Male Dwarf Fighter 3

For the first time on this adventure Borondon can taste fear. He takes a swing with his new axe:

1d20+7=10

and is obviously not used to it.

He then takes a 5-foot step back to Y9.

You actually hit Borondon, this thing has a 2E-style Ac number (i.e '3') A crippled kobold could hit it. KILLING it on the other hand...

Round 1 Update:

Svetla: [swing and a hit]
Navorn: 25 [pending]
Divel: 24[arrow strike]
Ingrahild: 21 [casting resistance]
Merzhan: 21 [tossing erl--need D100 roll]
Borondon: 21 [whackidy whackidy--need damage roll]
Sondergang: 19 [casting bless]
Gelatinous cube: 7

Divel:

Spoiler:
The door you just de-trapped is most likely going to be blocked by jelly by the next round. You can go and enter any other one you wish. They all open outwards into the hallway.

Merzhan I need a D100 roll from you to see if the oil ignites properly.

The clear gelid mass surges through the hallway, its speed accelerating as the party's attacks wound it. Divel's arrow is swallowed up to the fletching, Svetla's sword carves a transparent hunk from the transparent beast. Up close Borondon and Svetla can see several partially-digested rats within the cube's interior.

It is going to try and engulf everyone within 15' by rolling over you. Please roll a DC 13 Reflex save if you are within three squares of it. If you pass, you will have scrambled back 15' in time and can continue to attack as per normal. If you fail, you are considered trapped in the Gel cube. You can trade your Reflex save for an AoO, but you will automatically be engulfed. All those engulfed take 3 HP damage and have to make a DC 20 Fort save Vs. Poison.

You know, I was just thinking that...

Damage: 1d10+4=10
Reflex save: 1d20+3=18

Bribes always welcome

Borondon's axe slices deep into the clear tissue, causing a stinging liquid to spatter on him. The surging wall of jelly forces him to scramble back nimbly. The ooze covers the hallway where he stood as he moves back.

Bribes always welcome

Has everybody updated to 2nd level?

Male Elf Rogue3 (favoured class)

Divel tries to re-enter the skeleton room but the beast catches him at it.

Reflex save rolled a 3. Fort save rolled a 3. Took damage...3

The Exchange

Male Human Sorceror 3

1d100=94

Merzhan pulls a glass flask from his pouch, pulls the stopper from its neck and dexterously fits a treated fuse into its neck. He lights it and lobs it at the advancing ooze. The round globe hits square on, the volatile oil blossoming into a sheet of bright flame. Svetla and Borondon feel as if the air has caught fire. Their vision clears and they are left with with smoldering hair and a few small painful burns on their skin 1 HP ea flame dam. The front of the ooze ripples with flame but it surges on, relentless. The hallway fills with a murderous stink as the gelatinous cube burns.

Divel darts for the skeleton room, but his skill and speed fail him this time. The ooze sucks him in, entombing him in it's clear flesh. Divel's senses turn dull and echoey, as if he was deep underwater. He feels the sting of acid againt his skin and realizes that the beast has him proper. Eldormiel's rich voice flits across his mind briefly:

"The vital humors of a Courinjelvidene are extremely acidic. Wood, flesh and bone dissolve quickly under its assault. The fluids are often in high demand for their dissolving properties, but few would willing search out such a beast."

Male Dwarf Cleric 1 (favoured class)

reflex save 1d20=12 but I forgot to add the +1 for the bless so thats 13 which passes..just

Sondergang barely avoids the foul and putrid gel as it lurches forwards ending up behind Merzhan.

"Keep falling back" he cries "The damned things too slow to keep up if we do and the elfs only chance is if we kill it quickly"

Round two
He launches a bolt of acid from his hand at the cube and then moves back a further 5 feet

ranged touch 1d20=15, damage 1d6+1=2...at somepoint I will roll higher than a 1 on a D6 damn you IC

not updated yet, when time permits I will get Ingra leveled

Bribes always welcome

OK gonna roll Svetla's reflex

1d20+3=16

Svetla manages to evade the flaming ooze as it surges down the hallway, its advance forcing her to the edge of the open pit where Udo the skeleton once lurked.

Divel attempts to move in his prison, but finds his arms and legs wont obey him. Paralyzed for 8 rounds :( . The flames that coat the front of the cube make interesting patterns that he can just see past to the horrified visages of his companions. The sting of the acid fades, and a numbness fills his senses.

The party can see the dim shadow of Divel locked in the huge cube behind the rippling oil flames. Gobbets of burning ooze slough of its front and are reabsorbed by it as it continues its relentless surge towards the party.

NEW ROUND!!!!!

Good news: The cube wont be able to pull the engulf trick this round because of the open pit, so no Reflex roll needed this round. The bad news: Svetla can only jump over the open pit to escape the ooze, so I need a DC 8 Jump check or she ends up in the drink.

Round 2 [edited]:

Borondon: 21 [pending]
Sondergang: 19 [ACID BOOOLT!!!]
Gelatinous cube: 7

Merzhan unleashes a searing firebolt into the monstrosity.
1d20+2=17, 1d6+1=5

>>NEW MAP<<

Male Dwarf Cleric 1 (favoured class)

That is strange

Both Merzhan and Sondergang strike the oozing abberation with conjured bolts, one green, one fiery red. They pound into the clear cube, but it doesn't react, moving ever closer to them.

Male Dwarf Fighter 3

"Divel we will free you from your gooey prison!" Borondon takes another hack at the creature:

Attack: 1d20+7=13
Damage: 1d10+4=5

He then retreats back another 5 feet.

Female Human Fighter (F) 3

Svetla leaps across to the otherside of the pit.

Acrobatics: 1d20+DEX = 14

Patrick, per the Acrobatics this is actually a DC 10, cause I'm leaping across a 5ft. pit without 10 feet of room for running.

Male Elf Rogue3 (favoured class)

HELP! LET ME OUT!!!

Thanks KMD! This is the reason I wanted to play this PbP. I forgot about Acrobatics taking Jump over. I didn't realize there was an actual score for a standing 5' jump, I just guessed, figuring 5' isn't all that far, so a DC 8 sounded appropriate. Oh, and you still have an attack left this round ...

Borondon's axe carves out another chunk of gelid flesh from the flame-shrouded ooze as Svetla leaps nimbly over the five-foot pit. The nimble dwarf follows suit as the ooze scrunches up and sends out pseudopods around the open chasm.

Female Human Fighter (F) 3

Svetla swings at one of the pseudopods. Sure that doing this won't hit Divel. Though he may fall into the pit!

ATTACK: 1d20+4= 10
DAMAGE: 1d8+4 = 02

Bribes always welcome

I'm kinda confused on Svetla's '02' damage. I'm going to assume she meant 12.

Svetla's sword licks out and carves off a large pseudopod of the ooze.

Going to DMPC Ingra for Larcifer

Ingra, falling back readies her crossbow and fires

1d20+2=16, 1d8=8

The small cleric's bolt fires true, sinking deep into the ooze. Divel watches with stinging eyes as the bolt travels past his head deeper into the cube's interior. The entire mass quakes and shivers, stopping its forward locomotion. As if a wineskin burst, the ooze deflates. A flood of clear fluid rushes down the corridor, swirling around the feet of the party and dripping down into the open pit. The last flickers of oil flame gutter and die, leaving nothing but a choking haze of burnt jelly smoke. Divel's form lies prone, still encased in the remnants of the ooze.

Congrats!

Divel:

Spoiler:
you will take a total of 5 HP extra damage (assuming your party members get you out of your gooey prison quickly)

Female Human Fighter (F) 3

NO. That's 2. not 12. And I'm still using the warhammer.

Bribes always welcome

EEK! Mea Culpa. How did you get 2 damage when you have a +4?

Female Human Fighter (F) 3

It should've been 6. I rolled a 2, then +4 would've been 6 damage. Now to retype the post I just lost.

Female Human Fighter (F) 3

Svetla hurries over to the gelatinous corpse. She pulls out a dagger and begins to hack into the mess. She focuses on freeing Divel as quickly as possible.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1 (favoured class)

Sondergang moves as quickly as he can to assist in getting Divel out of the oooze..scraping the muck of the elf with his heavy gauntlets he wrinklles hyis nose at the acid smell coming off him

Bribes always welcome

Svetla and Sondergang rush to Divel's side. Fortunately much of the thing's mass seems to be draining off into the pit. Divel lies crumpled amid gobs of goo and various coins and stone chips. The elf stares around wildly, his eyes the only thing moving in his head. He breathes shallowly as the group brings him from his gelid prison, but is completely still.

Divel's skin looks as if he was standing in front of a furnace. An angry reddish burn covers his exposed skin. His hair even appears to be shorter than it was. Several of his cloth and leather items smoke lightly.

The ooze's body has also left a longsword and a warhammer behind, their metal polished mirror bright by the aberration's intestinal juices. Dwarven runes twist around the warhammer, and Draconic sigils seem to be inscribed on the blade. A mirror-bright chain shirt winks among the ooze's noisome corpse as well.

Male Elf Rogue3 (favoured class)

"I..........I.......thanks."

Eventually the elf rolls onto his front and crawls away from the goo.

"Again, I......cough, cough" he gives up on talking.

Male Dwarf Cleric 1 (favoured class)

Sondergang moves the armour and weapons aside then turns back to the stricken elf.

Female Dwarf Cleric 3 (Favoured Class)

"Let me through, let me through, Sondergang, lets attend to this brave elf, oh look at you Divel, you have gone and made a mess of your clothes, go ahead put on a new set and I will launder these, oh you look sore, let me take a look at theat"
Go to [http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/1921063/]Heal check=7[/url].

Male Dwarf Cleric 1 (favoured class)

Smiling and shaking his head at the Motherly dwarfs actions Sondergang merely lays his hand upon Divels burnt skin intoning words of power and causing the reddening to cease

|Cure light wounds 1d8+2=5

The Exchange

Male Human Sorceror 3

Merzahn casts Detect Magic on the weapons, and translates the Draconic writing on the sword blade.

Male Human 3rd

Ugh didnt check my thread...sorry had stuff going on this week...I seemed to have missed the whole fight sorry about that....Humm is it a sword i can use? my rapier is kinda useless here

Female Dwarf Cleric 3 (Favoured Class)

Ingra Leveled, Nice role play Sondergang! LOL

Male Elf Rogue3 (favoured class)

Yeah, its beginning to feel like a party.

Divel clasps the dwarf's hand and shoots for a quick smile. "Better."

Slowly he stands and stretches. Then he checks his bow and arrows. Then his armour and the lesser equipment.

Eventually joins the group examining what has been found inside the monster.

Bribes always welcome

Sondergang and Ingrahild tend to the ooze-encrusted elf. Under Sondergang's magic, Divel's acid burn fades in intesity. The paralysis fades and the sting of the exposed skin once again tingles Divel's nerves. His clothing looks as if it has pinhole burns all up and down it. His chain shirt is streaked with shinier patches, the ooze's acid having taken some of the tarnishing off. Odd gobbets of ooze drip from various places on the elf's body.

Merzhan casts Detect Magic and determines that the two weapons and the chain shirt are indeed magical in nature. The Draconic runes read Xorn Claw.

The others pick through the other leavings and find some items of interest.

Leavings in the goo:

Spoiler:
450 GP in various Tharkadian currnecy (all very shiny)
A brass scroll case, which seems to be locked in some way
A large Cat's eye gem.
A metal flask with sloshing contents.
A pair of golden serpentine arm bracelets fashioned in the form of Mermen

Male Dwarf Fighter 3

Borondon pats Divel on the back. "Har, that was another close one!"

Then his eyes gleam when he sees all the loot.

Male Human 3rd

If it has not been done yet Navorn will detect magic...any chance of a knowledge check to be able to open the scroll

"Indeed friedn that was a close call, heh we seem to have them often...will make a fine tale however"

Bribes always welcome

Navorn can Det. Magic on the goo treasure. The flask, armbands and scrollcase all glow. The scrollcase has several small rings of runes that can be twirled to a main pointer. The runes are Draconic, but simply letters in that alphabet.

Female Human Fighter (F) 3

Svetla takes out her waterskin and pours water over her dagger and gauntlets in an attempt to get rid of any ooze left on them. Looking over towards Divel, she asks the dwarves, "Is he going to be ready to go soon? We still need to check out that room."

Male Human 3rd

" The armbands, flask and scroll case are magic..as to what kind" He shugs and smiles " that's our friend Divel's area...the letters on this scroll are dragonic but not a language i speak"

Bribes always welcome

The hallway's burning haze has subsumed somewhat, the unobtrusive venting system of the Tharkadian dwarves still doing its job after a millenium.

The group stands ready to face their next challenge.

Are you Identifying any goods found? And who will get what?

Male Dwarf Fighter 3

From what I can see only Sondergang has detect magic and is trained in Appraise. And if no one else wants it, Borondon will take the chain shirt.

Female Dwarf Cleric 3 (Favoured Class)

that's fine with me you need the best AC you can get...we should wait for Sondergang to identify the stuff first...

Male Dwarf Cleric 1 (favoured class)

If we can take a few minutes in the safety of our camp room I will try and determine the nature of our finds. If not then I will take the warhammer. However after this next room I suggest we stop and take stock anyway

Sondergang touches Divels clothing again intoning a prayer to Torag and the holes in the garments close as if they had never been there(thats such a useful ability)

Male Elf Rogue3 (favoured class)

The elf's face colours slightly at the clothes returning to normal.

He opens his mouth and shuts it again like a trap.

"Good."

Divel can det magic and appraise is one of his key skills now. Like Sondergang he can give stuff the once over when we take a break.

Then he moves over and opens the door he has already checked. The place is in a certain amount of darkness now that his torch has gone out.

"No torches left."

Male Human 3rd

Ya can have the chain shirt i got one of the master work ones...is the sword usable..what kind was it....when we get back I am sooooooooo buying a useful weapon

"I can make lights that dance...little orbs kids from the villages love em. Not a torch but useful"
