DM Morvius |
The land gets worse and worse as you travel north and the ground is clearly more and more well-traveled. After about an hour of walking Ihon and Devron notice that there are lights in the distance that shine faintly even though it is the afternoon. Soft sounds, probably of talking, are audible near the lights which are about 100 ft away.
Andre Karoxin |
"For what it's worth, I personally consider stealth to be a better idea than foolhardy valor," Andre comments, running a thumb over his holy symbol. "Particularly in an unfriendly land such as this."
Sazu Magauge |
"If our recent welcoming is any indicator, I agree with Andre."Sazu mutters, holding onto someone's shirt so he doesn't wonder off aimlessly again.
Andre Karoxin |
Andre also attempts to move forward, though his tread isn't particularly light. He keeps an arrow nocked to his bow.
Stealth: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (7) - 2 = 5
Sazu Magauge |
'Umm...."
Sazu hesistantly moves forward.
"I'm not condfident in my ability to go unnoticed..."
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
DM Morvius |
The three of you approach slowly and once you reach 20ft from the light you can finally see its source. There is an imp being attacked by three humanoid-looking demons with horns and wielding scimitars shining with Light. When you see them, they see you, stop attacking the imp, and turn to rush the scouts.
Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14
Ihon Volarian |
Initiative: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Initiative (familiar): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30
Round 1: Initiative 27
Ihon frowns as he moves forward to join his allies.
Moving 60ft forward.
Sazu Magauge |
Init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
"Ohdearohdearohdear."
Sazu quickly takes aim, halfhazardly, and fires.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 1
DM Morvius |
Ihon, the creatures are Cambions. They have no special resistance to weaponry, but do have resistances to elements and spells. In particular they are immune to poison. They have the ability to enter a brief frenzy, increasing their speed and accuracy for a short time. They are also very adept at striking critical wounds. Knowing what you know about these creatures, however, these three appear to be wounded already.
Round 1 (Initiative 14)
The demons each charge one of your group that is closest to them, swinging a scimitar. Sazu is able to strike one with a crossbow bolt as it closes with him.
Andre Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Andre Crit Threat: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Phaedra Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Sazu Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Sazu Crit Threat: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Crit Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
DM Morvius |
Got a bit confused about the Grease, so I'll give the two of them that it can manage to hit (number 1 and 2) their saves with the assumption that they run through it.
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Apparently they are insane at rolling dice though, so it doesn't matter!
Sazu Magauge |
Sazu, shuddering from the slice of the steel cleanly moving across his flesh, moves back (5 ft step) and casts vanish on himself. (Invisibility for 3 rounds).
Phaedra Valerius |
Angry at both being hit and the things not falling in her spell, Pheadra Inspires Rage.
Andre Karoxin |
Andre staggers as the cambion charges him with its scimitar and opens a bleeding wound in his shoulder. "E-Erastil preserve me!" Staggering back, he claps a hand to the wound in his neck and a glow spreads from it, closing some of the wound.
5' shift away, then sacrificing tracking mark to cast cure light wounds on myself.
CLW: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
The wound closes almost completely and, grimly, Andre digs the scroll that the group recovered out of his backpack. "Ihon! Will this work on these fiends?!"
Wondering if Ihon knows whether they have 5 or fewer hit dice...guessing so, but if they have more the scroll of cause fear is useless here.
Ihon Volarian |
Two questions: Are they close enough to get at least two in a casting of Grease? And are they 5 or fewer HD and/or immune to mind-affecting effects?
DM Morvius |
They are currently too spread out to hit two with Grease. They do have fewer than 5 HD and they have no special immunity to mind-influencing effects.
Amideo, you do still get a round 1 action (though you are 80ft back) and you might as well post your round 2 at the same time, even though you act after the demons.
Amideo Caluzzo di Solva |
Amideo will spur his horse forward, galloping into the clearing and trying to strike one of the cambions with his lance
Lance Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 + 2 = 13
Damage 1: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Damage 2: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Ihon Volarian |
Round 2: Initiative 27
Yes. Ihon then frowns and points at one of the remaining creatures whispering a harsh magical word.
Casting flare on the one attacking Andre. Fort Save DC 14.
Sazu Magauge |
Sazu, under cover of invisibility, quickly moves away and out of danger.
He prepares a shot from his crossbow.
I don't think I can move and shoot from the crossbowa fter spending an action to reload, right?
DM Morvius |
Round 2
Flare Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Phaedra strikes the demon in front of her and deals a solid blow. The creature engaged with her attempts to strike her while the one next to Andre steps back into melee with him and attacks. Both of them start frothing at the mouth and enter a frenzy of speed.
Phaedra Scimitar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Phaedra Claw: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Andre Scimitar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Andre Claw: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Crit Confirm: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
And yes, Sazu, you are correct.
Andre Karoxin |
Round 2: Initiative 4
"Argh!" Andre grits his teeth as both blade and claw cut into him again, then steps back. "Glad to hear it, Ihon!" Unrolling the scroll, he chants a few words that complete the spell, and the scroll blazes with energy!
5' step back and use the scroll of cause fear against the nearest cambion. Sadly only a DC 11 (I believe) Will save...pass: shaken for 1 round. Fail: frightened for 1d4 ⇒ 2 rounds. I'm assuming this is a basic scroll, not one with a higher CL.
DM Morvius |
Phaedra, I believe that the claw missed you. It was only a 12 attack roll. Should be a total of 10 damage this round from the scimitar crit. And yeah, scimitars with improved critical are rough!
Cause Fear Save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
The Cambion shakes of most of the effects of the scroll, but it seems unnerved for a moment.
Phaedra Valerius |
You are right, I think I just saw the 21 on the line below and misread it as the attack on me. I also forgot that while raging, I heal back a hit point per round and I am keeping my rage up for round 2.
Round 2
Init 23
Spurred on by her Rage, Phaedra brutally slashed at the demon.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
2d6 + 7 ⇒ (5, 6) + 7 = 18
Sazu Magauge |
Sazu will begin a bardic performance, a boring drone the history of demon sightings in the land and the various political reactions, taking as many off-topic quotes, speeches, and citing his sources. The result is a boring lecture that puts the party in such a meditative state, they feel as if their fighting is more intuitive than usual.
Sazu glances at his like-new crossbow, wondering if it was even worth attacking the beast.
Still....
He might as well shoot.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16 Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
Inspire Courage (Su): A 1st level bard can use his performance to inspire courage in his allies (including himself), bolstering them against fear and improving their combat abilities. To be affected, an ally must be able to perceive the bard’s performance. An affected ally receives a +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects and a +1 competence bonus on attack and weapon damage rolls. At 5th level, and every six bard levels thereafter, this bonus increases by +1, to a maximum of +4 at 17th level. Inspire courage is a mind-affecting ability. inspire courage can use audible or visual components. The bard must choose which component to use when starting his performance.
DM Morvius |
Amideo is able to destroy the remaining demon and as it falls, the imp flies over to you, remaining in the air just in case.
Th...thank you. Those creatures are such a pain in the rear! I'm glad you came along to destroy them!
If you search the bodies you find three suits of studded leather armor, three masterwork scimitars, 260gp, a crystal skull (80gp), some nice copper wind chimes (20gp), a silver unholy symbol of Rovagug (25gp), and a gold an ivory decanter (400gp).
Ihon Volarian |
Loot updated.
Ihon will look over the gear with detect magic as usual and then silently watch the discussion between his allies and the imp.
Andre Karoxin |
Andre lets out a tense breath. "We're servants of the throne of Cheliax, imp," he says sharply. "And you?"
As he speaks, he seizes his holy symbol and burst of golden radiance fills the clearing, healing those who were injured in the fight.
Moving away from/confirming the death of the cambions first, of course.
Channel: 2d6 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4
Glancing at the others, he asks, "Is anyone still injured? Phaedra, those cuts look bad. Allow me?"
DM Morvius |
Oh, good. Then you must be the ones I'm looking for. Mr. Gantry wants to know how you are doing. I'm...guessing you didn't resolve the...issue...yet but have you at least made progress? The imp moves a bit closer, still hovering. It seems eager to get the information it is requesting and leave as it is clearly on edge.
