have noticed the blood of the Maidens which they could sense for a mile they are like gaseous. Not really incorporeal, but they can't do real damage. The 1d8 is only a side effect of the blood siphoning.
