Shriek attends with a fine suite composed of a black fur jacket and white moccasins. He keeps his sword at his side scabbard though, as he is not comfortable totally unarmed.
"I am interested on those scrolls and pots. The summoning stuff looks interesting too. Although I am probably most interested in the birds. Do you think I can eat them? Grrroar!" comments Shriek to the rest of the party as the auctions are presented.

Samuel Soulkeeper |

Samuel will start with the opening bid, and go up to a maximum of 500 gp for the scrolls, 1000 gp for the potions, and 65 gp for the birds.

![]() |

Samuel starts the bid. The crowd is amazed that the giant bids on the most delicate of items. However, your bids are quickly eclipsed as large bids enter the arena from noble families. The birds themselves go for over 200 gp, and the potions for over three times your maximum bid.
Eventual a very frustrated bidder wearing a red cap with a feather in it grunts, stands and shouts, Very well! I must deliver this bad news to my employer immediately. I bid you all good day! He then storms out of the amphitheater, an awkward silence in his wake. After a pause, a jovial halfling says I suspect he didn't mean that last bit. This wry crack breaks the tension, causing laughter to fill the crowd. The auction continues with the next lot.
Eventually the last bid begins, but Solvi notices dark shapes on the horizon. These giant bat men rush the arena as the auction rises to a crescendo and the screaming starts...

The whole group decimates the young dragonling quickly and it flops to the ground and makes a deep whimpering noise and the life leaves the body.
When the screaming stops, the Baroness begins to step forward to congratulate the heroes for saving the day Praise to the conquering heroe.....
From out of the sky, an enormous black dragon with hunks of its skin rotten off and large black pits where it's eyes should be. In a deep, yet hollow wheezy voice the creature beings to speak I am Aeteperax, Lord of Dragonfen, and you have exhausted my patience. The wizard Hunclay promised me many things before his death, including five rare and ancient tomes. I made efforts to obtain these lawfully, but my representative, Clausyre, failed me. My forbearance is at an end. Now I require not only the books, including the tome entitled Secrets of the Dreaming Dark, but also an indemnity of 776,000 gold pieces-2,000 for each and every resident of this dunghill you call home.
I give you two weeks to deliver these to the place you know as the Monastery of Saint Kyerixus across the Dragonfen. None are permitted to leave Belhaim-my minions blanket the countryside, and all who dare leave this town shall suffer for it. Only those chosen to deliver my ransom may travel, and then only into Dragonfen. Should you defy me or fail to satisfy my demands, I shall lay waste to little Belhaim and kill every living inhabitant, down to the last mewling infant!
The dragon then wave its hands and disappears in a puff of black smoke..
The crowd erupts into a frenzy of screams and shouts and people begin to run everywhere..
What do you do?

Yasmin |

"Whoah! What!? Where did it go?"
Yasmin looks at Finn and Shriek. "Where did it come from so suddenly and where did it go to? Is that some magics?"

Samuel Soulkeeper |

Shriek looks around into the sky "Powerful magics they seem"
He looks at the people around "Well, I guess we will need to deliver those books. Any volunteer? Grrroar!"

As you begin to wonder what is happening, the Baroness yells QUITE! FOCUS! She then beings pointing frantically at several people. YOU! YOU! YOU! YOU! and then she points at all of you YOU! Follow me to the mannor. NOW! Having took control of the situation, you and Sheriff Benhovy, local stabler and former adventurer Lezara Dodgion, Abadaran priestess Eupaphenia Targas, and Bassy the historian, return with her to her manor home for a meeting.
The Baroness bursts into her own house startaling the footmen. She leads you to a cozy dining room at Devy Manor. The baroness doesn't waste time, and begins asking Eupaphenia what Belhaim could scrape together by pooling all its resources. The priestess thinks for a few moments before saying sadly 20,000 gp.
The baroness then says Even if every sale for the auction were immediately settled, it would be unlikely to bring the total up to even 1oo,ooo gp. There's just no way Belhaim can pay the dragon's demand of 776,ooo gp. Fine. Options-NOW! We have limited time and limited resources, how do we save the people of this town?
Sheriff Benhovy mutters send out a few of those Shelyn layabouts to distract the dragon for the good of the town, maybe he'll lower the ransom This is met with icy silence...
Next the Shaeriff more loudly says, Ravens! Send ravens and sendings to larger towns for help. If we do it now, help might get here just in time!
Lezara then suggests to town evacuated.
Eupaphenia suggests sending a delegate to speak to the dragon about paying in installments. All three begin to squabble under the watchful eye of the Baroness.
Bassy finally asks, Why don't we just kill it?
The room goes absolutely silent again. All eyes turn to your group, and the Baroness speaks up again, "I can't offer a monetary reward sufficient to lure you into undertaking so deadly a mission. However, I must ask: Will you slay this dragon for Belhaim? If you succeed, I shall raise each of you to the rank of Knight of Taldor. Little Belhaim and its inhabitants are lost if you don't prevail. What say you?

Samuel Soulkeeper |

Shriek looks at his scratched arms and ruined garments, he then says "I came here looking for protection and adventure. And I have found friends and become well received. If it is my fate to find death trying to save Belhaim from that beast, let's be it" he extends his hand to the center of the group "I am in! Grrrroar!"

Solvi |

"If we can come up with some kind of plan that has a reasonable chance of success, where success includes my living through it, I'm in. But I'm not going to commit suicide. That dragon looked VERY large to me, larger and older than we can possibly handle unaided"

![]() |

The little bard then speaks up "I 've been around for a long, long time, and one thing I've learned is that inexperienced illusionists tend to rely on overwhelming one's eyes and ears, but often forget the details. I was there. I saw the dragon. I heard it speak and roar. But I didn't hear it breathe. I didn't hear its talons scraping stone. I didn't feel the air stir when its wings unfurled. Certainly whoever or whatever we face has great power-if that truly was just an illusion, it was still a powerful magical effect. For all we know, it could even be a dragon-that certainly fits with what you learned from the kobolds. The name Aeteperax is an old one, and the original Aeteperax's bones should still be out there in Dragonfen, coiled a round the Crypt of Tula Belhaim. At the very least, if you can confirm those bones a re still there, then it seems obvious that what you all saw tonight wasn't really Aeteperax risen from the dead.
The Baroness then speaks up, Well then, we have a goal, an idea, and a way to achieve it. Here is what I propose-you strike at the beast now! Go for it's heart. I suggest you make your way to the Monastery of Saint Kyerixus. To help in your quest, I will give you the use of any lot sold in the auction. Gods know the bidders will not use them!
The bard presents a key to the group and says, This is my gift. I suggest a different plan. Lady Tula herself gave my grandmother this key over a thousand years ago. Lady Tula also made a strange request: "Keep this key safe until the need for dragonslayers rises again." I suggest you go to crypt of Tula Belhaim and gain the treasures within. But, it's been centuries since anyone has entered the tomb, and there are doubtless guardians and traps within to keep all but righteous and true dragonslayers away. However, securing the magical treasures within would certainly aid you in the coming fight!
These two look at you all as you choose what happens next...
Discussion happens, and after this occurs
Lezara Dodgion looks at you all with weary eyes. My days of being a crusader are done. I wish I could ride out with you, but I will be useless. I may not get the death I longed for and will settle for comfort and a bed, but that doesn't mean my sword has to! She raises her sword to you all. Someone take this! It's a flame tongue. May it serve you well! Roll of with melee characters who want a flame tongue weapon. Winner gets to choose the weapon's type.
Eupaphenia Targas looks at you all. Abadar always helps where he is needed. We will provide you any spell casting services you need at a steap discount. Lexara then gently elbows the priest in the bad. I...I...meant to say free! Sorry for the confusion.
All eyes then turn to the sheriff. He looks down for a second, mutters something you're sure you really don't want to hear. Then he takes off a ring. This has been in my family for a long time. It's kept my granda, my da, and me alive more times then I care to count. Use it well, but bring it back when the dragon's dead. He puts a ring of protection +2 on the table.
When you are about to leave, you hear a thump at the door. The footman is brushed aside as most of the town enters the room. The Baroness looks angry for a split second before she regains here composure and realizes whats going on. Ahead of you you see most of the town gathered in the hall. The bring with them meager things they can carry or take from their town. These things are set on the table, and scared looking towns folks, men women and children, look at your with wide eyes filled with hope and fear. They are silent in their gift giving procession. When they are done they leave you this:

Yasmin |

Yasmin nods at the gnome's plan. Then her eyes widen when Lezara raises her sword. When the townsfolk enter she speaks
"Thank you for your gifts. We will make sure we will put them to good use and return them once they are not needed anymore."
After the townsfolk have left she picks up the short sword and twirls it in her hands "My vote is for the tomb, it never hurts to obey the founder of a town."

Samuel Soulkeeper |

Shriek greets with emotion at all the support received by the villagers "Pick the Lezara's sword yourself Yasmin"
He then takes the +2 longsword, the +1 bashing shield and the golembane scarab.
"Let's head towards that tomb and unveil the secrets there! Groarrr!" shouts Shriek taking the key from the bard's hand.

You gear up, rest up, and drink up as the town hosts a small somber party for you. In the morning, they gather as you head out. You're their last hope and you can see that in their eyes as the villagers gather around the main road to see you off.
You track through idyllic country side as you make your way to the crypt. It's beautiful country of rolling hills and far flung fields. When you get to the bog, you know your close. Eventually the beauty fades as you delve deep into swamp.
Even hundreds of years after the dragon's fall, its bones are an awe-inspiring sight. The skeleton has partially sunk into the bog, but enough remains that it still appears to be draped over a low, earthen mound. On the side of the mound is a stone door with a single, rough keyhole.
Who does what? Who has the key? What's the marching order? Also, I updated the map

"Take the swords, that's your thing. Same for the goggles" comments Shriek to Yasmin.
Shriek advances through the bones place, catching the details around with Yasmin.
