Filon Cen |
Filon stops and rescinds to the logic of the plan.
"Argh, fine. Let's go!"
He follows suit.

Colorful gobs of lichen and moss dapple the ancient, basalt bridge here at the Marideth’s narrowest crossing. The ravine below drops twenty feet into raging whitewater and jagged, exposed boulders. To the northwest stands a ramshackle shed and a weathered but sturdy-looking wooden crane. Twentysome bloody and motionless bodies litter the ground, and above them flap banners painted with an ominous, fanged red shield. To the north, three hundred feet past the bridge, a wall of trees and ferns marks the edge of the Fangwood.
The Chelish army originally constructed this arch bridge some 300 years ago as part of the trade road connecting the empire to its Varisian colonies. Even after the army withdrew and its fortress crumbled, a town remained to maintain and take advantage of the reliable crossing over the tumultuous Marideth River. Phaendar began an intense maintenance process last year, recruiting the town smith, Kining Blondebeard, to oversee the project thanks to her extensive stoneworking experience. Kining performed some cursory repair work and removed the cracked stone support from the bridge’s north side before promptly announcing she would require twice her original estimate to complete repair work on the bridge. The construction shed and crane have sat untended beside the bridge for nearly 9 months now as the town struggles to gather funds, while a temporary wooden support frame takes the place of the removed stone support.
As you arrive at the bridge an imposing hobgoblin female in black armor moves to block your path. Two hobgoblin soldiers lean againts the railing nearby but make no move to join her and just watch seemingly amused.
"I am kergi of the Ironfang legion. Phaendar belongs to us now. Surrender and serve or die." she says flatly holding a crossbow aimed at the group.
She is 60 feet away from the group standing on the center of the bridge
"Someone will need to fight her but at the same time we need someone to get under the bridge to plant the stump remover."
Oreld holds up the disk and shows you a small section that rotates.
"Spin this and and it will slowly spin back, when it gets back to it's original position it will go boom. If you spin it all the way around you should have about a minute before it blows." he explains.
If you attack right away then roll init and you post action.
Radok Mokak |
Radok grins. "Never have I been so happy Kining did a shoddy job. You could jump on the bridge and it would fall apart. Though don't actually do that. It won't work." Radok says, realizing his voice doesn't hint sarcasm.
"Get your weapons ready." Radok says, reaching for his newly acquired battleaxe. "And watch out for the bolts coming our way."
Betto Calvus |
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Betto grins.
"I'm ready."
And charges against the captain, fist first.
unarmed charge, -2 AC: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 5 + 2 = 9

Zelik begins to cast a spell.
I wrote a whole book and then it got erased and I need to go to bed so he just casts a spell
Morde Chai |
Same!
Before the BOOM.
Morde takes the found arrows and a tanglefoot bag.
"Radok,Betto, you should take the healpotions. Filon, can you treat wounds? Excellent take the healer´s kit."
After the BOOM.
"Thanks Erastil for your sign. To the bridge."
At the bridge.
"Pointy ears, take care of the bridge, we others will take care of the pig-faces!"
Taking his bow, he

Radok Mokak |
Well, I wrote the first post with the idea someone would want to do some negotiations or something... but it's good to know everyone is on Radok's page. Let's go!
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Radok charges forward, screaming. "Die!" Stopping just before the captain, he swings his weapon with both hands at her hip.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9
Two-Handed Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Filon Cen |
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Pointy ears? Filon inwardly grumbles at Morde's comment.
He looks at Jasmine, somewhat familiar with her from their time on the Caravan "Work together to set that Stump-Remover?"
Filon will move to retrieve the 'bomb' with Jasmine and start making his way towards their target.
In Case I need a Roll Now
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
DireMerc |
To get to the pillar requires 3 checks dc 15 and you only fall if you fail by more than 5. (a result of 9 or less) if you do fail and fall you also get a dc 15 reflex to catch yourself so you don't fall all the way to the water. We will do one check per round so it will happen at the same time as combat.
enemy init: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 20
The captain senses combat gets ready to shoot at the first one that gets close the other two do nothing but watch.
Radok lunges forward first and the hobgoblin captain quickly reacts and aims and fires her crossbow at him attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 211d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
ouch 1 away from max damage
Her shot done she drops the crossbow with a grin.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Barely standing Radok swings but misses.
Betto rushes in after him but also fails to connect.
Mord and spot also fail to land a blow on the well armored captain.
which spell zelik?
zithrael Xar cast guidance on mord.
Filon and Jasmine run to the edge of the bridge and begin climbing down the wooden construction platform to get to the support pillar both easily making the first check.

Round 2
The hobgoblin captain punches Radok with a spiked gauntlet catching him right in the chin with and uppercut.
attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 261d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
confirm critical?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (18) + 6 = 241d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Dropping Radok to the floor. (-5 hp if I'm right)
She then grabs a steel shield from her back and readies it to defend herself.
double ouch
The two soldiers hanging back laugh and make an Oooooooo sound as Radok goes down. It seems they are confident their captain can handle this whole group herself.
"This one is strong...I better help." Aubrin moves forward and attempts casting a spell spell failure chance 50% high is good: 1d100 ⇒ 95 and Betto suddenly feels a protective ward on his body. Casting shield other on Betto
Everyone else can post their round 2 actions.
Zelik |
Woosh Woosh Woosh! The sound of wings beating the air can be heard as a golden eagle is summoned from the heavens and circles arond the hobgoblin captain, sites her, and attacks with a talon.
Talon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 +2 if flanking applies
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 +1 if evil
As the bird attacks Zelik takes advantage of the avian distraction and moves up next to the cleric to fire of a ball of acid at the captain
range touch: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (4) - 4 = 0
I'll get the eagle stats up in a bit my phones being finicky
Morde Chai |
Eagle has 3 attacks
Morde draws another arrow.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 151d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Spot attacks again.

Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 221d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Betto Calvus |
Betto sees Radok fall, and gets even angrier.
He starts circling the hobgoblin captain, roaring at her at her to draw her attention.
"OVER HERE! I HAVE SOMETHING FOR YOU!"
And with that, he lashes out with a vicious left hook.
5 ft step north. Move: Martial flexibility for dedicated adversary (hobgoblin), attack.
Left Hook At Her Face: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 = 8
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8
Izithrael Xar |
"Radok! Oh, dear me!" Zith jitters nervously as he scampers across the bridge to try and reach the half-orc. "And with only one spell left! Oh, pebbles!" he curses, "I hope this works!"
double move to get close enough to cast a heal spell next round.
Filon Cen |
"I think we can do this." Filon says to Jasmine as they continue their journey.
Acrobatics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
"Shh!"
Filon's words are cut off as he proceeds to take a swim.
Filon Cen |
"Thanks" Filon gratefully mouths to Jasmine as the second leg of his journey downward becomes far less terrifying than the first bit.
DireMerc |
Filon is jumps from one platform to another and misses his leap and fails to grab onto anything and is about to take a potential fatal fall (well 2d6 damage) when jasmine uses one of her innate magical abilities to slow his fall to a crawl and gently drops him into the water.
Was filion the one with the blast disk? He can attempt to climb back up but he will need to make a swim check first
spot manages two hits but everything else missed.
So from the eagle and spot she took 18 damage but she is still standing.
"Argh...A blasted bear" says Kergi as spot strike her..You two quit grinning and help me take care of these animals." she say drawing her scimitar and attacking spot herself
attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 271d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
confirm crit: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 151d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
The two hobgoblins watching from the side draw their swords, one attacks spot and the other the eagle.

attack eagle: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Round 3
Aubrin grabs her holy symbol a dent drinking flask that she wears on a chain around her neck and channels positive energy healing her allies in range and not the enemies channel: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 4) = 9
Your go again.
Betto Calvus |
Betto grins as the healing energies wash over him.
"That sting a little, goblin? Come on!"
He keeps circling and lashes out again, determined to smash the captain, now that she is caught between him and Spot.
Betto should now be in the square directly northwest of the hobgoblin captain, thus giving both him and spot flanking.
Jab: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 2 + 2 = 21
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 4 + 2 = 9
Izithrael Xar |
Zith's golden stag mask flashes a brilliant gold, then fades to a dull shade of bronze. He stomps his little foot on the ground, and a small shockwave of glowing, golden energy flies across the timbers of the bridge and strikes the half-orc.
Using my bonded mask to cast Thunderstomp.
CMB, small: 1d20 + 1 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 4 - 1 = 22
Filon Cen |
I think I did take the disk? Clearly Filon knew not what he was volunteering for.
Filon does his best to swim about.
Swim: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Unfortunately, he has about all the grace of a fish on land.
Ruh, Roh.
Zelik |
The golden eagle screeches and tears at the fallen enemy with beak and talons.
Bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Talon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Talon: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
"It has been far too long since I called you for more than a jackrabbit it the yard. Until next I call"
The bird swoops up into the heavens and disappears.
For a split second Zelik watches as it ascends before focusing back at the battle field "now that she's down this might have a chance"
Acid Splash Range Touch: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (3) - 4 = -1
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
DireMerc |
@Jasmine Hmm had to do a bit of research on this one to figure if Filon would be in range of levitate or not but according to the Aquatic Adventures campaign setting when you fail a swim check you immediately move downstream 30 feet by this logic you would need to cast your spell before Filon made his swim check but he ad the highest init roll out of the group so his turn would have been first. In short he's out of range of your levitate spell.
Morde Chai |
Spot feels the sting of the blade, but it is not a serious one and he mauls the fallen hobgoblin after moving into flanking with a 5-foot step.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 4 + 2 = 121d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 4 + 2 = 171d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Attack: 1d20 + 5 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 4 + 2 = 271d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Morde quickly sends another arrow flying, this time at the one that attacked spot.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 211d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Filon Cen |
As Filon starts to sink not so merrily down the stream, he tries to imbibe his mutagen in order to strengthen himself.
Able to drink mutagen underwater?
DireMerc |
Will assume Jasmine took a few vials of alchemist fire from the stash all she needs to do is shatter the glass jar on the wood and it will burst into flames and spread quickly. Jasmine can start making her way back.
Righto so Filon can make his swim check.
Kergi barely alive stubbornly gets back up (provokes attacks) I assume you drop her but roll just in case.
The other two hobgolin attack the bear and Betto.
attack bear: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 71d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
attack betto: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Your go.
Betto Calvus |
Boot Stomp vs prone AC: 1d20 + 5 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 5 + 2 + 2 = 10
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 2 = 8
Betto stomps down but the blow isn't quite enough to finish Kelgi by itself.
He lashes out at her if she is still standing, or starts circling the nearest hobgoblin guard to start to set up a flank.
Right Cross versus Guard or Kelgi (add +2 for flank if Kelgi) : 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 5 + 2 = 14
Damage: 1d8 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 4 + 2 = 12
Filon Cen |
Swim: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Hurrah!
Filon quickly drinks his mutagen and starts trying to swim for land as his skin hardens and his muscles bulge.
Strength Mutagen
Old Frineglen would surely be heckling me about neglecting my swimming skills. This is really, really terrible. I hope they have some of those alchemist fires on them. Filon thinks to himself as he spits out a mouthful of water.
Morde Chai |
Mordechai attacks the Hobbo attacking spot.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 171d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
Spot first Mauls the Hobbo on the ground.
AttackBite: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (13) + 6 = 191d6 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6
AttackClaw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 171d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
As he doesn´t even wimper after the second attack he attacks the own that tried to hurt him.
AttackClaw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 161d4 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Radok Mokak |
Ah, cool. I missed the post with the healing in it.
Radok, feeling himself awaken, notes the sounds of combat and the hobgoblin captain standing over him. Hoping she has yet to notice, Radok makes a short swing at her legs.
Attack, while Prone: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (20) + 6 - 4 = 22 Oh, Yes.
Confirm: 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 6 - 4 = 20
Damage, Two-Handed: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Crit Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Radok doesn't realize how hard the blow is until it hits. Sinking into her thigh, the axe hits bone near instantly. Radok pulls on the axe, removing it, and letting the crimson liquid flow.
Standing up, Radok laughs, perhaps giddy from his own blood loss. "I told you to do one thing. Die." He says, bearing his tusks. "At least you listened."
Izithrael Xar |
"What a good bear!" Zith compliments Spot. "You should be proud! A handsome job of training that one, yes!" Zith graces Morde with another stroke of luck.
Guidance on Morde. Zith is out of spells, save orisons!
Zelik |
Zelik fires a globe of acid at the hobgoblin not attacking the bear. and takes a step forward.
Touch Attack: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (12) - 4 = 8
Damage: 1d3 ⇒ 2
