I think that turning someone to stone required an action for a gaze attack from a basilisk, so there might be fewer petrified slaves.
FWIW, Theo's Confusion spell might have saved some of the slaves from being turned to stone.
Typically everyone in range of a gaze has to save at the start of their turn/when they enter the area, and then the gazing creature can potentially target a creature to try to force another save as an action, but its a passive ability otherwise.

This is how it works. 6+ saves each turn for those in range.

Het everyone I'm getting my vaccine today so I might be knocked on my ass with side effects. If I don't do my usual daily gameplay post that's why.

I'm not feeling so hot tonight so I'll be tomorrow night before I can set up the combat completely.
DM_Delmoth |
Hot damn that's a lot of saves. I very much prefer a giant horror to a bunch of peons.
I think I think I've got the results of your actions and after a couple of hours of that I'm going to call it a night. I still need to do the gnoll action and describe the results.

Four large AoEs on two large groups of bunched up enemies? Nawww...
Thanks for letting us have our fun. Groups this big aren't all that common.
And hopefully next round, they will be substantially smaller.
Pocky the Runt |
That’s exactly why I started that first surprise round with Lightning Leap. It’s what you do when enemies align like dominoes.
Are there three floors?
Pocky the Kid |
The White Rabbit runs to Bed, Bath, and Beyond to purchase a comfy blanket, fluffy pillow, and a case of wine. (He has a 20% off coupon).
He then books a Flight to...crap! He guess a lot until he lands at DM Delmoth's place. He boldly knocks on the door. He presents the comforting gifts with a rabbit thumb's up!
He even brought some Hot chocolate from Tims!!
Did he hide any colorful eggs?

I have an officer's meeting for my 40k club that's going on long because our president's two old fashioneds in. Probably won't get to a post tonight.

Tim Horton’s? I only know that place from drives to Ontario.
They're all over Michigan and have been infecting the surrounding environs for a handful of years at least.

If Mara wanted to dispel the enemy's fly spell, but wasn't sure if it was Fly or Overland Flight, could she still use a targeted Dispel Magic?
DM_Delmoth |
If you're talking about the erinyes it's flying with wings. None of the gnolls are flying, at least not yet.
Anyway to answer your question I believe you would need to identify which spell specifically for targeted dispel.
Pocky the Kid |
There are two enemies in flying kick range.
1) nearest enlarged gnoll – what’s your ruling on reaching it via flying kick?
No because the tree is in the way?
~OR~
Yes because the trunk is NOT in the way?
2) winged creature ~ what’s your ruling on full attacking it?
Full attack because the monk’s flying kick is part of a full attack?
~OR~
One attack because gravity?
~OR~
Two attacks hits because, as you’re falling, you can attack again from five feet below?
~OR~
Two OR MORE attacks because you can jab-dance five feet UP when an attack hits?
I may not want to do either because the large gnoll is in a crowd and, though I have the sapphire feather fall ring, falling still removes me for some rounds. I just want to know the rulings, if you think my character should know.
DM_Delmoth |
The tree won't get in your way. Since the map doesn't clearly mark where the trunks are just ignore them for combat purposes. No cover, no difficult terraine, etc.
If you flying kick the erinyes you will get one attack and then fall to the courtyard.
Allegra Gavrospex |

I would like to grant you two kudos for making the argument that attacks should be considered thrust.
DM_Delmoth |
First how does magic jar work with out its focus?
I'm leaning towards the shadow demon's body compressing down into a gem that has smoke swirling around inside it. I'm not sure if there's an official ruling on it, my cursory search hasn't turned up anything.
Second using magic jar is going to take at least two rounds to accomplish, one round to cast another round to attempt control.
Third the shadow demon doesn't get to choose which soul to switch around, it will be randomly determined creature within 10ft of the jar, including allies.
Theo do you still want to do your action as posted?

Well, if life were more like a Capcom game, that would work.
P.S.- kicking Apocalypse in the face less than 99 times, as Chun-Li, is inexcusable .

What are Mara's options for freeing Theo? I presume that Dispel Magic could work (she has one regular Dispel Magic memorized). Or can she Dispel Mr. Tickles?
EDIT: Would casting Protection from Evil on Theo's body do anything?
Dervak |
Is his +12 Will save with or without his Four-Leaf Clover?
DM_Delmoth |
Protection from evil would suppress the possession but not end it. Also Mr. Tickles is still on your side and Theo is free to control it.

Bouda's Eye (Su): A bouda's gaze can bestow ill fortune on her enemies. This hex can affect a creature within 30 feet that the bouda can see. The target takes a –2 penalty on one of the following (bouda's choice): AC, ability checks, attack rolls, saving throws, or skill checks. The hex lasts for a number of rounds equal to 3 + the bouda's Intelligence modifier. A successful Will saving throw reduces the duration of the hex to 1 round. Once per day when the bouda uses this hex, she can impose two different penalties on the target instead of just one. If the bouda takes the evil eye hex, it increases the number of different penalties she can impose on the hex's target by 1. At 8th level, the penalties imposed by this hex increase to –4. This is a mind-affecting effect.
This hex must be taken as a bouda's 1st-level hex, and only a bouda can take this hex.
Dang, time to reincarnate Theo until he's a gnoll.

That's the end of The Whisper Out of Time. I will get an epilogue to the book up sometime tonight.
You level up to 12th.
After I get the epilogue up I'm going to take a week hiatus to prep the next book. But I'll still be around if you have questions.

I think that will be fine. We may want to buy some more to have enough on hand for Restoration or Raise Dead, if needed.
