Sorry for the delay everyone.
1st Vote: Stay and protect. Pae's too suspicious to let the ship leave her sight for long.
2nd choice: Visiting Arden. We could try and keep their attention away from their honey supplies for a while.
OOC: Hunting dinosaurs does sound fun though! :)

Knowledge (local) would be fine for any general info you're after. Particularly good for rumours and such. Knowledge(nobility) would help with lots of stuff about how Gergythia is run and why. Knowledge (history) would be your best bet for finding out things about the Varisians, particularly the pirate aspect of things and who might be hunting these particular waters. Good luck :)
Khaladon |
ha, like minds Val. I had already decided to pop in here earlier to say that while as a Player I think some of the other missions would be more fun, playing a LG character does have some moral obligations. So because Bo-dan has taken it upon herself to be on of the protecters of these folk, she cannot in good conscience leave them defenseless to go do something else.
My vote is unchanged since the captains outburst.

Xp - I'm giving everyone 200xp for that last fight. While it was actually not too hard for you guys, mostly that was a consequence of rolling luck more than encounter design.
Technically, Milhar should get about 200 and the others get about 150 as there were four on the beach, but I'm not going to separate players in xp rewards because of choices made through good roleplay character decisions.
I used to dole out character specific xp rewards for certain situations, but I found that led to tension amongst my home group. Is everyone happy for me to keep experience rewards similar?
I'll generally reward characters through other means when they complete individual goals, as I did for the mini challenges on the trip to the island.
If my counting is correct, that puts you on about 1000xp. At 1200xp we level up :).
FW is busy at a convention this weekend I believe, I've got a big game with my live group today and tommorrow is family day before I start back at work. It's likely to be a slow posting weekend.
Heya Woodraven, how goes the trouble with the move? Hoping everything is sorting itself out for you mate.
Cheers

Ok, the xp breakdown for what just happened.
Sailors - 1400 (7 sailors at 1/2 cr each)
Rafiki - 600 (cr 2 enemy)
Durgol (fighter on the beach) - 800 (cr 3 enemy)
Story arc completion - 800
That's a total of 3600xp, amongst the five of you gives 720xp each.
That puts you all on a total of 1720xp and into level 2. Grats
We'll probably spend this week wrapping up this little story arc (The ambush stuff and why it happened). We can roleplay it out for some charcter development, or I can just do a summary if you'd like.
No matter which option you choose for how I give the story summary, I'd like to give you guys a chance at some character development. The pace I've set can be a bit harrowing, so I want ot give you a chance to flex your creative story telling a bit.
Could each of you give me a bit of a downtime story for your charcters, reflecting a bit on their personalities. It could be flashback, maybe something that happens around the campfire when all this settles down, a dream. I'm easy. If you really don't feel like doing this sort of thing, no probs, I just wanted to give the opportunity to flesh your characters out some more.
Cheers

Loot for this little incident
From Durgol - Masterwork silvered longsword. It's his wepon but you can confiscate it and use it with the Captains blessing.
- Materwork chain shirt. Also his personal gear
- He has strapped to his wrist an interesting device. It looks like it can hold a potion. This allows you to store one standard potion and drink it without provoking an attack of opportunity in combat. You can get specially made vials to fit this, in which case it can store up to three potions, rather than one.
From Rafiki
- Masterwok longsword. This is actually a family heirloom from one of the other passengers that he forced into handing to him.
- Hide armour - Looks like a full bear pelt and acts like hide armour. It's quite intimidating and adds 1 to intimidation checks in combat if used that way. This is also purloined from one of the passengers.
You could take this stuff and no one will ask, as they are a bit frightened of getting caught up in any recriminations for helping the coup attempt.
The other fighters were pretty much using crude wepons they made themselves. Daggers from bits of metal or sharpened spikes, and other bits of weaponry (like bailing pins with nails in).
Cheers

here is my hp roll for next level, just putting it here so I don't forget. Not to bad if I say so myself

Hey Wrath heres my hp roll, HP (1d8+3=8) spending the favored point on skills since clerics are short on those.
Did you say you had some special features ofthe Artifice domain?

Nothing concrete yet Mark. I was planning on letting you use untrained craft skills with it. Plus I was thinking of allowing bonuses to identifying certain types of magic items as a consequence of it. Still tossing around ideas in my head. If you've got any ideas yourself let me know.

I have updated Milhar to second level.
Took the all powerful spell, mending, that should make the monsters shiver in fear.
As for fleshing out my man, I'll try to come up with some more stuff but he is fairly complete to my mind. There are probably one or two points where he has evolved a bit thanks to saving the baby and investigating Rafiki.
He rolled max hit points (link on alias) and starting taking ranks in Know(Arcana) due to the doll and magic use in combat.
Cheers

Leveled up. I think the skill checks should be good. I think with the knowledge gem cutting she'd probably be able to figure items where the gems were related to the magic function. She's definitely use that on the doll.
Just a thought. Thinking about character stuff, maybe I should just play out a few scene's with the kids. Also plan to meditate with the doll during downtime and see what, if anything, presents itself.
Wrath |
You'll both get some doll info this week. The level up combiined with a bit more downtime later will have them both become "quickened". I have to let you know that the dolls are a work in progress as well. While they familiar like in nature, I'd like to make them more unique if possible. The trick is maintaining balance.
Also, Bo Dan, your pendant will evolve a little for this level.
Cheers

There's no pressure to further flesh out your characters btw. It's really just something I wanted to offer those who are into the character development aspect of things. Some people like to throw out extra detail, others enjoy having the character grow with the game (I'm more of the second type myself). Just opening it up to all play styles.
I'll write some interactions stuff for everyone. Just working out the details of what will happen now. I was surprised so many of the attackers survived, even more so that the bugbear was taken out early enough to effect things so dramatically. This is one of the things I really like about PbP. It gives me more time to better use the results of your actions to build a more robust story.
Cheers
French Wolf |
I still have no real idea how the bugbear wore Rafiki. It is a mystery to Milhar as well. But who cares I am just glad that I got a chance to hit the son of a gun.
What we doing about the PF Rules after August/September? I am getting the bestiary and "PHB" but is everyone else planning or even wanting to convert?
Also I may take the opportunity to try out an idea I have for running another Pbp..
cheers
Wrath |
Hehe, you'll piece it together eventually.
I'm going to buy the pdf of the main rules. If I can afford the bestiary I'll get that as well. I'd like to convert across if possible, but as you're all discovering, I'm likely to change things around to suit my game any way. The mechanics of the game I'd like to keep as close to the rules as possible, so we're all on an even footing.
But as for monsters, I tend to change the names of monsters or play with their stats to get what I'm after. It keeps players guessing and helps stop metagaming (in my home game at least). It also makes knowledge skills far more important, as players need them to know whats going on as much as their characters do.
This sytem is working far more effectively in the PbP format I must say.
Hope you guys liked the twisty little plot for that first level of yours. I was trying for soemthing a little away from the usual "meet in an inn and raid the local baddies".
Cheers
Oh and for FW benefit
How bugbears work (spoilered if you'd rather not know)
I took the Golarion concept of a bugbear and changed it for the more militiaristic and spec op nature of the goblinoids in my campaign. In golarion, bugbears feed off terror. While that is still true in my world, they are also able to enhance and accelerate other emotions, such as rage, fear, sadness etc. This one has been on the ship increasing everyones anger levels. If a bugbear can get to someone who's very heighteed in an emotion, they can occasionally tap the psyche. This allows them to communicate telepathically through certain voodoo rituals they have. If the link is maintained for long enough, or the bugbear is good enough, they can sometimes project their spirit into the body of the other person and possess them a little. This allows the bugbear to push the victim into extreme acts, often without their knowing the thing is even there. Bugbears get amazing pleasure from such close bondings as the heightened emotional state feeds directly to their psyche. The longer this goes on, the stronger the link and the more people it can start tapping into. The one you encountered had only been with the passengers for a week or so and it had already tapped Rafiki and could wear him, and had started feeding the other mutineers anger as well. They are sneaky and dangerous opponents, and thankfully very rare. They get more dangerous and powerful the longer they remain undetected in a setting, until the entire settlement or homestead becomes "Touched" and wipes itself out in an orgy of destruction and terror. At this point the bugbear moves on.

Personally I couldn't be happier with the game Wrath. It already has a very unique feel to it and your writing is superb. You have a great handle on how to create drama, tension, horror and riveting action. I am super pleased to be involved in this game. Another reason is that Everyone is this game writes very well. Which (conveniently ;-) brings me to my next point/idea/suggestion/question.
There is so much excellent writing going on in this game that it really pains me to be Missing so much of it in the spoilers!!
So my thought is this. I know that for some of the spoilers it is important for it truly only to be for those it is supposed to be for. But I suspect though that there are many other things that have been spoilered just because the other Characters couldn't/wouldn't know it but that would not really effect anything if the Players read it. At least I know this has been true for several of my spoilers. So my idea is this:
What if, for those true "Eyes Only" spoilers we just add **'s? so like this:
**Wrath Only**
Hey! This was for Wrath only! You shouldn't have been reading it! lol
and for other non-top secret spoilers just do it the normal way
Wrath
Yes see you could have read this and enjoyed the talented writing within! = D
Of course, if anyone still doesn't want to read anyone else's spoilers they don't have to. But I just know there's a lot of good writing going on that I'm missing and it "Burnssss! It Hurrrrrtssss ussss massssterssss, it hurrrrrtssss!"
So? What-choo all think?
Oh and PS, Cool Wrath! What'd she get??! What'd she get!! lol
Level 2 Bo-dan coming up.

I have to agree with the writing, it is really more like a collaboration novel that we are working on. I do like this style and game, I have a decent enough describing verbally stuff like this, I just have a hard time writing it, the reason I like PbP's now is that I have time to think out what I want said/described. This is going to help me with my writing classes for school.
I do like Khal's idea for spoilers, so I am just putting my 2 cp in on that I am up for it, as long as you are ok with it Wrath.
As for FW I might be a little behind in getting the core book for PFRPG but I do plan on getting it shortly after it comes out. At least with the barbarian preview, an easier rage system coming up and more controlled rage powers look interesting.
Oh and Level 2 meatshield coming up.
Wrath keep up the great job, this is a wonderful game, and I am glad to be a part of it.

Vik is now Level 2

I can certainly start doing spoilers like that if you want.
I'd noticed you had all stopped spoilering in the ship fight so I started letting everyone read what was going on. I agree it makes for a much better read. If the party ever splits again I'm happy to keep going with this style rather than spoiler it, as long as you guys are happy to keep player knowledge and character knowledge seperate.
Milhar has a few vision type things going on with his charater as a consequence of the concept he's come up with. I'm spoilering those as its up to him to share that info because no one else will ever see them.
Also, I spoiler knowledge check results based on level of success. It's best not to read those if you want to get the surprise factor out of the game. Some of those failed knowledge rolls led to you guys really making mistakes on what you thought was going on I believe.
On that note, the spoiler above about Bugbearrs is open content for any one who wants to read it. I just spoilered it for those players who'd rather work some of it out in game. You'll come across them again I'm sure, so there's a chance to learn about them in game if you choose not to read it.

Roughly how old are the kids? It may affect what I say to them.
Mark, Kahir is about 7 or 8 years old. Sahba is about 4 or 5 years old. He's a pretty tough little fella and she's sensitive. I'm atually getting characteristic ideas for these kids from my own kids and nephews. Helps to have a muse for such things :)

Wrath that is ok with me about the skill checks and such, but I think the idea was about the story elements being written. But that is just my take.
Oh, yeah this weekend might be sporadic for my posting, moving day and all.

I'm happy with the honour system Val, and all of you for that matter. Don't feel you have to roll on IC, I'm confident you guys aren't into fudging things.
Oh, and I haven't forgotten you in the whole rewards things Val, I'm just working out how to slip something your way so it makes sense story wise.

Khaladon, I agree that this is a quality game, and you guys do write well. However I enjoy separating the knowledge and keeping some of what Milhar is doing a mystery.
I think that is the DM in me. But what I have started doing is relaxing the spoilers after a few actions so that everyone can read the action without fully understanding the circumstances. Whet's the appetite!
For me, I'd prefer to leave things as they are.
Then if you want to know anything, just ask Milhar. He is a good guy, more good than most of my other PC's.

Ok for the two who recieved the companion dolls
The dolls act like a Familiar at the moment. You share an empathic bond, though the things don't know how to talk yet. You can share spells with them and cast touch spells through them. I'll gove you stats for them soon, but need some information from you guys first.
Each doll takes on an aspect of its owner. You get to choose, though I'll tend to play them a certian way as a consequence of your choice. You can choose the doll as having taken one axis of your alignment, or one facet of your caster type (bloodline or domain), you could have them focus on a personality trait you had in mind for your character, or make them based around a skill you felt best shows your character. 'll take that information and create something unique for each of you.
As it is, you both had a different vision on how they quickened based on my perception of how your characters might believe such things would happen.
Like many items I plan on handing out, these will improve with time and effort, and if I can keep the creatiity up I'm hoping they'll take on completely different abilities and presonas as the game grows.
Note that while I will NPC these dolls on occasion, you are also free to develop them as you will, particular any personality traits you think they will take on. They have a soul, it is unique and gifted by the gods, but they are unformed and easily trained at this stage. Treat them well and it will be returned in kind.
Mark, this gives Algret three fairly complex NPC's to interact with, which was never my intention but seems to have grown into that. If it becomes too much, let me know and I can dial some of them back. Although the children won't figure overly much in many of the combat heavy settings hopefully.
Val and Vik, I havn't forgotten you two in the list of "cool" gear. It's coming, I just need th right situation ot introduce it to you is all.
Cheers

Not sure if this is possible but it would be good if my doll could take on some of the celestial aspect, the healer in Milhar. This feeds into pretty much everything he does as it's at the centre of the Source magic.
Plus it would benefit us if we had a little doll that could sneak round the back of a fight and touch someone with a little healing/protection/blessing of some kind.
As for running it, I keep seeing visions of Doctor Who and the Terror of the Autons, there was a Chucky style creepy doll in that.
Cheers

I can run with that concept FW. They have limited power now but certainly its healing potential will increase with time. And I am going to play them a little freaky at first. I think having something in constant touch with your mind would certainly be offputting. Cheers

I'm thinking that with the definite Earth theme to Algret, between the Earth Sense feat, the domain and a few preferred spells Earth should be the way to go with her new friend.
If you had a cool idea for Artifice that could work too. Already i like the idea that I can heal the doll using the Artifice domain power.
In regards to the NPC's, I wasn't expecting anything like it either, but I'm finding I really like it, and Algret is developing more depth than I ever imagined. Reminds me slightly of Bruenor Battlehammer.
