Truthfully, the writing was one of the biggest components of my selection process. And I agree, so far I've been really pleased with the quality and frequency of most of the posting.
Speaking of frequency, I know Justinius is at work for a few more hours but I expect he'll be posting as soon as he gets home.

I'll be posting in about 4 hours; sorry, my day's just gotten away from me a bit!
Rimy Jim |
And now I see that I'm second to last in initiative, so I'll gladly wait my turn.

I'm not really sure of the flow of events mechanics-wise (would Jim have dismounted at beginning of round before Graverattler's pounce? Should I have used a readied action to dismount?), but Graverattler may have some extra bonuses on her attacks from inspire courage/possible flanking.
nate lange RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32 |
for questions about the flow of events check the initiative order... Graverattler was last, so you quick dismount 40' from the giants where she was still standing (or you could ready an action to dismount part way through but that obviously jacks up your action economy); if she had gone first your only option would have been to dismount where she finished.
I know letting everyone post at the same time can be a little bit more complex/confusing than forcing 1 at a time 1 but it allows the action to move along at a much better pace (so we'll try to use it as much as possible).

Hey- I actually made a GM alias (finally). Henceforth i will be posting from this (as often as I remember)... Just wanted to point it out to keep it easy to spot my posts.

Wow. Avaria is right, the noble man's name is Aldern, not Aldritch... sorry. I just watched Iron Man 3 the other day (where the villain's name is Aldritch) and must have accidentally imported the name. I will be going back to Aldern from here out and I apologize for any confusion.

Heh, I just thought you were making some changes, since, you know, you're making changes an all :)

.....it was late fall when the caravan crept through the pass. Harvest had been late that year. Men and horses pushed their way through the muck as best they could. Misery so palpable, no one thought the night could get worse. When the goblins came down the mountain, they hit the horses first. Fires lit up the night. Horses cried out as arrows and blades dug deep. The attack went on for hours.... Goblins filled with blood-rage and men who knew their families would not survive without the wagon stores....I took a bad cut over my right eye early on, but I still saw plenty that night. Men I thought would fight who ran, and men I thought couldnt fight who made heros of themselves. Across the field, a boy, no more than 8, just a wooden tent stake in his hand, facing a cruel green and red faced monster, there was no way I could reach him in time.....a snarl and I spun quickly to my left and caught one in mid air....When I finished him I looked back to the boy. His blood would fuel my rage at our enemy. But no, there he stood. Looking over the lifeless goblin as if confused by his victory. As more of the creatures flooded the valley, he reached down and picked up the crude shortsword beside the stinking corpse and with speed I could not believe, slew the next closest beast, retrieving its weapon as well. I saw the boy that fatefull night. I watched him. Through blood and tears, sweat and rage, I knew if the morning came for any of us, it would not find the child the sun set upon. I took a wound to the head and all went black. It was daylight when I awoke. Roused by some potion or strong whiskey. I found the boy digging graves, untreated wounds still festering. "We do not bury our dead on the road, son." I tried to sound gentle, but that come hard after a night like that. "Our fallen are in the wagons already" he said. Blood dripped from a gash in his cheek. "These graves are for them" he said with a nod. Fourteen goblins lay in a neat row, arms folded across their chests, legs crossed as if rites had been given. He worked for 2 hours to see them all burried. No one helped. No one stopped him. Grief was everywhere and it seemed whomever was responsible for the boy was dead or had run off. As we all walked back to the village, he collapsed with exaustion. I carried him the rest of the way and took him to my home. As I laid him in the bed, he awoke just a little. I asked him his name and he squeeked "Justinius". I knew the boy had no place with me, so in the morning, I took him to the temple. Not because of what he could do......because of what he had seen.....

No need for brevity, you should just try to put in some paragraph breaks; it makes it much easier to read!

Hey all, sorry no consecration post today- the site was down for an hour or two which, unfortunately, happened to correspond with the time I planned to post. I'm on my way to bed right now but I will have it up tomorrow (by 11 or noon EST).
Thank You to those who are interacting with each other in the meantime- developing intra-party relationships is (IMO) vital to the longterm success of the game.

I plan on bonding with party members once we're out of this ruckus. Victoria is not a party girl. :)
Jim shares the Wu-Tang view on ruckuses.

I'm headed into a meeting shortly but I plan to post Aldern's arrival at the Rusty Dragon and the beginning of lunch when I get home (probably around 10pm eastern time). So you Avaria have until then to post anything that happens between 10 or 11am (the approximate time you finished primping) and noon.

Heh. Or...
Jim - " Introducing myself is really starting to tick me off. You obviously know who I am."
Aldern - "I do know who you are. If introducing yourself despite this angers you, it must be because you're ignorant. Let me explain to you how your opinion on the matter is wrong."
Jim - Dillweed.
Point of view, the spice of life! :)

Hey everyone,
This is the third consecutive weekend with no posts from Victoria, and the second since I PMed her about the hope/expectation of daily posting even on the weekend (as was stated in recruitment). To date she has not given any forewarning for any of her absences, or any explanation/excuse afterwards. It's definitely slowing down our progress each weekend, and hinders our momentum.
I'm inclined to do something to change the situation, but PbP's are a collaborative effort so I'd really like input from everyone else about how to proceed... As I see it our options are:
- accept this is her posting pattern and do our best to work around it
- give her another chance if she's willing to work harder on posting every day
- thank her for her early contributions but have her bow out before setting out with Aldern and either a) drop to 4 people, or b) recruit a new character that Aldern has also hired.
I hope this doesn't seem overly harsh but I want to be proactive about trying to keep the game on track. Feel free to PM me your thoughts if you're uncomfortable posting them publicly. Thanks.
Avaria |
I'd PM them but I think it's more fair to Victoria's player if I post my thoughts where she can see them and address any issues that come up. Always easier to comment on what you can see and I know it'd drive me mad if I thought anything was being whispered about me >.> Paranoia intensifies
So as I see it, the game was laid out as a once-per-day campaign, and for the first couple weekends it was no problem for her. After missing a Saturday, she didn't post again until late Sunday night noting that she hadn't realized this was a weekend posting game. Presumably it was clarified for her at this time that it was which is no big deal.
My concern is that the weekend after that, she was absent from the campaign on the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and it appears this weekend is following the same pattern of events. It looks like we haven't seen anything from her since Thursday and we are now into Sunday evening.
I feel like skimming over her on what have become three day weekends for her is not going to go well in the long run, especially during combat. That's a long AWOL time considering that means she's only posting four days a week.
I'm also hesitant to say give her another chance when she hasn't made any attempt to resolve this issue herself or even apologize or explain her absences. If she has and I missed it, feel free to correct me here or consider this point moot. The two missed Fridays are also not a good sign for this option, imo.
That said, if the others are game, I'm down to give it another go. But I'd add the stipulation that any missed weekend from here on out (unannounced or too frequent) is grounds for just saying this isn't working.
Rimy Jim |
I'd be fine with changing the required posting rate, but not with just "working around" someone who isn't going to regularly meet the agreed upon rate. While I honestly have no problem if she misses a couple days of RP as long as we just move the scene along and assume her general compliance with party decisions, I agree that combat will become untenable; waiting for two or three days to continue combat will bog the game down too much, and given the complexity of the characters involved, it would be unreasonable to make decisions for her.
I'm far from an expert, but it seems like the default "rule" on these boards is to wait for a week of silence from someone before just booting them, so I'd prefer to give her the chance to keep playing.
So I say either change the posting rate to accommodate her, or give her the chance to change her posting rate to accommodate the game.
