SO...other than the chanting...and the dancing around in circles...and the feathers and face paint...We can pretty much say the group has seem Gloin wiggle his dread-locks and create water into the skins, then? :P

so into the desert, will a list of spells from the two that need to prepare for the day and the survival tracking checks. The night is only mildly cold for now as the sun has only recently gone down those a single rank in survival know with a clear night sky and no sunlight it will get pretty cold within 2 hours so it'll be a good idea to have warmth production.

Akaash smiles and takes in a deep breath. "We will be on the hunt tonight, I feel it in the winds. Even if the winds shift, we should be able to close the distance fairly quickly."

Akaash will be taking his 57 gold, backpack, compass, flint & steel, mirror, regular rope, signal horn, waterskin, hot weather outfit, leather armor, sling, quarterstaff.

Survival 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28

Orisons: Create Water, Dazzle, Guidance
Level 1: Summon Nature's Ally & Magic Stone

"They had left during the afternoon when the heat was at it's peak."

Even with the stolen provisions from Jubair. It is unlikely they went far during that time, but now that the sun has set and they are getting cooler they'll likely start moving to there camp. On the plus side they where likely greater delayed by Jubairs men most likely even if they had lost the fight the fight itself would require the Gnolls to seek shelter from the day until nightfall with so much heat and little water.

Akaash- The desert winds tell you easily of the Gnolls direction and how they had not made the distance that they in turn had wished to make during their raid. However along the route you do also find strange materials on the ground and the smell of magics are in the air once you find a pile of bodies, a hidden camp. Jubairs men, some partially eaten lay around you.

Human Hp 22/29 AC 23 (+8 Perc; +5 Init; Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +6)

Gloin beeing in medium armor is a 20ft per mouvement (as a reminder). Every 10 min he will cast a light spell on a stone in order to see where he walks.

Gloin will look at everyone at make mental note as who has a ranged weapon.

Who has a ranged weapon ?

M Ifrit Bard 2

Utarah has no survival skills, so he will be letting Akaash and the others who are the experts lead.

"I shall defer to you who know the desert. Make sure that you are warmed against the cool night. Lead the way good sirs."

Utarah speaks a few more reassuring words the Jubair, then leaves the tent.

Human Hp 22/29 AC 23 (+8 Perc; +5 Init; Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +6)

Gloin will borrow some pelts in order to withstand the cold.

Akaash, don't make us walk to much to night as we will need to rest a bit in order not to be fatigued nor exhausted

Akaash looks to his companions and smirks. "The sand does not rest, but we are not the sand. We will travel as need, but I believe we may reach our goal before we are in danger."

And so, Akaash will lead the way.

As Akaash leads your group through the growing chill of night with the light that is created by Gloin, No clues are missed as you arrive at the old encampment of the Desert Gnolls. Jubairs men lay dead within the camp near the remains of burning camel dung partially eaten it seems for food. However their are signs of a small struggle within the camp that likely happened recently. Good signs that show the Sheik's daughter is still alive, and thanks to her antics they also have a good judge of where the Gnolls true camp is. Gnolls do have fur and can keep warm, but if they wanted to keep the girl alive they'd have hopefully either have a camp near this one, or if they where unlucky they had actual warm fire magic to keep the sheik's daughter alive.

and now to roll for a random encounter 1d100 ⇒ 80

As you travel the night towards the lair of the Gnolls the stillness of night is interrupted by 1d8 ⇒ 8 Hyena's growling and laughing as your party approaches losing what surprise they likely would have gained. However in the distance you do see a strange opening in a hill side that has stonework to it as well.

M Ifrit Bard 2

Holy crap! So... initiative?

Human Hp 22/29 AC 23 (+8 Perc; +5 Init; Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +6)

I don't know how you want to handle posting for initiative and round per round posting during combat as this is my 1st PbP. But as far as i am concerned Gloin will fire his longbow as the hyenas, as he figured they can run a lot faster than he can. Actually almost anyone in this party can run faster than he.

Wow..I'm glad I didn't roll 2d8 now O_o; and yes Initiative rolls would be good

19 / 24 HP ( Calistran Saracen); +4Perc; +4 Init;

Initiative:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13

Upon hearing the closing beats, Sunset draws the long elegant curve of steel from across her back.

HP 2/11; AC (19)15 / 11t / 14ff; Fort +4, Ref +1, Will +2; Init +1; Per +0; Suli Magus 1

I find that it usually speeds things up by having the GM do the Initiative rolls for everyone. Either way works fine for me.

Init: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 = 16

Human Hp 22/29 AC 23 (+8 Perc; +5 Init; Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +6)

1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15

if the dm wants to roll for everyone's init and give us the order in the future, i am game for that

M Ifrit Bard 2

Initiative 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26

Utarah begins calling out "Watch your flanks, they tend to circle around. Stay together, if we take several of them down we should be able to run them off!"

That's my RP version of starting inspire courage with oratation. +1 to hit and damage for everybody once it kicks in. Also for future reference, DM rolling init is great for me as well.

Hyena's move closer towards the group
initiative roll 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

Edit
Initiative list order
Utarah
Irathi
Gloin
Sunset
and last The Hyena's

Further Edit

I'll have no probem rolling other's Initiative to keep things simple

19 / 24 HP ( Calistran Saracen); +4Perc; +4 Init;

Ready to swing when the creatures get close enough.

Sunset shifts so that she helps for a cordon of steel against the on coming animals.

Human Hp 22/29 AC 23 (+8 Perc; +5 Init; Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +6)

How far are the creatures away from Gloin?

M Ifrit Bard 2

Utarah fires his crossbow at a hyena (man I'm not that effective at this point), and maintains bardic performance as a free action (Don't forget your bonus from performance).

Crossbow 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 for 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 damage.

19 / 24 HP ( Calistran Saracen); +4Perc; +4 Init;

We're all 1st level. I think "Not that effective" goes with-out saying for all of us. :P

Did we forget Akaash in the initiative? Speaking of which....

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6

Akaash will ready himself with a Dazzle spell if the hyena comes close, but he's first going to attempt to calm the beast.

Diplomacy 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3

HP 2/11; AC (19)15 / 11t / 14ff; Fort +4, Ref +1, Will +2; Init +1; Per +0; Suli Magus 1

Irathi will move forward and will try to engulf as many hyenas as he can in a color spray (DC 20).

Human Hp 22/29 AC 23 (+8 Perc; +5 Init; Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +6)

DC 20 for a 1st level spell? ouch that is scary.

Considering that Gloin can only see 40ft (20 ft from light spell + 20 from shadowy illumination) in front of him.

He will ready an Warhammer attack action within in his striking mouvement (20ft) at any hyena that attack a party member.

Status:
HP 10 /10hp AC 21

1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 151d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10

The first wave of Hyena attack
Utarah- Your bolt strike's with deadly accuracy into the Hyena and while it looks to barely be able to move it moves in for it's attack. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 81d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Sunset- It moves in quickly for it's attack, as such if you want to during it's attack you can also fight defensively
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 181d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Irathi- three of the Hyena's move in on you as you begin casting
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 201d4 ⇒ 3 (there will be an edit depending on the rolls)

Gloin- The hammer slams into the Hyena forcing it to tumble back a bit and it moves forward to attack once again. But no where near as confident looking as it once was.
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

Akaash- The Hyena moves in on you before you are able to begin speaking to take a bite at you 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 131d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

19 / 24 HP ( Calistran Saracen); +4Perc; +4 Init;

Att Roll:1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 + 1 = 20

Crit Confirm:1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 + 1 = 8

Dam Roll:1d10 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11

EDITED!

Good points, sorry about that.

Utarah- The Hyena misses you as it attacks with it's bite

Sunset- It attempts to bite and misses you (ouch) and you strike back into the Hyena causing it to bleed slightly from your cut.

Irathi- The Hyena's seem to ignore the bright colored lights mostly but a single Hyena does make an attack towards you. 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Gloin- despite it's best moves it cannot seem to bite the powerful dwarf

Akaash- The beast close close to taking your head from your shoulders, but as you avoid it your attempts to make it understand and not attack seem to fall on deaf hungry ears as all the hyena's while laughing just seem to chant softly to themselves that they will have a fine meal this night.

19 / 24 HP ( Calistran Saracen); +4Perc; +4 Init;

Round 2?

Att Roll:1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 + 1 = 5

SWING! Bat'a Bat'a!

((Oh Sunset, it doesn't look like you remembered your bardic performance bonus from Utarah, Please re-roll your attack, and doesn't the elven thin blade do d10 not a d8?))

((nice))

Sunset- much like your fellow fighting companions your blade strikes deep in the side of the Hyena this one barely able to stand after the strike (you also forgot the damage bonus so I'm adding it)

------------------------------------

Hyena's:will saves 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

It seems after the first round and not landing a single strike on the larger meater enemies was almost enough to demoralize them but they will fight on.

and 2nd round attacks begin now.

Sunset- Your swing moves wide, but sadly misses the beast that seems to stumble about on unsure legs.

Irathi- The Hyena that bit you caused some significant damage.

19 / 24 HP ( Calistran Saracen); +4Perc; +4 Init;

Happy to have my previous post acknowledged as 'Round 2'. :)

"If any one has fire? Now would be the time to use it!" Sunset calls to her companions.

M Ifrit Bard 2

Utarah hear's sunset's request and shouts "I can't while they have us surrounded!" He continues shouting orders and brandishes the crossbow at the hyena, trying to fend it off.

Total defense and maintain bardic performance to keep buffs going. Melee is REALLY not Utarah's thing. +4 dodge bonus to AC this round, give me 20 AC. Also, don't forget your bonuses(+1 hit/+1 damage)

HP 2/11; AC (19)15 / 11t / 14ff; Fort +4, Ref +1, Will +2; Init +1; Per +0; Suli Magus 1

Irathi will lunge out with his rapier at the hyena in front of him.

Rapier attack: 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 - 2 = 2
Rapier damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9

Having been grievously wounded, he then takes a step backwards and conjures forth a shimmering disc of force in front of him.

After attack, step 5' back and cast Shield

Human Hp 22/29 AC 23 (+8 Perc; +5 Init; Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +6)

Gloin will swing his weapon at the beast:

Warhammer 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

Gloin he will 5ft step toward Irathi's hyena (flanking position (if possible) yelling at him: By the Gods you believe in Fight Defensively or it will be the end of you !

And the dice gods turn their faces from us... :(

Human Hp 22/29 AC 23 (+8 Perc; +5 Init; Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +6)

Fight isn't over till you die, have faith :)

The Hyena's are each in turn missed during the attacked of the group
and the ones attacking attempt to bite once more.

Utarah - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 201d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Irathi - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 101d6 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Gloin - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Sunset - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 51d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Akaash - 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 151d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Well...Hyena's are certainly pretty nasty O_O

Akaash swings his body out of the way of the snapping hyena, after feeling it rip deep into his shoulder, seeing that these are quite violent ones this time, starved for meat most likely. Well this time, it will be something much worse they receive, as he begins to form the proper symbols and speak the words of summoning, call on his blessed friend of the air, the might eagle, to assist in felling the beasts.

Human Hp 22/29 AC 23 (+8 Perc; +5 Init; Fort +5, Ref +5, Will +6)

indeed they are. not only do they bite but when they do they can also trip and that give them a nice advantage. cause if they pull you to the ground the get a good +4 to hit and you a nice -4 to hit them back from prone....

19 / 24 HP ( Calistran Saracen); +4Perc; +4 Init;

DaFAQ sort of rolls were those? (O_o)

Ah..I see the DM has fixed those weird, incredible high numbers with an edit...

*Gets out the shock paddles to re-start heart....*

Round 3?

Att Roll:1d20 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 1 + 1 = 17

Dam Roll:1d10 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9

Dang, but I hope that's one bad doggy down!

Concentration check

The Hyena also takes it's attack of opportunity 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 161d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4

M Ifrit Bard 2

Well, seeing as full defense didn't really help, Utarah 5 foot steps back and lashes out in a 15 foot cone with his burning hands spell like ability. "Burn you dogs!"

1d4 ⇒ 3 fire damage to multiple hyenas. DC 15 reflex save.

Att Roll:1d20+1+1

Dam Roll:1d10+1

Dang, but I hope that's one bad doggy down!

yeah sorry about that, accidentally typed { instead of [

As you slash through the Hyena it falls easily another begins to rush to take it's place. from 8 to 7 of the beasts, currently ignoring it's trip ability as I believe with 8 and it being a CR7 just from the roll's amount is nasty enough

DM: i supposed that Akaash was mechanically saying that he take a 5FT step back (to get out of reach of monster, which doesn't provoke and stars a full round action "summoning)" but i supposed that since we are 5 Vs 8 hyenas there is an other one threatening him correct?

The hyena's on Utarah, Gloin, and 2 on the fringe of combat take burning damage, but only the two outside of combat survive the deadly flames.

Will save for the Hyenas not to run from the fire 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 1 = 14

AH that would make sense from the dodge statement as he doesn't have the dodge feat.

and with three of their numbers down the Hyena's remain of will to continue the fight.

Unknown parties perception roll 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25

That's not ominous or anything... Also man, I just realized I'm at 5/9 hp. Hopefully no more big hits. We can do this everyone!
