Dungeon Master S |

The walls of this chamber are pocked with skull-sized cubbyholes, each containing a single brass or clay urn—some long since shattered or dented, others still intact. A lightly colored stone statue depicting a burning chariot wheel occupies the northwest corner of the room. Two iron doors on the eastern wall allow egress from the room.
In the center of the room is what appears to be a floating corpse. It's not animated, it simply hangs there...
Raen: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 (LLV)
Ushyle: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8 (Darkvision 60')

Doxon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 (Darkvision 60')
Hamilton: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Everyone but Vael and Ushyle sees that the corpse is suspended in some sort of clear, cubic, ooze!

WP thinks back to what he knows about things that live here:
Kn:Dung: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
WP then moves and attacks the cube:
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
damage: 1d3 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Dungeon Master S |

Indeed it's a Dungeoneering check to get details.
Whistle Pig's sling send a stone deep into the gel. But it's clear that it'll take a lot more than that to undo the beast

Round 1:
Vael: Go
Doxon: Go
Whistle Pig: Hit
Hamilton: Go
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Go
Cube: TBD
Cube: 6

Doxon Greyforge |

Hearing the cry of a bizarre gel creature ahead, Doxon girds his friends for the fight.
Doxon casts Bless.

Vael Oakfist |

Vael sees Whistle Pig use his sling, followed by the satisfying thwack of a sling bullet striking the ooze. When he hears Doxon call out a blessing from his god, the shaman puts things together. "More trouble? More vermin?"
Warhammer in hand, Vael moves into the room. Noting the ooze, he puts the weapon to use. Attack w/Cold Iron Warhammer: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
Damage: 1d8 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

Hamilton Renaud |

Ham sees Vale run in towards the cube and curses. He follows behind but upon seeing the gooey foe, he tucks behind the corner and holds his blade in a high guard, preparing to attack.
Ham readies an attack against the cube, triggered by the cube moving forward.

Raen Varkath |

Raen, liking this place less and less, wracks her memory. "I think... yes! I think so! Hey, Ushyle, Doxon, follow me!" She scrambles through the passageways, hoping the backside of the freaky ooze thing is accessible through that other door they saw this morning. Here's hoping it's not trapped...! Double move. I'll move and try to open the door to my west on my next turn.

Hamilton Renaud |

Raen, liking this place less and less, wracks her memory. "I think... yes! I think so! Hey, Ushyle, Doxon, follow me!" She scrambles through the passageways, hoping the backside of the freaky ooze thing is accessible through that other door they saw this morning. Here's hoping it's not trapped...! Double move. I'll move and try to open the door to my west on my next turn.
Nice! I almost did that.

Dungeon Master S |

The cube is already an easy target, but Doxon's blessing makes it even more so. Vael strikes it, knocking some gelatinous stuff off. Raen does an end around, with Ushyle following.
The cube then oozes over Vael! Hamilton makes a quick slash with his blade!
This movement draws an attack of opportunity from Hamilton regardless of what happens. Vael, however, can either make an AoO or try to avoid being engulfed via a Reflex Saving throw of the dice.
Round 2:
Vael: Go
Doxon: Go
Whistle Pig: Go
Hamilton: Go
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Go
Cube: TBD
Cube: 14

Raen Varkath |

"Hurry! Through here!" Raen rushes to the door opposite and opens it, standing back to let the others pass.
Move action: move to door. Standard action: open door.

Vael Oakfist |

Reflex save: 1d20 ⇒ 20
Seeing the creature slowly try and engulf him, Vael opts for some distance.

Dungeon Master S |

Raen opens the door, half expecting it to explode or send needles out through the handle, but nothing happens.
Meanwhile Vael avoids being engulfed!
Round 2:
Vael: Go
Doxon: Go
Whistle Pig: Go
Hamilton: Go and AoO
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Door
Cube: TBD
Cube: 14

Hamilton Renaud |

Attack of Opportunity:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Damage:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Ahhhhh... Somebody better think of something! Vael and I are about to really gel, here.
Longsword:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Damage:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Weeeeeeeeeeeee!
Whistle! Give us some room!

Dungeon Master S |

BOTH of Hamilton's swings find purchase. Steaks of gelatin slough off and hit the ground as the ooze continues to slide forward.
Round 2:
Vael: Go
Doxon: Go
Whistle Pig: Go
Hamilton: HITS!
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Door

Round 2:
Vael: Go
Doxon: Go
Whistle Pig: Hit
Hamilton: HITS!
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Door

Vael will take another swing. "This thin' won't stop comin' at me!"
Attack w/Warhammer: 1d20 ⇒ 15
Damage: 1d8 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
He then shifts 5ft, so he's by the doorway.

Dungeon Master S |

Vael awkwardly swings, but still connects!
Round 2:
Vael: Hit
Doxon: Go
Whistle Pig: Hit
Hamilton: HITS!
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Door
Cube: TBD
Cube: 32

Dungeon Master S |

GM PC of Ushyle: Ushyle rushes past Raen and closes distance to the other side of the cube.
Doxon too moves as quickly as he can, trying to cut the cube to pieces before his friends are absorbed.
Unfortunately he doesn't get there in time. Instead of sliding forward it thrusts a pseudopod of gelatin at Hamilton:
ATK: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17 but the ranger narrowly dodges it!
Round 3:
Vael: Go
Doxon: Go
Whistle Pig: Go
Hamilton: Go
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Go
Cube: TBD
Cube: 32

Vael Oakfist |

Vael is nervous, but determined to bash off bits of goo with his hammer.
Attack w/Warhammer: 1d20 ⇒ 19
Damage: 1d8 - 1 ⇒ (2) - 1 = 1
The poison continues to keep the strength out of his swings however.

Hamilton Renaud |

Hamilton ducks the pseudopod with a low lunge, thrusting into the cube!
Longsword:1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Damage:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
I may step 5' if the others choose to move a certain way.

Dungeon Master S |

Both Vael and Hamilton strike with everything they've got to try and destroy the cube before it moves to engulf one of them!
Round 3:
Vael: ATK
Doxon: Go
Whistle Pig: Go
Hamilton: ATK
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Go
Cube: TBD
Cube: 40

Dungeon Master S |

Doxon opts for an aggressive attack. His pick sinks in almost all the way to his fist. When he pulls the weapon out, the cube shudders, barely held together at this point.
Round 3:
Vael: ATK
Doxon: ATK
Whistle Pig: Go
Hamilton: ATK
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Go
Cube: TBD
Cube: 48

Dungeon Master S |

And the moment before the cube moves to engulf halfling and dwarf alike, Whistle Pig jabs his blade into the mass! The last connection dies and the ooze melts about everyone's feet. The body, as well as a large number of coins, spills out with a clatter.
For bravely fighting the gelatinous cube, each party member receives 135 XP.
Falling to the floor is:
A steel scroll case (itself likely worth 50 Gp)
Inside appears to be a scoll of some type.
A masterwork chain shirt (just needs a bit of cleaning)
A falchion
An amulet of Star Rose Quartz, which Raen values at 75 Gp
20 Gold coins
95 silver coins
144 Copper coins

Dungeon Master S |

Raen casts a simple spell to determine that the scroll is one of Hold Portal

Dungeon Master S |

Raen: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20 (LLV)
Ushyle: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24 (Darkvision 60')
Vael: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24 (Darkvision 60')
--->Tulia: 9 = 9 (LLV)
Whistle Pig: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Doxon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15 (Darkvision 60')
Hamilton: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

Dungeon Master S |

The party searches the rest of this room, finding a secret passage that leads to the furnace room. There's nothing remarkable about it though.
So now what?
You haven't finished searching through the ground floor.
You have finished searching the basement.
The sun goes down in 1 hour, and you know that the half-orc comes back "sometime" each night.

Vael Oakfist |

Breathing easier now that the gelatinous cube is jelly, Vael gets back to the process of looking for clues (and items that could be useful). "Let's check out that room where we found Othdan. Maybe whoever imprisoned tha poor boy left signs?"
He proceeds with the hopeful assumption that people follow along. Once there, he begins searching...
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
Sadly, he's probably not the most attentive dwarf. The memory of the cube sticks in his consciousness.

Vael Oakfist |

Fortunately for Vael, everyone (including Tulia) helps out.
Raen: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 (LLV)
Ushyle: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9 (Darkvision 60')
Tulia: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14 (LLV)
Whistle Pig: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Doxon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17 (Darkvision 60')
Hamilton: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18

Dungeon Master S |

Hamilton finds that the pile of coal is just a bit too neatly stacked. After a minute of looking, and getting some soot stained fingers in the process he finds a leather sack. Inside is a note that reads, Daktani for services rendered. - Skreed There are 55 platinum coins in the sack.

Vael Oakfist |

"Well now. I wonder who Skreed is, and what services were rendered. Whatever it was, they paid a lot for it."
Vael then continues leading the way. First he lets Whistle Pig climb back up the hole, securing a rope at the top so that everyone can climb with ease. Then he and the group head over to the northern part of the Plague House. Given the rough and unstable terrain, Vael looks over the sturdiness before walking into the area. Perception Take 10 for 15, or 17 vs unusual stonework.
As a group the party looks over the area.
Raen: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
Ushyle: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25 (Darkvision 60')
Vael: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21 (Darkvision 60')
--->Tulia: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19 (LLV)
Whistle Pig: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Doxon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 (Darkvision 60')
Hamilton: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Ushyle |

Ushyle confirms that Daktani is an Orcish proper name as he looks at the coins. Do the platinum pieces appear to be local? Ushyle does work for the Countinghouse, after all. Also, does he recognize Skreed?

Dungeon Master S |

I've moved everyone off the second floor of this area, as you can't get there from where you were.
Ushyle recognizes that those names are orcish, and the coins were minted in Belkzen...
Most of this room is in shambles, and the western wall has collapsed in a heap of rubble. A staircase to the northeast leads to a wooden loft upstairs; the area beneath the loft is filled with fallen beams, jumbled bricks, and other debris. Everyone but Doxon catches some movement in the rubble as a pair of man sized centipedes emerge!
Centipedes: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Raen: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Ushyle: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11
Vael: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Whistle Pig: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Doxon: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Hamilton: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8

Dungeon Master S |

Round 1:
Whistle Pig: Go
Ushyle: Go
Hamilton: Go
Raen: Go
Doxon: Go
Vael: Go
Centipedes: TBD

Ushyle |

The half-orc looks at the platinum pieces with some degree of awe. Sure, he'd seen this kind of value before, but never where he could actually grab them himself. When he comes back to himself a moment later, he shoves the coins back into the pouch, grunting, Belkzen money, with no small amount of disdain.
=============================================
Upon seeing the centipedes, Ushyle five foots in front of Vael and attacks with his greataxe!
greataxe, fatigued: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 - 1 = 10
dmg: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
The previous night's restlessness continues to plague him.

Vael Oakfist |

The centipedes come out of hiding amongst the rubble, Doxon's quick warning the only thing that prevents the group from being flat-footed. When Ushyle steps in front of Vael, the dwarf takes note. There's not many a half-orc that act as selfless as this one. I must remember to thank him.
With the threat of more vermin assaulting the group, Vael opts to help gird his friends for battle. He begins a chant, the sound a low and guttural drone as his eyes turn black. An invisible burst of energy flows from him, washing over his allies and raising their morale.
Cast Bless. +1 to attack and morale-based saves.

Dungeon Master S |

Even with Vael's blessing, Ushyle's swing goes wide, instead taking out a massive chunk of the wall.
Round 1:
Whistle Pig: Go
Ushyle: Miss
Hamilton: Go
Raen: Go
Doxon: Go
Vael: Miss
Centipedes: TBD
