Roman Andari |
Roman: since both giants are in melee, probably not possible to hit both with no party fallout. I'll assume you hit the Team Oskar one, since the other only has a few hps left.
Sounds good to me. Let's see if the giant is agile.

hmm .. brain dead ... didn't see the save that was right in front of me.
1d20 - 1 ⇒ (12) - 1 = 11
The giant is lit up like the Las Vegas strip.
"The Lucky Halfling" |
While Halflings are known for their agility, Harold shows seems to be unnaturally so. Having already managed to lash out at the giant in front of him three times, he quickly starts to attack once more.
1st Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
1st Rapier Attack Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
2nd Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
2nd Rapier Attack Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7 + 8 = 15
3rd Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
3rd Rapier Attack Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Should the giant fall before he has completed his attacks, he'll quickly move up the other giant and finish his attacks off on it.
3rd Rapier Attack Advantage Roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22 Should I roll a confirmation for this? I have a crit range of 18-20 currently.
Oskar Lutgehr |
Oskar makes a big overhand swing at the giants knee with his Battle axe and follows it with a quick slice with his Hand axe.
Battle Axe: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Adv: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Dmg w/Divine Strike & Divine Favour: 1d8 + 1d8 + 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + (2) + (7) + 4 = 18
Hand Axe: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Adv: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 Crit!
Dmg w/Divine Favour: 6 + 1d6 + 1d8 ⇒ 6 + (1) + (1) = 8
Malaki Davont |
Oskar you maximize Divine Favor on a crit too. The only thing you do not is the extra weapon dice.
Malaki lashes out in a swift flurry at the Giant, moving to his glowing friend if he is already slain.
Scimitar Strike: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26
2nd Scimitar Strike: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
3rd Scimitar Strike: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Advantage Rolls if needed.: 3d20 ⇒ (6, 13, 7) = 26
1st Strike Damage with Sneak Attack: 1d6 + 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + (2) + 4 = 9
2nd Strike Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
3rd Strike Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
DM Nerk |
@TLH I don't believe we roll to conform crits in Next.
The halfling's first thrust goes wide, but his second sinks deep into the giant's thigh, finishing him in a geyser of arterial blood. Harold skips across the gate and slashes the point of the rapier viciously across the second giant's hamstring. critting for 8+6+your original roll of 9=23pts.
Oskar follows up with two ferocious chops, a lethal slice with his battle ax that spills the giants guts, and a brutally powerful overhand chop that splits the giant's sternum. Malaki has the truth on divine favor and critting, though your first hit actually killed the giant.
Malaki hacks at the falling bodies of both giants as they fall.
Victory is yours. The two giants are dead. Between the three (counting the one upstairs) you discover several boulders and huge clubs, as well as rotting untanned hide 'armor' and several bulky but poorly made armbands and torcs of gold (giant sized, naturally) worth a grand total of 4000gp.
You are at area 1. All of the doors to hte north are closed.
It's interesting describing crits and kills when the attacker is knee high to the target.
Malaki Davont |
Malaki will keep a running tally of all loot unless anyone is opposed, including from our first foray in. Will update soon as I have to reread the thread, unless the DM knows what we found before.
Roman Andari |
"Lathander thanks you for your generous donation," Roman said with a smile on his face as he removed the band of gold from the giant's arm.
Silence spell is still up while we look around at loot. Malaki, I'm cool with you handling the loot.
Max Gain |
That's it, that was almost too easy
Also how is the loot going to be split in this game?
Eukaeros Shadowstep |
I am fine with Malakai tracking loot, if we get to a point where "weight" is a problem I think we can roughly hand wave that Eukaeros and Roman are stashing things in their respective bags of holding...but Eukaeros is a rogue and Roman is a greedy git (purely enchanted to be so but all the same LOL) so that might be fun. :P
Eukaeros frowns slightly at his wand and stows it, pulling his bow and quiver from his satchel. Well where to from here?
Max Gain |
Anywhere would be fine. Oh, did I also mention I have a little Druid in me. I can use my animal form for stealth if need be. The stupid giants will just think cat or dog, or whatever, they would be too stupid to think Druid.
Roman Andari |
"They'd definitely be too stupid to think 'druid'. But they'd probably take a look at you and think 'dinner' instead. So I'm not sure that would be safer. Still, it's a handy ability."
"Perhaps we should check one of the side doors?" Roman suggests. "But, then again, a side door would be more likely to be trapped. What do you all think?"
Malaki Davont |
Sorry about the delay, computer went down.
Malaki listens to all the talks, then points north, at the double doors leading into The Great Hall.
Assuming he has not moved, our prey was last seen in their, along with numerous Giants and his she b&%@# of a wife. Either we flank the hall, or rush in assuming they are prepared for us. To the left there lies a hall leading into a kitchen where we encountered numerous orc last time. They fell before our blades in a bloody joyous harvest, and what few that survived fled the premises. I can only assume they are still gone.
Malaki Davont |
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (18) + 12 = 30
Malaki will lead the way, scouting ahead as the group approaches the kitchen. He will maintain his Orc disguise, and in areas with no shadows or cover crawl along the ceiling where presumably most people dont look for intruders.
DM Nerk |
You advance through the hallways. The space is familiar to some of you, though far quieter than before. When you reach the kitchen (room 17), you find it empty. There are no signs of the bloodbath that took place here on Malaki and Oskar's last visit, but a few dark stains. Other than a few rats that flee on your approach, nothing seems to be alive here. It is a messy kitchen, but it doesn't seem to have been abandoned, just poorly cleaned.
Max Gain |
Max spends a lot of time searching the entire kitchen for edible food. Refrigerator, cabinets, etc. He will raid everything that doesn't have to be refrigerated and take it with him. For stuff that does have to be refrigerated, he will have a feast assuming the food isn't spoiled.
What food do I find?
Max Gain |
Okay, I don't take the cooking ingredients or stuff that spoils quickly within a day or two. I do eat the meat. Anyway for food that is food, how much does it weigh altogether and how many days worth of food is it, and how long does the stuff that last more than a day or two actually last? I know potatoes would last a few weeks, cabbage not as long.
DM Nerk |
You find the dwarf a little tough, the elf a bit gamey, but the long pork is delicious. Your alignment is now neutral evil. Potatoes and onions are pretty effective little calorie bundles, so I'll say a day's worth of food gathered there will weigh about two pounds. There are literally hundreds of pounds of each, so take as much as you like.
Roman Andari |
Uh, okay...I'm guessing our characters didn't realize what was happening because I'm pretty sure most of us would have stopped that. Also it's a safe bet that Max just ate the last adventurers. But let's get this a going.
"Max, will you put that down! This is no time to be eating. We have to secure this base."
"Alright, Malaki. Let's retrace your steps. Where to next?"
Malaki Davont |
Ill assume Malaki does notice, but chooses to say nothing.
Malaki points to the East door that leads into the hallway and then the Great Hall.
That is where we found our prey last time.
Malaki will stalk over to the entrance and listen for any sound.
Search: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Max Gain |
Max takes exactly 60 pounds worth of food, 30 days worth and heads out to follow the group. Will have to recalculate my new weight, but I'm sure I'm still in light load.
yep 160/180 light load.
Oskar Lutgehr |
Oskar stands by looking at Malaki waiting for his report on the hall.
"I reckon we should avoid a pitched battle if'n we can. Explore more of the suroundin' rooms see if we can't fight em with odds more in our favour."
"The Lucky Halfling" |
While Harold seemed to enjoy talking of his great accomplishments and skill with his blade, he now shows restraint while in the lair of their enemies. Quietly he will follow a safe distance behind Malaki so as not to give the stealthy man away.
Upon coming to the store room and watching one of his companions eat what is surely other humanoids, Harold's face will contort with disgust. How could he eat what very well could be his own kind. He would need to keep a closer eye on that one from now on. He would not want to find himself tied to a spit while he sleeps.
Max Gain |
Max gain will go in and examine the firepit.
Eukaeros Shadowstep |
Eukaeros follows and watches but does not act. When Max takes to easting the meat, Eukaeros will share a cocked eyebrow with anyone who looks at him for comment but otherwise is wordless. Is this a druidic premise of not wasting, or something...more?
The illusionist idly inspects the building as the group moves about but mostly he keeps his eyes and ears open for threats.
Perception {Advantage}: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22
Perception {Advantage}: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14
When we have to recruit group 3 to come back will it be because of marauding giants and an evil cannibal druid? Almost like a haunted mansion that gets worse and worse the more people that die? LOL
Edit: Clarified what I was responding to.
Max Gain |
to be clear, max went in the room, not in the firepit, he is looking down on it from above. seems like you misinterpreted eukaeros.
Eukaeros Shadowstep |
to be clear, max went in the room, not in the firepit, he is looking down on it from above. seems like you misinterpreted eukaeros.
No no, I was clear that you were just looking at the firepit, I was just using the haunted mansion as an analogy (horrible place that people keep coming back to) because you were eating people...or former people at the very least. I just thought it would be funny if we never got a group past this building but it continued to escalate in horribleness. Not that you are currently being horrible per se...just that it would be funny if that is how it this all went down. It was funnier in my head maybe. LOL
DM Nerk |
Eukareros: FWIW, I got a snicker out of it.
1d8 ⇒ 4
Those of you who have been in the great hall recognize the place. The last time you were hear, you interrupted a massive feast and slew several giants, including a cloud giant, as well as a handful of wolves and ogres. The bodies have been cleared away, the floor covered with fresh rushes, the platters of roast elf and other such delicacies cleared away.
To the rest of you, it appears as the feasting hall of any barbaric lord, only on a giant scale. There are long tables with benches, and roughly made chairs for the lord and lady at the high table.
Roman Andari |
Eukeros: So did I.
"It would be far too optimistic to think the giants simply left. Let us be thorough and clear the rooms one by one."
I suggest we check out that blacked out room under the 12 on the map. That okay with everybody?
"But first, gather round and receive the blessing of the Morninglord. For even the darkest night must give way to the dawn."
Cast Bless. It's a concentration spell that lasts for 10 minutes.
Whenever a target makes an attack roll or a saving throw before the spell ends, your blessing allows it to add a d4 to the result.
Malaki Davont |
Malaki calmly awaits the blessing, then gives a feral grin as the power rushes through him. Without further wasting of time, he pads over to the door to the southwest leading into the Great Hall, searches it for anything out of the ordinary, then throws it open to see what lies inside.
Search: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
Search check for the interior for valuables and such: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Assuming there is nothing pressing or too terribly important to take up further time once inside, he presses forward and begins moving north, scouting the passageways that he has not yet proceeded down.
I will scout out further north, moving ahead. If you hear a ravens call, come quick!
Stealth: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (19) + 12 = 31
DM, as a trained Assassin and such, is it ok that I would know how to make a few simple Animal Calls, for situations such as this?
Oskar Lutgehr |
Oskar nods at Malaki. "Don't go hogging all the giants though. you make sure you call us while there's still plenty for my axe!"
"The Lucky Halfling" |
"Ah, my sword arm feels all the quicker now," he would say after receiving the Morninglord's blessing and taking a few test stabs.
Then, as they move from room to room, Harold easily keeps pace with Malaki and at times even seems a bit impatient as if the group was holding him up.
Finally, when asked to stop and upon hearing Oskar's response, he smiles while chiming in with a, "Yeah! My sword arm is getting itchy with all this extra energy running through my veins."
DM Nerk |
Malaki: you have like ten thousand proficiencies and now you want bird-calls as well, too? I have no problem with that. But, can you tell me more exactly where you're heading? North along the western hall between the kitchen and the great hall, or into the less explored eastern side of things?
Before we go north....
The doors to the southwest open to reveal a weapons room. A dozen spears, clubs axes hang on the walls, and a dozen shields are propped against the far wall. There are four swords (longswords for giants, could be used as greatswords) and two maces so huge the strongest of you could barely lift one, let alone wield it in battle. Roughly 30 of the giants' javelins are in a bundle in one corner, though in your hands they would be spears.
Malaki tosses the room quickly, and finds two normal sized warhammers, one hidden behind a shield, the other in the corner behind the spears.
Max Gain |
Max makes a perception to check to make sure nothing is hiding in the room. perception: 6 + 1d20 ⇒ 6 + (9) = 15
DM Nerk |
Malaki advances down the passage to the east and finds himself in a room crowded with trophies and relatively luxurious furnishings. There are giant tables and chairs, rugs and hides carpet the floor, and trophies cover the walls, the poorly preserved heads of various beasts, and various humanoids. On the mantle over the fireplace is a brass jar and a skull, and on the wall across from it are 8 human sized shields, bearing the escutcheons of various noble houses from Sterich.
Double doors lead to the north and south, and a smaller door leads south from the hall. There is also a corridor heading north with two sets of double doors leading off of it.
Eukaeros Shadowstep |
Sorry I have been quiet, big mess up at work yesterday had me running around like crazy...
At the mention of magic Euakeros will give the weapons room and warhammers a once over with Detect Magic while Malaki moves forward and scouts.
Max Gain |
Max follows Malaki, Guys, I guess we will come back and get all those weapons later.
