So...it looks like Ressir somehow knows that Karnath is a vampire, hmm. So either he has connections that he is hiding from the citadel (and believes that no one was scrying on him when he said that), or the citadel knows...hmm...so maybe the royal eyes know also (although Xov definitely doesn't--there's no reason for anyone to have told him in his back-story).

Only a few people know that Kaius III is actually Kaius I. Ressir isn't one of them, he suspects Kaius III is a vampire, though. So he calls him the Vampire King.
IIRC the high priest of Vol in Karnath knows he is a vampire (because Vol told him), but not that he is Kaius I.
Now, as to Ressir, the question is: who is the "vampire king's special agent?" Initially I thought it was Essar, but it might be that other woman, hmm...

gm how does Versatile Channeler work for a level 1 character? as I normally channel postive energy not negative, so how would the 2- to level work with channeling negative energy?

First the Blood isn't a deity, (despite Vol's best efforts). Secondly This is eberron, this ain't Faerun we don't have the avatars of a thousand or so gods running around bedding every mortal in sight.

Also remember that this character is pretty much a heretic, he helps the Blood in certain matters but ultimately he wants to kick out the undead running the show. Further more to this character at any rate the road to immortality revolves around both death and life. As such his ability to use both is thematic.

And yet, the religion you follow is Lawful evil in Alignment and that fact therefore dictates that you would be a negative energy channeller.
And you forgot to mention that Eberron wasn't cast in black and white. Your paladin casting detect evil on everyone would most likely get thrown in jail because he was invading someone else's privacy than get a pass for being a paladin.

Okay, I'm confused--what is actually happening in the fight right now?
Too many people are confused where everyone is. So I'm downloading the FR CS in order to use the Old Skull inn so that people will know where they are.
First, get (almost) everyone in our party out of the inn...we're mostly there already. Xov will use Deeper Darkness (SLA) on a table or something. Assuming the inn has normal lighting, this should make it dark, and it has a 60 ft radius, so it should cover the entire inn. Xov can then exit the inn as well. Unfortunately, based on where the door is positioned, I don't think we could open the door without having the magical darkness spill outside (otherwise it would be easy to lure them with sound into a trap while we could all still see). However, Xov can then dismiss deeper darkness after we've had time to buff ourselves. Now, the door works as a bottleneck, essentially negating their advantage in numbers. If they all charge at once, that will make it easy to use area attacks (Essar can channel negative energy, Xov has color spray...does Danir have an alchemical item or something which damages a crowd of mooks?), and the encounter will end quickly. More likely, they won't all be the same distance from the door, so we wouldn't hit them all at once. However, I can Enlarge Person on Kyndril and Othan, who can block the doorway...then only one or two of them could attack at a time, making it easy to finish them, since their numerical advantage would be essentially moot.
That is why Xov is telling everyone to get out of the inn...
now, characters who enjoy tavern brawls might complain that Xov's strategy is not as fun...but winning in a manner which is less in-character-fun but more efficient is fitting with Xov's distaste for combat.
As a player, I don't have the same distastes as Xov, so I wouldn't mind if someone else refused to go along with it;)
Ah-ha! So that's your plan- I was wondering. Personally, I had Danir leave the inn because by the size of the inn in the map that we were given, Essar's channel energy should have hit everyone in our group except Xov and all but the back row of mooks and Danir did not want to get potentially badly harmed by indiscriminate use of area effect attacks. Originally I was going to buff and play the fight straight until I heard the GM's brawl guidelines and then decided to play it in that vein.
Back at the beginning of the battle he mentioned he was probably going to stay out of the battle as it was going to be too chaotic for him- maybe he's staying with that?
Othan is going to be mighty pissed when he wakes up... and probably blame the foul witchery of the blood. Rember he is in full shifter rage mode right now.

Not to mention that the DM is grinning evily at the interparty conflict that will come. :D
Question- since Essar let off channel negative energy in an area that included all of his teammates except Xov, were you giving him the benefit of the doubt by not letting it hit the rest of us or were you giving us the opportunity to avoid being hit because of his miscalculation?
I only ask because if the indiscriminate use of area effect attacks on his own teammates is going to be a motif for the character than I want to know so I can make sure to never be within 30 ft, of his, ever.
yes and burst attacks are blocked by cover, hence Ebran trying to get behind a thick support beam (knowing the door was too far away to get there in time)
20 xp? Seems kinda low, considering that that would make them equivalent to CR 1/20 monsters, and that would mean the whole encounter would "technically" be EL 1, while at the same time each mook wasn't really any weaker than a CR 1/6 Raven or Lizard, and the fight was a lot harder than the Huecuva. Oddly, this would make the mooks a lower CR than a CR 1/8 centipede:)
Ah well, they did go down pretty fast, I guess it doesn't matter:)
yeah i imagine the xp is a little different when it is done like "mook" rules and "mass combat"
i imagine it more like an RP encounter than a combat one, despite combat having been involved.
Makes sense, we went pretty light on the combat rules, and the mooks seemed to make "group attack roles" and the whole thing involved more RPing than combat, so yea.
