Roshan turns to Conwall as she organizes her notes. "These limitations are frustrating. I can see in her eyes that Briben is holding back, but I'm unsure if it's some grudge she holds, or resources she is holding in reserve for a coup. Still, Enrel is next. He is likely to show some resistance..." Something occurs to the templar and her eyes flit around the room. "This was meant to be myself and my initiate here. Two persons for each stake..."

Is Cassandra here, and did the Duchess post guards in the 'audit' room?

Tom

You believe that you have found the last onf the Ankhegs, and the gryphon is not likely to pursue you through the relatively small opening... you are relatively safe down here

You are free of interlopers, and a powerful spellcaster. I would say you are in control here.

This tunnel is too large and well made to be The Ankhegs.... someone or something made this.

Roshan

Of course Cassie is there. and the Duchess' guards are posted outside the room, to lowly to be given admittance to such private meetings.

Enrel enters, absolute hatred in his eyes. You dare to question my authority! my loyalty! You are nothing but an up-jumped thug, and I will not subject myself to your inquisition! he says. you can see plainly that he has a sword at his belt, but with Merrick, Cassie and yourself in the room, he is no threat. he will, however, need to be calmed... or restrained to be questioned. what do you do?

Conwall

You eyes alight on a small ring upon the desk you sit at, one you are sure wasn't there 10 minutes ago. It is made of living silver (silver which is enchanted and alloyed to always perfectly suit the owner... within reason), with a sparrow design on it. what do you do?

Belym lowers her stone arm between the ankheg's mandibles ( Hopefully that'll keep it from severing the leg ), then draws her hammer and tries to shatter the mandibles with it. "A little stuck here!" she calls out in response to Tom, her voice tinged with pain.

As Enrel enters, Cassandra closes the door behind him. She has been ordered to open the door and call in the guard if Enrel draws his blade. Roshan and Cassandra have put their weapons on a table by the door, many paces from the desks where they sit, but in the room.

Roshan bares her teeth in an inhuman expression of gratification and seething rage. “You mistake yourself for having a choice, Lord Enrel. You see, you’ve already voiced your distaste for my order’s methods, and Lady Briben has only minutes ago left quite satisfied with my treatment of her. She certainly appreciated the gifts of saltpeter we made to her alchemists. In the morning, you’ll find that many of the other nobles will have similar experiences, and whether you cooperate now, or I have to give my initiate a hands-on lesson in torture methods that do not leave visible evidence- no one will take the word of a solitary man whose prejudices are known.” As she continues, red steam rises from the scars on the side of her face, and her eyes glow with a faint inner light. “You’ll be seen a fool for questioning the Duchess and her supporters, and any noble looking to avoid scrutiny will jump at the opportunity to cast you in a suspicious light. There are two ways we can do this, Lord Iartis Enrel of the Red Stallion: you can cooperate, and tell me the truth, or you can suffer... and tell me the truth. I’m not here to break an honest man, but I will enjoy doing so if you let me. So... if you would be so kind as to take your seat.

Listen, cause I'll only tell you this once. I want the plague cured more than anyone in this thrice-damned court! I've funded more physicians and alchemists, more charlatains and "holy men than I care to count. I'll be frank, I don't think you're any different

I have not involved myself in the efforts personally due to the risk of abandoning the court. If i were to leave, I cannot ensure that they will not burn it own.

If the nobles are willing to try to cure our subjects, I will happily work with them... Otherwise, they may burn in hell.

Going south, you sense the tunnels becoming less and less... pleasant. eventually, you come across a large "chamber" of sorts. to the right are a set of stairs, perhaps up to the surface. forward, the tunnel takes a sloping move toward the heart of the mountain.

the passage downward is noticeably better made, dwarfish craftsmanship, and exceptional at that. The passage emanates vastness, you know that isn't just a little passage. from the passage you hear the sound of shallow breathing, and claws scraping. What do you do?
