You're right! I thought the group was in front and you threw stones behind. I don't think my last post makes sense then, and I'm not sure what to do. I guess I'll wait.

Again, these things seem to shrug off the magical fires, not entirely, but enough that, even at this range, they are still standing. a follow up thrust strikes one solidly... but these freaks can take worse wounds. all are still standing. What do you do?

Roshan Kaur |
Roshan listens closely, running Cassandra's dagger down her back. She had been diligent in caring for the untreated blade. Her muscles tightened because it was cold against her back. There is none of the painful tugging. The pain began with the wine poured over the cuts.
"Not quite hell… I had faith in you as a good person, Giselona, but you are only naming Lady Daelorin to disrupt production.” Roshan takes a pinch of salt from the table and massages it into Cassandra’s shoulder blade. Where does she get off putting off a simple decision in the name of such a naïve stance as ‘save all the people’?
It’s not apparent through the blood and wine, but Roshan carved the stem and hips of a rose into Cassandra’s back.
I had hoped Roshan would have been interrupted before she could try this.

You reach the end of the hallway, and duck through the door, getting a brief reprieve from the arrows. You are in a wide open room, with a half dozen ornamental suits of armour on the far wall, and two more flaking the stairway up. atop the stairs is a large tapestry, probably relating some local legend, and a few doors. you're pretty sure the leftmost one leads back to your and Roshan's quarters.
You get halfway up the stairs before the arrows start firing again, this time, from a beam near the ceiling. What do you do?
Roshan
Giselona squirms in her seat, revolting at the site of your treatment of Cassie... Please, I didn't... How could I... She starts, her legs moving, as if she plans to run. It wasn't a total... How did you know? she asks. what do you do?
Ron
Your thrust is mistimed, probably as a result of your resent brain scrambling. no only does it go wide, but two of the pale things grab onto it, and wrest if from your grip (losing their own footing in the process) the other two are encroaching on you now, what do you do?
Tom and Belym
When the light illuminate the room, the first thing you see are the giants. Almost 10 feet tall (about as giant as you can get in a cavern) these things look deformed and hunched. three long, gangly libd erupt from the mass of flesh that is likely their torso, while the toothed head sits atop a serpentine neck
they charge on long, sturdy legs, rushing to snuff out the hated light, clawed hands drawn back. what do you do the rest of the room is empty but for Belym's rockslide, and its about 10 meters to the far wall
Roshan Kaur |
Victory is like ash on Roshan's tongue. She begins cleaning and dressing her and Cassandra's wounds. "You're a sheep among wolves, Lady. Your cohorts drool over the withering masses, compelled by darkness or self-interest. You cannot afford this weakness. As near as I can tell, you are Eloen's only guiding light. I will swear to you that we will do everything in our power to avoid burning your people, but there may come a time when a hard decision must be made. I would prefer it be made in the people's interest rather than Briben's bottom line or Perrora's stubborn pride."
"Eat your fill, Cassandra. I feel something on the wind." Roshan crosses to the table and dons her chainmail.

Two thoughts rush through my mind:
1. I'm nearly to Roshan and no sign of Percival. I have the worst f**#ing owl.
2. If she's ahead and above me she's likely a space-bender. I need to make sure she follows, which means I need to force her to blink away.
I lunge up the tapestry and kick flip off the wall, closing the distance.

I... I will try to be better, lady Ralorelei says, head bowed in shame.
Just as Casandra tucks in, Conwall's metal owl apears at your door, gesturing and hooting frantically. Either little Timmy just fell down a well, or Conwall needs your help. What do you do?

For the record, there's still a couple hallways between you and Roshan
Your flying leap achieves its aim, she twirls her cloak, and blinks away. but your sword is able to catch her belt, and force her to leave it behind (Skysteel cannot be teleported away from its wielder's hand). her sword and knife (both simple smokesteel) both dangle from it. if you can corner her, she now lacks melee weaponry. what do you do?
Belym
Your palisade gives your group some breathing room, but the force of it destroys one of the walls, opening a hole to the lightless abyss beyond. something appears at the edge of the light byond it. meanwhile, those Things try to batter the pallisade. what do you do?
3, plus the normal ones Ron is facing. and yes, you can hear him
Tom
Your whispered spell draws the "thing" forward. it is large, large enough that it needs to crawl through the hole, and only stands within the chamber itself. it seems to easily switch between bipedal and hexipedal motion. it stands 12 feet tall, with a large, toothless maw, a long, prehensile tail, and thick, slimy skin.
it is definitely closing in, what do you do?

Hack and Slash: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 4) + 2 = 12

Spending 1 hold to deal 6 damage to the creature as well.
As a new foe steps forward, Tom pivots and throws himself at creature's legs when it is bipedal cutting them. It falls to a crawling position easily, but it gives Tom enough time to bring Einora's sword up and catching the creature when it falls in a predictable pattern.
I hope Ron is having an easier time.
Belym |
" Ron! In here! " Belym calls. She stomps her feet, and several pieces of rubble fly up from the collapsed wall. She draws her arms in, they hover toward her. She thrusts her arms forward, and the stones fly, trying to shove the giants away from the barricade and down into the abyss.

"Conwall's bird?" Roshan returns to the table and gathers her blades. "Apologies, Lady. I must go to check on my associate. Come, initiate."
Tossing Cassandra's chakram to her, Roshan hurries to follow Percival.

Cornering her is the last thing I want to do. I need to get moving before she coalesces again. I drop down to the ground and race through the doors. I need her to think she's chasing me, instead of me leading her.

The giant creature absorbs the blows without flinching, despite the fact that you've cut a pair of deep gashes into it's belly. it rears up, opening its mouth in the manner you've come to associate with breath weapons. What do you do?
Belym and Ron
Belym sends the stone door flying, sending all of your group flying.
Ron, the one on top of you is dead, hit by the door after it had time to rotate, the other two were thrown farther than you, and are retreating, spear still in your hand. meanwhile, Tom and Belym are menaced by a monster, while 3 more giants are breaking through the barrier Belym clearly used to stop them.
What do you do?
Roshan and Conwall
Conwall rounds the corner to the hallway adjacent to your chambers, just as Roshan and Cassandra go through the door. Meanwhile, Conwalls ears catch the drawing of a bow. what do you do?
Roshan Kaur |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Roshan slides the crossbow forward from the loop of leather at her back, her pent-up wrath pouring out in a red haze. "Conwall? What erk-" Before she can aim, or really even see what's going on, the red haze of her wrath dissipates in the blink of an eye, and the color drains out of her face before she falls face first onto the floor.
Behind her, Cassandra stands, wreathed in red light, casting out her hands in strange figures. She cackles with delight at having finally found a way to wield her magic.
Defend: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5) + 2 = 10

Crimson bubbles form around Conwall, Roshan, and Cassandra.

Roshan Kaur |
Roshan hauls herself back to her feet. She's pale, but breathing, and she draws her longsword and shield. "We need to restrain her, corner her, something. One does not simply talk a murderous elf down. I'm assuming a swift dispatch is out of the- what is that in your hand?" Roshan is mortified by the limp creature in Conwall's free hand.
Conwall |
Its not a dead baby if that's what you're worried about...
I set the monster down on the ground and turn back to look at the approaching Point. With her sword missing she'll be easier to corner...and less likely to stand still long enough to corner. I rush towards her and fake like I'm tripping to prevent her from teleporting away.
2d6 + 1 ⇒ (4, 2) + 1 = 7
I stumble harder than I intended and dip to the ground. If she's going to attack me, now's the time, but I'll be able to grab her when she does.
Roshan Kaur |
Less because there is any mechanical advantage, and more because it's what would happen anyway...
Roshan coughs a sardonic laugh and mirror's Conwall's motions, hoping to flank and overwhelm the elf. With her wrath diverted into these shields, Roshan's motions are sluggish and unsteady.

You wanna catch the things in the breath attack? That won't be too hard (no roll necessary) but you'll get caught in it as well

Ron Bucanero |
Ron, I thought you were right under the big one?
I was, but Backstab lets me choose not to remain in melee with my target, so I was thinking narratively I'd be ducking in, striking, and then ducking out. If one or more of the giants are on the ground, then I thought I might be able to charge them for another backstab. Rogue-Fighter-Mage style.

Roshan Kaur |
Roshan has Conwall help her move the elf back to the interrogation room, and ties her down with significantly more rope than was used for Lady Jodithas. Cassandra finishes her lunch while Roshan brews tea from a waxed parchment envelope that she digs out of her usual tin canister. She's not dragging her feet by any means, but she does spend more time than should be necessary 'making sure' she can't harm the elf.
"This plague has confirmed ties with occult activities. I do not know yet if there are any ties to the Transgressors, but would it not be safer to treat this elf as you have treated those previously? She has already shown herself to be a liability. Need I explain how she might react to my own past- or Ron's recent dealings?" Roshan's eyes are drawn to the creature Conwall still holds.
When the tea is done, Roshan pours a small cup. "This has not been used on an elf to my knowledge. It is quite rough on a human constitution, but it is used to clear the influences of charming magics and mesmerism. Quite disruptive to inquisitions as you might imagine. We will know if it works from the weeping."
