Welcome all- I'm looking forward to running this AP with you.

If you haven't already done so please start looking over each other's characters and discussing any tweaks you'd like to make or potential weak spots you'd like to point out. Like I said, we'll take a day or two to get everything situated and then get started. and make sure to post here so we can see that you got the memo; I'll open up the gameplay thread in a little bit so you can dot it.

@Nate - I'm dropping Mythic Vital Strike for Dual Path, and will re-evaluate my fighter archetype. I may even pick a different warrior class, but the wizard/signifier will remain unchanged.

That's fine, thank you. I actually don't really mind you picking mythic vital strike back up later if you want to it's just (like I said) that it pairs sort of too well with two-handed fighter.

Avaria- I have a concern about your background... I actually almost PMed you about but didn't want to hold things up any longer. What's your plan for leaving behind your husband and creature comforts to adventure? Are you assuming I'll kill him off, or do you have some plan for a tearful farewell or an argument that climaxes with you grabbing your bow and storming off?


Just for clarification, if I completely ignored Vital Strike (normal and mythic) and never took it, would two-handed fighter work for you? I'm open to surgery on this character, but I just want to be certain what needs to change. The feat, the archetype, or the interaction between the two?

Hello all! Looking forward to this a great deal.

I'm currently in the painfully slow process (for me) of updating all the "crunch" on my profile; I've got about 4,800 gold left over and have marked spells that I'm not 100% attached to if anyone has any alternate suggestions. I also have yet to choose a teamwork feat for my tactician ability; right now I'm leaning towards either Allied Spellcaster, Shielded Caster, Tribe (Crew) Mentality, or Precise Strike. Any input would be much appreciated!

Edit: Also, pretty much all of my experience with Golarion comes from the first two modules of the Second Darkness AP, so any suggestions on appropriate Golarion-specific languages would be great!

Since her marriages are generally more of a business arrangement more than actual love pairings, she often goes and pursues her own interests, so it's not entirely out of character for her to go out of town on a whim. Particularly when there's adventure to be had. She's not one to sit idle and watch the world from the safety of her parlor window. Someone trying to mug her? Punch the mugger's lights out and continue on her way. See someone else getting mugged? Pursue the mugger then punch his lights out and continue on her way.

Her daddy taught her some good, down to earth lessons in morals and ethics that have stayed with her all these years. Not to mention the fact he taught her to fire a bow while they hunted together through the wilderness. A lack of comforts is something she can cope with, though getting back to them gives her all the more reason to get things done with an efficiency that doesn't leave her in the backwoods too long.

That said, I certainly wouldn't oppose the death of yet another of her spouses. It'd give her a more personal reason to get involved with the introductory chain of events. I mean, sure, they are business arrangements, but they aren't entirely meaningless. These are good men! Not to mention her source of income!

(By the way, the reason she has no money of her own despite inheritances from several deceased husbands is she burns money that fast. And not on lasting things. Things like dinner dates, vacations, throwing parties, etc.)

@Victoria- Most of my concerns right now are related to mythic vital strike, and swearing that off would solve them (though I feel kind of bad about that option because it would still be available to other PCs or enemies). In the long term I'm also concerned about how the archetype's 19th and 20th level powers synergize (particularly with a tetsubo), but maybe by that level that wouldn't be too disruptive... Maybe? It seems like the easiest/safest solution would be to switch archetypes/full martial classes, but if you're really attached to it we can work out another solution.

Oh, here is Avaria's spellbook. Looks like me and Rimy Jim don't overlap much, which is great! Me and Victoria double up in a few places (dispel magic which I don't see being an issue, fireball again no real issue, and black tentacles which is probably not a big deal either tbh). I might have a peek to see if there's anything I'd like to take instead of black tentacles (I'm SURE there is SOMETHING I can find :P).

Spellbook:

5th (prepare 1/day) — cone of cold, dominate person
4th (prepare 2/day) — black tentacles, crushing despair, dragon's breath, phantom chariot
3rd (prepare 3/day) — dispel magic, charitable impulse, fireball, heroism, phantom steed

Most of my damage should come from my bow or AoEs like fireball. I'm going to go through the spell list again before finalizing everything, but I think I'm pretty happy with it so far. I'm totally willing to take suggestions though!

Victoria, your HP should be the better of the two classes, not both classes added together. (so 10+ 7.5x10 plus 33 from Con + 5 Mythic (123) plus any other bonuses).

Avaria, yours should be 3 higher from Archmage HP.

Jim should have 4 more for Marshal?

don't worry about your stats, i already audited them

I know its extra time, but if you're able I'd appreciate it if you could all break down your skill similar to how Graverattler has (it makes it easier for me to check things and it will help you keep track of bonus types and where your ranks are).

Audit #1- Graverattler
- I may be missing something but it looks like all of your saves might be +2 too high (it looks like they should all be at +7 base, +3 resistance, and your stat bonuses).
- I found your divine surge and path ability, but I can't find your mythic feat at all, did you pick one?
- I know the recruitment thread moved kind of quick so some posts may have been missed, but I did state that mythic items are not available as starting items. That means you'll have to drop the Stonefist Gloves (which, obviously, will change your unarmed strike damage every where it appears. Also, this is sort of moot now but you had your damage listed at 3d8 but I believe it should have been 3d6 for a functionally large 15th level monk.)

Audit #2- Avaria
- It looks like you took the School Savant archetype... if that's right please note it somewhere on your sheet
- If you have the archetype: you should have school powers but I don't see any... If you don't have the archetype you should have 3 more exploits that I don't see anywhere (and no bonus enchantment spells)
- It looks like you have 8 unspent skill ranks (arcane archer ups you to 4+/level for those 4 levels).
- Please pick your other trait.

You are correct about the saves. Herolab issue with Gestalt I didn't catch.

Mythic Feat is Natural Spell. Output just included a [M] to annotate this, I will change that to [+Mythic] to make it clearer.

Will swap out stonefist gauntlets for other items (probably bracers of armor, but will explore options.) The monk's robe makes my unarmed strikes as if I were 5 levels higher, so that's a 16th level monk (2d8/ 3d8 large). I will adjust damage accordingly.

Well, that's what I get for trying to do this all from memory I guess.

As for bracers of armor... that's an interesting issue there... technically, they grant an armor bonus (not an enhancement bonus) so they should be available even with automatic bonus progression... but then how do they interact? The item description goes to lengths to emphasize that they can't be stacked with any other form of armor, so I think I'm going to have to rule that if you're using the bracers you miss out on your attunement bonus (until/unless you can get more bonus from attunement in which case the bracers stop working).

I'm going to be busy most of the afternoon but I'll get to the other audits as soon as I can.

Settled on Boots of the Cat, Lesser Extend Metamagic Rod, Limning Amulet of Mighty Fists, Quick Runners Shirt, and an extra 1000gp worth of diamond dust.

Mythic natural spell requires normal natural spell, which you don't seem to have? Or does "+Mythic mean it's actually 2 feats? I didn't think to recount...

Also, I'm running to a meeting right now but try to find my post in recruitment about attuning unarmed strikes or natural weapons (I think it may also say something about AoMF)

Yes, I picked up Natural spell and Mythic Natural Spell. Would you prefer if I listed them separately?

I had read that the attunement would be halved for unarmed strikes(which I have accounted for), but I'll read through it more carefully.

EDIT: If I'm reading your other post about enhancements correctly, however, I wouldn't be able to add a property onto an amulet and keep the +1 enhancement. I'll need to rethink how I want to allocate funds a bit...

Yeah, basically you can use your attunement bonus as an AoMF but doing so functions as if enchanting 2 weapons (which is actually a better progression than half of one weapon). If you want to get an actual amulet it works like a weapon- you can't put any enhancement bonus on it and any abilities (like limning) eat into your attunement bonus.

Ok, went into skill enhancement items (Boots & Cloak of Elvenkind, Eyes of the Eagle), Quickrunners Shirt, Ring of Feather Falling, and a few extra doses of diamond dust. She probably has the 100gp worth of crafted bone items also, but those are all personal items.

I won't be able to make a full crunch update or post until late tonight EST, but I've been updating what I can via phone from work - I'll be shifting a few skill points around.

If anybody has any suggestions on that teamwork feat, I'd love to hear 'em. I've never really used any before, but it seems to me like an extra bonus to flanking or to concentration/casting on defensive would be the ones most likely to come up during an average combat.

The Outflank or Precise Strike are both nice for flanking bonuses, and I also like the ones that let you use an adjacent ally's roll on saving throws (Duck & Cover, Tribe Mentality). I also like Stealth Synergy.

Yeah, Precise Strike caught my eye but sadly I don't meet prereqs at the level I get the feat.

With as much melee as there is in this party, outflank would get a lot of mileage... And with your scimitar and Justinius' shortswords it could provide a fair number of free AoOs...

I actually got my feats mixed up - Outflank is the one I don't meet the prereqs for, while Precise Strike is an option for me.

Nate - A question on Stealth Synergy: Would everyone have to reroll their Stealth checks after the duration of my tactician ability was up?

Oh, you have to pick that at 2nd level don't you? For stealth synergy i wouldn't make anyone roll an unnecessary check just because the power expired, but as soon as a new roll was called for they'd have to make it on their own.

For languages, check out this list. Given the location of the adventure, Varisian is likely the most applicable; Shoanti and Giantish both make sense too. And if you've received any formal training Thassilonian would be useful (it's a dead language used by the ancient empire whose ruins dot this country). Given your background on the high seas you easily could have encountered any human language, or Aquan would make sense...

Audit #3- Jim
- it looks like your hp should total 137.5, which gets rounded down to 137 not up to 138.
- you have 6 levels of full BAB (+6) and 5 levels of 3/4 BAB (+3.75), so your total BAB right now should be +9 (+9.75 rounded down)

Per feedback from our glorious GM, I'm going to be doing some surgery on my character. Apparently autocrit-Huge-tetsubo-Mythic Vital Strike creates some balance issues. Which I am happy to amend.

Her new build will be:

Character details on my profile page should be complete; fixed HP/BAB, and moved some skill points around as mentioned. I chose Stealth Synergy for my tactician teamwork feat given Victoria's new build, and included Quick Draw as my default half-orc combat feat. I also switched my sword and all related feats to a cutlass, because apparently cutlasses and scimitars are technically different weapons despite identical stat blocks and, well, he's a pirate. I switched out a couple spells, too. Finally, I had a sudden late-night crisis of faith in my first tier mythic path ability choice, but in the end decided to stick with Lightning Performance.

If you see anything wrong with the changes, let me know and I'll fix them.

I'll have a gameplay post up first thing in the morning!

@Victoria- it looks like there might be a few issues with your gear... I believe the chakrams should be 18,801g (mithril) and 20,302g (cold iron) which would be basically all you can afford. Also for the mask- I think I said this publicly (I apologize if it was in a PM to someone else) but no custom items... You can pick any standard head slot item that you could create by taking 10 and get it at half price; you could even pick two head slot items and combine them by paying the extra 50% on one, but no actual custom items. Sorry.

@Victoria- I know this character overhaul is a big project but the sooner you can get your introductory post up in gameplay the better (even if the crunch isn't completely finalized). Also, I'm trying to start your Audit, though I recognize some of your stuff may still be in flux (and some is tough to figure out because your feats/talents aren't posted yet); a couple of things I've noticed:
- it looks like your Ref save is off... should be +7 base, not +9
- your hp look slightly off... should be 10@1st + 60 for 10 rogue levels + 3 from archmage + 33 Con= 106; +11 if using FCB or toughness (for 117), +22 if using both (for 128)
- when calculating your total attack bonus remember that any weapon abilities eat up you enhancement bonus from attunement.
- I think the confusion around the chakram pricing comes from you having craft arms and armor... If you refer back to the initial recruitment post (and clarifying conversation in the thread) I'm not allowing any half priced crafting at character creation [except for bonded items]; if you take an item creation feat you instead get an extra 5,000g (per feat) to spend to represent that you've saved money by crafting some of your own gear.

I have two questions, one about the rules of, and one a request for a change/substitution to, Jim's Arcane Duelist Bladethirst ability.

First: How does the enhancement bonus this ability grants interact with the automatic progression weapon enhancement? Does it stack as it would with the enhancement bonus from a traditional magic weapon?

Second, may I switch out the ability to grant the shocking and shocking burst to my weapon with the ability to grant frost and icy burst? These would be more thematically appropriate, but I don't know how the two damage types stack up in regards to game balance issues.

Were you referring to my chakrams and armor when you referred to "custom items"? Or just my mask? Can I create my own weapons and armor with Craft Magic Arms and Armor? Or should I switch it to another crafting feat?

@Jim- 1) yes; if you use the ability on an attuned weapon it stacks with the enhancement bonus from attunement. 2) sure; cold damage might be slightly more potent than electrical because fire creatures are vulnerable to it but I can't think of anything with electricity vulnerability, of course there are also more things that have cold resistance than electricity I think so it should mostly all balance out (and your right, it is much more appropriate thematically for you).

@Victoria- for starting gear you cannot take anything at crafted price (except your bonded item/mask). You get 5,000g extra to spend to represent having made some items at the reduced rate but you have to pay market value for everything. You can make items that are 'custom' in the sense that you're picking which weapon abilities you're putting on them (like your chakrams), or that you're switching the base item for (like the armor of speed that uses hellknight armor instead of full plate, or making an axe version of a frostbrand), or even by combining two items (like if you wanted your mask to function as goggles of darkvision and eyes of the eagle you could do that by paying the extra 50% for the latter), but you cannot just consult the magic item creation chart and make up new items (as it looks like you may have done for your mask).

Correct, although I expect the game will move at a fairly quick pace, so probably most of your crafting would be following the rules for crafting while traveling: basically if you can carve out 4 hours in a day (like maybe between setting up camp and sleeping) you can accomplish 2 hours worth of crafting... so, every 4 days you accomplish 1 day of work. If you can make the higher DC you could craft faster and I think accomplish 1 day of work every 2 days.


I'm finished with revisions. As I started to make alterations, I just wasn't feeling the build. I switched back to Str-based and took our GM's original suggestion. I changed my archetype, and switched my primary weapon. All of the statistics should be good, but please let me know if an audit finds any necessary corrections.

a word on languages and immersion
For the sake of immersion I like to use other languages in posts when someone is speaking something other than common. Rather than posting gibberish I type up what they're going to say and then run it through google translate. The translated text I use in the post (while the English goes into a spoiler for those who know that language. For consistency sake I have a list of conversions so that each language feels consistent. I'd like to invite everyone who's willing and able to join me in using that technique. Here is the list I use, it is not complete (because there are languages I've never used in a post before); if you have cause to use a language before I do feel free to pick one and post what it is in discussion. I'll post the link in the campaign tab too.

Game left due to change in work situation

Love the idea for consistency with languages. Especially as an Int character with ranks in linguistics :p I'll make sure to refer to those as appropriate!
