Ushyle |

Ushyle fights off the sticky strands and moves his way down, though his boots stick to the floor several times, slowing him down as he shakes off the webbing.
Double move.

Dungeon Master S |

Ushyle moves out of the way. The sucking sound of the webs making an odd companion sound to the clacking mandibles.

Hamilton Renaud |

Hamilton closes with the spider and attacks with his longsword
Longsword:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
On Hit:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10 points of slashing damage!

Dungeon Master S |

Hamilton's blade strikes true! The cut is very deep, but this is the fiercest foe any of you have ever faced! It reels back a bit, but it keeps coming.

Pick, offhand: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4

Dungeon Master S |

Despite the target being blind, the spider still has some kind of spider-sense and avoids both picks and the sling stone!

Raen: Go
Doxon: Miss
Vael: Move
Whistle Pig: Miss
Spider: TBD
Hamilton: TBD
Ushyle: TBD (Entangled)
Spider: 14 (-1 to attacks/Perception, BLIND)

Raen Varkath |

How is that thing still alive?! Raen reaches around the corner, clamps her eyes shut fluff only and fires with all she has.
Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Dungeon Master S |

Raen opts for the sure thing, but it STILL comes forward. DM mistake in player favor, it wasn't blind. Too many HD for that. I've been running someone with a gnomish illusionist for a while autopiloted the HD calculation.
Back in action the spider turns on Hamilton Bite: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11, but its fangs are diverted by the quillion of his sword.
Round 2:

Hamilton Renaud |

The spider takes two small steps back and then lunges forward with a blindingly fast strike! Hamilton is startled, but gets his sword up at the last second and actually catches the fangs on his crossguard. The thing sprays venom and acid over Ham's gloved fist. With a roar, Ham pushes back and the spider flips onto it's back.
Hamilton reverses his grip and the point of the sword comes down...
Longsword:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Threaten...
Confirm:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18
Confirmed!
I seem to have much better luck when I narrate the attack!
Damage:2d8 + 4 ⇒ (4, 8) + 4 = 16

Dungeon Master S |

Then you must always narrate!
The blow is terrible, and would be enough to cut a man in two! On this day though it's a massive arachnid on the end of Hamilton's strike. The spider's innards quickly ooze out onto the floor, creating a mess in the room you've only barely looked at!
For slaying a man-sized spider, each member of the party receives 100 XP.

Dungeon Master S |

Whistle Pig doesn't give a hard look around, but he does find a hopeknife. It bears an inscription, "“For Rodrik, my love.”

Doxon Greyforge |

Open the door!

Dungeon Master S |

Forgoing the thorough search, Whistle Pig listens to Doxon's urging. He opens up the iron door exiting out of the Plague House’s main building. A large steel lockbox sits in front of a steep stone staircase that winds down into darkness. Crawling over it is a trio of dire rats!
Rats: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Raen: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Ushyle: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18
Vael: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
Whistle Pig: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Doxon: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19

Dungeon Master S |

Round 1:
Doxon: Go
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Go
Hamilton: Go
Whistle Pig: Go
Rats: TBD
Vael: TBD

Doxon Greyforge |

Hearing WP's shout of alarm, Doxon rushes through the door, making sure to leave room for his allies to enter the fray as well.
Pick: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Dungeon Master S |

Before the rats even know what's coming, Doxon's pick drives through center mass, killing the dire rat instantly!
Round 1:
Doxon: Kill
Ushyle: Go
Raen: Go
Hamilton: Go
Whistle Pig: Go
Rats: TBD
Vael: TBD

Ushyle |

The halfling was obviously jostled by his half-orc friend moving past him and alongside Doxon, drawing his greataxe along the way. After failing abysmally against the spiders, he hopes to redeem himself here.
attack, fatigued: 1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 - 1 = 16
dmg: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Dungeon Master S |

Whistle Pig can't hit his mark, but Ushyle cleanly cuts a second rat in half!
Round 1:
Doxon: Kill
Ushyle: Kill
Raen: Go
Hamilton: Go
Whistle Pig: Miss
Rats: TBD
Vael: TBD

Hamilton Renaud |

Ham pushes past his companions to get through the door, and he spies the dire rat. He's quick to draw his blade and he flows right into a slash from left to right, aiming to bisect the creature.
Longsword:1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Damage on Hit:1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

Dungeon Master S |

As rapidly as they're uncovered, the rats fall!
For defeating te trio of dire rats, each character receives 78 XP.

Raen Varkath |

I thought this place was just a burnt husk! There's a lot here. "We're not in that much of a hurry," Raen chides. "Let's be a little more careful." She starts to search, but the smell of the rats is distracting.
Perception: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (3) + 0 = 3 (previous room)

Vael Oakfist |

Vael keeps with Raen, and looks over all the things Raen does.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Dungeon Master S |

Whistle Pig doesn't find any traps or hidden chaches, though the box is indeed locked.

Dungeon Master S |

The lock is going to take some effort though...

Dungeon Master S |

Whistle Pig tries again, but the lock gets the better of him. On his third attempt: DD: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22 he finally picks the lock!
Inside the party finds:
- A potion of black and red swirling syrup
- Two scrolls
- A masterwork hand crossbow
- A case of scrossbow bolts: 10 each of normal, cold iron, and silver tipped.

![]() |

"Vael, Raen, could you take a look at these?" he holds up the scrolls and potions. WP inspects the crossbow. Far too clunky for everyday use.
"Anyone want to give this a try? The bolts might useful."

Dungeon Master S |

Raen confirms that only the potions and scrolls are magical.

Raen Varkath |

"That's evidence," Raen reminds WP, but she takes the crossbow and bolts. She carefully examines the potion.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Dungeon Master S |

It is a Potion of Darkvision.
Raen also casts a spell of Read Magic to identify the scrolls:
One is a scroll of Barkskin and the other is a scroll of Ghostbane Dirge.

Doxon Greyforge |

Down the stairs!

Dungeon Master S |

Down the stairs you go!
The stone stairs end in a stark subterranean chamber. Doorways to the northwest and southwest offer egress from the room. Around the corner to the south, a lone statue has been relegated to a dusty corner behind the stairs.

Ushyle |

The half-orc moves over to the statue, inspecting it closely. History has always fascinated him, though he has never had the ability to remember dates and names as well as a true historian would.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
He unfortunately exhales at just the wrong time and a billowing cloud of dust gets in his face as he inspects the sculpture.

Dungeon Master S |

Ushyle can see that the sword isn't part of the statue. It's an older style masterwork longsword.
Whistle Pig finds nothing

Vael Oakfist |

"If that door be safe, open it up Whistle Pig," Vael suggests. He forms up with the rest of the party.
Took the liberty of placing us before opening the door. I got the squishy folks sandwiched in the middle.
