The squid jets right past your blocking you exit (jet lets it move 240 feet in a straight line as a full round action)

the grindylow are still 100 feet away.

As the cephalopod jets by, Diomedes spins his spear to thrust back the way they had come.

It's really good at grappling, it can create ink that blinds people and it can jet long distances really quickly

The squid would stop about 30 feet behind the group so yes it is in range behind you that you can reach it but approaching provokes attacks from it's tentacles and it has combat reflexes.

Gizmo heads to where Diomedes points, looking for dry land.


After a sharp switchback in the tunnel, a gradual upward slope leads out of the water and into this roughly round chamber with a dome-like ceiling. The floor is covered in a mixture of sand and coarse stones. Rising from the ground near the center of the room is a massive statue of a hand, carved from a smooth, pearlescent, sea-green marble. The hand is bent back at the wrist and posed as if to catch something or to cradle something in its palm. If anything more exists of the statue, it is buried beneath the earth.

This chamber is not submerged, and sounds echo off its rounded walls. The hand sculpture is feminine in form and is the topmost part of an enormous statue buried deep underground. Unearthing it would require powerful magic or a significant amount of labor resulting in a major change of the landscape.

A larger than normal female grindylow sits on a chair at the base of the statue. (She is medium size while they are normally small) she wields a ornated trident that looks magical.

"I am brinetooth queen of the shellcrackers. You wont find me easy prey!" she says as five grindylow guards take positions in front of her.

You can try to talk or attack. If you attack just roll init and post your actions.

Diomedes would love to try to reason with these creatures, but he somehow doubts they'll be amenable. Still, you never know til you try, right?
"Queen Brinetooth," he says with a small bow. "Please forgive our intrusion. This may simply be a misunderstanding. We're trying to find several of our colonists who have gone missing. I'm sure if we could have them returned, we could work out some sort of beneficial arrangement between our people and yours."

Jordy also tries placating the queen. "Great and powerful queen, if we can come to some arrangement I am sure both your tribe and our people can benefit. We can trade surface goods for resources only your people can access. Your tribe will prosper. War is not inevitable between us."

Gizmo whispers back. "What are these shellcrackers? This appears to be their home. Not sure us just telling them to move out is going to get very far."
