Spoiler:

Just letting you know that I'm cool with whatever Bo-dan's doing now, helping Khimisa and such. If you already had something planned with Paera or Khmisia or the girls or whatever, that's cool and I'll be happy to roll with it. But I'm just saying you don't need to go out of your way to write something, I'm plenty entertained reading everyone else's stories = )

Thanks for that Khal. I would certainly have to jam something in there to fill the space. Sometimes its ok to rush through things, but I think the new folk need some time to stretch their wings. Another week and we should be all together again.

I'll still drop another post for you in there somewhere, particularly something about Pae. It should prove interesting for your character :)

heya, my computer died horribly. I'm posting this from work but I can't use work computers for big posts or updates. I thought it was a simple issue at first, but it's not. Something went through and burnt out the modem and motherboard. Nice.

Will hopefully be up and running for updates again on weekend.

Sorry to all, I just got you all into this then can't keep up to the pace. Feeling a bit bad about that.

Cheers

Hey, no worries Wrath!

I just realized that things had kind of,... ;P and wanted to make sure that all was alright. PC problems definitely count as understandable! :)

I'll see you when you get a pc up and running!

(and on the plus side, any new PC comes with Windows 7 instead of super-C#@%, I mean Windows Vista!) ;P

Laters,

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

No worries Wrath, these things happen.

Hope everything works out with your poor PC >_>

The Exchange

I hope you get a nice shiny replacement soon. We are about to be PC-less when the baby comes along as my desk is where the cot will be. It feels like losing a friend but I'm sure I'll cope with a new laptop and child instead.

BTW I am running three days of games at my house starting tomorrow, so my ability to post will be pretty cut down. Then its a weeks holiday doing DIY and the like but that shouldn't slow me down too much.

Cheers

P.S. Was Vista that bad? Is Windows 7 that good?

Cookie Jar Pilferer 9 ; Dimensional Explorer 4

's'okay, Wrath. I've been slow posting myself lately without a reason a quarter as good as yours. Thanks for the heads up.

Yes.

Microsoft says so.

And I (would hope!) that you'll get more enjoyment out of the new kiddo anyways! Early Gratz! :)

Yes,... Yes,... a thousand times yes!

According to the people I know who have tried it, yes.

Ragadolf, if you're only taking a 5' step, that means you get a full round action, which should mean that the summoned creature will appear and act at the end of your turn on this round, no?

Great posts btw all, I'm throughly enjoying the read :)

(and I will write something for Bo-Dan soon, probably tomorrow when I'm feeling more inspired :P )

No Khal, full round means it takes him an entire round to cast. The creature arrives at the beginning of his next round (as per description in magic section).

You could do a move action and then cast a full round spell, however, in your next round you'd only get a move action as well.

It's not a full action, its a full round to cast.

Cheers

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Well, that makes sense, and I see what you mean, although that particular issue has never been crystal clear for me...

And a Lot of people play it wrong then... :P

Yeah, I think that Wrath has it correct there, although I could never explain why it's right,... Every time I think I have it figured out, I read another post that manages to confuse me again! ;P

For example, I had never heard before that moving and then casting a full round spell meant that you only got a partial move the next round! Although I suppose I can see where it could come from, I had never heard or played it that way before. :S

Time for me to peruse the summoning list, need to see who my new (temporary) friend is going to be! :)

Reading the second book of the Rigante series by Gemmell. 'Midnight Falcon'. It has a young man starting to spirit walk. Very cool. Thanks again for bringing this author to my attention! :)

Wrath,

did some updating of Pietro. Finally incorporated the book, and fixed my skills. (I had taken too many.)

Notes on hooks for you:

1. "stories of the gods" -- I was hoping you would do something with it. Glad to see you might.
2. Pietro doesn't want to be a peasant forever. He wants the shiny suit and the sword. I, on the other hand, am content to have him drift in a story-suitable way toward that goal. No hurries there.
3. I left bits of the family behind in the city to provide a hook to drag him back if you wish. It will be gnawing at the back of his mind.

Wrath,

I haven't done Cynthia's background yet because I wanted your input. Are you able to give me some details about the Village so I can get an idea about what to incorporate.
One thing I did do (and feel free to tell me to change it if it doesn't fit with what you have) was to make Kyle a Half-Elf so there would be some kind of connection to him owning a Curve Blade.

Cheers

Therealthom - Thanks for the character hooks. I'll certainly throw some of those around in game. Everyone will get some gear upgrades before too long if things go according to plan. You're all horribly under wealth by level I believe, though it's not really affecting your game ability at this stage. It will be addressed one way or another before reaching Gergythia.

The book will come into play more as I get a feel for it. I'm toying with the idea of flashbacks for Pietro like I did for some of Bo Dan's stuff.

As for returning to rescue lost loved ones, we'll have to see where the game takes us. It is certainly a thread that can be pursued with time. But it will be very dangerous :)

Flash, I'll post you a bit more history soon. It will be an outline of major personlities in the village and a reason why it's there in the first place. I leave more of the earlier background for your character to you. I will be giving you some interesting stuff about the Azlantis soon too, including stuff about their interactions with elves and half elves. This will all be spoilered, so you others please don't read it. I'm hoping for some of it to be a surprise later.

Vik, you are the only other one who I feel I haven't trown much in teh way of character development sorry. I actually have a good plot for you, but its hard to do much with while you're on the Island. I have something for Algret too when you all reach Gergythia, but she also has stuff going on with the kids. Vik, if you want more let me know and I can throw something your way.

Cheers all.

Wealth by level ? Bah! You know what you'll be throwing at us and I trust you not to have us fighting icedevils with +1 swizzlesticks of drink-chilling. Besides right now Pietro is under-wealth by design. Flashbacks are cool. Whatever you want to do. Regarding lost loved ones -- I just threw it out there. Don't feel obliged to take us back to a place where every creature will be our sworn foe. I'm very happy to let the story flow.

Funnily enough all the best games I am in have poor treasure characters. The treasure seems to take over a bit at later levels.

flash, just thinking out loud, but your idea of Cynthia's ex being a half-elf might also provide an interesting connection to Bo-dan as well. Don't worry, I'm not thinking anything romantic though ;) Unless she tells me different, I'm fairly certain that our heart-broken half-elf monk won't be getting into any kind of relationships for quite some time now

And PS for flash

Spoiler:

Are you ever coming back to Terran's game??

Sounds good. It will give us a bit of interconnectivity that can be used to draw the party closer together.

Flash, stuff for Cynthia's background.

Spoiler:

I'm taking ideas for this from a dungeon mag scenario. Dungeon mag is 137 in case you have it. While there are ideas im stealing from it, I'm not sticking to the plot in that overly much so you can read the intro bit at least if you want some more info than what I'm providing here.

The village is known as Haven-Fara, after the legendary pirate Grist Haven who sailed these waters nearly 50 years before. It was formed when the captin of the vessel you were travelling on decided to retire from honest "Pirating" and take up treasure seeking. He beached his ship the Good Fortune and had it landhauled into the clearing where the village was built. It became the pub and general store of teh village, getting smaller as everyone slavaged timber from it for building their houses. The captains name was Arden Galen. People didn't argue with him generally, as he had a bad temper and tended to kill those he argued with.

It was a rough life looking for the treasure of the famous Haven. However it was far more settled and safe than the previous years of raiding the shipping lanes had been. It had allowed you to meet Kyle Spirosen, and he had built you a place of your own to be with him. Kyle was no saint, but he was no murderer or rapist unlike many in the place. He was also strong and the pair of you had carved a little niche in the village. Things were starting to really shine, and the pair of you had planned to "buy out" of the town in the next few months with money gained from trading with the dew ships that new of the village. Buying out was the tithe required by Galen to leave, ensuring his little place remained relatively secret. His promise was after 4 years, if you hadn't spilled your guts he'd return the money. None had left yet, but you and kyle had been close when the spider attack came.

The village had only 70 people in it at the time the attack occured. There were others who lived there but two groups were "in country" at teh time. one was guarding the old ruins were the town had located and secured honey and other foods from an old orchard and a giants bees nest. the other group were conducting one of the regular forays into teh jungles looking for signs of Haven's lost gold. The dangers of the island made these trips extremely risky, and despite Galens best efforts, not much of the island had been searched in the 2 years since they'd settled the place. Galen wasn't in town when the attack began, he was out on teh treasure hunting trip. His right hand man Mik Godkin had been enforcing vilage law in his absence.

Many of the women in the place were either pirates themselves, or slave wives of the pirtes purchased from a Varisian slaver nearly a year ago. It wasn't the most pleasent of places to live, but Galen kept people safe and enforced his own brand of law ruthlessly, meaning people at least knew where they stood.

I'll leave details of other villagers you might have known up to you. You assume they're all dead as of now, whether or not that's true is yet to be seen. I also leave it to you how you got to be travelling with Galen (or how you got to the village if you don't want the pirate thing in your background).

I'll do stuff about your racial background later this week. cheers

I do have it and I was actually thinking to myself while reading your Posts that your descriptions sounded eerily like Siege of the Spider Eaters. :D

Nice Background, thanks. I'll keep to her arriving with the Pirates. She's no cold blooded killer, but she's no saint either and looting and Pirating aren't above her morals.

This is a homebrew adventure set around a noble trying to safeguard an island from the clans that are causing trouble. The party consists of a dwarf ship captain, a half-elf wizard, gnome bard, young noble fighter and her bodyguard, a human paladin. They are about to travel to the isle of Lochaude.
This group is in need of some quality roleplayers to re-energise themselves as three of the players are a bit new to pbp's. Again if you are keen then post something on the discussion thread.

I can certainly recommend the Lochaude Keep game. FW has written a nice little political game so far, and we've already had our first taste of action. Unfortunately posting died off for a while and the game just about died. We could use some regular posters to help keep everyone on track.

If you have the time and inclination, come and join Lazarus my gnome bard in some lovely scottish flavoured gaming.

Is there any mechanism for re-preparing spells mid day for a cleric? If so Algret can have a few purify's ready but if not the process will have to wait until the next day.

Next day it is I'm afraid. No fear though, you'll have time for at leat one days worht of helping in this way. Clerics choose the time of day to prep spells, I think you went morning? but can't remember off the top of my head.

The Exchange

Heya Gang,

With Cynthia now joined up its time to think about how to progrees. I have another choice for you to make in the path taken for the group.

The Orks are going to arrive soon with a request for aid from the party. Without spoiling too much, it has something to do with the evil ruins you glimpsed when you were with them and the cleansing of those ruins.

Alternatively the captain wants to send people back to the village to see if there are any survivors, and moreso to salvage as much stuff as possible from the place for the voyage.

While it is possible to split the party (two groups of at least 3), it would be better to try and stick together.

Without knowing too much about this, take the time to think about which mission you'd prefer to do and why.

Let me know in this thread please. You can wait for more info in game if you'de like, this is really just to get you thinking.

Cheers

Interesting,...
I presume this is one of those 'not enough time to do both' things, isn't it? ;)

Hmmm,... Decisions, decisions,...

EDIT- Ok, without knowing any in-game details, While Symington is all about survival (especially his own!)he is a researcher/Wizard. You had me at 'Ruins'. ;)

Smythe will be most likely to pick the exploration of ruins over anything else this island can offer. (Or at least what he thinks the island can offer.) :)

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

@Milhar: Thanks for noticing Bo-Dan condition, I was hoping someone would pick up on that RP opportunity : )

As for which mission...As a Player, I would love to check out the ruins. But as a Lawful Good Monk, I know that without question Bo-Dan would choose to see if there were any possible survivors at the village...So...?

The Exchange

M

Heheheh, actually Khaldon, when all the game stuff comes in, I believe your lawful good monk is going to be far more torn in what decision to make than you realise. A bit of a tough trial for poor Bo Dan at the moment. However, I'm very much enjoying your portrayal of how she's handling it.

Cheers

Scarab Sages RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

Well Cynthia would love to explore the ruins. But at the same time she would still like to know what is happening at the Village as well. So tough decision. Not that she's particularly worried about the inhabitants per se, but she would still like the opportunity for revenge on the Spiders.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

I think Algret would be more inclined to visit the ruins, both as an inquisitive dwarven adventurer and as a cleric who believes that evil you ignore will one day stab you in the back.

The Exchange

Village as per Milhar's promise, but he is a follower not a leader.

This one is quite a delima to me. On one hand Vik is a tribal guy and might help out those of similar ilk. On the other, the Villiage proved to be a challenge to another Ulfen, one which could provide a one upsmanship challenge in Vik's mind.

Guys, sorry I dropped out of sight for a couple days. Long busy days at work with a bad cold = no posting for Tom. I will catch up and post tonight.

Looking at the two missions, Pietro is going to be for the village. He's very focussed on getting the refugees to safety. Maybe he'll feel differently after I read the thread.

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

I'm getting the impression there's some confusion going on here, but maybe it;s just me?

Wrath, when you've been saying 'village' in mention of teh two possible quests, you mean Cynthia's village, yes?

So the two quests are:
1) go to Cynthia's viullage
or
2) go with the Orcs to the Ruins...

Is this correct?

The Exchange

M

yep Khaladon, that's correct.

a) help the orcs at teh evil ruins

b)look for survivers at Cynthia's village.

At the moment its a fairly even split. I'm willing to have the group split into two if it goes that way, but you all need to be happy with that as well. The joy of PbP is that a split party is far easier to handle than around a live table.

Sorry I didn't get tha captains speech up yet. We're in the middle of marking and reporting and I'm hip deep in after hours work. Will get it there soon.

Cheers

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Well, with the situation as it is now, Bo-dan may be likely to switch sides. Unless the captain comes up with a Very good speech, the way she will see it (especially if Cynthia gives her opinion)is that there is only a small chance of survivors in the village whereas the evil in the ruins represent a Clear and Present Danger Sorry! Always wanted to use that phrase in a sentence! ;-) to All on the Island. So for her now, it's really not even much of a choice. The Orcs are here and they need help and helping them will also help all of the refugees.

but I will save final choice until after the Captain speaks...

M Brownin (Half Pale Skin/Half Dark Skin) Healer 8/Merchant 3

Argh! Thanks for making the choice such a Tough one Wrath! lol

Now I truly am not sure what to do. Each choice is very important and each could mean the death or survival of the refugees!

...Bo-dan and I shall put our thinking caps on...

What are the rest of the opinions so far?
