Jordy Vashnarstill |
Jordy also doesn't understand the goblin-ese. He nods at Diomedes. "They really could provide food and resources the settlement can use, and if they're willing to trade it could be a beneficial agreement on both sides."
The archaeologist waits for the queen to respond to Gizmo, then says "Queen, would you consider trading with us? If you can help with, say, fishing or gathering things like oysters or corals or other things that are only underwater, we can give you things of value from above water. Bronze tools that won't rust underwater, perhaps. A relationship between your people and ours could be very beneficial to both of us."
DireMerc |
"We cannot trade...Would make others mad...We would die." Answers the Queen hesitantly.
Her guards bring out three men who log a bit ragged but otherwise unharmed.
She touches each man with a hand were she were a ring with a blue pearl on it and it creates a bubble around their heads.
"This will last long enough for you to return to the surface. Go, we not bother you again."
Jordy Vashnarstill |
"One second, Deranthil." Jordy turns back to the queen. "What others? Who could threaten you, great queen?" He gestures at his companions. "You have seen a measure of our strength. Tell us who it is that threatens you, who makes you kidnap our people, and we will see that they never threaten your people or ours again."
Jordy Vashnarstill |
"That is fair, o queen. We will return to talk when we have defeated these bigger fish." Jordy nods at Deranthil. "OK, let's go."
Diomedes Wayfair |
Just grateful they aren't in combat, Diomedes decides it's better not to look a gift horse in the mouth. He bows to the queen as they take their lost colonists and take their leave.
Diomedes Wayfair |
Diomedes offers his healing to any who might be needing it. Once the former captives have had some rest, he will approach them to ask if they have any idea what the grindylow queen was referring to.

Sorry I'd tought I'd posted this a few days ago and nobody replied I should have checked again
The next day or two are pretty relaxed you do repairs and patrols when the ship captain comes to see you again and ask you to meet him on the dock.
When you arrive he is alone looking at the longboat tied to the dock.
"We have a problem. Those men you brought back. Not sure who or what they are but it's not them. Sure they look, sounds and act like them but some things are off. Most people wouldn't notice. But I felt something was off so I tested them a few times slipped a few things in conversation and they failed almost every test. This was the last one. I came over with them and asked them to secure the boat." He pushes it with his foot and the ropes holding it to the dock come loose with very little effort. "You ever see a saylor that didn't know how to tie a knot properly?"
Jordy Vashnarstill |
Jordy sighs. "Alright. We'll deal with it." He glances at the bustling hamlet. "Somewhere out of sight. Do these sailors have family who will miss them?" The dungeon delver frowns and lowers his voice. "Or family they might have... infected?"
Jordy Vashnarstill |
Jordy shrugs. "It sounds like they've been replaced. If I was the one doing the replacing, I wouldn't have any need for the originals after I'd slipped in my replacements. But I suppose it never hurts to talk. Someplace out of sight where the noise won't travel back to the rest of the settlement."
Deranthil |
I like the idea of a password. But that does not help for those already replaced. Lets start by question these men one at a time. I think we should detain them all though.
Diomedes Wayfair |
"You can't blame them, Gizmo," Diomedes says coming up from behind them. "They've been through a horrific experience." He turns to the drunken men, trying to put them at ease. "How are you doing, by the way? Are you feeling any better?"
diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Jordy Vashnarstill |
Jordy sits on a handy crate with his crossbow near at hand. "The Captain said you haven't been feeling well, friends." He nods at Diomedes. "We've got some healing if you need some help."
Diplo or Aid Another to make the sailors feel unthreatened: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Jordy Vashnarstill |
What kind of Knowledge check would we use to ID them as possessed or infected? Kn:Arcana? Dungeoneering? Heal?
Here's a d20 to use for the check: 1d20 ⇒ 16 +10 if it's a Perception check, +7 for Arcana, +6 for Dungeoneering, +3 for Heal
Jordy smiles at the sailor. "Well that's good to hear. This is a small camp. One of us gets sick, we all get sick, right?" He looks carefully at the sailors and their boat to see if he can spot any telltale signs they aren't what they seem.
Diomedes Wayfair |
prof:sailor: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
"Glad to hear you're feeling better. Say, can you help me with something for a moment? Jordy and I were debating which knot is better for mooring a dinghy. Jordy says you wanna use a rolling hitch, but I think the half-hitch is the way to go? Can you settle this for us? I wanna teach the guy how to do it right."
Diomedes knew quite well that you would never use a half-hitch for mooring, or a rolling hitch. You should use a bowline. But do they know that?
Diomedes Wayfair |
Diomedes' face goes flat, loosing any sort of smile he had before. His morningstar is in his hand. "Just who the hell are you? You sure aren't sailors, that's for sure. Neither of those knots would work."
intimidate: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
DireMerc |
The three men sudently because very serious. "Seems they are on to us brothers. I told the damned sea goblins we needed more time to learn these men."
"You think they told anyone? if we kill them we might be able to salvage this."
"I have a better idea. Take them alive."
The leader quickly makes a grab for Diomedes.
cmb grapple: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Deranthil |
Cannot move my icon on the map.
Deranthil moves out, targeting the last of the enemy on the doce with a Snowball spell, hopefully catching the "man" flat footed and doing sneak attack damage as well as spell damage.
Range Touch, flat footed.: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 183d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 6) + (2, 5) = 24 DC 14 fort save or be Staggered for a round.
Diomedes Wayfair |
Wow, that guy's good! Diomedes never was a huge fan of wrestling, but he's not completely inexperienced. He takes the man's arm and tries to reverse the grapple.
grapple CMB: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Deranthil |
Move Deranthil 20'to the right. From there what is the DC to jump into the rowboat. He is +10 acrobatics so gets a 20 if he takes 10. If you are good with that move him into the rowboat.
Gizmo Ghizmadeus |
"Keep one alive... I have questons."
Gizmo mixes up a concoction from his belt and tosses it at the back man.
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 1 = 9
If that missed (which is likely), it lands at the feet of the man to the left, giving each of them (and Diomedes and Bastien) splash damage of 6.
Miss location: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Jordy Vashnarstill |
Init: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Xbow: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13 Swift to activate Archaeologist's Luck, 3 rounds.
Dmg: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
"Remind me not to debate knots with Dio!" Jordy grabs for the bow that had been sitting next to him and snaps off a shot at the nearest faux-sailor.
DireMerc |
Spent like 40 minutes writting out a detailed version of this post and the damn power goes out as I'm about to hit submit...
derantil init: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Dio and derantil is actualy after the ennemies to the turn would go like this.
Joshua begins casting spell
Jordy shoots but misses
Bastien attacks the leader and hits but his skin is unusually hard and the cut is not as deep as you would have expected. (dr 5)
Ennemies leader reverts to his natural form a grey skinned featureless humanoid with sharp teeth and claws. He bites Dio bite: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 and sucks out some blood (1 con damage) he heals 5 hp. Knowledge Dungeoneering to identify.
Seeing their leader abandon his diguise the other two do so as well.
The one at the back of the group steps back and waits for now.
The other attacks Bastien attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 + grab free grapple on hit: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Dio reverse grapple
gizmo trows bomb hitting all enemies dio and bastien for 6 damage.
Derantil hit leader in the back with snowball while dio holds him. deals 24 damage, he is not staggered.
Your go again.
Deranthil |
Deranthil moves acrobatically up to flank the enemy leader with Dio.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23
cold iron short sword: 1d20 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 7 + 2 = 221d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (5) + 4 + (4, 4) = 17
If leader is already down he will tumble over and flank with Bastion.
