DM Nerk |
Malaki: It looks like a heck of a lot of attacks, especially for next, but it also looks right.
Olden: Oskar's right. Will work on the assumption that you're using your action to disengage, but feel free to correct me. I can't see it making a tremendous difference at this point.
Luthia: I apologize, I had you smacking a giant when you were clearly smacking a bear. Bear-smacker.
Elwe hacks an ogre down in two vicious chops, and takes a good slice at another, while Olden sends Oskar some much needed aid.
Malaki scraps with the chief's wife, and then darts away.
1d5 ⇒ 3
1d5 ⇒ 3
1d5 ⇒ 3
Drawn by his sudden movements, the two wolves and the bear rush after Malaki....
bear: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
wolf: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
wolf: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
bear: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 4 = 8
wolf: 1d10 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
...and he takes 19 pts of damage from two nasty bites.
Olden Martis |
As the immortal Cpl Hicks once said "Marines, we are LEAVING!"...
If I thought I could get to Malaki, I would, and I may have a trick up my sleeve in a couple of rounds but wolfs will still eat me I think.
DM Nerk |
So I'm having a very hectic month. Just saying so if it seems like I'm only halfway here, it's because I'm only about halfway here.
Oskar and Luthia are up.
As far as where Malaki is, I don't know. He said he was heading out, so I assumed south, but he'll have to answer that. Hopefully, he was heading south.
@ Oskar: It looks to me like Olden's about 90' from the melee, since he moved last round and ran this round. Malaki only moved 15' before the wolves brought him down. You, Elwe and Luthia should be shoulder to shoulder, more or less.
Luthia Manfather |
Luthia sees the hopelessness of the situation, but sees no option that doesn't involve betraying her companions…
She wails on the bear a little more…
Flurry 1: 1d20 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 3 = 10 [Str., Prof.]
Flurry 2: 1d20 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 2 + 3 = 6 [Str., Prof.]

Malaki Davont |
Weaponmaster Subclass abilities. Basically effects I can apply on a hit that will either cause an effect, or do extra damage. Spring Away gives me a free move at half speed that does not provoke if I roll higher than my opponents Dex Mod. Pretty cool abilities! And Luthia, you left out a couple of brackets on your post. Also, post in up in my Game.
Olden Martis |
So I think Olden will cast Invis then keep running. I dont conceive of him as a "stay and die in solidarity" type of guy more a "go an get the army with rez clerics to come nuke the place" type of guy...but this assumes that I can outrun the wolves that were gnawing on Malaki as all things being what they are I am only 15/20 feet in front of them?
Oskar Lutgehr |
.
Oskar groans out the words for a curative spell and then climbs to his feet.
Action cast cure wounds on myself: Cure wounds 3rd lvl: 6d8 + 2 ⇒ (7, 2, 1, 6, 2, 6) + 2 = 26 3rd Lvl 0/3 left.
Move: Stand up
Current hp: 39
DM Nerk |
With Malaki down and Olden invisble and fleeing, the remaining giants crowd around Elwe, Luthia and Oskar, swinging their clubs to vicious effect. While there are many more giants crowding around, only four are able to reach each of the heroes.
Spoilered dice rolls. Feel free to look
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 7) + 5 = 15
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (7, 4) + 5 = 16

1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (2, 6) + 5 = 13
Elwe is hit twice, taking another 31 points of damage.
Luthia also takes two hard hits, for 33 points.
Oskar is only hit once, for 13 points.
Elwë Alcarin |
Unfortunately I kind of feel like Elwë would not run until his rage wore off.
With a roar of pure rage, Elwë would slash his greatsword back at the giants opposing him.
1st Greatsword Attack with Advantage: 1d20 + 8 - 5 ⇒ (1) + 8 - 5 = 4
1st Greatsword Attack with Advantage: 1d20 + 8 - 5 ⇒ (7) + 8 - 5 = 10

3rd Greatsword Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 6) + 5 + 2 + (6, 5) + 4 = 31
Now should I move...
DM Nerk |
Elwe delivers a single, horrendous blow to the ogre he wounded last round, sending a red rain of gore flying throughout the room. The ogre stares at him for a long moment before it falls dead.
I believe you rolled an extra d6. The crit rules in next are funky. You do automatic max damage, plus one of the attack's damage dice. "For example, if your attack normally deals 2d6+2 piercing damage, you would roll one extra d6 and add it to the damage of a critical hit." The ogre's dead either way, but wanted to run it clean.
Luthia Manfather |
Luthia's last thought as she falls beneath the terrible blows is, surprisingly, not one of frustration with her rash companions, rather that she let herself down...and did not listen to her own intuition.
Olden Martis |
For the record Olden will run but I'm not sure it matters. If the olves have sent (which they should) and they move faster than me (which they should) I get bound up in the next round or two and either I stay invisible and try to dodge my way out of them, find a place to hide, or if I try to defend myself, my spell ends and then everything else comes and gets me. Not to say that it *couldn't* work out, but all things being as they are I sort of doubt it LOL
DM Nerk |
@ Olden: Scent as a thing is not as it is in Pathfinder. In this case, they get +5 to detect hidden creatures, which would means they won't automatically find you. That also assumes that they're looking for you, which I'm not inclined to think they are. Not when there are perfectly viable visible enemies for them to try to reach.
Oskar, if you're still up, you're up.
DM Nerk |
As would I. I'm going to DMPC him as retreating and grabbing Malaki by the fate as he goes. With Olden out and Luthia down (and planning on leaving us, as it seems) that leaves Elwe alone with a horde of giants. The giants don't seem to be showing much interest in pursuit at this point.
Elwë Alcarin |
Well I think one person sacrificing himself to make sure the others survived makes sense, though I would like to fight it out to see if I might get lucky and take a few more down.
Though I will be sad to see him and his ridiculousness go.
Luthia Manfather |
Yep, Luthia is down, and likely staying that way. Sorry folks, I'm not feeling this system at the moment, so I won't be re-entering the Steading with a new character. By all means avenge Luthia and retrieve her cloak of elvenkind and spider boots.
DM Nerk |
The four giants nearest Elwe attack, the others gathering round, jostling for a chance to bash the elf. Despite their losses, they seem to be enjoying the game.
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 damage: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (5, 1) + 5 = 11
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25 damage: 2d8 + 5 ⇒ (6, 4) + 5 = 15
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
He gets whomped for 26 pts of damage.
Elwë Alcarin |
Elwë would offer the giants a bloody smile. They struck hard, but he was not done with them yet. Once more he would lash out at his enemies.
1st Greatsword Attack with Advantage: 1d20 + 8 - 5 ⇒ (8) + 8 - 5 = 11
1st Greatsword Attack with Advantage: 1d20 + 8 - 5 ⇒ (18) + 8 - 5 = 21

1st Greatsword Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 6) + 5 + 2 + (1, 1) + 4 = 20
2nd Greatsword Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (2, 2) + 5 + 2 + (2, 3) + 4 = 20
2nd Greatsword Damage: 12 + 5 + 2 + 12 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ 12 + 5 + 2 + 12 + 4 + (5, 5) = 45

3rd Greatsword Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 2 + 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (3, 1) + 5 + 2 + (1, 1) + 4 = 17
I'm sad I cannot drop out of rage and re-enter it. I'll have to get pretty lucky to survive this next round of attacks.
DM Nerk |
Elwe sends another giant to his death, but another moves up to take his place as Nosnra laughs at the feisty little snack.
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Elwë Alcarin |
Elwë would fall with a smile upon his face as he watches the giant in front of him drop by his sword.
That's it for Elwë. At least he bought his comrades some time to escape. Now I need to figure out what to make though.
Malaki Davont |
Malaki slowly comes to over the next few hours, suddenly snapping upright with blades drawn, rushing at the nearest person to him!
A moment passes, and he seems to come to his senses, sheathing his weapons and taking in the situation. Seeing that of those who went in, only himself and Oskar remain, he smiles coldly and takes a sit before turning to the Elven woman.
I can only assume by now you have been informed of what has come to pass. The Chieftain, though able to drive us back, has been bloodied, and many of his fellows slain or demoralized. Though confident, I daresay he will not soon forget the blood that has been drawn this day. We need to return, and soon, with a plan of action and a lust for his blood. I shall go back, of course. My blades have not yet sated their thirst. Oskar, I am glad to see you made it as well. You are a fine warrior, and your prowess in the Divine Arts have made you more fearsome yet. I will be honored to return at your side. But, tell me, what has become of the others? I see no corpses or my resting fellows here. What has befallen them?
As he talks, Malaki begins calmly cleaning his gear and weaponry, treating the Scimitars with a reverence one would not expect from the callous warrior. After cleaning, he begins to move through a series of ritualized Kata, working out the aches and pains of the fierce blows he endured. Of his obvious wounds, he does not say a word, nor does he show the horrific agony his wounds must be causing him upon his features.
