Ron takes the knife and a healthy supply of food and some other supplies as well (1 dungeon ration 5 uses and 1 adventuring gear 5 uses sound fair?). He closes his eyes, and attempts to feel the knife in his mind. He smiles grimly as the room momentarily flashes green-red.

Cast Invis: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 1) + 3 = 10

He then puts out all but one torch and douses the food stuffs and supplies in lantern oil. He slides his back up against the wall next to the door so that he will be able to slip through when it opens. He holds the torch in a nearby sconce and settles in to wait for the next guard to open the door.

It seems to be preying on emotional connections without backing it up with more powerful illusions. Calling attention to inconsistencies, like "where did Ron go?" or watching Danyal's forms. The illusion of Danyal can't do anything Roshan can't remember, and it didn't make a smooth transition when it attacked. With Cassandra's guard up, Roshan is still able to question what's going on, she just hasn't been given any reason to doubt Danyal. That or stab the hand that's got a grip around her neck. Riskier, but more straight-forward.

Hmm. Ron isn't really sure where his power comes from, except that he seems to learn new tricks when Remorse kills demons or touches demonic altars. So I can't imagine anything bad would happen ... How about this: You see a very quick montage of the moment of death of each and every demon that has fallen to Remorse over the centuries (since long before Ron became its current wielder), plus an overwhelming sense that Remorse wants to pierce this doppleganger's heart.


Ron

About 20 minutes after you finish your preparations, a heavily tattooed person enters the room. What in the hells? they say, drawing a kriss. Come now, Show yourself, if we were going to kill you, you;d be lying in a pool of your own blood. The lord wants to speak to you.

Belym

You snatch away Ron's spear, just before wRong's hand reaches it, as it closes on thin air. It Snarls and lunges at you, hat do you do?

Conwall

The illusion was incomplete, Shock her out of it, make her see the inconsistencies. Yvette says, what do you do?

Ron cautiously reaches out and touches the person on the back.

He releases the torch as he reappears in view behind the newcomer.

He whispers. Shh, friend. They might hear us. He closes the door.

He reaches out gingerly and removes the Kriss from the person's hand.

"That's right... You, Conwall, Ron and I came here. Danyal wasn't there!" Belym focuses on warding off the creature's attacks with Remorse as best she can, striking when the opportunity presents.

Defend Self: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 5) + 3 = 13

Spend 2 of that hold to deal twice my level (14) damage. Saving the last to halve damage or provide a +1, as needed.

Roshan looks at the spear, breaking her stance to clutch her head. There is a flare of wrathful plasma around her head. "We came here... with Ron. A demon. This creature... takes the faces of those we know." There's one final flash, and Cassandra sags against the far wall, sweat beading off her forehead.

Roshan's shield thumps against the floor as she draws her cobold blade, charging at the creature that dared to wear Danyal's face. She brings the talwar down to meet a thrust from her iron long sword.
Hack & Slash: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3) + 3 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 3 = 7

The creature parries, throwing the templar's stance wide, and Roshan twists, taking one spiked fist under one arm, and driving the talwar into the creature's back.


in the locked room

wRong reels as Remorse plunges into him, once, and again, but lashes out with his claws, Same as last time before whirling toward Roshan, and tearing into her with his teeth Yet again, b[2d10], 1 piercing before she can fully realize the situation, only to be eviscerated by her cobalt blade. it slumps to the ground, a pile of mangled flesh. what do you do?

in the darker locked room

by releasing the torch, do you intend to set the oil soaked room afire?

Not yet on setting the room on fire. That was the plan if more than one guard showed up.

It's always cultists, isn't it? Does this ancient power have a name? How about the leader? Also, did ye happen to catch where this outpost is in relation to the nearest city?

How long? How long has that been not-Ron? How could I not have seen it?

Belym is quiet, as she pulls out some bandages and begins tending to her wounds. "Best be ready... We probably attracted a little attention with that, " she says eventually, gesturing at the hole in the wall and the mound of stone around it.

I grabbed Tom's massive supply of bandages, so plenty for everyone. Spending 4 sets on myself, 27/28.

Roshan cleans and sheaths her blades and recovers her shield. She will also spend some time binding wounds. "I know not how well we can trust Ravabella, she is the only noble we have not encountered before. Although, it would seem she is at least willing to spare us from the gallows."
4 uses of bandages would bring Roshan to 23/24 HP.

I take some bandages too, from my earlier injuries four takes me to 25

I survey the scene. So...did we just kill Ron? What happened? And when is Tom getting here? I can't believe I'm wrapping my wounds like an animal instead of just having his false god close my cuts.


Ron

They are fearful, they don't speak it's name, just call them "the old, deep ones" The cultist says. The leader is a man called Uxfaris. He's mad, Ron, absolutely mad

Apparently, the nearest settlement is Dwarfish, we're less than half a day from the city of Bogdoruhl. Do you think you can get there, Ron?

In the locked room

That's gonna take time, you guys, also, you only have 11 bandages. someone's gonna have to use 3. are you guys going to leave the room, or wait for someone to come for you?

I may have misread Tom's sheet; I thought it said "11 sets" = 33 uses. Regardless, I had 4 uses myself, so 15-12=3 left over at worst.

"No...maybe? I'm not sure. As for Tom..." Belym somberly recounts their ill-fated expedition. "... So in short, Tom's dead, I don't know if Ron's alive or not, and the aboleths are moving."

Whatever happened to our Farsight Stone? I don't see it on anyone's sheet.

I'm a bit taken aback at the loss of Ron. We were heroes...we deserve better than a death in the darkness. Still...

His sacrifice was not in vain. Hopefully there's some value to take from knowing the movements of the Aboleths...

No, you read right, mea culpa. it will take you guys a few hours to clean and dress all the wounds. are you guys gonna use them, or try to get enough rest to heal up, and hope it isn't interrupted? Also,

Oh, I was just trying to determine whether this guy deserved mercy or not. He does, so he won't be burned alongside the supplies. What would the charm person spout lore be about?

Once they are out of the room and Ron is behind the cultist he touches his hands together, pulling on the ancient power source here for aid.

Cast Invis (+1 for DR answer about old power?): 2d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (3, 2) + 3 + 1 = 9

Ron follows the cultist until he sees some sign that suggests an exit from this accursed place.

Roshan breaks a stretch of silence. "These are deceitful creatures. We cannot trust what we think we've seen. Ron is alive. Tom-" The Templar pauses to compose herself. "Tom is alive. Until we are rid of these charms and illusions, we can't afford to assume they are dead."

I'm voting for "save time, use bandages" - 'a few hours' sounds like less than a full Make Camp to me.

"I saw him. I buried him. It's not impossible, but...I don't think Tom is coming back."

After a minute: "Ron, though... Ron might be okay." She pulls out a round, flat package. She sits, cross-legged, with Remorse across her thighs and the stone in her lap, and focuses on a mental image of Ron.

Defy Danger Wis: 2d6 + 1 ⇒ (5, 2) + 1 = 8

Hoping this thing works on people; I think it was a +Wis roll to activate, modify as appropriate if not. That's a 7-9 on anything but Str (6-) or Con (10+).


Ron

you are led down a dark, straight halway. doors going off into what are proabbly more storerooms, nothing that looks like an exit. then he takes you through a large, heavily inlaid with cold iron.

Belym (and Ron, who does expirience these events, theres just a perspective shift)

you peer into the stone, and see a large room. one man walks in, followed by a shimmering emerald figure, who none of the dozen other figures in the room react to. to the left of the emerald figure is a massive door, made of cold iron, and warded with powerful magics. it is perfectly circular, with luminous gems set into it, in an unclear pattern. there is a brazier in the centre of the room, giving off strange and prismatic smoke. Opposite the emerald figure is another doorway, distictively dwarfish, probably leading up to a mining shaft, guarded by three cultists. and there is, opposite the door, a large figure, wearing alabaster robes, in contrast to the reds, blacks, and purples of the others.

Where is the prisoner? booms the white-robed man

I did na'... he was behind me, sir... the man in front of the emerald figure says

Where could he have- the man in white asks, before an underling, the one closest to the great door, speaks in a voice like a dozen brassy tones layers one atop another.

He is here, with us. and his allies peer at us through their connection to him. A pressure starts building as he speaks, making it harder and harder to hold the connection.

Very well the man in white says. come out, James, we've much to discuss, and we both know you can't hide forever. here, the vision cuts out, what do you do?

Oh, my bad. two up on a dais with Uxfaris, 5 around the brazier, and, as I said earlier, 3 in front of the dwarfish door. counting your "friend", that makes a dozen.

Roshan

Earplugs will cut off one point of contact, which makes charm effects take longer to take effect. be careful she can't touch you, or else that will bring it back to 2. also, ear protection will prevent her from giving you orders.

Trapped with a dozen cultists. Best try to survive this to tell that damn fool elf!

Ron moves immediately towards the dias and, without hesitation, jams the Kriss into Uxfaris' throat.

Backstab: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (1, 3) + 3 = 7

Deal damage +1d6. From Aggressive - Best of 2 rolls:

Damage 1: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + (1) = 7

Damage 2: 1d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + (1) = 6

As the battlemaster appears in front of the cult leader, he reaches a hand out towards the five cultists near the brazier.

Cast Fireball: 2d6 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (4, 3) + 3 - 1 = 9

-1 to cast. From aggressive - best of 2 rolls:

Damage 1 (ignores armor): 2d6 ⇒ (1, 5) = 6

Damage 2 (ignores armor): 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8

The brazier erupts into a ball of flame, engulfing the nearby cultists.

He immediately turns his attention back to Uxfaris, and drives the Kriss into the cult leader's belly. Didnae intend to hide forever.

Roshan relays the limitations of the commanding tongue, and establishes a few hands-free signs for regroup, retreat, etc.
Not sure if we need or have a use of gear for earplugs. Bandages?

Your blade sinks into Uxfaris, who falls to the ground, and desperately rolls away, while you burn the poor bastards who were around the brazier. all o them fall, none return to their feet.

on the other hand, the two guards who had protected Uxfaris closed, and drove their knives into your back 1d4+1. does this seem fair, you didn't choose not to get in Melee, then cast a spell, ignoring the fact that you were in melee.

Well played, James. Uxfaris says, back on his feet, holding a scythe and dagger. the worst of his wounds are closed now, and he stands about 5 meters away. But I'm afraid my lord grants me more power than the Emerald lady could ever grant you.

In the room

1 use of adventuring gear can get you a ball of wax large enough to construct earplugs for the six of you. Which part of the castle are you guys going to look for Sarah in?

More than fair. I forgot he had people next to him.

Ron rolls forward out of range of the two guards.

As he comes to his feet he points his finger at the door the three other cultists are guarding.

Cast Fireball: 2d6 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (5, 3) + 3 - 2 = 9

Spend that gambit to make that a 10.

Damage best of 2 from Aggressive ... hoping to blast that door open and catch the cultists in the blast too. Hoping that this has only taken a second or two and they are caught by surprise and haven't moved away from the door yet.

The door hangs off its hinges, damaged, but not broken. you sige the robes of the three cultists, who were closing in on you, and are now trying to spread out.

You have a brilliant mind, for a human, but you face minds more brilliant than any in history. drop the weapon, and do as we ask, and you get to live.

You see your "friend" trying to slip around, and get to the dwarfish door, what do you do?

Is this miasma some sort of effect that could be resisted? Spout Lore? Is the door open now? Is my friend going towards the door I targeted or another one?


oh, sorry. the Miasma is something that will dampen your magic, and make it harder to cast/less effective (no mechanical penalties, but story-wise, it will have less effect). and your friend is going for the door you weakened, which I assumed wasn't the giant, warded door. Which is damaged, but still shut, so He'll have to contend with it for a moment or two (if you can keep the other cultists off him.) Sorry I was unclear

I mean...I know where she was before, but Volsung just asked where we were looking, and I threw out a place. If we're having Conwall lead us back to her spooky tower, could we retcon instead? Unless we have reason to believe she moved to the castle
